Abstract
Osteonecrosis, characterized by bone cell death leading to impaired bone recovery, causes challenges in bone homeostasis maintenance. Bone homeostasis relies on the delicate balance between osteoclasts and osteoblasts, encompassing a series of complex and strictly regulated biological functions. Current treatments, including conservative therapies and surgeries, often fall short of expected outcomes, necessitating a reorientation towards more effective therapeutic strategies according to the pathogenesis. In this review, the authors hierarchically outlined risk factors, emerging mechanisms, and last-decade treatment approaches in osteonecrosis. By connecting mechanisms of bone homeostasis, the authors proposed future research directions should be focused on elucidating risk factors and key molecules, performing high-quality clinical trial, updating practice, and accelerating translational potential.

Abstract
Interstitial cystitis (IC), defined as a painful bladder syndrome (PBS), is a chronic condition that manifests itself as a suprapubic pain associated with an enhancing of frequency/urgency of urination, and for which there is no cure. Here, we present a retrospective pilot study on women affected from IC/PBS and treated with bovine lactoferrin (bLf). A total of 31 women, affected (20) or unaffected (11) from hereditary thrombophilia (HT), presented the median of 6 episodes of IC/PBS during the 6 months before the study. Treatment consisted of 17 weeks of orally administered Valpalf® capsules, containing bLf plus sodium bicarbonate and citrate. Out of 31 patients, only 3 women had one episode of IC/PBS during the follow-up period, while no episode was observed in 28 women. In the HT group, a significant decrease in both serum IL-6 and D-dimers was found after Valpalf® treatment. Moreover, in Valpalf®-treated women, cystoscopy revealed a global improvement in the appearance of the bladder, especially in term of inflammation/irritation and presence of Hunner ulcers. Even if our results must be corroborated by randomized double-blinded controlled trials on a larger number of patients, our observations indicate that bLf treatment is efficient in relieving IC/PBS symptoms, without side effects.

Abstract
PURPOSE Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a debilitating side effect of antiresorptive and antiangiogenic agents that can lead to progressive bone destruction in the maxillofacial region. Dental surgery, including tooth extractions, commonly trigger the onset of MRONJ. While guidelines suggest avoiding extraction when possible, complete avoidance is not always feasible, as necrosis can develop from dental and periodontal disease without dental procedures. The goal of this article is to provide an update review of current preventive and therapeutic approaches for MRONJ. METHODS A comprehensive electronic search was conducted on PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Scopus databases. All English articles encompassing randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, observational studies, and case studies were reviewed. The current medical treatments and adjuvant therapies for managing MRONJ patients were critically assessed and summarized. RESULTS Pentoxifylline and alpha tocopherol (PENT-E), teriparatide, photobiomodulation (PBM), photodynamic therapy (PDT), and the use of growth factors have shown to enhance healing in MRONJ patients. Implementing these methods alone or in conjunction with surgical treatment has been linked to reduced discomfort and improved wound healing and increased new bone formation. DISCUSSION While several adjuvant treatment modalities exhibit promising results in facilitating the healing process, current clinical practice guidelines predominantly recommend antibiotic therapy as a non-surgical approach, primarily addressing secondary infections in necrotic areas. However, this mainly addresses the potential infectious complication of MRONJ. Medical approaches including PENT-E, teriparatide, PBM, and PDT can result in successful management and should be considered prior to taking a surgical approach. Combined medical management for both preventing and managing MRONJ holds potential for achieving optimal clinical outcomes and avoiding surgical intervention, requiring further validation through larger studies and controlled trials.

