Abstract
This study reviews advances in chemical detection methods applied to the metabolic products known as uric acid (UA) and xanthine (XA), which are residues of purine metabolism, with XA being an important intermediate preceding UA. UA and XA play crucial roles in maintaining physiological homeostasis in organisms. Chemical modification of electrodes is a widely used method to address the issues of poor sensitivity and selectivity encountered with bare electrodes. This article reviews various materials commonly used to modify electrode surfaces for the detection of uric acid and xanthine, focusing on properties that enhance electrocatalytic activity. We highlight recent trends in detecting these compounds using electrochemical methods with microfabricated devices and explore cutting-edge modification techniques involving novel nanomaterials, carbon derivatives, metallic nanoparticles, and polymers. The review includes a comparative analysis of these materials, addressing their strengths, limitations, and recent advancements, such as in carbon-based materials and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Finally, we critically examine the challenges and future prospects of electrochemical detection of UA and XA in real samples, offering strategies to address these issues. The challenges associated with determination of UA and XA in real samples are also discussed.

Abstract
An ultrasimple "turn-on" sensor for indirectly detecting ascorbic acid (AA) was prepared using N-acetyl-L-cysteine stabilized copper nanoclusters (NAC-CuNCs) via the AIE (aggregation-induced emission) effect controlled by Ce4+/Ce3+ redox reaction. This sensor fully utilizes the different properties of Ce4+ and Ce3+. Non-emissive NAC-CuNCs were synthesized by a facile reduction method. NAC-CuNCs easily aggregate in the presence of Ce3+ due to AIE, resulting in fluorescence enhancement. However, this phenomenon cannot be observed in the presence of Ce4+. Ce4+ possesses strong oxidizing ability and produces Ce3+ by reacting with AA via a redox reaction, followed by switching on the luminescence of NAC-CuNCs. Moreover, the fluorescence intensity (FI) of NAC-CuNCs increases with the concentration of AA in the range of 4-60 µM, with the limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.26 µM. This probe with excellent sensitivity and selectivity was successfully used in the determination of AA in soft drinks.

Abstract
In the present work, an electrochemical sensor based on reduced graphene oxide/β-cyclodextrin/silver nanoparticle/polyoxometalate (RGO-CD-AgNP-POM) was developed for the simultaneous detection of uric acid (UA) and L-tyrosine (L-Tyr). First, an RGO-CD-AgNP-POM nanocomposite was synthesized via a simple photoreduction method and characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray imaging (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). As an electrode material, RGO-CD-AgNP-POM showed wide linear ranges (0.5-500 μM for UA, and 1-400 μM for L-Tyr) and relatively low detection limits (0.11 μM for UA, and 0.23 μM for L-Tyr). In addition, the combination of supramolecular recognition from CD and excellent electrochemical performances from RGO, AgNPs and POM was expected to enhance the sensing performances toward UA and L-Tyr in real samples with favorable recovery ranges (99%-104%). This nanocomposite provides a new platform for developing the family of electrode materials.

Abstract
Nitrite has been linked to a variety of health issues, as well as cancer and oxygen deficiency when its allowable limit is exceeded. Nitrite monitoring and detection are required due to the negative effects on public health. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-based nanomaterials/composites have recently been shown to have the potential for various biological and medical applications like sensing, imaging, and drug delivery. As a result, this research creates an efficient electrochemical sensor by incorporating MOFs into polyaniline (PANI)/carbon nanotube (CNT) cast on the GCE. In situ oxidative polymerization was used to construct an aluminum succinate MOF (Al-Succin)-incorporated CNT/PANI nanocomposite (PANI/CNT@Al-Succin) and well characterized by various characterization techniques, namely, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TGA-DTA), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and four probes to measure DC electrical conductivity. Cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry techniques were employed to detect nitrite on the surface of PANI/CNT@Al-Succin-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). PANI/CNT@Al-Succin-modified GCE demonstrated good current response and electrocatalytic property towards nitrite compared to bare GCE. The newly synthesized electrode exhibited a high electrocatalytic activity towards nitrite oxidation and showed a linear response ranging from 5.7 to 74.1 μM for CV and 8.55-92.62 μM for LSV. The obtained LOD values for CV (1.16 μM) and LSV (0.08 μM) were significantly below the WHO-defined acceptable nitrite limit in drinking water. Results of recovery studies for real samples of apple juice, orange juice, and bottled water were 98.92%, 99.38%, and 99.90%, respectively. These values show practical usability of PANI/CNT@Al-Succin in real samples.

