Abstract
The study of quorum sensing (QS) has gained critical importance, offering insights into bacterial and microorganism communication. QS, regulated by autoinducers, synchronizes collective bacterial behaviors across diverse chemical signals and target genes. This review highlights innovative approaches to regulating QS, emphasizing the potential of quorum quenching and QS inhibitors to mitigate bacterial pathogenicity. These strategies have shown promise in aquaculture and plant resistance, disrupting QS pathways to combat infections. QS also provides opportunities for developing biosensors for early disease detection and preventing biofilm formation, which is critical to overcoming antimicrobial resistance. The applications of QS extend to cancer therapy, with targeted drug delivery systems utilizing QS mechanisms. Advancements in QS regulation, such as the use of nanomaterials, hydrogels, and microplastics, provide novel methods to modulate QS systems. This review explores the latest developments in QS, recognizing its significance in controlling bacterial behavior and its broad impacts on human health and disease management. Integrating these insights into therapeutic strategies and diagnostics represents a pivotal opportunity for medical progress.

Abstract
This article reviews the scientific literature discussing the microbial interactions between water microbiota, live food microbiota, fish larvae immune system and gut microbiota, and biofilm microbial communities in rearing systems for marine fish larvae. Fish gut microbiota is the first line of defense against opportunistic pathogens, and marine fish larvae are vulnerable to high mortalities during the first weeks after hatching. The bacterial colonization of fish larvae is a dynamic process influenced by environmental and host-related factors. The bacteria transferred to larvae from the eggs can influence the composition of the gut microbiota in the early stages of fish. Fish larvae ingest free-living microorganisms present in the water, as marine fish larvae drink water for osmoregulation. In marine aquaculture systems, the conventional feeding-rearing protocol consists of zooplankton (rotifers, Artemia, and copepods). These live food organisms are filter-feeders. Once transferred to a new environment, they quickly adopt the microflora of the surrounding water. So, the water microbiota is similar to the microbiota of the live food at the time of ingestion of live food by the larvae. In aquaculture rearing systems, bacterial biofilms may harbor opportunistic pathogenic bacteria and serve as a reservoir for those microbes, which may colonize the water column. The methods applied for the study of fish larvae microbiota were reviewed.

Abstract
Cuticle proteins (CPs) are the vital components of the cuticle and chitin lining covering the digestive tract of crustaceans. In this study, four new CP genes (designated as EsCP3, EsCP4, EsCP5, and EsCP8) were initially cloned and identified from the Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis. EsCP3/4/5/8 included 375, 411, 381, and 570 bp open reading frame encoding 124, 136, 126, and 189 amino acid proteins, respectively. Except for EsCP8, EsCP3/4/5 all contained a Chitin_bind_4 domain. EsCP3/4/5/8 were clustered into different groups in the phylogenetic tree. Quantitative real-time PCR results indicated that four EsCP genes have different patterns of tissue distribution. Changes in the expression levels of these four EsCP genes were observed in the intestine of crabs under Vibrio parahaemolyticus challenge. RNA interference assay showed that the knockdown of EsCPs in the intestine could inhibit the expression of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), including crustins and anti-lipopolysaccharide factors. In addition, the knockdown of EsRelish in the intestine decreased the expression levels of these four EsCP genes. These results indicated that EsCPs were involved in regulating the expression of AMPs, and EsCPs were regulated by EsRelish.

