Abstract
This study focuses on evaluating the intake of selected essential minerals in the Cuban population's diet and their associated health implications. Using 24-hour recall surveys and a Total Diet Study approach, 17 food groups were established from a total of 107 foods collected from the three regions of the Cuban territory. The minerals in the 17 groups were quantified by digesting the foods through dry ashing, and the analysis was carried out using the flame atomic absorption spectroscopy method (for Ca, Mg, K, Na, Cu, Fe and Zn) and spectrophotometric method (for P). The results revealed significant variations in mineral intake among the food groups, with dairy products, meats, legumes, and condiments being the primary sources of these nutrients. Average calcium and magnesium intakes (687 and 230 mg/day) were below the recommended 1000 mg/day and 300-350 mg/day, respectively. However, phosphorus consumption was excessive, averaging 1220 mg/day, which could pose health risks, especially with inadequate calcium intake (molar ratio of 0.44:1). Despite sufficient iron intake (16.8 mg/day), sodium consumption was high (3242 mg/day), exceeding the safe limit of 2000 mg/day, and may contribute to increased cardiovascular disease risk. The assessment of the risks associated with the individual intake of each mineral indicated that the Cuban population is not currently at significant risk. However, the synergistic effect of these minerals resulted in a Total Target Hazard Quotient of 1.23, indicating potential cause for concern. In conclusion, improving the Cuban diet requires policies that ensure balanced mineral intake and reduce health risks.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The SI.Menu study offers the latest data on the dietary intake of Slovenian adolescents aged 10 to 17. The purpose of this study is to comprehensively assess their dietary intake (energy and nutrients) and compare their food intakes with dietary recommendations for healthy and sustainable diets. METHODS The cross-sectional epidemiological dietary study SI.Menu (March 2017-April 2018) was conducted on a representative sample of Slovenian adolescents aged 10 to 17 years (n = 468) (230 males and 238 females). Data on dietary intake were gathered through two non-consecutive 24 h recalls, in line with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) EU Menu methodology. The repeated 24 h Dietary Recall (HDR) and Food Propensity Questionnaire (FPQ) data were combined to determine the usual intakes of nutrients and food groups, using the Multiple Source Method (MSM) program. RESULTS Adolescents' diets significantly deviate from dietary recommendations, lacking vegetables, milk and dairy products, nuts and seeds, legumes, and water, while containing excessive meat (especially red meat) and high-sugar foods. This results in insufficient intake of dietary fibre, and nutrients such as vitamin D, folate, and calcium. CONCLUSIONS The dietary intake of Slovenian adolescents does not meet healthy and sustainable diet recommendations. This study provides an important insight into the dietary habits of Slovenian adolescents that could be useful for future public health strategies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Acromegaly is associated with increased vertebral fracture (VFs) risk not correlated to bone mineral density (BMD). Trabecular bone score (TBS), related to bone microarchitecture, provides information on bone strength. This cross-sectional study considered the usefulness of TBS and BMD to assess bone status in long-term controlled acromegalic patients. DESIGN, PATIENTS, MEASUREMENTS 26 acromegaly patients (14 female and 12 males) were included in the study. A further 117 subjects were recruited as controls (58 females and 57 males). BMD was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), TBS was obtained applying Medimaps software 2.0. Biochemical parameters were determined by standardized techniques. RESULTS 73% of patients with acromegaly exhibited normal lumbar spine (LS) BMD. TBS was normal in 38% of acromegalic patients and partially degraded or degraded in 31% of patients, respectively. No differences were found in LS BMD between acromegalic patients and controls. TBS values were significantly lower in patients with acromegaly (1.27 ± 0.13 vs. 1.35 ± 0.17, p = .01). Postsurgical remission was associated with higher TBS values (1.35 ± 0.10 vs. 1.23 ± 0.13, p = .02) and pituitary radiotherapy treatment with lower TBS values (1.18 ± 0.12 vs. 1.31 ± 0.12, p = .004). On multivariate analysis, age, BMI and LS BMD were predictors of TBS changes in patients with acromegaly (p < .05). CONCLUSIONS Patients with long-term controlled acromegaly can exhibit deterioration of bone microstructure measured with TBS, despite BMD measurement not showing bone loss. Our study suggests that TBS is useful for monitoring the bone status changes in acromegalic patients.

Abstract
The problem of dietary deficiency of several essential elements among different stages of life is still observed. The consumption of whole grains (among others unprocessed rice) is recommended as a part of a healthy diet. This research aimed to determine the content of selected macro- and microelements in rice and rice products to verify whether the tested products could be regarded as a source of selected minerals in the diet of the adult European population. METHODS A total of 99 samples from 12 groups of rice products (basmati, black, brown, parboiled, red, wild, white rice and expanded rice, rice flakes, flour, pasta, and waffles) were obtained. The atomic absorption spectrometry method (AAS) was used to determine the content of Ca, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Se and Zn in the study material. RESULTS The average measured contents of Ca, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Se and Zn were as follows: 226.3 ± 160.6 mg/kg, 3.6 ± 2.8 mg/kg, 9.4 ± 7.0 mg/kg, 618.0 ± 498.4 mg/kg, 16.7 ± 10.0 mg/kg, 242.9 ± 140.4 µg/kg and 19.5 ± 15.0 mg/kg, respectively. Statistical analyses confirmed the differences in the levels of the studied elements between the subgroups of processed and unprocessed products. Considering the tolerable upper intake level of studied elements, the tested products could be regarded as safe to consume. CONCLUSION All tested products can be recommended as a source of Cu, Mn, and Se, while a majority of studied products can be considered a source of Mg and Zn in the diet of the adult European population.
