Abstract
INTRODUCTION Approximately 70% of patients with stroke experience varying degrees of cognitive impairment, which imposes a substantial direct and indirect socioeconomic burden. Previous studies have shown that scalp acupuncture (SA) or repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in combination with other therapies is effective for poststroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). Limited by interstudy heterogeneity and the limited number of included studies, there is insufficient evidence of the efficacy of rTMS in combination with SA in treating PSCI. Therefore, this protocol aims to investigate the effectiveness of rTMS in conjunction with SA for patients with PSCI through a comprehensive meta-analysis. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This study will undertake a comprehensive search across nine distinct databases (Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, China Science and Technology Journal Database, China Biology Medicine and SCOPUS). The primary outcome will encompass the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and the Mini-Mental State Examination. The secondary outcomes are the modified Barthel Index, the Rivermead Behavioral Memory Test and the Digit Span Test. The bias risk assessment tool from the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions will be used to evaluate bias risk, and the GRADE will be applied to gauge the quality of evidence. Furthermore, we plan to perform an analysis of subgroups to investigate the heterogeneity, employ the leave-one-out approach for sensitivity evaluation and use funnel plots and Egger's test to determine publication bias, respectively. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval is not required in systematic review and meta-analysis. The review will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42024571762.

Abstract
Stroke-induced cognitive impairment is a common complication and an important risk factor for disability. Prevention and treatment of secondary stroke injuries are crucial. Modern research has found that the gut microenvironment can directly or indirectly affect neurological function and cerebral ischemic outcomes, and their crosstalk is achieved through the microbiota-gut-brain-axis (MGBA). Acupuncture, as a promising non-drug treatment, has been recommended for improving post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). However, in recent years, few studies have systematically analyzed the potential mechanisms in this field, and whether acupuncture can improve PSCI through the MGBA remains to be explored. This review comprehensively summarizes literature and shows that, acupuncture, as an adjuvant therapy can play a potential important role in the treatment of PSCI by regulating the microbiota-gut-brain-axis. Acupuncture can repair intestinal epithelial barrier, regulate gut microbiota and serum metabolites, alleviate gut inflammation and neuroinflammation, and regulating HPA axis function, etc. From the studies we have included, the evidence for its effectiveness remains limited, these results should be interpreted with caution due to the low quality of evidence. Future high-quality clinical and experimental studies are needed. This review also discussed the development prospects of acupuncture in improving PSCI via the MGBA, such as genomics, personalized therapy, establishment of standards, and combination therapy, etc. providing new research ideas and scientific and reliable evidence for the application of acupuncture in PSCI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study explores the relationship between smartphone addiction and sleep quality, and to further assess the mediating role of loneliness and depression. METHODS A survey of 200 older adults individuals was conducted using the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV) for smartphone addiction, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) for sleep quality, Geriatric Depression Scale-15 (GDS-15) for depression, and DeJong Gierveld Loneliness Scale (DGLS) for loneliness. Linear regression and mediation analysis were performed for statistical analysis. RESULTS A negative causal relationship was observed between smartphone addiction and sleep quality in the older adults (p < 0.05). Depression and loneliness in the older adults may potentially exacerbate the effect of smartphone addiction on sleep quality (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Individuals with smartphone addiction appeared to have poorer sleep quality, psychological factors play a mediating role in the association between smartphone addiction and sleep quality in the older adults. This emphasizes the importance of care for the mental health of the older adults and recognizes the negative impact of smartphone addiction on their quality of life.

