Abstract
BACKGROUND In this review article, we aimed to discuss the pathogenesis of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) in patients with different forms of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), with special reference to the connection of the immune response of the nasal and middle ear mucosa and inner ear structures. METHODS Articles for this review were identified using PubMed and Google© Scholar databases. RESULTS Different phenotypes of CRS may be associated with impaired function of the inner and outer cells of the organ of Corti. This is primarily due to the secondary CRS, which occurs within systemic diseases, such as granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA). Also, the tetrad, which includes CRS with nasal polyps, non-allergic asthma, hypersensitivity to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and so-called eosinophilic otitis media can lead to SNHL. CONCLUSION Previous studies suggest that disrupted harmony between the immune response in the nasal and middle ear mucosa and inner ear structures may contribute to developing SNHL in CRS patients. This especially applies to CRS as part of NSAID-exacerbated respiratory disease and systemic necrotizing vasculitis, including GPA and EGPA. However, the exact mechanisms of development of SNHL in different forms of CRS have not been sufficiently investigated and new studies are necessary soon. Apart from the pathophysiological basis of SNHL, different therapeutic approaches in the clinical phenotypes of CRS have also been discussed.

Abstract
Prior research has indicated a connection between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and hearing impairment (HI), although there is disagreement among researchers. An extensive assessment of the causal relationship between RA and HI was the aim of this Mendelian randomization (MR) study. We examined summary-level data from RA and HL genome-wide association studies using inverse variance weighted (IVW) analysis. We further supplemented the results with weighted median (WM), MR-Egger, MR-RAPS, and maximum likelihood techniques. We used sensitivity analyses to check the accuracy of the MR analysis results. Genetically, higher RA substantially increases the likelihood of HI (IVW: P = 8.78 × 10-03, odds ratio (OR) = 1.014, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.003-1.024). Sensitivity analysis reveals a consistent direction of the association using the following methods: Bayesian MR (P = 8.72 × 10-03, OR = 1.014, 95% CI: 1.004-1.025), MR robust adjustment profile score (P = 2.31 × 10-02, OR = 1.013, 95% CI: 1.002-1.024), maximum likelihood method (P = 2.70 × 10-02, OR = 1.014, 95% CI: 0.996-1.026), WM (P = 1.35 × 10-01, OR = 1.012, 95% CI: 0.996-1.029), and MR-Egger (P = 1.41 × 10-01, OR = 1.011, 95% CI: 0.996-1.027). Despite not achieving statistical significance, the WM and MR-Egger approaches offered reliable guidance. Moreover, we replicated our results on other datasets and obtained similar results (IVW: P = 8.71 × 10-03, OR = 1.016, 95% CI: 1.004-1.028), indicating the validity of our results. Our study provides evidence linking RA to a higher risk of HI. In order to gain more insight into treatments that change the disease or prevent hearing loss, audiological testing is necessary for the diagnosis and follow-up of individuals with RA.

Abstract
Hearing impairment in patients with rheumatoid arthritis has been underestimated for decades. Rheumatoid arthritis can affect both the middle ear (specifically, the incudomalleolar and incudostapedial joints) and inner ear (including the cochlea and acoustic nerve) simultaneously. Despite ongoing research, consensus on effective treatments for hearing impairment in these patients remains elusive. This systematic review aims to consolidate clinically relevant information for healthcare providers by summarizing current evidence on hearing impairment in rheumatoid arthritis patients. We conducted the current systematic review by searching platforms of PubMed, Embase, ClinicalKey, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect to retrieve eligible articles regarding hearing impairment related to rheumatoid arthritis. We extract any data on characteristics, pathophysiology, examination, and treatment related to rheumatoid arthritis. Based on the currently available evidence, we advocate for the use of specific audiometric tests to facilitate early detection of hearing impairment in these patients. Regular audiological assessments are recommended to monitor hearing ability and potentially prevent further deterioration. Finally, we propose a modified treatment protocol that integrates steroids, hydroxychloroquine, and non-invasive brain stimulation as a novel therapeutic approach for managing these symptoms. This protocol aims to offer clinicians new strategies to address hearing impairment in patients with rheumatoid arthritis effectively.

