Abstract
We conducted a scoping review on the consecutive controlled case series (CCCS) methodology (Hagopian, 2020). The CCCS is an approach to studying functional relations across a series of consecutive cases that share common features. We identified and reviewed 76 studies that used CCCS methodology. Most of these (a) were retrospective CCCS studies that incorporated most of the CCCS elements that were identified by Hagopian (2020), (b) involved child participants with autism spectrum disorder or an intellectual disability, and (c) evaluated the assessment and treatment of challenging behavior within specialized clinical settings. The sample sizes ranged from 3 to 269 participants, with a median of 20 participants. We discuss current trends, gaps in the literature, and implications for statements of the generality of behavioral procedures.

Abstract
The multiple-baseline design is a predominant experimental design in applied behavior-analytic research. Despite its strengths, when baseline lengths are assigned a priori, it is possible that the independent variable may be implemented when baseline data are trending in the same direction that is anticipated for positive treatment outcomes, thus threatening experimental control. A partial solution to this problem is to modify the traditional multiple-baseline design and stagger baselines across more than one dimension (e.g., across both individuals and settings). The purpose of this article is to describe the historical underpinnings of this approach, to highlight more recent uses of the design, and to emphasize possible areas suitable for application.

Abstract
Access to quality education is a fundamental human right, deeply connected to an individual's overall well-being and quality of life. This article explores how effectively transferring behavior-analytic principles can improve educational outcomes and re-engineer educational systems. Drawing on Dr. Henry S. Pennypacker's work on technology transfer and cultural concerns, it examines the research-to-practice gap in K-12 education. An iterative continuum for translating research into practice is proposed and applied to school improvement. The process of technology transfer in education is analyzed, highlighting successful examples and identifying barriers to widespread adoption of behavior-analytic techniques. Barriers include implementation fidelity, teacher training, resource allocation, and school culture. Deliberate strategies to advance behavior-analytic practices in education are shared, emphasizing the potential of behavior analysis to significantly improvement educational outcomes and broader societal progress.

Abstract
Objectivity in behavior measurement is a defining feature of behavior analysis. With the increased accessibility of technology, there has been an increase in electronic data collection methods, which carry several advantages, such as ease of data transformation and transfer from electronic outputs (e.g., Microsoft Excel files). Countee is an electronic data collection application that has been named in over 30 articles in behavior-analytic journals. It is available for free on both iOS- and Android-based smartphones in multiple countries. The application allows for the programming of both frequency and duration keys, which can be used to derive additional measures. Despite its use in behavior analytic research and practice, a tutorial has not yet been published on the application. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to outline its features, provide instructions on its use, data transformations and calculations, and describe its benefits to ease replication and disseminate its use.

Abstract
Naturalistic observation of verbal behavior on social media is a method of gathering data on the acceptability of topics of social interest. In other words, online social opinion may be a modern-day measure of social validity. We sought to gain an objective understanding of online discourse related to the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA). We analyzed Twitter posts related to ABA (e.g., #ABA, #BehaviorAnalysis, #appliedbehavioranalysis). Our initial sample consisted of 119,911 tweets from 2012 to 2022. We selected a random subset (n = 11,000) for further analysis using a stratified sampling procedure to ensure that tweets across years were adequately represented. Two observers were trained to code tweets for relevance and sentiment toward the field. A total of 5,408 relevant tweets were identified and analyzed, with an arithmetic mean of 492 tweets per year. Tweets were categorized as having neutral (51.41%), positive (43.81%), or negative (4.79%) sentiment. Negative sentiment tweets received approximately three times higher engagement scores compared to positive and neutral tweets. Positive sentiment tweets commonly used hashtags related to special education, therapy, behavior analysis, autism, and specific individuals. Negative sentiment tweets focused on the harmful effects of ABA, disability, variations of ABA, and promoting alternatives to ABA. Our results suggest that there is a small but vocal minority that has the potential to shape the narrative on ABA. We suggest a path forward for behavior analysts in the study of the online discourse on ABA.