Abstract
Understanding how environmental variables influence biofilm formation becomes relevant for managing Vibrio biofilm-related infections in shrimp production. Therefore, we evaluated the impact of temperature, time, and initial inoculum in the biofilm development of these two Vibrio species using a multifactorial experimental design. Planktonic growth inhibition and inhibition/eradication of Vibrio biofilms, more exactly V. parahaemolyticus (VP87 and VP275) and V. cholerae (VC112) isolated from shrimp farms were evaluated by Eucalyptus and Guava aqueous leaf extracts and compared to tetracycline and ceftriaxone. Preliminary results showed that the best growth conditions of biofilm development for V. parahaemolyticus were 24 h and 24°C (p <0.001), while V. cholerae biofilms were 72 h and 30°C (p <0.001). Multivariate linear regression ANOVA was applied using colony-forming unit (CFU) counting assays as a reference, and R-squared values were applied as goodness-of-fit measurements for biofilm analysis. Then, both plant extracts were analyzed with HPLC using double online detection by diode array detector (DAD) and mass spectrometry (MS) for the evaluation of their chemical composition, where the main identified compounds for Eucalyptus extract were cypellogin A, cypellogin B, and cypellocarpin C, while guavinoside A, B, and C compounds were the main compounds for Guava extract. For planktonic growth inhibition, Eucalyptus extract showed its maximum effect at 200 μg/mL with an inhibition of 75% (p < 0.0001) against all Vibrio strains, while Guava extract exhibited its maximum inhibition at 1600 μg/mL with an inhibition of 70% (p < 0.0001). Both biofilm inhibition and eradication assays were performed by the two conditions (24 h at 24°C and 72 h at 30°C) on Vibrio strains according to desirability analysis. Regarding 24 h at 24°C, differences were observed in the CFU counting between antibiotics and plant extracts, where both plant extracts demonstrated a higher reduction of viable cells when compared with both antibiotics at 8x, 16x, and 32x MIC values (Eucalyptus extract: 1600, 3200, and 6400 μg/mL; while Guava extract: 12800, 25600, and 52000 μg/mL). Concerning 72 h at 30°C, results showed a less notorious biomass inhibition by Guava leaf extract and tetracycline. However, Eucalyptus extract significantly reduced the total number of viable cells within Vibrio biofilms from 2x to 32x MIC values (400-6400 μg/mL) when compared to the same MIC values of ceftriaxone (5-80 μg/mL), which was not able to reduce viable cells. Eucalyptus extract demonstrated similar results at both growth conditions, showing an average inhibition of approximately 80% at 400 μg/mL concentration for all Vibrio isolates (p < 0.0001). Moreover, eradication biofilm assays demonstrated significant eradication against all Vibrio strains at both growth conditions, but biofilm eradication values were substantially lower. Both extract plants demonstrated a higher reduction of viable cells when compared with both antibiotics at 8x, 16x, and 32x MIC values at both growth sets, where Eucalyptus extract at 800 μg/mL reduced 70% of biomass and 90% of viable cells for all Vibrio strains (p < 0.0001). Overall results suggested a viable alternative against vibriosis in the shrimp industry in Ecuador.

Abstract
The aquaculture industry requires green solutions to solve several environmental challenges, including adequate wastewater remediation and natural drug applications to treat bacteria- and virus-related diseases. This study investigated the feasibility of cultivating the dinoflagellate Durusdinium glynnii in aquaculture wastewater from shrimp rearing in a synbiotic system (AWW-SS), with different dilutions of f/2 medium (FM). Interestingly, D. glynnii demonstrated enhanced growth in all AWW-SS treatments compared to the control (FM). The highest growth rates were achieved at AWW-SS:FM dilutions of 75:25 and 50:50. The removal of total nitrogen and total phosphorus reached 50.1 and 71.7%, respectively, of the crude AWW-SS. Biomass extracts of D. glynnii grown with AWW-SS were able to inhibit the growth of the bacteria Vibrio parahaemolyticus (inhibition zone of 10.0 ± 1.7 mm) and V. vulnificus (inhibition zone of 11.7 ± 1.5 mm). The presented results demonstrate that the dinoflagellate D. glynnii is a potential candidate for the development of circularity for sustainable aquaculture production, particularly by producing anti-Vibrio compounds at a near-zero cost.

Abstract
As one of the main components of marine pollution, microplastics (MPs) inevitably enter the mussel aquaculture environment. At the same time, pathogenic bacteria, especially pathogens such as Vibrio, can cause illness outbreaks, leading to large-scale death of mussels. The potential harm of MPs and pathogenic bacteria to bivalve remains unclear. This study designed two experiments (1) mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) were exposed to 100 particles/L or 1,000 particles/L polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA, 17.01 ± 6.74 μm) MPs and 1 × 107 CFU/mL Vibrio parahaemolyticus at the same time (14 days), and (2) mussels were exposed to 100 particles/L or 1,000 particles/L MPs for a long time (30 days) and then exposed to 1 × 107 CFU/mL V. parahaemolyticus to explore the effects of these two stresses on the mussel immune system. The results showed that after the combined exposure of V. parahaemolyticus and MPs, the lysosomal membrane stability of hemocytes decreased, lysozyme activity was inhibited, and hemocytes were induced to produce more lectins and defensins to fight pathogenic invasion. Long-term exposure to MPs caused a large amount of energy consumption in mussels, inhibited most of the functions of humoral immunity, increased the risk of mussel infection with pathogenic bacteria, and negatively affected mussel condition factor, the number of hemocytes, and the number of byssuses. Mussels may allocate more energy to deal with MPs and pathogenic bacterial infections rather than for growth. Above all, MPs exposure can affect mussel immune function or reduce its stress resistance, which in turn has an impact on mollusk farming.