Abstract
Audiovestibular dysfunction in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus has been underestimated for decades. Systemic lupus erythematosus can affect both the auditory and vestibular systems simultaneously. Several potential pathophysiological mechanisms behind systemic lupus erythematosus-related audiovestibular dysfunction have been proposed, including antibody-mediated immune responses, cell-mediated cytotoxicity, immune complex deposition in microvessels, central involvement in the audiovestibular pathway, and ototoxicity from medications used in systemic lupus erythematosus treatment. Currently available tests to evaluate audiovestibular function in systemic lupus erythematosus patients are neither specific nor sensitive. Nevertheless, there is no consensus regarding the efficacy of treatments for audiovestibular dysfunction in such patients. In this systematic review, we electronically searched the PubMed, Embase, ClinicalKey, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect platforms to find eligible articles. The first inspection date was on 29 December 2023 and the final update search date was on 11 June 2024. Further, we rated the quality of the included articles with Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Based upon the aforementioned systematic review process, we have summarized the currently available evidence on the characteristics, pathophysiology, examination, and treatment of audiovestibular dysfunction related to systemic lupus erythematosus. Furthermore, we have proposed a specific steroid treatment protocol to manage audiovestibular dysfunction related to systemic lupus erythematosus. Audiovestibular dysfunction related to systemic lupus erythematosus may be responsive to adequate treatments, potentially allowing for reversibility if the disease is recognized and managed in a timely manner. Therefore, to provide clinically relevant evidence to clinicians, we have organized this literature review article to summarize the available evidence on the characteristics, pathophysiology, examination, and treatment of audiovestibular dysfunction in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Finally, based on our modified steroid treatment protocol, we would like to provide a new treatment strategy to clinicians to manage systemic lupus erythematosus-related audiovestibular dysfunction.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA) is a rare, autoimmune, multisystemic disease characterized by vasculitis and necrotizing granuloma that commonly affects the upper and lower respiratory tract and kidneys. Audiovestibular dysfunction in GPA diseases may have different clinical presentations. The aim of the present study was to evaluate hearing function in patients with GPA and to compare the results with a healthy control group. Materials and Methods: A total of 34 individuals participated in the study. The GPA group consisted of 14 participants, and the control group was composed of 20 healthy participants with no signs or symptoms of ear disease. The ages ranged from 18 to 65 years old, with a mean age of 43.8 years. The participants underwent a complete audiological evaluation using otoscopy, impedance audiometry, pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry-evaluation of speech thresholds, and speech recognition in quiet. Both ears were tested. All of the participants of the study were native Lithuanian speakers. Data were statistically analyzed using the Statistical Analysis System software SAS® Studio 3.8. A p value < 0.05 was regarded as statistically significant. Results: 92.85% of patients from the GPA group reported hearing-related symptoms: hearing loss, tinnitus, and fullness in the ears. The arithmetic means of all hearing thresholds at frequencies from 125 Hz to 8000 Hz were significantly higher in the GPA group. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the two groups in the Speech Detection Threshold, Speech Recognition Threshold, Speech Discomfort level, and Word Recognition Scores. Conclusions: The frequency of hearing loss, the average hearing thresholds, and speech thresholds were higher in GPA patients than in healthy individuals. The most common type of hearing loss was sensorineural. Audiological assessments should be considered during the routine evaluation of patients with GPA disease to prevent hearing-related disabilities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Although sensorineural hearing loss may have different aetiologies, we focused on autoimmune hearing loss since it may be reversible with corticosteroid therapy; this entity is sometimes associated with systemic autoimmune diseases. Hashimoto's thyroiditis or chronic autoimmune thyroiditis shows antibodies and may be harmful to hearing thresholds regardless of hypothyroidism effect. To date this effect has not been sufficiently studied and never with extended high frequencies. The aim of this work is to study by age groups whether hearing thresholds in the human auditory range (128-20,000Hz) are affected in Hashimoto's disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two groups of 128 patients affected by Hashimoto's thyroiditis were included. First group: patients with pathological antithyroid antibodies who do not need L-thyroxine treatment. Second group: patients controlled with L-thyroxine substitutive treatment. Audiometric threshold study comparing between the groups of patients and a group of 209 controls was performed. All patients underwent complete otorhinolaryngological examination, antithyroid antibodies, TSH, T3 and T4 blood levels, tympanometry, conventional pure-tone audiometry, and extended-high-frequency audiometry. RESULTS All patients were women. Both groups showed worst audiometric thresholds than the control group; both study groups showed worse hearing than controls, this difference was