Abstract
Background Poststroke irritability (PSI) is common among stroke survivors and can lead to a poor quality of life, difficulties in social interactions, criticism from caregivers, and caregiver stress. The planned study will evaluate the clinical, neuropsychological, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) correlates of PSI in a cohort of stroke survivors. In addition, the study will examine the 15-month progression of PSI. Methods This will be a prospective cohort study that will recruit 285 participants. Participants and their caregivers will undergo detailed assessments at a research clinic at 3, 9, and 15 months after stroke onset (T1/T2/T3). The irritability/lability subscale of the Chinese version of the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (CNPI) will be completed by caregivers. Potential covariates will also be measured. Patients will undergo MRI, including diffusion-weighted imaging, within 1 week of stroke onset. A stepwise logistic regression will be performed to evaluate the importance of lesions in the regions of interest (ROIs) along with other significant variables identified in univariate analyses. These analyses will be repeated for patients with and without PSI at T2 and T3. Repeated measures analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) will be used to assess changes in CNPI scores for the entire sample. In ANCOVA analyses, the frequency of infarcts in the ROIs will be treated as the predictor. Discussion This will be the first MRI study on PSI in stroke survivors. The findings will provide insights into the association of the orbitofrontal cortex, anterior cingulate cortex, anterior temporal lobe, insula, amygdala, thalamus, and basal ganglia lesions with the risk of PSI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The influence of fibrinogen as a risk factor in developing poststroke neuropsychological and cognitive problems is underreported. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between baseline fibrinogen levels and depression, anxiety, and cognition 30- and 90-day after stroke. METHODS This prospective study involved 48 patients with first-ever mild-to-moderate ischemic stroke, whose plasma fibrinogen levels were assessed within 24 h of stroke onset. Clinical depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairment were evaluated by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and Montreal Cognitive Assessment at 30- and 90-day after stroke. RESULTS After adjusting for important covariates, the multiple linear regression models showed that baseline plasma fibrinogen was associated with the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline at both 30- and 90-day follow-up (P < 0.05). The receiver operating characteristic curve showed that baseline fibrinogen threshold > 409.0 mg/dl (82.4% sensitivity and 71.0% specificity), >405.0 mg/dl (80.0% sensitivity and 71.4% specificity), and > 400.0 mg/dl (80.6% sensitivity and 76.5% specificity) could respectively predict the presence of depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairment 90 days after stroke. CONCLUSIONS High levels of baseline plasma fibrinogen are associated with the onset and severity of symptoms of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline at 30 and 90 days after stroke. This study shows that fibrinogen may be a viable target for monitoring and intervention in the management of poststroke neuropsychological and cognitive disorders. Future clinical trials are needed to clarify whether defibrinogenation will prevent or reduce the rate and severity of symptoms of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline among patients with ischemic stroke. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a prevalent and severe sequela of stroke. It is an emotional disorder that significantly impacts functional recovery, prognosis, secondary stroke risk, and mortality among stroke survivors. The incidence rate of PSD is 18 %∼33 %, with symptoms such as low mood, decreased interest, sleep disorders, decreased appetite, impaired attention, and in severe cases, hallucinations and even suicidal tendencies. While diverse therapeutic modalities are employed globally to address PSD, each approach carries its inherent advantages and limitations. Notably, acupuncture stands out as a promising and effective intervention for ameliorating PSD symptoms and enhancing stroke prognosis. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis to scrutinize the current landscape, identify hotspots, and explore frontiers in acupuncture research for PSD. METHODS A systematic search for acupuncture and PSD-related research was conducted from January 2014 to October 2023 on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). The data were downloaded and processed using Bibliometrix and VOSviewer to generate knowledge visualization maps. RESULTS A total of 11,540 articles related to acupuncture and PSD were retrieved. China emerged as the leading contributor with the highest volume of articles on acupuncture and PSD. Author Liu CZ attained the highest H-index, focusing primarily on investigating the compatibility effects and mechanisms of acupoints. Common hotspot keywords included pain, stimulation, mechanisms, complementary, and alternative medicine. The main research frontiers were mechanisms, neuroinflammation, gut microbiota, and therapeutic methods. CONCLUSION This study offered multifaceted insights into acupuncture for