Abstract
Currently, there is growing interest in the potential use of lactoferrin (LTF), a member of the transferrin family, for the improvement of tissue healing. In this sense, a literature search was conducted to integrate data published on the effect of LTF on jawbone repair. PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, LILACS, and Cochrane databases were retrieved according to the PRISMA 2020 statement. Articles in English, Spanish, and Portuguese were recovered, with no year restriction. In vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies were selected. A total of 742 articles were retrieved, 11 of which met the inclusion criteria (5 in vitro and 5 in vivo studies, and one clinical trial). The included data demonstrated wide variations in study design and LTF therapy protocols. Cell proliferation and viability were the primary outcomes evaluated in the in vitro studies, all of which reported a potential effect of LTF on the repair process. Of three in vivo studies, one reported a reduction in the overall healing rate, whereas the other two showed that LTF inhibited bone resorption and increased bone formation. The clinical trial's findings showed that LTF is a potential promoter of wound repair in patients with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws. Overall, data from the studies support a potential effect of LTF therapy on the process of jawbone repair.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a condition that affects the jaws and is characterized by exposed bone in the oral cavity that persists for more than eight weeks despite treatment. Additional criteria include that the patient should have a current or past history of antiresorptive drugs and/or in combination with antiangiogenic drugs, absence of metastasis, and no previous radiotherapy to the affected area. The radiographic features of MRONJ in most instances do not have any specific radiographic features. This is because standard radiographs usually show no stark abnormalities in the early stages of the disease. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to evaluate if any specific radiographic patterns are associated with primary cancers and between medications. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study is an observational case series. A total of 50 cases of possible osteonecrosis from June 2010 to June 2013 archives of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology were assessed. Based on the history, 12 cases that had a history of medication use that could lead to medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) were selected. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of these 12 cases were evaluated using the CBCT reconstruction program InVivo Dental version 6 (Anatomage Inc., San Jose, CA, USA). The number of areas showing sequestration, the pattern of osteonecrosis, and the extent were assessed. Primary cancer and the type of medication were also assessed to identify if certain cancers or drugs showed any distinctive pattern of osteonecrosis. Reconstructed panoramic images and true three-dimensional (3D) multi-planar images were assessed to study the condition. An oral and maxillofacial radiology resident in training and a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist assessed the images. RESULTS Radiographic findings varied among the 12 cases and included generalized sclerosis, osteosclerosis with widened periodontal ligament (PDL) space, bony sequestra, and bony necrosis. However, no specific or distinctive radiographic patterns were observed in any of the cases, regardless of the type of primary cancer or medication used. CONCLUSION It is challenging to radiographically distinguish between MRONJ cases with different primary cancer and/or medication. FUTURE DIRECTIONS Future studies should include evaluating larger samples with varying primary cancers and medications and combination drug therapies. Cases in an advanced stage of MRONJ do not have distinctive features due to extensive destruction and superimposed infection; it may be valuable to evaluate patients in the early stages of MRONJ to better understand distinguishing radiographic patterns specific to certain primary cancers or medications.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) with a red or infrared laser on the repair of post extraction sockets in rats administered alendronate (ALN). Forty male rats were randomly allocated into four groups: Control Group (CTR): subcutaneous administration of saline solution throughout the experimental period; Alendronate Group (ALN): subcutaneous administration of alendronate during the entire experimental period; Alendronate/Red Laser Group (ALN/RL): administration of ALN and irradiation with a GaAlAs laser (λ 660 nm); and Alendronate/Infrared Laser Group (ALN/IRL): administration of ALN and irradiation with a GaAlAs laser (λ 830 nm). The first lower molars were extracted 60 days after the beginning of the administration of the drugs. The PBMT was applied after tooth extraction (7 sessions with intervals of 48 hours between sessions). Thirty days after tooth extraction, the animals were euthanized. Micro-CT and histometric analysis were performed to assess the bone healing and soft tissue repair of the tooth socket. The ALN group presented with more bone than the CTR; however, most of this bone was necrotic. ALN does not affect the bone microarchitecture. On the other hand, PBMT with IRL enhances the bone density due to the increase in the number and reduction in the spacing of the trabeculae. The amount of vital bone and connective tissue matrix was higher in the ALN/RL and ALN/IRL groups than in the ALN and CTR groups. PBMT enhanced the healing of the post extraction sockets in rats subjected to ALN administration. Furthermore, IRL improved the new bone microarchitecture.