Abstract
Discussion of trauma and trauma-informed practices continues to be elusive in behavior analytic research despite the consideration that 60% of men and 50% of women in the general public are estimated to experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetimes (National Center for PTSD, 2023). In addition, it is estimated that, beyond post-traumatic stress disorder, an estimated 61% of adults have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention [CDC], 2019). It is clear from these statistics that neither trauma nor adverse experiences are uncommon. Further, these individual histories often affect future behavioral functioning, potentially resulting in the referral of the individual for behavioral services. The current study surveyed Board Certified Behavior Analysts to assess behavior analysts' current practices and perceptions of trauma-related concepts and to offer insight into how behavior analysts perceive their competence in this area of diversity. Descriptive and Ordinary Least Squares regression analyses were conducted to identify the perceptions and relationships between training and understanding of trauma-informed practices. The majority of respondents reported that training on trauma-related concepts is extremely important, yet further reported having little-to-no training on trauma-related concepts across their graduate coursework, fieldwork supervision, or continuing education. Abstract
The scope of applied behavior analysis has historically been defined by behavior analytic publications like Baer et al., Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1, 91, (1968). However, starting in 2009, state legislators began creating licensure laws for behavior analysts that formalized the scope of practice for applied behavior analysis (ABA) within the applicable states. The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to evaluate the degree scope of practice statements found in state licensure laws aligned with the individual components of Baer et al.'s seven dimensions of ABA and the APBA Model Act and (2) to evaluate the consistency of the scope of practice statements across states. Each licensed state law was identified, and the section that outlined the scope of practice was isolated and coded. The results of this study identified varying degrees of alignment with the individual components of Baer et al.'s seven dimensions and the APBA Model Act, as well as inconsistencies in the scope of practice among states with licensure for ABA. The component scores of each content area will be discussed, along with the implications for practice.

Abstract
This article addresses the relationship between applied behavior analysis (ABA) and the emergence of positive behavior support (PBS) in context of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the UK and Ireland. Two overarching issues that are salient in this discussion are professional training and certification. To date, there has been a lack of standardized training or statutory requirements to practice PBS despite proponents insisting that its practice should be grounded in behavior analytic principles. Furthermore, there is an undercurrent of anti-ABA bias fueled by misinterpretation and unsubstantiated anecdotal claims used to promote an alternative "value based" approach to managing behavior.

Abstract
Recent reviews of behavior analytic journals suggest that participant demographics are inadequately described. These reviews have been limited to brief periods across several journals, emphasized specific variables (e.g., socioeconomic status), or only included specific populations. The current scoping review included all published articles in The Analysis of Verbal Behavior from 1982-2020. Six demographic variables were coded for 1888 participants across 226 articles. Despite small sample sizes (i.e., fewer than six participants in 62.3% of studies), only age (85.4%) and gender identity (71.6%) were reported for the majority of participants. Socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity, and primary language were reported for fewer than 20% of participants. Over time, the number of demographic variables reported showed a slight increasing trend, although considerable variability was observed across years. These findings suggest that editors and reviewers must consider what constitutes acceptable participant characterization. Researchers might also be emboldened to extend their work to populations currently underrepresented in the journal.

Abstract
Behavior analysts in research and clinical practice are interested in an ever-expanding array of topics. They are compelled to explore the social validity of the interventions they propose and the findings they generate. As the field moves in these important directions, qualitative methods are becoming increasingly relevant. Representing a departure from small-n design favored by behavior analysts, qualitative approaches provide analysts a unique set of tools to answer questions that prioritize voice, experience, and understandings in context. Despite recognition of the value of qualitative approaches in other disciplines, application of qualitative methods in behavior analysis remains limited. One likely explanation is that behavior analysts are not yet fluent in applying qualitative approaches within their clinical and research investigations. To address this issue, exploration of qualitative research approaches in behavior analytic literature is needed, alongside practical advice for analysts who are interested in using qualitative methods. This article briefly outlines qualitative literature which pertains to behavior analysts wanting to incorporate qualitative methods into their inquiries. Attention is primarily drawn to the need for coherence in designing and implementing a robust qualitative study that aligns with the behavior analyst's aims and perspective on knowing. A set of guiding questions are provided to orient behavior analysts to considerations in qualitative research and outline how analysts can conceptualize a strong qualitative study. This article aims to support increased application of qualitative methods by behavior analysts, where these methods best address the function of the behavior analytic investigation.