PSD, unveiling pivotal areas, research hotspots, and emerging trends. The findings aimed to guide researchers in exploring novel research directions and selecting appropriate journals for advancing the understanding and treatment of PSD through acupuncture interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Post-stroke depression is a common complication of stroke, with a high incidence rate and low recognition rate. Many patients do not receive effective intervention at the onset, which affects subsequent treatment outcomes. Post-stroke depression not only impacts the patient's mental well-being but also increases the risk of stroke recurrence and poor prognosis. Therefore, it has become a significant public health concern. Acupuncture has gained significant popularity in the treatment of post-stroke depression. However, there are inconsistent clinical research results regarding its efficacy and safety. This systematic review aims to gather and critically assess all available evidence regarding the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of post-stroke depression in patients. METHODS We will conduct thorough searches for relevant studies in multiple electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP Database, Wan-fang Data and China Biomedical Database). Our search scope will encompass studies published from the inception of each database until September 2023. To evaluate the potential bias in all the included studies, we will adhere to the guidelines offered in the Cochrane Handbook. The total effective rate will be the primary outcome. To conduct a systematic review, we will employ RevMan 5.4 software. RESULTS This study will obtain efficacy and safety of acupuncture for the treatment of post-stroke depression. CONCLUSIONS The conclusions of this study will provide evidence-based perspectives that can guide clinical decision-making regarding the practicality and recommended timing of using acupuncture to treat post-stroke depression. Furthermore, this study will help advance the clinical application of acupuncture treatment for post-stroke depression and enhance its efficacy while ensuring patient safety.

Abstract
Nearly one-third of all stroke patients develop depression at any time after a stroke, and its presence is associated with unfavorable outcomes. This narrative review aims to provide a synopsis of possible pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment modalities for post-stroke depression (PSD). Several studies have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors in treating the symptoms of this clinical condition. The treatment of PSD has been recently enhanced by innovative approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, virtual reality, telehealth, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, and non-conventional therapies, which might improve depression treatment in stroke survivors. Future high-quality randomized controlled trials are necessary to confirm this hypothesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common complication following a stroke, significantly impacting patients' quality of life and mental well-being. Currently, two primary approaches are employed to treat PSD: drug therapy and non-drug therapy. Among these, acupuncture, specifically scalp acupuncture (SA), has gained attention due to its cost-effectiveness and broad social benefits. SA is a precise and direct form of acupuncture that has been utilized in the treatment of PSD. Although several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have demonstrated the efficacy of SA in treating PSD, there is a lack of comprehensive systematic reviews. Given the limitations of existing evidence, we conducted a systematic evaluation to assess the effectiveness of SA in combination with conventional therapy (CT) for intervening in PSD. METHODS We systematically searched five databases for articles published up until May 31, 2023, pertaining to SA treatment of PSD. A team of researchers meticulously screened and assessed these articles to identify the final included studies. After extracting relevant information and outcome indicators from the selected articles, we employed RevMan5.3 software to evaluate their quality and perform statistical analysis. Throughout our research, we strictly adhered to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. RESULTS A total of 11 articles were included, and a meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of SA combined with CT for treating PSD. The results revealed that SA combined with CT can effectively improve the treatment's success rate for PSD and reduce the severity of depressive symptoms measured by the Self-Rating Depression Scale. However, SA combined with CT did not show significant reductions in depressive symptoms assessed by the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, which may be related to the inclusion of high heterogeneity articles. Importantly, the combination treatment did not lead to an increase in adverse reactions among PSD patients. CONCLUSION While the effectiveness of SA combined with CT in treating PSD still requires further validation through rigorous randomized double-blind trials, this study provides a comprehensive collection of studies that meet the criteria for SA combined with CT in PSD treatment. It objectively and systematically evaluated the impact of SA combined with CT on PSD. Consequently, the findings of this study hold certain clinical significance.