statistically significant in all frequencies. In the 8-20kHz frequency range, this difference was more than 10dB, and in the 9-16kHz and 20kHz range this difference was more than 20dB. When separated by age groups, in younger subjects (20-29 years) these differences were found in all frequencies, except for conversational frequencies (500-4,000Hz); between 30 and 49 years the difference is statistically significant in all frequencies; and from 50 to 69 years differences are found, especially in the conversational frequencies. CONCLUSIONS This first work studying the human auditory range in the chronic autoimmune thyroiditis or Hashimoto's thyroiditis confirms that hearing loss related to the autoimmune disorder predominates at extended-high-frequencies initially. But ends up involving all frequencies in pure-tone conventional audiometry, then it may be detected in routine clinical tests. These results support the role of extended-high-frequencies audiometry to diagnose subclinical hearing loss in patients affected by Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease which affects the joints and bones of individuals diagnosed with this condition. Little remains known about the possible impact of this disease on hearing function, particularly the possibilities of preventive audiology in low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs). The study aimed to review published evidence on hearing function in adults with RA. A scoping review of literature from January 2010 to August 2020 was conducted using Sage, ScienceDirect, PubMed, Scopus, Medline, ProQuest and Google Scholar. Studies published in English which reported on the audiological function in adult individuals with RA were included in the review. From 832 initial title records, 18 articles were included into the final scoping review. A qualitative analysis of the reviewed evidence revealed four themes: (1) hearing loss occurs-causality still unclear; (2) nature, degree and configuration of the hearing loss varies; (3) systematic and standardized assessment battery required; and (4) sensitive and specific measures for early detection needed. The occurrence of hearing loss in this population ranges between 21.3 and 66.6%, and this increased where advanced sensitive measures such as ultrahigh frequency and otoacoustic emission (OAEs) measures were included in the test battery. Many audiological tests were used in the studies in order to identify the presence and type of hearing loss in these individuals, with basic audiometry testing being the most commonly used. The most prevalent type of hearing loss was found to be a high frequency sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), with mixed (MHL) and conductive hearing losses (CHL) being present in some of the individuals. Causal links between RA and hearing loss remains unclear. Although there are limited studies which have reported on the audiological function in the population with RA, the studies which have been reviewed seem to establish an association between RA and the presence of hearing loss. The published high prevalence of hearing loss in this population, when compared to healthy control groups raises implications for well-designed studies that utilize sensitive audiologic diagnostic measures, with clear inclusion and exclusion criteria to ensure more accurate causal links establishment between RA and hearing loss in this population.

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the early clinical features and diagnosis of granulomatous polyangiitis(GPA) with head and neck symptoms as the first presentation. Methods:The data of 28 patients with GPA diagnosed in the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University from 2014 to 2021, whose first symptoms appeared on the head and neck, were collected. All patients underwent relevant imaging examinations, laboratory tests, endoscopy, and pathological tissue biopsies. Systemic glucocorticoid or combined immunosuppressive therapy was administered and followed up for 1-5 years. Results:Two patients refused treatment and were lost to follow-up; 26 patients were discharged with improved symptoms, complaining of nasal ventilation, resolution of supraorbital swelling, reduced dyspnoea, and renal symptoms. Five patients were repeatedly admitted to the hospital due to recurrent renal involvement. Conclusion:Although GPA often begins with head and neck symptoms, it is non-specific and can easily be confused with chronic inflammatory disease, leading to misdiagnosis. If suspicious cases are identified, they should be combined with endoscopy, pathological tissue biopsy, and special laboratory tests as early as possible to shorten the time to diagnosis, and obtain early diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
Inflammatory arthritis can affect the auditory system during the disease course. Although most cases show asymptomatic hearing impairment, it can result in hearing loss. Here we describe the case of a 70-year-old female with hearing impairment associated with idiopathic inflammatory arthritis in her auditory system. She had suffered from hearing difficulties for decades; however, the causes of her hearing impairment had not been evaluated. Pure tone audiometry showed severe sensorineural hearing loss requiring a cochlear implant. The workup for the cochlear implant revealed erosive changes in the incudomalleolar and incudostapedial joints with soft tissue swelling on temporal bone computed tomography. Bone pathology revealed plasmacytic infiltration and granulomatous inflammation. Laboratory examinations showed elevated levels of inflammatory markers; otherwise, she had negative results for all autoantibodies. In patients with idiopathic hearing loss, inflammatory arthritis of the middle ear without peripheral arthritis can provide a clue regarding the cause of the hearing loss.