Abstract
Vibrio (Aliivibrio) fischeri's initial rise to fame derived from its alluring production of blue-green light. Subsequent studies to probe the mechanisms underlying this bioluminescence helped the field discover the phenomenon now known as quorum sensing. Orthologs of quorum-sensing regulators (i.e., LuxR and LuxI) originally identified in V. fischeri were subsequently uncovered in a plethora of bacterial species, and analogous pathways were found in yet others. Over the past three decades, the study of this microbe has greatly expanded to probe the unique role of V. fischeri as the exclusive symbiont of the light organ of the Hawaiian bobtail squid, Euprymna scolopes. Buoyed by this optically amenable host and by persistent and insightful researchers who have applied novel and cross-disciplinary approaches, V. fischeri has developed into a robust model for microbe-host associations. It has contributed to our understanding of how bacteria experience and respond to specific, often fluxing environmental conditions and the mechanisms by which bacteria impact the development of their host. It has also deepened our understanding of numerous microbial processes such as motility and chemotaxis, biofilm formation and dispersal, and bacterial competition, and of the relevance of specific bacterial genes in the context of colonizing an animal host. Parallels in these processes between this symbiont and bacteria studied as pathogens are readily apparent, demonstrating functional conservation across diverse associations and permitting a reinterpretation of "pathogenesis." Collectively, these advances built a foundation for microbiome studies and have positioned V. fischeri to continue to expand the frontiers of our understanding of the microbial world inside animals.

Abstract
To investigate the ability of Vibrio sp. V33 supplementation on the growth performance, innate immunity, intestinal microbiota, and disease resistance of the juvenile sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus, a feeding experiment was conducted. Our results revealed that dietary Vibrio sp. V33 could significantly enhanced sea cucumber growth rate, and the immune parameters including total coelomocytes counts (TCC), phagocytosis, respiratory burst, immune-related enzyme activities (acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and nitric oxide synthetase) were all markedly improved in coelomocytes of sea cucumbers fed with V33 (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the composition of the bacterial community in the intestinal contents of the sea cucumber was surveyed by 16S rRNA sequencing. Beta diversity analysis indicated that the bacterial compositions of sea cucumbers were significantly different between V33 and Control groups. At the phylum level, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, and Bacteroidetes were the most prevalent phyla in sea cucumber gut microbiota. The abundance of Firmicutes (20.58%), Bacteroidetes (9.77%), and Verrucomicrobia (3.04%) were significantly higher in V33 group when compared with Control. Moreover, genus Mycobacterium was markedly decreased to 0.5% after V33 feeding, while the abundance of genus Rhodococcus was significantly increased by 6.9-fold (P < 0.01) under the same condition, indicating V33 diet might promotes the colonization of beneficial bacteria in the gut of sea cucumber. After Vibrio splendidus challenge, the survival rate of juvenile sea cucumbers fed with V33 diet was significantly higher than that fed with Control diet. All our current results suggested that the Vibrio sp. V33 could used as a probiotic for healthier production of sea cucumbers in aquaculture.

Abstract
Zingiber officinale, Curcuma longa, and Momordica charantia are medicinal plants that are commonly used in the form of herbal tea, which is formulated to strengthen the immune system, especially against COVID-19 infection. Excellent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunostimulatory properties have been reported for their bioactive compounds, which have been shown to aid in stimulating immune systems as well as lowering the risk of severe COVID-19 such as lung injury. Yet, no bibliometric study on the subject is available. Hence, the purpose of this study is to quantitatively examine the existing articles related to the therapeutic potential of these three herbs, as well as their mechanisms of action in combating the SARS-CoV-2 virus. A total of 121 papers were retrieved from Scopus database up to 14th March 2023. The bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer software. Based on the literature search, Z. officinale was the most researched plant. India appeared as the most prolific country, with the highest number of articles contributed by two authors from India (Rathi, R. and Gayatri Devi, R.). In terms of keywords, the plants were associated with immune modulation, management of symptoms, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral activities. Several important bioactive compounds were responsible for these effects such as gingerol, paradol, shogaol, curcumin, calebin A, momordicoside, karaviloside and cucurbitadienol. These compounds were hypothesized to prevent and cure COVID-19 by regulating inflammatory response, downregulating oxidative stress and modulating immunostimulatory activity. This review paper therefore supports the potential of Z. officinale, C. longa, and M. charantia to be formulated as a herbal blend for treating and preventing COVID-19 infection.

