Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the outcomes of cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in patients who underwent intrastromal femtosecond laser treatment of presbyopia (INTRACOR). METHODS This was an interventional case series of 8 patients (10 eyes) who presented for cataract surgery 6.1 ± 3.2 years (mean ± standard deviation [SD]) after INTRACOR (Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH) treatment. A monofocal IOL was implanted in 9 eyes (7 patients) and a small-aperture IOL was implanted in 1 eye. The IOL power was calculated without adjustments using biometry obtained after the INTRACOR treatment. For additional calculations, keratometry obtained before the INTRACOR treatment was used. Postoperative examinations included visual acuity testing, manifest refraction, defocus curve, ocular biometry, corneal tomography, aberrometry, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, and slit-lamp examination. RESULTS After the cataract surgery, the mean ± SD uncorrected distance visual acuity was 0.37 ± 0.17 logMAR, the corrected distance visual acuity was 0.10 ± 0.10 logMAR, and the manifest refraction spherical equivalent, adjusted to infinity, was +0.39 ± 0.63 diopters (D). Intermediate and near visual acuity, both uncorrected and distance-corrected, and distance-corrected defocus curves varied considerably among patients. Using biometry performed after INTRACOR, the traditional IOL power calculation formulas produced hyperopic outcomes, with the mean ± SD prediction error ranging from +0.72 ± 0.34 to +0.96 ± 0.41 D. Although the mean ± SD prediction error decreased (range: -0.34 ± 0.56 to -0.15 ± 0.53 D) when using keratometry obtained before INTRACOR, the accuracy remained low due to high variability. CONCLUSIONS In patients with cataract who had previous INTRACOR treatment, IOL power calculation could be inaccurate, with a tendency toward hyperopic outcomes. Abstract
Purpose To explore the effect of corneal spherical aberration on the visual acuity and visual quality of eyes implanted with the TECNIS Symfony intraocular lens (IOL). Methods A total of 43 patients with age-related cataract (60 eyes) undergoing phacoemulsification and TECNIS Symfony IOL implantation were enrolled in this study. The uncorrected distance (UDVA), intermediate (UIVA), near visual acuity (UNVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), contrast sensitivity, and ocular spherical aberration were recorded 3 months after surgery. Preoperative and postoperative corneal spherical aberration were also measured using the iTrace device. Objective scattering index (OSI), modulation transfer function cut-off frequency (MTF cut-off), and Strehl ratio (SR) were measured by the Optical Quality Analyzing System. Catquest-9SF questionnaire were applied too. Spearman's correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between spherical aberration and visual quality parameters. Results Patients were satisfied with their postoperatively visual quality. And the postoperative logMAR UDVA, UIVA, UNVA, and CDVA was 0.05 ± 0.07, 0.04 ± 0.06, 0.15 ± 0.07, and 0.03 ± 0.05, respectively. The mean preoperative corneal spherical aberration was 0.24 ± 0.10 μm, which is the only factor influencing postoperatively UNVA, and it was negatively correlated with UNVA and glare contrast sensitivity under 18 cpd (cycle/degree, cpd) spatial frequency (r = -0.403, -0.300, -0.360; all P < 0.05). Additionally, the greater the residual spherical aberration of the cornea, the better the near vision after operation. The mean postoperative ocular spherical aberration was -0.03 ± 0.07 μm, it was not correlated with visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and visual quality (all P > 0.05). Conclusion Preoperative positive spherical aberration can benefit near vision while decrease contrast sensitivities at high spatial frequencies when implanted with the TECNIS Symfony IOL.

Abstract
Purpose Based on the Chinese version of the Catquest-9SF scale, the contrast sensitivity meter and wavefront aberrometer were used to evaluate the visual quality of cataract patients implanted with different spherical aberrations IOL. Design Retrospective Observational Study. Methods Patients who had the lens implantation in our department from January 2020 to December 2021 were enrolled. All patients underwent uncorrected visual acuity, best corrected visual acuity and slit lamp microscope, high-order aberrations and contrast sensitivity test. The KR-1W wavefront analyzer (Topcon Medical System, Tokyo, Japan) was used to measure wavefront aberrations post-operation. The Chinese Catquest-9SF scale was used to score the postoperative visual satisfaction of the patients. Results 145 patients were screened according to the exclusion criteria, including 51 patients in the zero aspherical IOL (SOFTEC HD) group, 42 patients in the negative aspherical IOL (ZCB00) group, and a total of 52 patients in the spherical IOL (HQ-201HEP) group. The score was the highest in the zero spherical aberration group, followed by the negative spherical aberration group with the lowest scores in the spherical IOL group. Higher-order aberrations are relatively low in eyes implanted with the zero spherical aberration group. Contrast sensitivity with spherical lenses under glare-free and glare conditions was lower than those with aspheric lenses, and at higher frequencies the zero-aberration aspheric lens performed the best. Conclusion The Chinese Catquest-9SF scale provides an indication of visual quality after aspheric IOL implantation.