Abstract
In this article, we review the benefits of application of colostrum and colostrum-derived proteins in animal models and clinical trials that include chemotherapy with antimetabolic drugs, radiotherapy and surgical interventions. A majority of the reported investigations was performed with bovine colostrum (BC) and native bovine or recombinant human lactoferrin (LF), applied alone, in nutraceutics or in combination with probiotics. Apart from reducing side effects of the applied therapeutics, radiation and surgical procedures, BC and LF augmented their efficacy and improved the wellness of patients. In conclusion, colostrum and colostrum proteins, preferably administered with probiotic bacteria, are highly recommended for inclusion to therapeutic protocols in cancer chemo- and radiotherapy as well as during the surgical treatment of cancer patients.

Abstract
Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in cancer patients presents a considerable challenge in management. Current management is primarily based on interventions in a limited number of cases assessing a single approach. Medical management typically is reported to include antimicrobial therapy with or without surgery. Advances in the understanding of pathogenesis have led to the investigation of additional medical interventions for early-stage necrosis. We present 3 patients with advanced-stage MRONJ of the maxilla using combined medical modalities including antimicrobial therapy, photobiomodulation therapy, pentoxifylline, vitamin E, and synthetic parathyroid hormone. All patients had a good outcome and avoided surgical intervention. We also report biological and functional imaging that may assist in more effective diagnosis and management of MRONJ. The 3 patients reported suggest that combined medical management should be considered in all cases of MRONJ (including stage III) prior to determining if surgical intervention is required. Functional imaging with a technetium bone scan or positron emission tomography scan correlated with diagnosis and confirmed resolution in patients. We present 3 challenging MRONJ patients that were effectively managed with a combined medical and nonsurgical therapy that demonstrated good clinical outcomes avoiding surgical interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a severe adverse reaction experienced by some individuals to certain medicines commonly used in the treatment of cancer and osteoporosis (e.g. bisphosphonates, denosumab, and antiangiogenic agents), and involves the progressive destruction of bone in the mandible or maxilla. Depending on the drug, its dosage, and the duration of exposure, this adverse drug reaction may occur rarely (e.g. following the oral administration of bisphosphonate or denosumab treatments for osteoporosis, or antiangiogenic agent-targeted cancer treatment), or commonly (e.g. following intravenous bisphosphonate for cancer treatment). MRONJ is associated with significant morbidity, adversely affects quality of life (QoL), and is challenging to treat. This is an update of our review first published in 2017. OBJECTIVES To assess the effects of interventions versus no treatment, placebo, or an active control for the prophylaxis of MRONJ in people exposed to antiresorptive or antiangiogenic drugs. To assess the effects of non-surgical or surgical interventions (either singly or in combination) versus no treatment, placebo, or an active control for the treatment of people with manifest MRONJ. SEARCH METHODS Cochrane Oral Health's Information Specialist searched four bibliographic databases up to 16 June 2021 and used additional search methods to identify published, unpublished, and ongoing studies. SELECTION CRITERIA: We included randomised controlled trials (RCTs) comparing one modality of intervention with another for the prevention or treatment of MRONJ. For 'prophylaxis of MRONJ', the primary outcome of interest was the incidence of MRONJ; secondary outcomes were QoL, time-to-event, and rate of complications and side effects of the intervention. For 'treatment of established MRONJ', the primary outcome of interest was healing of MRONJ; secondary outcomes were QoL, recurrence, and rate of complications and side effects of the intervention. