Abstract
The application of organic additives is an efficient strategy to promote the vermicomposting of organic wastes. This study investigated the changes in earthworm growth, nutrients, enzyme activities, microbial composition, and seedling growth during 60 days of vermicomposting of white wine distillers' grains (WWDG) mixed (50:50, w/w) with green waste (GW), green waste compost (GWC), or cow dung (CD). Our data showed that GW, GWC, and CD addition significantly enhanced the survival rate (73.33%-89.17%), growth, and reproduction of earthworms compared to the control treatment. The degradation rate of TOC, the increasing rate of nutriments (total N, total P, total K, available P, available K, humic acid, NH4+, NO3-), and the germination index were significantly higher in the additive treatments than in the control treatment. Dehydrogenase, phosphatases, and urease activities were significantly elevated in the vermicompost amended with additives. The additives remarkably stimulated bacteria, such as Streptomyces, Steroidobacter, Bacillus, Luteibacter, and Rhodanobacter, etc., which were closely related to the biocontrol of phytopathogens and the decomposing recalcitrant substances. Moreover, additives significantly promoted the generation and growth parameters of tomato and lettuce seedlings when compared with the control. In summary, these results indicated that all three additives facilitated the vermicomposting of WWDG and improved the compost quality by enhancing earthworm and enzyme activities as well as altering compost bacterial community, especially when the GWC addition yields the best compost quality and shows strong potential for future application. This study developed a new method for improving WWDG utilization rate and it will promote organic waste recycling in China.

Abstract
Probiotics-induced feed fermentation can improve the composition of microbiota, leading to benefits in pig production. However, the influence of probiotics-driven feed fermentation on pollution reduction is limited. This study aimed to analyze the impact of Weissella-based feed fermentation on the chemical characteristics, changes in microbial abundance, and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Moreover, the possible mechanism and the association among them was also analyzed. First, pigs reared on fermented feed exhibited improved growth performance. The fermentation group showed a significant reduction in emissions of total phosphorus (TP), total carbon (TC), organic matter (OM), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) levels in feces compared to the control group. The fermentation group also showed a significant decrease in the ARGs, especially for the tetX, tetW, tetQ, tetL, tetO, tet32, tet44, ermG, ermF, CfxA2, CfxA3, aph3-III, aadA, and ant9-I, compared to the control group. The primary functional microbiota, characterized by increased levels of Bifidobacterium, Megasphaera, and Mitsuokella, and decreased levels of Methanosphaera, and Ruminiclostridium, displayed both negative and positive correlations with ARGs, TC, TP, OM, Cu, and Zn. Furthermore, a significant association was observed between the alterations in microbiota and ARGs and the lactic acid concentration in the fermented feed. The molecular docking results showed a good fit between lactate dehydrogenase and three antibiotics, particularly tetracycline. In conclusion, these results offer novel targets and strategies to address environmental pollutants associated with pig farming.

Abstract
The classification of Microbispora, a bacterial genus of significant ecological, agricultural, biotechnological, and clinical importance, has traditionally been carried out based on 16S rRNA gene sequences or phenotypic characteristics, which may lead to equivocal conclusions and it is not in line with the current standards. Moreover, some of the recent species descriptions have not been made using whole genome sequences (WGS), or when used, not all the species were included in the analyses. Consequently, some of the taxonomic conclusions drawn are equivocal, and therefore some currently accepted species should be synonymized. In this study, we revised the taxonomy of the genus Microbispora using digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values, and by reconstructing phylogenetic relationships using whole genome sequences. Based on the clear phylogenomic separations and on the sequence divergence values, we propose to elevate Microbispora rosea subsp. rosea and Microbispora rosea subsp. aerata to the species level, and therefore to create Microbispora aerata sp. nov. with JCM 3076T (= DSM 43176T = ATCC 15448T = IFO 14624T = NBRC 14624T = VKM Ac-1507T) as the type strain. Hence, with this proposition, the correct name for Microbispora rosea subsp. rosea is M. rosea. Furthermore, we propose to reclassify M. camponoti as a subspecies within M. bryophytorum. Consequently, we propose the creation of the following two subspecies: Microbispora bryophytorum subsp. bryophytorum subsp. nov. with DSM 46710T (= CGMCC 4.7138T = NEAU TX2-2T) as the type strain, and Microbispora bryophytorum subsp. camponoti subsp. nov., comb. nov. with DSM 2C-HV3T (= DSM 100527T = CGMCC 4.7281T) as the type strain. In addition, we propose to reinstate M. amethystogenes as an independent species and not as a M. rosea synonym, and reclassify "M. cellulosiformans" as a subspecies within M. amethystogenes. Hence, we propose the creation of the following two subspecies: Microbispora amethystogenes subsp. amethystogenes subsp. nov. with NBRC 101907T (= DSM 43164T = JCM 3021T = NRRL B-2637T) as the type strain, and Microbispora amethystogenes subsp. cellulosiformans subsp. nov., comb. nov. with Gxj-6T (= DSM 109712T = CGMCC 4.7605T) as the type strain. Lastly, we propose M. fusca NEAU-HEGS1-5T and "M. tritici" MT50T as later homotypic synonyms of M. triticiradicis NEAU-HRDPA2-9T.

