Eco-friendly Approaches to Chromene Derivatives: A Comprehensive Review of Green Synthesis Strategies. Curr Top Med Chem 2025; 25:437-460. Abstract
Synthetic routes of chromene are an area of thrust research due to its wide application as pigments, agrochemicals, cosmetics, and an important nucleus scaffold for various pharmacologically active drugs. The chromene nucleus is an important moiety for the discovery of new drug candidates owing to its broad range of pharmacological actions like antitumor, antiinflammatory, antiviral, and many others. However, traditional synthesis techniques frequently use unsafe reagents and produce hazardous waste, presenting environmental issues. The ecofriendly production of chromene derivatives utilizes sustainable raw materials, non-toxic catalysts, and gentle reaction conditions to reduce ecological consequences. Innovative methods like microwave irradiation, ultrasound synthesis, the use of environmentally friendly solvents, a catalyst- based approach with minimal environmental impact, and mechanochemistry-mediated synthesis are implemented. These approaches provide benefits in scalability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of purification. This review compiles and presents various recently reported green synthetic strategies of chromene and its derivatives and gives the reader a clear idea of the detailed and critical aspects of various synthetic protocols described.

Abstract
Captopril (CAP) is a safe, cost-effective, and environmentally organic compound that can be used as an effective organo-catalyst. Functional groups of captopril make it capable to attach to solid support and acting as promoters in organic transformations. In this work, captopril was attached to the surface of magnetic graphene nitride by employing a linker agent. The synthesized composite efficiently catalyzed two multicomponent reactions including the synthesis of 1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyrimidine and 2-amino-4H-chromene derivatives. A large library of functional targeted products was synthesized in mild reaction conditions. More importantly, this catalyst was stable and magnetically recycled and reused for at least five runs without losing catalytic activity.

Abstract
By employing the naturally-originated molecule of creatine, Fe3O4@SiO2-creatine as an environmentally benign magnetic organometallic nanobiocatalyst was successfully prepared via a convenient and green route. Then to acquire an inclusive comprehension of different properties of the catalyst, it was studied by various characterization techniques such as FT‐IR, FE-SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, and VSM analyses. It was found that the size distribution of nanoparticles was an average diameter size of 70 nm. To examine the catalytic activity, it was applied in sequential knoevenagel condensation-Michael addition room temperature reaction of dimedone, malononitrile, and different substituted aromatic aldehydes to produce a variety of 2-amino-tetrahydro-4H-chromene-3-carbonitrile derivatives in a single step. Among the multiple outstanding advantages that can be mentioned for this work, some of the most noticeable ones include: affording the products in short reaction times with high yields, operating the reaction at ambient conditions and ease of catalyst separation.

Abstract
2H/4H-chromene (2H/4H-ch) is an important class of heterocyclic compounds with versatile biological profiles, a simple structure, and mild adverse effects. Researchers discovered several routes for the synthesis of a variety of 2H/4H-ch analogs that exhibited unusual activities by multiple mechanisms. The direct assessment of activities with the parent 2H/4H-ch derivative enables an orderly analysis of the structure-activity relationship (SAR) among the series. Additionally, 2H/4H-ch have numerous exciting biological activities, such as anticancer, anticonvulsant, antimicrobial, anticholinesterase, antituberculosis, and antidiabetic activities. This review is consequently an endeavor to highlight the diverse synthetic strategies, synthetic mechanism, various biological profiles, and SARs regarding the bioactive heterocycle, 2H/4H-ch. The presented scaffold work compiled in this article will be helpful to the scientific community for designing and developing potent leads of 2H/4H-ch analogs for their promising biological activities.

Abstract
One of the most common phenol-formaldehyde cyclic oligomers from hydroxyalkylation reactions that exhibit supramolecular chemistry are calixarenes. These macrocyclic compounds are qualified to act as synthetic catalysts due to their specific features including being able to form host-guest complexes, having unique structural scaffolds and their relative ease of chemical modifications with a variety of functions on their upper rim and lower rim. Here, a functional magnetic nanocatalyst was designed and synthesized by using a synthetic amino-functionalized calix[4]arene. Its catalytic activity was evaluated in a one-pot synthesis of 2-amino-4H-chromene derivatives. Besides, this novel magnetic nanocatalyst was characterized by spectroscopic and analytical techniques such as FT-IR, EDX, FE-SEM, TEM VSM, XRD analysis.

Application of nitrogen-rich porous organic polymer for the solid-phase synthesis of 2-amino-4H-benzo[b]pyran scaffolds using ball milling process. Mol Divers 2020; 25:323-332. Abstract
This paper presents the efficient synthesis of 2-amino-4H-benzo[b]pyrans using mesoporous poly-melamine-formaldehyde as a polymeric heterogeneous catalyst. According to the principals of green chemistry, the reaction was performed by the planetary ball milling process at ambient and neat conditions. The heterogeneous catalyst could be reused up to five runs with no reducing of catalytic efficiency. A variety of substituted 2-amino-4H-benzo[b]pyrans were obtained in good to excellent yields under eco-friendly conditions. Other advantages of the current methodology include short reaction time, wide substrate-scope, and use of a metal-free polymeric catalyst. Also, the current method avoids the use of hazardous reagents and solvents, tedious workup and multi-step purification. This work revealed that porous organic polymers containing Lewis base sites having acceptor-donner hydrogen bonding functional groups, and high porosity could play a vital role in the promotion of the one-pot multicomponent reactions in the solid-phase synthesis.