Abstract
Acupuncture has been widely used in stroke and post-stroke rehabilitation (PSR), but there is no literature on the bibliometric analysis of acupuncture for stroke. This study aimed to characterize the global publications and analyze the trends of acupuncture for stroke in the past 40 years. We identified 1157 publications from the Web of Science Core Collection. The number of publications grew slowly in the first three decades from 1980 until it started to grow after 2010, with significant growth in 2011-2012 and 2019-2020. China, the USA, and South Korea are the top three countries in this field, and China has formed good internal cooperative relations. Early studies focused on the clinical efficacy of acupuncture for stroke. In the last five years, more emphasis has been placed on the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating sequelae and complications, combined with neuroimaging studies to explore the mechanisms of brain injury repair and neurological recovery. Acupuncture for stroke has a vast research potential, and researchers from different countries/regions and organizations still need to remove academic barriers to enhance communication and collaboration.

Abstract
Stroke is one of the important causes of both disability and death worldwide, which is very common in older adults. Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) is a common secondary damage of stroke, which is the main cause of long-term disability and decreased quality of life in stroke patients, which brings a heavy burden to society and families. Acupuncture, as one of the oldest and widely used worldwide techniques in Chinese medicine, is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an alternative and complementary strategy for improving stroke care. This review comprehensively summarizes literature from the last 25 years, showing that acupuncture can exert strong beneficial effect on PSCI. The mechanisms of acupuncture on PSCI involves anti-neuronal apoptosis, promoting synaptic plasticity, alleviating central and peripheral inflammatory reactions, and regulating brain energy metabolism disorders (including improving cerebral blood flow, glucose utilization and mitochondrial structure and function, etc.), etc. The effects and mechanisms of acupuncture on PSCI reviewed in this study provides scientific and reliable evidence for acupuncture application for PSCI.

Abstract
Background Cognitive impairment is one of the common sequelae after stroke, which not only hinders the recovery of patients but also increases the financial burden on families. In the absence of effective therapeutic measures, acupuncture treatment has been widely used in China to treat post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI), but the specific efficacy is unclear. Therefore, this review aimed to evaluate the true efficacy of acupuncture treatment in patients with PSCI. Methods We searched eight databases [PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), China Science and Technology Journal (VIP) database, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, and Wan fang database] from the inception to May 2022 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to acupuncture treatment combined with cognitive rehabilitation (CR) for PSCI. Two investigators independently used a pre-designed form to extract valid data from eligible RCTs. The risk of bias was assessed through tools provided by the Cochrane Collaboration. The meta-analysis was implemented through Rev Man software (version 5.4). The strength of the evidence obtained was evaluated using GRADE profiler software. Adverse events (AEs) were collected by reading the full text and used to evaluate the safety of acupuncture treatment. Results Thirty-eight studies involving a total of 2,971 participants were included in this meta-analysis. Overall, the RCTs included in this meta-analysis were poor in methodological quality. The combined results showed that acupuncture treatment combined with CR showed significant superiority compared to CR alone in terms of improving cognitive function [Mean Difference (MD) = 3.94, 95% confidence intervals (CI): 3.16-4.72, P < 0.00001 (MMSE); MD = 3.30, 95%CI: 2.53-4.07, P < 0.00001 (MoCA); MD = 9.53, 95%CI: 5.61-13.45, P < 0.00001 (LOTCA)]. Furthermore, the combination of acupuncture treatment and CR significantly improved patients' self-care ability compared to CR alone [MD = 8.66, 95%CI: 5.85-11.47, P < 0.00001 (MBI); MD = 5.24, 95%CI: 3.90-6.57, P < 0.00001 (FIM)]. Meanwhile, subgroup analysis showed that MMSE scores were not sufficiently improved in the comparison of electro-acupuncture combined with CR versus CR alone (MD = 4.07, 95%CI: -0.45-8.60, P = 0.08). However, we also observed that electro-acupuncture combined with CR was superior to