Abstract
This study assessed the impact of nine mixed ferrous sulfates and biochars on electric field-assisted aerobic composting (EAC), focusing on the spectroscopy of dissolved organic matter (DOM) and microbial communities. Adding 1.05% ferrous sulfate and 5.25% biochar to EAC increased the specific ultraviolet absorbances at 254 and 280 nm by 142.3% and 133.9% on day 35, respectively. This ratio accelerated the early response of carboxyl groups (-COOH) and lignin (CꘌC), enhancing the relative abundance of Thermobifida (4.0%) and Thermopolyspora (4.3%). The condition contributed to humus precursor formation on day 5, increasing the maximum fluorescence intensity of the humus-like component by 74.2% compared to the control on day 35. This study is the first to develop a combined and efficient organic and inorganic additive by multiple-variable experimentation for DOM humification. Consequently, it optimizes EAC for solid waste recycling.

Abstract
The disposal of Chinese medicinal herbal residues (CMHRs) derived from Chinese medicine extraction poses a significant environmental challenge. Aerobic composting presents a sustainable treatment method, yet optimizing nutrient conversion remains a critical concern. This study investigated the effect and mechanism of biochar addition on nitrogen and phosphorus transformation to enhance the efficacy and quality of compost products. The findings reveal that incorporating biochar considerably enhanced the process of nutrient conversion. Specifically, biochar addition promoted the retention of bioavailable organic nitrogen and reduced nitrogen loss by 28.1 %. Meanwhile, adding biochar inhibited the conversion of available phosphorus to non-available phosphorus while enhancing its conversion to moderately available phosphorus, thereby preserving phosphorus availability post-composting. Furthermore, the inclusion of biochar altered microbial community structure and fostered organic matter retention and humus formation, ultimately affecting the modification of nitrogen and phosphorus forms. Structural equation modeling revealed that microbial community had a more pronounced impact on bioavailable organic nitrogen, while humic acid exerted a more significant effect on phosphorus availability. This research provides a viable approach and foundation for regulating the levels of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients during composting, serving as a valuable reference for the development of sustainable utilization technologies pertaining to CMHRs.