Abstract
Granulomatosis with polyangiitis is a systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology, characterized by necrotizing granulomas. It is an autoimmune disease affecting small- and medium-sized vessels of upper and lower respiratory tract, kidneys, and other organs. We described a case of a patient with otitis media with effusion as the first manifestations of granulomatosis with polyangiitis. A 54-year-old female presented as an urgent case with history of a severe otalgia, hearing loss, vertigo, and fever. The patient was treated with diagnosis of otitis media with effusion and acute rhinosinusitis, but without significant success. She developed an acute kidney dysfunction as a sign of glomerulonephritis with rapidly progressive renal failure. Diagnosis of granulomatosis with polyangiitis was confirmed after the histopathological analysis of kidney tissue, not by analysis of middle ear and paranasal sinus mucosa specimens. The patient was treated according to generally accepted protocol, and over time, there was an almost complete recovery.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease (AIED) can be of a primary or secondary type. To date, a clear pathogenesis of the disease is still not available. Focusing on the secondary forms of AIED, the aim of this review is to (i) assess and describe the hearing involvement in patients affected by autoimmune diseases, (ii) describe the possible association between clinical features (among serological/laboratory data and disease activity/duration) and hearing impairment, (iii) show evidence connecting the AIED types with various etiopathogenetic mechanisms. AREAS COVERED A PRISMA-compliant systematic review was performed. Medline, Cochrane, Embase, and Cinahl were searched from 1 January 2015 through to 5 August 2020. Overall, 16 studies (involving 1043 participants) were included in the review. The data in the literature suggested that bilateral mild-to-moderate sensorineural hearing loss is a commonly reported clinical symptom of AIED. EXPERT OPINION Patients with systemic autoimmune disorders present a cochlear injury which might be associated with the humoral and/or cellular immune response against the inner ear. To date, AIED pathogenesis remains an open issue, due to the rarity of these clinical entities and due to the difficulties in investigating the inner ear immunology, considering the inner ear inaccessibility for tissue sampling.