the use of CR alone in improving MoCA and MBI scores in patients with PSCI [MD = 2.17, 95%CI: 0.65-3.70, P = 0.005 (MoCA); MD = 1.74, 95%CI: 0.13-3.35, P = 0.03 (MBI)]. There was no significant difference in the occurrence of adverse events (AE) between acupuncture treatment combined with CR and CR alone (P > 0.05). The certainty of the evidence was rated low level because of flaws in the study design and considerable heterogeneity among the included studies. Conclusion This review found that acupuncture treatment combined with CR may have a positive effect on improving cognitive function and self-care ability in PSCI patients. However, our findings should be treated with caution owing to the existence of methodological quality issues. High-quality studies are urgently required to validate our results in the future. Abstract
Background Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common psychiatric complication of mental disorders after stroke. Acupuncture for PSD is effective and has few adverse effects. As a classical complementary and alternative therapy, acupuncture is often used in combination with antidepressants for PSD. However, there is a wide variety of acupuncture therapies, and the efficacy of different acupuncture varies. In this study, a network meta-analysis (NMA) was used to assess the clinical efficacy of different acupuncture combined with antidepressants for the treatment of PSD. Methods A comprehensive search of PubMed, The Cochrane Library, EMbase, Web of Science, CNKI, CBM, VIP, and Wan-Fang databases for published randomized controlled trials of acupuncture combined with antidepressants for the treatment of PSD was conducted. The time frame for the literature search was from the date of database creation to April 30, 2022. The Cochrane risk of bias tool for randomized trials (RoB 2.0) was used to evaluate the bias risk of the included studies. Data analysis was performed by STATA 14.0 software. Results A total of 38 literatures with 2,898 patients involving nine acupuncture therapies were included. NMA results were as follows: moxibustion plus antidepressants had the best efficacy in terms of improving total effective rate. Conventional acupuncture plus antidepressants was the most effective in improving HAMD scores. In terms of improving SDS scores, acupressure plus antidepressants was the most effective. In terms of improving NIHSS scores, moxibustion plus antidepressants showed the best results. Conclusion A comparison of the efficacy indicators of the nine different acupuncture therapies combined showed that moxibustion plus antidepressants, conventional acupuncture plus antidepressants and acupressure plus antidepressants were superior in the treatment of PSD. Based on the shortcomings of the existing studies, this conclusion needs to be validated by additional high-quality randomized controlled trials.

Abstract
Background Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is one of two cognition-impairing diseases. Acupuncture (Acu) is a flexible treatment with few adverse effects and is thus widely used to treat neurological problems. Methods We recruited a total of 60 patients and assigned them to two groups (n = 30 each group). During the study, some participants were excluded by quality control, and a total of 44 subjects (25 Acu and 19 controls) were completed to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture on CSVD cognitive impairment (CSVDCI). The following demographic and clinical variables were compared between the two groups: gender, age, education, smoking, alcohol, Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA), symbol digit modalities test (SDMT), verbal fluency test (VFT), digit span task (DST), Boston naming test (BNT) scores, and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) under the typical band (0.01-0.08 Hz). Mixed effect analysis was utilized to test for differences between the two groups before and after the treatment. Results Following acupuncture treatment, the Acu group scored higher on MoCA, SDMT, VFT, DST, and BNT compared to controls (P < 0.05). The brain regions showing substantially greater ALFF values in the Acu group were the right inferior temporal gyrus, left middle occipital gyrus, left superior occipital gyrus, left insula, bilateral postcentral gyrus, right superior parietal gyrus, right cerebellum, right precuneus, and right precentral gyrus (P < 0.005, no correction). The ALFF values in the right inferior temporal gyrus (P = 0.027), left middle occipital gyrus (P = 0.005), left superior occipital gyrus (P = 0.011), and right superior parietal gyrus (P = 0.043) were positively associated with MoCA. Conclusion We found that acupuncture modulates the functional activity of temporal, occipital, and parietal regions of the brain in CSVDCI patients.