Abstract
As the number of and demand for board certified behavior analysts (BCBAs) grows across the United States, it is increasingly important to evaluate the status of the applied behavior analysis (ABA) workforce. The goal of this study was to evaluate the current status of the field of ABA within the state of Vermont. We surveyed practicing RBTs, BCaBAs, BCBAs, BCBA-Ds, and ABA professionals within Vermont. We gathered and analyzed information regarding practitioner training and supervision experiences, current work conditions, strengths and barriers related to education, supervision, and practice within the field of ABA in Vermont, and historical and demographic information. Survey responses were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative methods and themes and results are discussed. This study may serve as a model for other states to conduct similar analyses to better meet the needs of the changing landscape of the field of ABA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Motivational Interviewing is a well-established person-centered counseling approach toward positive behavioral change. However, several limitations have been reported using motivational interviewing applications. PURPOSE This study explored the potential of an innovative intervention (namely, modified motivational interviewing) to address the limitations associated with the original form of Motivational Interviewing. METHODS The research used a phenomenological qualitative design to include three focus groups with a total sample size of 24 university nursing students to examine their experiences with the Modified Motivational Interviewing. The focus groups were transcribed verbatim and then coded to extract the themes. RESULTS The following ten themes emerged from the data analysis: increasing discrepancy; ambivalence; ready, willing, and able; change as a natural process; the role of the modified motivational interviewing facilitator; spontaneous generalization; peer support facilitates change; help-seeking behavior; practical applications of the modified motivational interviewing; and problems encountered during the implementation of modified motivational interviewing. CONCLUSIONS The proposed intervention can potentially be a cost-effective replacement for the original format of motivational interviewing intervention. Further research is needed to support the modified motivational interviewing.

Abstract
To maximize its influence, applied behavior analysis must both create solutions and shape public policy to implement those solutions at scale. From the perspective of data-driven decision making, it is illogical to talk about seeking public policy influence without consulting evidence showing when influence has been achieved. One relevant form of evidence is the attention that behavioral solutions receive in published discussions about policy issues, and here I show how much of this attention has been earned by articles published in Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. I also propose using the same kind of data to support finer grained analyses focusing on specific behavior problems, specific types of interventions, and the research programs of individual investigators. Although this is far from a complete account of the influence of applied behavior analysis on policy, it is better to have data than none if the goal is to transform the quest for influence on policy from a matter of speculation and casual discussion into an evidence-based practice.

Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) has begun to affect nearly every aspect of our daily lives and nearly every industry and profession. Many readers of this journal likely work in one or more areas of behavioral health. For readers who work in behavioral health and who are interested in AI, the purpose of this article is to highlight the pervasiveness of AI research being conducted around many facets of behavioral health service delivery. To do this, we first provide a brief overview of some of the areas within AI and the types of problems each area of AI attempts to solve. We then outline the prototypical client journey in behavioral healthcare beginning with diagnosis/assessment and ending with intervention withdrawal or ongoing monitoring. Next, for each stage in the client journey, we highlight several areas that parallel existing behavior analytic practice where researchers have begun to use AI, often to improve the efficiency of service delivery or to learn new things that improve the effectiveness of behavioral health services. Finally, for those whose appetite has been whet for getting involved with AI, we close by describing three roles they might consider trying out and that parallel the three main domains of behavior analysis. These three roles are an AI tool designer (akin to EAB), AI tool implementer (akin to ABA), or AI tool supporter (akin to practice).

Abstract
Behavior analysts have much to offer nonbehavioral professionals who work with the communities that we serve. Successful dissemination of behavior-analytic technologies to these professionals could potentially improve their practice. Although the literature contains some exemplary examples of successful dissemination, our discipline would benefit from a blueprint for conducting this important work. In this article, I share our experiences disseminating behavioral technologies to educators, law enforcement officers, and health care providers who engage with neurodiverse individuals. These experiences form the basis of a recommended blueprint for dissemination, which awaits empirical support. After describing this tentative blueprint, I provide suggestions for future research on how best to disseminate our technologies to nonbehavioral professionals, the ideal content of those dissemination activities, and the conditions under which professionals may be more likely to embed our technologies into their best practices.

Abstract
The primary goals of behavior analysis are the prediction and influence of behavior. These goals are largely achieved through the identification of functional relations between behaviors and the stimulating environment. Behavior-behavior relations are insufficient to meet these goals. Although this environment-behavior approach has been highly successful when applied to public behaviors, extensions to private events have been limited. This article discusses technical and conceptual challenges to the study of private events. We introduce a neurobiological-behavioral approach which seeks to understand private behavior as environmentally controlled in part by private neurobiological stimuli. These stimuli may enter into functional relations with both public and private behaviors. The analysis builds upon several current approaches to private events, delineates private behaviors and private stimulation, and emphasizes the reciprocal interaction between the two. By doing so, this approach can improve treatment and assessment of behavior and advance understanding of concepts such as motivating operations. We then describe the array of stimulus functions that neurobiological stimuli may acquire, including eliciting, discriminative, motivating, reinforcing, and punishing effects, and describe how the overall approach expands the concept of contextual influence. Finally, we describe how advances in behavioral neuroscience that enable the measurement and analysis of private behaviors and stimuli are allowing these once private events to affect the public world. Applications in the area of human-computer interfaces are discussed.