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS Two review authors independently screened the search results, extracted the data, and assessed the risk of bias in the included studies. For dichotomous outcomes, we reported the risk ratio (RR) (or rate ratio) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). MAIN RESULTS We included 13 RCTs (1668 participants) in this updated review, of which eight were new additions. The studies were clinically diverse and examined very different interventions, so meta-analyses could not be performed. We have low or very low certainty about available evidence on interventions for the prophylaxis or treatment of MRONJ. Prophylaxis of MRONJ Five RCTs examined different interventions to prevent the occurrence of MRONJ. One RCT compared standard care with regular dental examinations at three-month intervals and preventive treatments (including antibiotics before dental extractions and the use of techniques for wound closure that avoid exposure and contamination of bone) in men with metastatic prostate cancer treated with zoledronic acid. The intervention seemed to lower the risk of MRONJ (RR 0.10, 95% CI 0.02 to 0.39, 253 participants). Secondary outcomes were not evaluated. Dentoalveolar surgery is considered a common predisposing event for developing MRONJ and five RCTs tested various preventive measures to reduce the risk of postoperative MRONJ. The studies evaluated plasma rich in growth factors inserted into the postextraction alveolus in addition to standardised medical and surgical care versus standardised medical and surgical care alone (RR 0.08, 95% CI 0.00 to 1.51, 176 participants); delicate surgery and closure by primary intention versus non-traumatic tooth avulsion and closure by secondary intention (no case of postoperative MRONJ in either group); primary closure of the extraction socket with a mucoperiosteal flap versus application of platelet-rich fibrin without primary wound closure (no case of postoperative MRONJ in either group); and subperiosteal wound closure versus epiperiosteal wound closure (RR 0.09, 95% CI 0.00 to 1.56, 132 participants). Treatment of MRONJ Eight RCTs examined different interventions for the treatment of established MRONJ; that is, the effect on MRONJ cure rates. One RCT analysed hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment used in addition to standard care (antiseptic rinses, antibiotics, and surgery) compared with standard care alone (at last follow-up: RR 1.56, 95% CI 0.77 to 3.18, 46 participants). Healing rates from MRONJ were not significantly different between autofluorescence-guided bone surgery and conventional bone surgery (RR 1.08, 95% CI 0.85 to 1.37, 30 participants). Another RCT that compared autofluorescence- with tetracycline fluorescence-guided sequestrectomy for the surgical treatment of MRONJ found no significant difference (at one-year follow-up: RR 1.05, 95% CI 0.86 to 1.30, 34 participants). Three RCTs investigated the effect of growth factors and autologous platelet concentrates on healing rates of MRONJ: platelet-rich fibrin after bone surgery versus surgery alone (RR 1.05, 95% CI 0.90 to 1.22, 47 participants), bone morphogenetic protein-2 together with platelet-rich fibrin versus platelet-rich fibrin alone (RR 1.10, 95% CI 0.94 to 1.29, 55 participants), and concentrated growth factor and primary wound closure versus primary wound closure only (RR 1.38, 95% CI 0.81 to 2.34, 28 participants). Two RCTs focused on pharmacological treatment with teriparatide: teriparatide 20 μg daily versus placebo in addition to standard care (RR 0.96, 95% CI 0.31 to 2.95, 33 participants) and teriparatide 56.5 μg weekly versus teriparatide 20 μg daily in addition to standard care (RR 1.60, 95% CI 0.25 to 1.44, 12 participants). AUTHORS CONCLUSIONS Prophylaxis of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw One open-label RCT provided some evidence that dental examinations at three-month intervals and preventive treatments may be more effective than standard care for reducing the incidence of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in individuals taking intravenous bisphosphonates for advanced cancer. We assessed the certainty of the evidence to be very low. There is insufficient evidence to either claim or refute a benefit of the interventions tested for prophylaxis of MRONJ in patients with antiresorptive therapy undergoing dentoalveolar surgery. Although some interventions suggested a potential large effect, the studies were underpowered to show statistical significance, and replication of the results in larger studies is pending. Treatment of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw The available evidence is insufficient to either claim or refute a benefit, in addition to standard care, of any of the interventions studied for the treatment of MRONJ.