Abstract
Agroforestry waste and cow manure pollute the environment, of which, agroforestry waste is difficult to degrade. Compost is an effective way to dispose agroforestry waste; however, the low degradation efficiency of lignocellulose in agroforestry waste affects the process of composting humification. This study investigated lignocellulose degradation and composting humification in full-size apple wood and cow manure composting processes by applying different pretreatments (acidic, alkaline, and high-temperature) to apple wood. Simultaneously, physicochemical characterization and metagenome sequencing were combined to analyze the function of carbohydrate-active enzymes database (CAZy). Therefore, microbial communities and functions were linked during the composting process and the lignocellulose degradation mechanism was elaborated. The results showed that the addition of apple wood increased the compost humus (HS) yield, and pretreatment of apple wood enhanced the lignocellulose degradation during composting processes. In addition, pretreatment improved the physicochemical properties, such as temperature, pH, electric conductivity (EC), ammonium nitrogen (NH4+), and nitrate nitrogen (NO3-) in the compost, of which, acid treated apple wood compost (AcAWC) achieved the highest temperature of 58.4 °C, effectively promoting nitrification with NO3- ultimately reaching 0.127 g/kg. In all composts, microbial networks constructed a high proportion of positively correlated connections, and microorganisms promoted the composting process through cooperation. The proportions of glycosyltransferase (GT) and glycoside hydrolase (GH) promoted the separation and degradation of lignocellulose during composting to form HS. Notably, the adverse effects of the alkali-treated apple wood compost on bacteria were greater. AcAWC showed significant correlations between bacterial and fungal communities and both lignin and hemicellulose, and had more biomarkers associated with lignocellulose degradation and humification. The lignin degradation rate was 24.57 % and the HS yield increased by 27.49 %. Therefore, AcAWC has been confirmed to enhance lignocellulose degradation and promote compost humification by altering the properties of the apple wood and establishing a richer microbial community.

The 2 mostly used housing systems in the northeast of Spain, cubicles (CUB) and compost-bedded pack (CBP), entail different manure management techniques; thus, our main objective was to describe the microbiota present in the manure of both systems during 2 distinct climatic situations (winter, mean temperature of 6.2 °C; and summer, mean temperature of 36.4 °C). The secondary aim was to correlate these microbiological profiles with literature findings on the emission of certain well-known pollutant gases from manure. CBP showed to have higher alpha biodiversity as well as presenting a remarkable clustering by season but showed lower network complexity than CUB. Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio was found superior in CUB, which also presented a significantly higher abundance of methanogenic genera belonging to Euryarchaeota phylum, such as Methanobrevibacter, Methanosaeta or Methanosarcina. On the other hand, CBP manure presented a significant presence of Corynebacterium, Pseudomonas, or Truepera, among other genera, which activity has been linked to nitrogen (N) transformation pathways in manure. The season also had a relevant role to play in the fluctuation of these populations within each housing system under study. These results show how microbial populations change when manure is differently managed, and how these variations can be related to the synthesis of certain pollutant gases in housing systems.

Abstract
The nitrobenzene (NB) reduction and denitrification performance of the immobilized biofilm (I-BF) reactors based on 9,10-anthraquinone-2-sulfonyl chloride (ASC) modified polyurethane foam (PUF-ASC) carriers were investigated. Experiments demonstrated that the quinone mediators enhanced NB reduction and denitrification performance. The NB reduction rates increased by 1.46, while the NO3--N removal rates increased by 1.55 times in the PUF-0.1ASC system. The quinone mediators promote extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) secretion. Electrochemical tests indicated that quinone mediators enhanced the electron transfer of biofilm systems. NADH generation was accelerated and microbial electron transport system activity (ETSA) was promoted. The abundance of genera with electrochemical activity, NB degradation and denitrification ability (Pseudomonas sp., Diaphorobate sp., and Acinetobacter sp.) increased. Metabolic pathways relating to NO3--N and NB reduction were uploaded. In conclusion, electron acquisition by NO3--N and NB was facilitated, bacterial community structure and metabolic pathways were affected by the quinone mediators.

Abstract
The effects of the co-addition of fungal agents and biochar on physicochemical properties, odor emissions, microbial community structure, and metabolic functions were investigated during the in-situ treatment of food waste. The combined addition of fungal agents and biochar decreased cumulative NH3, H2S, and VOCs emissions by 69.37%, 67.50%, and 52.02%, respectively. The predominant phyla throughout the process were Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Cyanobacteria, and Proteobacteria. Combined treatment significantly impacted the conversion and release of nitrogen from the perspective of the variation of nitrogen content between different forms. FAPROTAX analysis revealed that the combined application of fungal agents and biochar could effectively inhibit nitrite ammonification and reduce the emission of odorous gases. This work aims to clarify the combined effect of fungal agents and biochar on odor emission and provide a theoretical basis for developing an environmentally friendly in-situ efficient biological deodorization (IEBD) technology.