Abstract
Culturo-behavior science addresses many of the world's most significant problems and therefore has potential to create world-changing outcomes. Before systems level changes that improve the world can be implemented, however, it is first necessary for the public to know about and take interest in the accomplishments of culturo-behavior science. Measurable evidence that this kind of influence is being achieved is a component of "dissemination impact," an important but often overlooked form of accountability on sciences that target real-world problems. We describe a method for quantifying some aspects of dissemination impact and present data on how much of this impact has been earned by articles published in Behavior and Social Issues. The results provide considerable food for thought about how culturo-behavior science can proceed toward making the strategic pursuit of dissemination impact a component of its evidence-based practices. Abstract
AbstractSingle-case design research is pervasive and dominant in the field of behavior analysis (BA). It allows for effective application of behavior change technologies in a wide variety of real-world settings. However, as the field has grown, behavioral scholars have suggested incorporating other methods into the investigator’s toolbox to supplement single-case design. To date, the call to expand beyond using only variations of single-case design as the standard for behavior analytic research has gone largely unheard. Given the need for behavior analytic work to be more closely aligned with consumer and stakeholder needs and priorities, along with a proliferation of practitioners and researchers in the field, now is the time to consider the benefits of qualitative research methods for behavior analysts. In particular, in areas of social validity and in exploring diverse applied topics, qualitative methods may help the field of behavior analysis to achieve greater success with documenting the outcomes from behavior change interventions. The present article explores areas where behavior analysis may benefit from utilizing qualitative methods, namely social validity and breadth of topics for study, and provides examples of the value of qualitative research from other fields. A brief outline of qualitative research is provided alongside consideration of the seven dimensions of applied behavior analysis. In situations where single-case design does not offer behavior analysts sufficient methodological opportunity, qualitative research methods could form a powerful addition to the field of behavior analysis.

Abstract
Behavioral science has a long history of engaging in efforts to understand and address socially important issues. Poverty and inequities in health and development are among the most important and complex social issues facing the world today. With its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations (2015) has focused attention and guidance on addressing key global challenges, including to "end poverty" (SDG 1), "ensure good health and well-being for all" (SDG3), and "reduce inequality within and among countries" (SDG 10). In this paper, we provide a framework and illustrative examples of contributions of behavioral science to these issues. We feature illustrative behavioral interventions at the individual, relationship, community, and societal levels. We highlight the diversity of issues, intervention methods, and settings reflected in applications of behavioral science. By joining methods from behavioral science, public health, and other disciplines-and the experiential knowledge of those most affected by inequities-behavioral methods can make significant contributions to collaborative efforts to assure health and well-being for all.

Abstract
Behavior analysts are not recognized or regulated as a distinct profession in Europe. For the most part, European behavior analysts adhered to the standards set by the U.S.-based Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). However, the BACB certification has not been recognized officially in any European jurisdiction. The recent decision by the BACB to discontinue eligibility of non-U.S. residents to apply for the BCBA exam by the end of 2022 has brought the issue of professional regulation outside of the United States into sharp focus. This article offers a snapshot in time of professional recognition of behavior analysts in 21 European countries. It stems from the Erasmus+ funded EuroBA project and its Professional Advisory Group (PAG). The EuroBA project aims to develop common standards and competences for behavior analysts to facilitate national regulation and mutual recognition across Europe.

Abstract
Effective practices for supporting families with autistic children ensure a match between their needs and the expectations and competencies of the clinician. Applied behavior analysis (ABA) services are a common provision for serving autistic individuals. However, in regions where ABA is in its infancy, like the Czech Republic and North Macedonia, culturally relevant resources, regulations for practice, and standardized coursework are missing. In their absence, it is necessary to investigate the degree to which practitioners in the regions are meeting the behavioral needs of families. Assessing this match can set the stage for establishing more stable and effective services in the areas, as well as neighboring countries with similar historical foundations. Therefore, a survey was conducted to examine the perceptions of caregivers and trainers (those who self-identified as providing support to families with autistic children). A total of 233 caregivers and 204 trainers participated. Analysis of the survey responses verified the lack of behavioral knowledge on the part of the trainers, the apparent lack of access to ABA services for families in both regions, a potential misalignment between family needs and training targets, and the disparities between the two countries. The information evaluated here can be used to guide preservice training, dissemination efforts, and regulations surrounding behavioral practices.
