Abstract
The prevalence of periodontitis and dyslipidemia continues to increase, and several studies have reported an association between the 2. Therefore, we assessed the relationship between periodontitis and hypertriglyceridemia using propensity score matching to efficiently address confounding factors, as well as complex sample analysis with data from Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey VII (2016-2018). To match the 1:1 ratio between the groups with and without periodontitis, the propensity scores of covariates, such as age, sex, education, income, smoking, drinking, obesity, and diabetes mellitus, were calculated using logistic regression. Both results of logistic regression analysis using complex sample design for whole and matched sample after propensity score matching demonstrated a significant association between hypertriglyceridemia and periodontitis, of which the adjusted odds ratio was 1.28 (95% confidence interval = 1.10-1.50) and 1.29 (95% confidence interval = 1.09-1.52), respectively. Our findings suggest that dental healthcare workers can help raise awareness among patients with periodontitis regarding the association between periodontitis and hypertriglyceridemia, which may help them manage the condition and receive treatment.

Abstract
AIMS This study aims to examine the association between non-insulin-based insulin resistance indices and periodontitis severity in young males. BACKGROUND Periodontitis has been reported with an association with insulin resistance in middle- and old-aged adults. OBJECTIVE The association between insulin resistance and localized periodontitis in young adults is unclear. METHODS A total of non-diabetic 1,111 military males in Taiwan were included in this study. Localized periodontitis was classified as healthy (N =665), stage I (N =130), stage II (N =161), and stage III (N =155) based on the world workshop in 2017. Insulin resistance was assessed by serum triglycerides concentrations, the triglycerides glucose (TyG) index, the product of serum triglycerides and fasting glucose, and the ratio of serum triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C). Multiple logistic regression analysis with adjustment for age, tobacco smoking, alcohol intake, abdominal obesity, and hypertension was used to determine the associations. RESULTS Serum TG concentrations, TyG index, and TG/HDL-C ratio were dose-dependently associated with a greater risk of localized periodontitis severity (from stage I to stage III) [odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals: 1.001 (0.999-1.004), 1.003 (1.001-1.004) and 1.003 (1.002- 1.005) for TG; 1.45 (1.03-2.03), 1.65 (1.22-2.22) and 1.66 (1.22-2.26) for TyG index; 1.06 (0.99- 1.14), 1.09 (1.03-1.15) and 1.10 (1.04-1.16) for TG/HDL-C ratio]. However, the association was only found in obese individuals and those free of impaired fasting glucose. CONCLUSION The present study confirmed that periodontitis may lead to insulin resistance in young male adults, particularly for those with obesity and without hyperglycemia. The TyG index is suggestive as the strongest indicator for the association between insulin resistance and periodontitis in young adults.

Abstract
Background: Periodontitis is one of the most common diseases associated with the oral
cavity. Previous studies have suggested that there is an association between
periodontitis and metabolic dysfunction. Recently, the triglyceride glucose
(TyG) index, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio, and
metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR) index have been identified
as useful markers for assessing insulin resistance. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between periodontitis and
non-insulin-based insulin resistance (IR) indices and compare the predictive
values of these indices in the Korean population. Design: This is a cross-sectional study. Methods: A total of 13,584 participants were included in the 2013–2015 Korean National
Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data. A community periodontal index
score⩾3 was used to define periodontitis. Participants were divided into
quartiles according to each index. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence
intervals (CIs) for the prevalence of periodontitis and the TyG index,
TG/HDL-C ratio, and METS-IR index quartiles were calculated using multiple
logistic regression analysis. We estimated the areas under the receiver
operating characteristic curves (AUCs) of the indices to compare the
predictive values of the three indices. Results: Compared with quartile 1, the fourth quartile ORs (95% CIs) for periodontitis
were 1.23 (1.01–1.49) for the TyG index, 1.23 (1.02–1.48) for the TG/HDL-C
ratio, and 1.53 (1.25–1.88) for the METS-IR index after adjustment for
confounders. The AUC (95% CIs) was 0.608 (0.598–0.618) for the TyG index,
0.600 (0.590–0.610) for the TG/HDL-C ratio, and 0.617 (0.608–0.627) for the
METS-IR index to identify periodontitis. The predictive power of METS-IR was
significantly higher than that of the TyG index and TG/HDL-C. Conclusion: Higher TG/HDL-C ratio, TyG, and METS-IR indices are associated with a higher
prevalence of periodontitis. The METS-IR index is a more powerful predictor
of periodontitis prevalence than the TyG index and TG/HDL-C ratio.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Periodontitis and the Triglyceride/High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio have both been associated with cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and obesity. Additionally, the ratio is a possible substitute for predicting insulin resistance. This study investigated the association between periodontitis, its severity levels (exposures), and the TG/HDL-C ratio (outcome). METHODS A cross-sectional study of public health service users in Brazil considered socioeconomic-demographic characteristics, lifestyle behavior, and general and oral health conditions. Anthropometric measurements and blood pressure were also measured. Systemic biomarker data were obtained, as well as assessment of periodontal diagnosis and its severity. The TG/HDL-C ratio was calculated using the serum triglyceride level over HDL cholesterol and the cut-off point, TG/HDL-C ≥2.3 serving as the cutoff indicting dyslipidemia. Logistic and linear regressions were used to statistically analyze the data. RESULTS A total of 1011 participants were included, with 84.17% having periodontitis and 49.85% having a TG/HDL-C ratio ≥2.3. For individuals with periodontitis, the odds of TG/HDL-C ratio ≥2.3 were 1.47 times greater than in those without periodontitis (ORAdjusted = 1.47, 95% CI: 1.02-2.14). Similar results were found for those with moderate and severe periodontitis, with a slight increase in the measurement magnitude with disease severity. CONCLUSION A positive relationship between periodontitis and the TG/HDL-C ratio ≥2.3 was found, suggesting a possible association with periodontal disease severity.