Abstract
Organic amendment, and especially the use of composts, is a well-accepted sustainable agricultural practice. Compost increases soil carbon and microbial biomass, changes enzymatic activity, and enriches soil carbon and nitrogen stocks. However, relatively little is known about the immediate and long-term temporal dynamics of agricultural soil microbial communities following repeated compost applications. Our study was conducted at two field sites: Newe Ya'ar (NY, Mediterranean climate) and Gilat (G, semi-arid climate), both managed organically over 4 years under either conventional fertilization (0, zero compost) or three levels of compost amendment (20, 40 and 60 m3/ha or 2, 4, 6 L/m2). Microbial community dynamics in the soils was examined by high- and low-time-resolution analyses. Annual community composition in compost-amended soils was significantly affected by compost amendment levels in G (first, second and third years) and in NY (third year). Repeated sampling at high resolution (9-10 times over 1 year) showed that at both sites, compost application initially induced a strong shift in microbial communities, lasting for up to 1 month, followed by a milder response. Compost application significantly elevated alpha diversity at both sites, but differed in the compost-dose correlation effect. We demonstrate higher abundance of taxa putatively involved in organic decomposition and characterized compost-related indicator taxa and a compost-derived core microbiome at both sites. Overall, this study describes temporal changes in the ecology of soil microbiomes in response to compost vs. conventional fertilization.

Abstract
This study investigates the impact of different agro-industrial organic wastes (i.e., sugarcane filter cake, poultry litter, and chicken manure) on the bacterial community and their relationship with physicochemical attributes during composting. Integrative analysis was performed by combining high-throughput sequencing and environmental data to decipher changes in the waste microbiome. The results revealed that animal-derived compost stabilized more carbon and mineralized a more organic nitrogen than vegetable-derived compost. Composting enhanced bacterial diversity and turned the bacterial community structure similar among all wastes, reducing Firmicutes abundance in animal-derived wastes. Potential biomarkers indicating compost maturation were Proteobacteria and Bacteroidota phyla, Chryseolinea genus and Rhizobiales order. The waste source influenced the final physicochemical attributes, whereas composting enhanced the complexity of the microbial community in the order of poultry litter > filter cake > chicken manure. Therefore, composted wastes, mainly the animal-derived ones, seem to present more sustainable attributes for agricultural use, despite their losses of C, N, and S.

Abstract
Exploring the ecological function of potential core bacteria for high-efficiency composting can provide a fundamental understanding of the role of composting bacterial communities. Mushroom residue and kitchen garbage at different ratios (N1: 1/1, N2: 1/2) of dry weight were tested to investigate the key ecological role of the core bacteria responsible for producing mature compost. N1 had a peak temperature of 75.0 °C which was higher than N2 (68.3 °C). Other key composting parameters (carbon to nitrogen ratio (C/N) and germination index (GI)) also indicated that N1 achieved higher compost maturity. Rice seedlings experiments also further validated this conclusion. Putative key bacterial taxa (Thermobifida, Luteimonasd, Bacillus, etc.) were positively associated with the GI, indicating a substantial contribution to composting maturity. Co-occurrence network analysis revealed the ecological function of potentially beneficial core bacteria promoted cooperation among the bacterial community. The putative core bacteria in N1 may affect composting efficiency. Our findings reveal the mechanism of potential core bacteria throughout the compost maturity phases.

Abstract
Accelerating the humification of organic solid waste is one of the most important issues in composting. This present study aims to study and compare the humification process of different rich-N sources (chicken manure, cattle manure, and urea) addition during the composting of mushroom residues, from macro physicochemical properties to micro humic molecular structure evolution process. The physicochemical elements and humic components were determined for evaluating the compost quality and humification degree as composting proceed. The coupled analysis of excitation-emission matrix with parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC) and two-dimensional correlation with Fourier transform infrared spectrum (2D-FTIR-COS) were used to characterize the functional molecular structure evolution of dissolved organic matter during humification process. The results indicated that the rank order for humification level were the treatments of chicken manure (HM), urea (UM), cattle manure (CM), and single mushroom residue treatment (CK), with their humification index of 22.18%, 22.05%, 18.47%, and 16.52%, respectively. Humic substance, humic acid, and fulvic acid were obtained the highest in HM treatment with contents of 35.41 ± 0.86%, 23.32 ± 1.57%, and 10.97 ± 0.52%, respectively. The rich-N source addition enhanced the degradation of protein-like and polysaccharides-like substances in dissolved organic matter, thus accelerating the humification process of mushroom residues. The key structure evolution of dissolved organic matter in the HM treatment, in which the CO and CC stretching of quinone, amide, or ketone, and the C-O stretching of polysaccharides may be responsible for the faster formation of humus compared to the other nitrogen treatments. In this study, redundancy analysis indicated that the total nitrogen (TN) and nitrate nitrogen (NO3--N) may be the potential indicators for determining the humification level as composting proceed. The result provides significant insight into the humification mechanism of mushroom residue under different types of nitrogen sources at the molecular level, and will be reference for improving the composting technique in practical field.