Abstract
Osteoporosis and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are both degenerative diseases. Osteoporosis often proceeds cognitive deficits, and multiple studies have revealed common triggers that lead to energy deficits in brain and bone. Risk factors for osteoporosis and AD, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, aging, chemotherapy, vitamin deficiency, alcohol abuse, and apolipoprotein Eε4 and/or Il-6 gene variants, reduce cellular glucose uptake, and protective factors, such as estrogen, insulin, exercise, mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors, hydrogen sulfide, and most phytochemicals, increase uptake. Glucose uptake is a fine-tuned process that depends on an abundance of glucose transporters (Gluts) on the cell surface. Gluts are stored in vesicles under the plasma membrane, and protective factors cause these vesicles to fuse with the membrane, resulting in presentation of Gluts on the cell surface. This translocation depends mainly on AKT kinase signaling and can be affected by a range of factors. Reduced AKT kinase signaling results in intracellular glucose deprivation, which causes endoplasmic reticulum stress and iron depletion, leading to activation of HIF-1α, the transcription factor necessary for higher Glut expression. The link between diseases and aging is a topic of growing interest. Here, we show that diseases that affect the same biochemical pathways tend to co-occur, which may explain why osteoporosis and/or diabetes are often associated with AD.

Abstract
The oral cavity is a non-uniform, extraordinary environment characterized by mucosal, epithelial, abiotic surfaces and secretions as saliva. Aerobic and anaerobic commensal and pathogenic microorganisms colonize the tongue, teeth, jowl, gingiva, and periodontium. Commensals exert an important role in host defenses, while pathogenic microorganisms can nullify this protective function causing oral and systemic diseases. Every day, 750-1000 mL of saliva, containing several host defense constituents including lactoferrin (Lf), are secreted and swallowed. Lf is a multifunctional iron-chelating cationic glycoprotein of innate immunity. Depending on, or regardless of its iron-binding ability, Lf exerts bacteriostatic, bactericidal, antibiofilm, antioxidant, antiadhesive, anti-invasive, and anti-inflammatory activities. Here, we report the protective role of Lf in different oral pathologies, such as xerostomia, halitosis, alveolar or maxillary bone damage, gingivitis, periodontitis, and black stain. Unlike antibiotic therapy, which is ineffective against bacteria that are within a biofilm, adherent, or intracellular, the topical administration of Lf, through its simultaneous activity against microbial replication, biofilms, adhesion, and invasiveness, as well as inflammation, has been proven to be efficient in the treatment of all known oral pathologies without any adverse effects.

Abstract
The connection between inflammation and cancer is well-established and supported by genetic, pharmacological and epidemiological data. The inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, have been described as important promoters for colorectal cancer development. Risk factors include environmental and food-borne mutagens, dysbalance of intestinal microbiome composition and chronic intestinal inflammation, with loss of intestinal epithelial barrier and enhanced cell proliferation rate. Therapies aimed at shutting down mucosal inflammatory response represent the foundation for IBDs treatment. However, when applied for long periods, they can alter the immune system and promote microbiome dysbiosis and carcinogenesis. Therefore, it is imperative to find new safe substances acting as both potent anti-inflammatory and anti-pathogen agents. Lactoferrin (Lf), an iron-binding glycoprotein essential in innate immunity, is generally recognized as safe and used as food supplement due to its multifunctionality. Lf possesses a wide range of immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties against different aseptic and septic inflammatory pathologies, including IBDs. Moreover, Lf exerts anti-adhesive, anti-invasive and anti-survival activities against several microbial pathogens that colonize intestinal mucosa of IBDs patients. This review focuses on those activities of Lf potentially useful for the prevention/treatment of intestinal inflammatory pathologies associated with colorectal cancer development.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a severe adverse reaction caused by the use of antiresorptive antiangiogenic medication. Treating MRONJ is difficult and besides standard treatments, which are conservative medical and surgical approaches, there are some adjuvant therapies that might further stimulate healing. The aim of this systematic review is to compare outcome and effectiveness of currently available adjuvant therapies for MRONJ. METHODS This systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. Articles focusing on mucosal healing in patients treated with an adjuvant therapy for MRONJ were selected and analysed. Inclusion was not limited to randomized controlled trials to present a complete review of the current literature. RESULTS A search was performed in Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. Thirty articles out of 3297 were included. Laser ablation had a success of 60-95% for complete healing. The controlled trials of leukocyte- and platelet-rich-fibrine (LPRF) showed 60-100% success for the same outcome. Fluorescence guided surgery had a complete healing percentage of 85-90%. CONCLUSIONS The results suggest that laser ablation, LPRF and fluorescence guided surgery might have a potential in improving the healing process. Interpreting the results should however be done with great care and a critical point of view, as most articles had a medium to high risk of bias. More randomized controlled trials are necessary to define the most beneficial therapy protocols. CLINICAL RELEVANCE It seems that adjuvant surgical therapies for treating MRONJ are beneficial for mucosal healing, but there is only low scientific evidence.