Abstract
PURPOSE To test the performance of a new monofocal intraocular lens, intended to extend depth of focus (Tecnis Eyhance, ICB00; Johnson & Johnson Vision, Inc) (ICB-IOL), in comparison to a standard monofocal IOL (Tecnis 1-piece, ZCB00; Johnson & Johnson Vision, Inc) (ZCB-IOL) of the same platform and material. METHODS Assessment of the optical performance of the two IOLs was made in vitro using an optical test bench with a model eye. The spherical aberration, modulation transfer function (MTF), and area under the MTF (MTFa) were obtained for pupil sizes ranging from 2 to 5 mm. Through-focus MTFa curves between -3.00 and +1.00 diopters (D) were obtained with three pupil sizes (2, 3, and 4.5 mm). Halo formation was also assessed for both lenses. RESULTS The ICB-IOL had slightly worse optical quality at its best focus (ie, lower MTF scores at distance vision) and more negative spherical aberration than the ZCB-IOL for pupils ranging from 2 to 3 mm. The maximum of the through-focus MTFa curve of the ICB-IOL with a 2-mm pupil shifted to a myopic defocus of -0.50 D. For larger pupils (≥ 3.5 mm), there were no differences in spherical aberration, MTF scores, and halo energy between the two lenses. CONCLUSIONS The new ICB-IOL is a modified monofocal lens with 0.50 D of additional power in its central 2-mm zone and more negative spherical aberration values, which induce a myopic shift of the maximum of optical quality and could improve intermediate vision. For pupils larger than 3.5 mm, there were no differences between IOLs. The new ICB-IOL design would produce photic phenomena comparable to a standard IOL. [J Refract Surg. 2020;36(9):625-632.].

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the visual performance of an individually customized intraocular lens (IOL) versus a standard spherical aberration-correcting IOL. METHODS In this prospective comparative study, 74 eyes of 60 patients scheduled for cataract surgery were randomized in a 2:1 ratio to receive either an individually customized IOL (; HumanOptics AG, Erlangen, Germany; customized group) or an aspheric IOL with a standard correction of spherical aberration (SA) (Tecnis ZCB00; Johnson & Johnson Vision Surgical, Inc., Santa Ana, CA; standardized group). In the customized group, IOL calculation was based on a minimum of a merit function that contained terms representing residual refraction, residual SA, and modulation transfer function. In the standardized group, the IOL was calculated with a routine procedure using the Holladay formula and had a standard SA correction of -0.27 µm. Refraction, visual acuity (far, intermediate, near), photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity, defocus curve, corneal and ocular spherical aberration, and pupil size were measured 4 weeks and 3 months postoperatively. RESULTS The customized group comprised 48 eyes of 37 patients and the standardized group 26 eyes of 23 patients. At 3 months, mean total ocular SA (5 mm) was 0.04 ± 0.06 µm in the customized group and -0.01 ± 0.05 µm in the standardized group. Uncorrected distance visual acuity and distance-corrected near visual acuity were statistically significantly better in the customized group. Contrast sensitivity testing yielded significantly better results in the customized group under photopic and mesopic conditions for almost all spatial frequencies. Compared to the standardized group, the defocus curve of the customized group showed a wider plateau surrounding the distance focal point. CONCLUSIONS With the implantation of an individually optimized aspheric IOL visual performance, especially contrast sensitivity, can be significantly improved compared to a standard aberration-correcting IOL. Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the effects of different residual total ocular spherical aberration (SA) on objective and subjective visual quality in pseudophakic eyes. Methods: This prospective consecutive study comprised 171 patients with age-related cataract and undergone unilateral uneventful phacoemulsification. All participants were divided into four groups based on residual ocular SA at 6 mm pupil: negative SA (≤-0.10 μm, group A), neutral SA (0.00 ± 0.05 μm, group B), slightly positive SA (0.10 ± 0.05 μm, group C), and more positive SA (0.20 μm, group D), respectively. Subjective visual acuity and contrast sensitivity, and objective optical quality and ocular aberrations were analyzed 3 months postoperatively. Results: There was no significant difference in baseline measurements across all groups. Postoperatively, no statistically significant differences were found in visual acuity between groups (P > .05), while differences reached statistical significance in mesopic contrast sensitivity at 12 and 18 cpd (P < .01). There were significant differences in ocular SA and higher-order aberrations at 6 mm pupil, as well as in optical quality parameters (P < .05). Group C showed a minimum value of objective scatter index (1.17 ± 0.55) but maximum values of modulation transfer function cutoff (31.94 ± 9.18) and optical quality value OV 100% (1.07 ± 0.31), indicating lower intraocular scattering and superior optical quality. Conclusions: This comprehensive evaluation is conducive to deepening the understanding of visual and optical performance of pseudophakic eye. A modest amount of positive ocular SA seemed to be a more preferable option for enhancing visual quality after aspheric ntraocular lense (IOL) implantation.