Abstract
Highly sensitive and specific detection of biomolecular markers is of great importance to the diagnosis and treatment of related diseases. Herein, Cu-TCPP@MOFs thin films were synthesized with tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (H2TCPP) as organic ligands and copper ions as metal nodes. The as-synthesized Cu-TCPP@MOFs thin films as electrode modifiers were used to modify the pre-treated glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and the electrochemical performances of Cu-TCPP@MOFs/GCE were evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Furthermore, as the working electrode, the constructed Cu-TCPP@MOFs/GCE was used for the investigation of ascorbic acid (AA) due to its outstanding electrocatalytic activities towards AA by several electrochemical methods, including cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and chronoamperometry (CA). The well-linear relationship was established based on different AA concentration ranges and the ideal detection limits (LOD) were obtained in the above-mentioned electrochemical methods, respectively. Furthermore, a Cu-TCPP MOFs@GCE sensing platform was used as a photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor to quantitatively detect AA based on the strong absorption properties of Cu-TCPP ingredients in Cu-TCPP MOFs in a visible light band of 400~700 nm. PEC sensing platform based on Cu-TCPP@MOFs exhibited a more extensive linear concentration range, more ideal detection limit, and better sensitivity relative than the other electrochemical methods for AA. The well linear regression equations were established between the peak current intensity and AA concentrations in different electrochemical technologies, including CV, DPV, and CA, and PEC technology. AA concentration ranges applicable to various electrochemical equations were as follows: 0.45~2.10 mM of CV, 0.75~2.025 mM of DPV, 0.3~2.4 mM of CA, 7.5~480 μM of PEC, and the corresponding detection limits for AA were 1.08 μM (S/N = 3), 0.14 μM (S/N = 3), 0.049 μM (S/N = 3), and 0.084 nA/μM. Moreover, the proposed Cu-TCPP MOFs@GCE electrochemical and photoelectrochemical sensing platform was applied to determine the AA concentration of a real human serum sample; the results reveal that Cu-TCPP MOFs@GCE sensing platform could accurately determine the concentration of AA of the human serum under other potential interferences contained in the human serum samples.

Abstract
The aim of this research is to introduce a novel label free electrochemical immunosensor based on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with carboxylated carbon nanotubes (COOH-MWCNTs)/polyaniline (PANI)/gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for the detection of prostate specific antigen (PSA). The AuNPs were utilized as a connector for PSA antibody immobilization through NH2 groups on antibody. Investigations on modified electrode surface were performed by FT-IR spectrum, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) to evaluate the synthesized nanocomposite and modified electrode surface. As a sensitive analytical method for the detection of PSA, differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was employed in different ranges of antigen concentration, 1.66 ag·mL-1 to 1.3 ng·mL-1. In addition, the detection limit was obtained 0.5 pg·mL-1, from the linear relationship between antigen concentration log and peak current. Also, the proposed immunosensor was carried out for the determination of PSA in human serum samples, indicating recoveries ranging from 92 to 104%. Finally, it should be noted that the reproducibility and specificity, along with the stability of the present immunosensor were examined, and satisfactory findings were obtained, thus proving it as a promising PSA immunosensor.