Abstract
Background. The aim of this study was to compare retrospectively the effect of three different treatment protocols on the healing outcome in patients with established medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Methods. A total of 34 MRONJ patients were recruited from the Department database and were divided according to the treatment protocols in a study group (G1) and two control groups (G2 and G3). G1 was treated with antibiotic therapy, surgery, leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF), and photobiomodulation; G2 was treated with antibiotic therapy and surgery; G3 was treated with antibiotic therapy and photobiomodulation. Various clinical variables and treatment protocols were analyzed to determine their correlation with the healing outcome at three and six months of follow-up. Results. There was a significant association between the different treatment protocols and the outcomes at both three and six months follow-up (p = 0.001 and p = 0.002, respectively). No significant association was observed between the outcomes and MRONJ localization, MRONJ stage, duration of drug treatment, gender, diabetes, corticosteroid therapy, smoking habits, underlying disease, and history of chemotherapy at both three and six months follow-up. Conclusions. Our results show that the combination of antibiotic therapy, surgery, L-PRF, and photobiomodulation may effectively contribute to MRONJ management.

Abstract
Among the multiple properties exhibited by lactoferrin (Lf), its involvement in bone regeneration processes is of great interest at the present time. A series of in vitro and in vivo studies have revealed the ability of Lf to promote survival, proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast cells and to inhibit bone resorption mediated by osteoclasts. Although the mechanism underlying the action of Lf in bone cells is still not fully elucidated, it has been shown that its mode of action leading to the survival of osteoblasts is complemented by its mitogenic effect. Activation of several signalling pathways and gene expression, in an LRPdependent or independent manner, has been identified. Unlike the effects on osteoblasts, the action on osteoclasts is different, with Lf leading to a total arrest of osteoclastogenesis. Due to the positive effect of Lf on osteoblasts, the potential use of Lf alone or in combination with different biologically active compounds in bone tissue regeneration and the treatment of bone diseases is of great interest. Since the bioavailability of Lf in vivo is poor, a nanotechnology- based strategy to improve the biological properties of Lf was developed. The investigated formulations include incorporation of Lf into collagen membranes, gelatin hydrogel, liposomes, loading onto nanofibers, porous microspheres, or coating onto silica/titan based implants. Lf has also been coupled with other biologically active compounds such as biomimetic hydroxyapatite, in order to improve the efficacy of biomaterials used in the regulation of bone homeostasis. This review aims to provide an up-to-date review of research on the involvement of Lf in bone growth and healing and on its use as a potential therapeutic factor in bone tissue regeneration.

Abstract
Despite recent advances in cancer therapy, current treatments, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy, although beneficial, present attendant side effects and long-term sequelae, usually more or less affecting quality of life of the patients. Indeed, except for most of the immunotherapeutic agents, the complete lack of selectivity between normal and cancer cells for radio- and chemotherapy can make them potential antagonists of the host anti-cancer self-defense over time. Recently, the use of nutraceuticals as natural compounds corroborating anti-cancer standard therapy is emerging as a promising tool for their relative abundance, bioavailability, safety, low-cost effectiveness, and immuno-compatibility with the host. In this review, we outlined the anti-cancer properties of Lactoferrin (Lf), an iron-binding glycoprotein of the innate immune defense. Lf shows high bioavailability after oral administration, high selectivity toward cancer cells, and a wide range of molecular targets controlling tumor proliferation, survival, migration, invasion, and metastasization. Of note, Lf is able to promote or inhibit cell proliferation and migration depending on whether it acts upon normal or cancerous cells, respectively. Importantly, Lf administration is highly tolerated and does not present significant adverse effects. Moreover, Lf can prevent development or inhibit cancer growth by boosting adaptive immune response. Finally, Lf was recently found to be an ideal carrier for chemotherapeutics, even for the treatment of brain tumors due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, thus globally appearing as a promising tool for cancer prevention and treatment, especially in combination therapies.