Sediment bacterial communities play a critical role in biogeochemical cycling in alpine lake ecosystems. However, little is known about the sediment microbial communities in these lakes. In this study, the bacterial community composition (BCC) and their relationships with environmental factors of the sediment in Sayram Lake, the largest alpine and cold-water inland lake, China was analyzed using Illumina MiSeq sequencing. In total, we obtained 618,271 high quality sequences. The results showed that the bacterial communities with 30 phyla and 546 genera, were spread out among the 5 furface sediment samples, respectively. The communities were dominated by Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Planctomycetes, Gemmatimonadetes, Chloroflexi, Actinobacteria, Verrucomicrobia and Bacteroidetes, accounting for 48.15 ± 8.10%, 11.23 ± 3.10%, 8.42 ± 2.15%, 8.37 ± 2.26%, 7.40 ± 3.05%, 5.62 ± 1.25%, 4.18 ± 2.12% and 2.24 ± 1.10% of the total reads, respectively. At the genus level, the communities were dominated by Aquabacterium, Pseudomonas, Woeseia, MND1, Ignavibacterium and Truepera, accounting for 7.89% ± 8.24%, 2.32% ± 1.05%, 2.14% ± 0.94%, 2% ± 1.22%, 0.94% ± 0.14% and 0.80% ± 0.14% of the total reads, respectively. Statistical analyses showed the similarity of the sediment bacterial communities at our field sites was considerably low, far below 35%, and total organic carbon (TOC) was the dominant environmental factor affecting the spatial changes of BCC in the sediment. Thus, this study greatly improving our understanding of the microbial ecology of alpine lake in the arid and semi-arid ecosystems today so seriously threatened.

Abstract
This study evaluated the compostability of rice straw as the main feedstock (75 % in dry weight), supplemented with three different nitrogen-rich wastes, namely food waste (FW), dairy manure (DM), and sewage sludge (SS). Organic matter (OM) degradation, maturity and fertility of the end-product, and bacterial community structure during the composting processes were compared. All composting processes generated mature end-product within 51 days. Notably, FW addition was more effective to accelerate rice straw OM degradation and significantly improved end-product fertility with a high yield of Chinese cabbage. The succession of the bacterial community was accelerated with FW supplementation. Genera Geobacillus, Chryseolinea, and Blastocatella were significantly enriched during the composting of rice straw with FW supplementation. Finally, temperature, total nitrogen, moisture, pH, and total carbon were the key factors affecting microorganisms. This study provides a promising alternative method to enhance the disposal of larger amounts of rice straw in a shorter time.

Abstract
Global mushroom production is growing rapidly, raising concerns about polluting effects of spent mushroom substrate (SMS) and interest in uses in composts. In this study, SMS composting trials and high-throughput sequencing were carried out to investigate to better understand how the structure, co-occurrence patterns, and functioning of bacterial and fungal communities vary through compost time and across environmental conditions. The results suggested that both bacterial and fungal microbiota displayed significant variation in community composition across different composting stages. Enzyme activity levels showed both directional and fluctuating changes during composting, and the activity dynamics of carboxymethyl cellulase, polyphenol oxidase, laccase, and catalase correlated significantly with the succession of microbial community composition. The co-occurrence networks are "small-world" and modularized and the topological properties of each subnetwork were significantly influenced by the environmental factors. Finally, seed germination and seedling experiments were performed to verify the biosafety and effectiveness of the final composting products.