Clinical Feature and Prognosis of Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss With Rheumatoid Arthritis. Otol Neurotol 2021; 42:e267-e271. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Recent publications reported that patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) experience an increased risk of suffering sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL), however, these cases are poorly understood. This study aims to explore the clinical presentations and hearing recovery of SSNHL patients with RA. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective study. SETTING Tertiary medical center. PATIENTS Forty-seven SSNHL patients with RA (RA group) and 431 SSNHL patients without RA (non-RA group) were recruited between April 2015 and June 2019. INTERVENTIONS In the non-RA group, all patients were administrated with oral steroids. In the RA group, 21 patients were treated with oral steroid (OS group) and 26 patients were administrated with intratympanic steroids plus oral steroids (IS+OS group). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES We explored the clinical features and hearing recovery of SSNHL patients with RA in comparison with patients without RA, we also evaluated the therapeutic effect of combined steroids in SSNHL patients with RA. RESULTS RA group had higher initial hearing loss level (mean 68.5 dB), final hearing threshold (mean 52.3 dB), the rates of profound hearing loss (48.9%), and no recovery (48.9%) than non-RA group (mean 55.1 dB, mean 34.8 dB, 32.9 and 27.6%, all p < 0.05), however, had lower hearing gains (mean 16.1 dB) and the rate of partial recovery (12.8%) than non-RA group (mean 20.3 dB and 28.8%, all p < 0.05). Furthermore, IS+OS group had higher hearing gains (mean 21.1 dB) and lower rate of no recovery (30.8%) than in the OS group (mean 10.0 dB and 71.4%, all p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS SSNHL patients with RA experienced severe hearing loss and had poor hearing prognosis. IS+OS provide better hearing recovery than OS for this population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence of hearing loss (HL) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), describe frequency-specific hearing threshold changes in this patient population as compared to age-matched control, and compare the clinical and serological profiles of patients with SLE with and without HL. METHODS A systematic review querying four databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane) was performed. Meta-analysis of available data was performed to determine the overall prevalence and odds ratio (OR) of HL, and compare mean differences in frequency-specific hearing thresholds between patients with SLE and control. Additionally, meta-analysis of proportions allowed for comparison of disease features present in patients with SLE with and without sensorineural HL. RESULTS This review included 17 studies reporting on 1326 patients (635 with SLE and 691 control). The pooled prevalence of HL in patients with SLE was 27%. In comparison to control, patients with SLE had a significantly higher odds of HL (OR 14.6, 95% CI: 8.5 to 25.0). Mean air-conduction hearing thresholds in patients with SLE were significantly elevated relative to control at 125 and 250 Hz. Mean bone-conduction hearing thresholds were significantly elevated in patients with SLE across all measured frequencies except at 3000 and 6000 Hz compared to control. Disease features did not significantly differ between patients with SLE with and without HL. CONCLUSION Compared to age-matched control, patients with SLE have increased odds of HL, which primarily manifests at low frequencies. Therefore, this patient population requires greater audiologic attention.

Abstract
Objective:To analyze the clinical features and prognosis of sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSNHL) with rheumatoid arthritis(RA), and evaluate the effect of the course of RA on the hearing recovery. Methods:We collected the clinical data of 43 SSNHL patients(46 ears) with RA(RA group) who were hospitalized in our hospital, and compared their clinical characteristics and prognosis with 386 SSNHL patients(400 ears) without RA(non-RA group). 43 SSNHL patients with RA were further grouped into <5 years group, 5-10 years group and >10 years group, and the hearing recovery was compared among three groups. Results:In the RA group, the initial pure tone average(PTA) of SSNHL and non-SSNHL ears were (64.53±12.77) dB HL and (31.28±8.53) dB HL, which were higher than those in the non-RA group(54.31±13.45) dB HL and(24.83±6.06) dB HL(P<0.05). After treatment, in the RA group, posttreatment PTA of SSNHL and non-SSNHL ears were (48.26±13.49) dB HL and (27.93±10.22) dB HL, which were higher than those in the non-RA group (33.65±9.22) dB HL and (21.86±6.88) dB HL(P<0.05), and the hearing gains of SSNHL ear and the rate of overall recovery were (16.27±6.01) dB HL and 52.17%, which were lower than those in the non-RA group (20.66±6.21) dB HL and 75.00%. No statistic difference was observed in the hearing gains of non-SSNHL ear between the two groups(P>0.05). The hearing gains in the <5 years group, 5-10 years group and >10 years group were (20.77±8.63) dB HL, (17.00±6.81) dB HL and (11.94±5.73) dB HL, statistic differences were observed among the three groups(P=0.010), but no statistic difference was observed in the rate of complete recovery, marked recovery, recovery and no recovery(P>0.05). Conclusion:SSNHL patients with RA often suffers a severe hearing loss, and the hearing recovery is poor. The longer the course of RA, the worse the prognosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence of hearing loss (HL) in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and to describe frequency-specific hearing threshold changes in this patient population compared to patients without AS. METHODS A systematic review querying 4 databases (PubMed, OVID Medline, Scopus, Cochrane) was performed to identify studies evaluating HL in patients with AS. Metaanalysis was performed to identify overall prevalence rate and OR of HL, as well as to compare mean differences in frequency-specific hearing thresholds between patients with and without AS. RESULTS Our metaanalysis included 14 studies and 1083 patients (598 with AS vs 485 without AS). The pooled prevalence of HL in patients with AS was 42.4% (95% CI 29.2-56.2). Patients with AS had a significantly higher OR of HL than patients without AS (OR 4.65, 95% CI 2.73-7.91). Mean differences in pure-tone hearing thresholds ranged from 0-5 decibels (dB) for frequencies of 0.25-4 kHz, and from 5-15 dB for frequencies of 6-16 kHz. CONCLUSION Patients with AS have higher odds of having HL than patients without AS. The AS population also presents with significantly impaired hearing thresholds across all conventional and extended pure-tone frequencies. This may manifest as slight to moderate HL. Results of this systematic review might justify increased attention to audiologic manifestations of patients with AS.