Abstract
The authors describe an immunosensor for the prostate specific antigen (PSA). It was obtained by modifying a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) first modified with gold nanoparticles and then with reduced graphene oxide that was decorated with gold nanoparticles. The AuNPs on reduced graphene oxide provide a suitable surface for attachment of antibodies. On binding of the antigen, the square wave voltammetric signal (measured by using hexacyanoferrate as a probe) reduced. This method has two logarithmically linear analytical ranges that extend from 25 to 55 fg.mL-1 and from 1 to 36 ng.mL-1, respectively. The lowest detection limit is 2 pg.mL-1. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was also carried out for PSA determination. EIS works in the 0.0018 to 41 ng.mL-1 concentration range and has an LOD of 60 pg.mL-1. This method was applied to the determination of PSA in (spiked) human serum samples. In order to survey the selectivity of immunosensor, determination of PSA was performed in human serum samples, and finally sensitivity and reproducibility were examined. Abstract
We demonstrate a facile electrochemical sensor (CNCo/GCE) based on N,Co-doped porous carbon (CNCo) as electrode materials for detection of uric acid (UA). The porous carbon materials were prepared via the direct carbonization of bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (BMZIFs) based on ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 with an appropriate molar ratio of Zn/Co at 900 °C in an N2 atmosphere. The properties of the BMZIFs and CNCo were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, and XPS. The electrochemical behaviors of the CNCo-modified electrode were investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV), impedance analysis (EIS), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and showed enhanced electrochemical catalytic activity toward UA. DPV was conducted for the determination of UA with a linear range of 2.0-110 μM and a low detection limit of 0.83 μM at an S/N = 3. Furthermore, the CNCo/GCE electrode showed good reproducibility and repeatability with RSDs of 3.07% and 3.26%, respectively. Additionally, the sensor was successfully employed to quantify UA in human serum samples with satisfactory recoveries, suggesting it is a promising candidate for biological applications.

Abstract
Highly stable palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) supported on a porous carbon aerogel (Pd/CA) prepared by a facile microwave reduction route is reported. The as-prepared Pd/CA composites were characterized by various techniques, viz. XRD, Raman, SEM-EDX, FE-TEM, BET, and TGA. The Pd NPs were found to disperse uniformly in the porous carbon matrix, which possesses a large surface area (851.8 m2 g-1) and pore volume (3.021 cm3 g-1). The Pd/CA composite was found to possess extraordinary electrocatalytic activity and excellent selectivity for simultaneous detection of dopamine (DA) and melatonin (ML). The Pd/CA-modified electrode exhibited a wide linear response range for electrochemical sensing of DA (0.01-100 μM) and ML (0.02-500 μM) with a detection limit of 0.0026 and 0.0071 μM, respectively. In addition, the electrochemical sensor reported herein was successfully applied for the detection of DA and ML in human serum and urine samples, revealing perspective practical applications.

Abstract
A ultrafast one-step microwave-assisted method was developed for the synthesis of nitrogen-sulfur co-doped carbon nanodots (N,S-CDs) by using ethylenediamine as the carbon source and sulfamic acid as the surface passivation reagent. The morphology and the properties of N,S-CDs were explored by a series of techniques, such as high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The prepared N,S-CDs exhibit bright blue photoluminescence with a high fluorescence quantum yield (FLQY) up to 28%, and high stability and excellent water solubility. A N,S-CDs-based fluorescent probe was developed for sensitive detection ascorbic acid (AA) in the presence of Cu(2+), based on the mechanism that AA reduces Cu(2+) to Cu(+), then Cu(+) quenches the fluorescence of N,S-CDs through electron or energy transfer due to the interaction between Cu(+) and thiol ligand on the N,S-CDs surface. The observed linear response concentration range was from 0.057 to 4.0μM to AA with a detection limit as low as 18nM. The probe exhibited a highly selective response toward AA even in the presence of possible interfering substances, such as uric acid and citric acid. Moreover, these promising features made the sensing system used for the analysis of human serum and urine samples.