Abstract
Climate-induced stressors, such as changes in temperature, salinity, and pH, contribute to the emergence of infectious diseases. These changes alter geographical constraint, resulting in increased Vibrio spread, exposure, and infection rates, thus facilitating greater Vibrio-human interactions. Multiple efforts have been developed to predict Vibrio exposure and raise awareness of health risks, but most models only use temperature and salinity as prediction factors. This study aimed to better understand the potential effects of temperature and pH on V. vulnificus and V. parahaemolyticus planktonic and biofilm growth. Vibrio strains were grown in triplicate at 25°, 30°, and 37°C in 96 well plates containing Modified Seawater Yeast Extract modified with CaCl2 at pH's ranging from 5 to 9.6. AMiGA software was used to model growth curves using Gaussian process regression. The effects of temperature and pH were evaluated using randomized complete block analysis of variance, and the growth rates of V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus were modeled using the interpolation fit on the MatLab Curve Fitting Toolbox. Different optimal conditions involving temperature and pH were observed for planktonic and biofilm Vibrio growth within- and between-species. This study showed that temperature and pH factors significantly affect Vibrio planktonic growth rates and V. parahaemolyticus biofilm formation. Therefore, pH effects must be added to the Vibrio growth modeling efforts to better predict Vibrio risk in estuarine and coastal zones that can potentially experience the cooccurrence of Vibrio and harmful algal bloom outbreak events.

Abstract
The effect of structure of gut microbes on the health of host has attracted increasing attention. Sea bass Lateolabrax japonicus is an important farmed fish in China. The relationship of the dynamic changes of intestinal bacterial communities in L. japonicus and the cultural water environment is very important for healthy culture. Here, the diversity and abundance of the gut microbial communities of L. japonicus were evaluated during the culture using 16S rRNA Illumina sequencing. Both the opportunistic pathogens Aeromonas (1.68%), Vibrio (1.59%), and Acinetobacter (1.22%); and the potential probiotics Lactobacillus (2.27%), Bacillus (1.16%), and Lactococcus (0.37%) were distributed in the gut of L. japonicus. The increasing concentration of nitrogen of water environments with the increase of culture time significantly correlated with shifts in the microbial community structure: 40.04% of gut microbial changes due to nitrogen concentration. Higher concentrations of nitrogen showed a significantly negative correlation with intestinal probiotics in L. japonicus. The results indicate that the abundance of intestinal bacteria of L. japonicus is mainly driven by the changes of environmental factors (e.g., nitrogen), and it's very important that the linking environmental parameters with bacterial data of guts could be used as an early warning indicator in L. japonicus heath culture.

Abstract
Phage Tail Like bacteriocins (PTLBs) has been an area of interest in the last couple of years owing to their varied application against multi-drug resistant (MDR), anti-microbial resistant (AMR) pathogens and their evolutionary link with the dsDNA virus and bacteriophages. PTLBs are defective phages derived from Myoviridae and Siphoviridae phages, PTLBs are distinguished into R-type (Rigid type) characterized by a non-flexible contractile nanotube resembling Myoviridae phage contractile tails, and F-type (Flexible type) with a flexible non-contractile rod-like structure similar to Siphoviridae phages. In this review, we have discussed the structural association, mechanism, and characterization of PTLBs. Moreover, we have elucidated the symbiotic biological function and application of PTLBs against MDR and XDR pathogens and highlighted the evolutionary role of PTLBs. The difficulties that must be overcome to implement PTLBs clinically are also discussed. It is imperative that these issues be addressed by academics in future studies before being implemented in clinical settings. This article is novel in its way as it will not only provide us with a gateway that acts as a novel strategy for scholars to mitigate and control the uprising issue of AMR pathogens but also promote the development of clinical studies for PTLBs.