Abstract
(1) Background: The aim of this systematic review focused on analyzing the impact of depression on the functional outcome of the elderly stroke victim and how this disorder affects both the female and the male population. (2) Methods: We conducted a systematic review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The review was registered in PROSPERO (ID 346284). The systematic search for clinical trials was performed in the databases Pubmed, Otseeker, Scopus, Web of Science, Psycinfo, Medline Complete, ScienceDirect, SciELO, and Dialnet. Articles were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, including those dealing with post-stroke depression in adults whose psychological status had changed. Studies that only assessed the psychological state of caregivers were excluded. (3) Results: In total, 609 articles were identified, of which 11 randomized controlled trials were finally included in the review. The results indicate that post-stroke depression influences the recovery of functionality and quality of life. In addition, the need to detect the mood of the adult population after the stroke and to provide individualized treatment according to the characteristics of the person is highlighted. (4) Conclusions: This systematic review shows how early detection of post-stroke depressive symptoms can improve the degree of disability and quality of life of the person, especially in women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Post-stroke anxiety (PSA) remains a challenging medical problem. Integrated rehabilitation involves a combination of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western conventional rehabilitation techniques. Theoretically, integrated rehabilitation is likely to have significant advantages in treating PSA. Nevertheless, the therapeutic effect of integrated rehabilitation needs to be verified based on large-scale trials with sound methodology. Thus, the aim of this trial is to assess the efficacy and safety of integrated rehabilitation on PSA. METHODS The study is a prospective, multicenter, randomized, controlled trial involving 188 PSA patients from four clinical centers in China. Eligible participants will be randomly divided into the integrated rehabilitation group or the standard care group. Participants in the integrated rehabilitation group will receive a combination of TCM and Western conventional rehabilitation methods, including acupuncture, repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation, traditional Chinese herbal medicine, and standard care. The primary outcome will be the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A). The secondary outcomes will include the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scale, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scale, the simplified Fugl-Meyer Assessment of motor function (FMA) scale, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Outcome measurements will be performed at baseline, at the end of the 4-week treatment and the 8-week follow-up. CONCLUSION Results of this trial will ascertain the efficacy and safety of integrated rehabilitation on PSA, thereby providing evidence regarding integrated rehabilitation strategies for treating PSA. It will also promote up-to-date evidence for patients, clinicians, and policy-makers. TRIAL REGISTRATION ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05147077.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tibetan medicine Ruyi Zhenbao Pills (RZPs) in the treatment of patients with motor and sensory dysfunction after stroke. METHODS A total of 120 convalescent stroke patients hospitalized in the Rehabilitation Department of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine from June 2017 to December 2019 were enrolled in this trial. Patients were assigned to control (60 cases) and research (60 cases) groups by computer random assignment. All patients received internal treatment and modern rehabilitation training. On this basis, the research group was given oral RZPs for 4 weeks, while the control group was given oral placebo. The primary outcome was motor function of the affected side evaluated by simplified Fugl-Meyer Motion Assessment Scale (FMA-M). The secondary outcomes included sensory function, activity of daily living (ADL), quality of life, balance function, and pain, which were assessed by Fugl-Meyer Sensory Assessment Scale (FMA-S), Modified Barthel Index (MBI), Special Scale of the Quality of Life (SS-QOL), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), respectively. All of the assessments were performed before treatment, and 4 and 8 weeks after treatment. Vital signs, liver and kidney functions, routine blood test, blood coagulation profile, and routine urinalysis of patients were monitored. RESULTS After 4-week treatment, the FMA-M, BBS and FMA-S scores in the research group significantly increased compared with the control group (P<0.05). At 8-week follow-up, the BBS and MBI scores in the research group were higher than the control group (P<0.05). There was no statistical difference between the 2 groups in the SS-QOL and VAS scores at 4 and 8 weeks (P>0.05). Moreover, after treatment, there was no significant difference in vital signs, liver and kidney functions, blood coagulation function, blood routine and urinalysis between the 2 groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSION RZPs improved limb motor, balance, and sensory functions of stroke patients during recovery period with good safety. (Trial registration No. NCT04029701).