Abstract
Autoimmune sensorineural hearing loss is a rare clinical entity which accounting for less than 1% in all cases with hearing loss. The prevalence of hearing loss in immune-mediated inner ear diseases, as shown in case reports or single-center statistics, varies widely. We reviewed the current literatures on the association between sensorineural hearing loss and autoimmune diseases, focused on the prevalence of hearing loss in different autoimmune diseases, treatments and challenges.

Abstract
Background: Previous studies showed that one of the complications of rheumatoid arthritis disease was auditory disorder. The goal of the present study was to compare the auditory status in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and healthy individuals. Methods: In the present case-control study, 30 normal persons and 60 persons with rheumatoid arthritis with mean age of 46.72 and standard deviation of 6.76 of both genders were appraised using pure tone audiometry, tympanometry and speech audiometry. The mean disease duration in patients with rheumatoid arthritis was 12.51±6.09 years. Results: The frequency of hearing loss in rheumatoid arthritis group was significantly more than the control group (p=0.001). All patients had sensorineural hearing loss. Only in 5% of rheumatoid arthritis group, abnormal tympanometry (as type) was reported. Speech discrimination score analysis showed significant difference between the patients with rheumatoid arthritis and controls. In terms of hearing threshold level, the mean hearing threshold level (in 2000, 4000 and 8000 Hz frequencies) of the patients with rheumatoid arthritis was significantly higher than control group in both ears (p<0.05). A positive significant correlation was found among mean hearing threshold level in 4000 and 8000 Hz frequencies and rheumatoid arthritis duration in both ears. Conclusion: The frequency of hearing loss and the average hearing threshold in RA patients were higher than healthy individuals. The most common type hearing loss is sensorineural.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to review our current knowledge relative to the correlation between sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and autoimmune diseases, focusing on the prevalence of hearing loss in different pathologies and possible therapeutic approaches. A review of the literature on hearing loss in different forms of autoimmune disease has been carried out, with emphasis on incidence and prevalence of SNHL. Therapeutic protocols have been assessed including both conservative medical and rehabilitative methods. Cochlear implant outcomes have been investigated. The prevalence of hearing loss in autoimmune and immune-mediated inner ear diseases, as referred by case reports or single-center statistics, is widely variable. More difficult is the evaluation of severe/profound SNHL, usually reported in relation to cochlear implantation. Though these patients represent ideal candidates for cochlear implantation, as they become deaf after years of hearing; the associated systemic disease, the specific damage on inner ear structures and the medication taken may influence the result of cochlear implantation. The main problem is the cochlear fibrosis or ossification that has been found to affect 50% of implanted ears in patients suffering from autoimmune and immune-mediated SNHL. Hence, in the presence of severe/profound SNHL earlier implantation may be indicated before post-inflammatory obliterative changes to the cochlea.

Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic, autoimmune disease that present with intra-articular and extra-articular manifestations. Auditory system may be involved during the course of RA disease due to numbers of pathologies. The link between hearing impairment and RA has been discussed in the previous literature. In this study we provide an update on the clinical aspect of hearing impairment in RA. We suggest to test hearing in all newly diagnosed RA patients at diagnosis as well as regularly during the course of disease.