A cohort study on risk factors of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol hypolipidemia among urban Chinese adults. Lipids Health Dis 2021; 20:20. Abstract
Background High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) hypolipidemia, a major type of dyslipidemia, has been associated with many kinds of diseases, such as stroke, coronary heart disease, obesity and diabetes, and has displayed an increasing prevalence in China. This study explores the risk factors of HDL-C hypolipidemia and makes recommendations for controlling and preventing HDL-C hypolipidemia and the diseases caused by it. Methods Using a retrospective cohort study design, 26,863 urban adults without dyslipidemia, diabetes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, hepatosis, renal insufficiency and thyroid diseases were enrolled in the study between 2010 and 2015. Data on each individual were collected at the 2010 baseline year and at a follow-up medical check. A Cox regression model was constructed to evaluate the influence of potential risk factors on the outcome event- HDL-C hypolipidemia. Results The incidence of HDL-C hypolipidemia was 5.7% (1531/26863). Sex, age, body mass index (BMI), HDL-C, triglyceride (TG) and urea nitrogen (UN) were significant risk factors of HDL-C hypolipidemia. Men were more likely to develop HDL-C hypolipidemia than women during follow-up medical checks (HR = 1.258, P = 0.014). The incidence of HDL-C hypolipidemia in the over 65 years old group was higher than that of the ≤65 age group (HR = 1.276, P = 0.009). The incidence of HDL-C hypolipidemia increased with increasing BMI (HR = 1.030, P = 0.002), TG (HR = 1.321, P = 0.001) and UN (HR = 1.054, P = 0.019), while falling with increasing HDL-C in the baseline year (HR = 0.002, P < 0.001). Conclusions Men, aged over 65, with high BMI were at the highest risk of developing HDL-C hypolipidemia. Measures should be taken to prevent HDL-C hypolipidemia even for healthy urban adults whose blood biochemical indicators were in the normal range when their level of TG, UN and HDL-C are closed to the border of the normal value range.

Abstract
Periodontal disease and hyperlipidemia are both multifactorial disease with a high prevalence Worldwide. Cross-sectional and longitudinal prospective clinical studies show some evidence for a bidirectional relationship. Periodontitis and hyperlipidemia share some common risk factors and there exist a mechanistic link between both. Studies have found a positive response to periodontal therapy among hyperlipidemic patients, and statin use by hyperlipidemic patients has shown to influence the periodontal health. However, in spite of the rising prevalence of both diseases, many people remain unaware of their association with each other. Hence, this article summarizes the cyclic relationship between periodontal disease and hyperlipidemia.

Abstract
We determined the relevance between the TG-to-HDL-C ratio and stent restenosis. Ninety-nine patients with in-stent stenosis (ISR) who were admitted to An Zhen Hospital in Beijing between April 2014 and June 2017 were selected. At the same time, 122 patients with coronary stenosis <50% were selected. All patients were tested for TG, HDL-C, and TG/HDL-C ratio. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) can assess microscopic status in all ISR patients. The proportion of male and Diabetic patients were significantly higher for ISR. There were differences in the prevalence of cigarette smokers among the different tissue types, among which the layered tissue type accounted for the highest proportion. In logistic regression analysis the study showed that male, diabetes mellitus, and the TG/HDL-C ratio are risk factors for ISR. The ISR ROC was 0.725 based on the TG/HDL-C ratio diagnosis. It is related to the degree of coronary stenosis and effective in diagnosing in-stent stenosis in ISR.
