Abstract
Glioblastoma is the most aggressive type of brain tumor, with current therapies failing to significantly improve patient survival. Vitamins have important effects on cellular processes that are relevant for tumor development and progression. AIM The present study explored the effect of pyridoxine or cobalamin supplementation on the viability and cell cycle progression of human glioblastoma cell line U-87 MG. METHOD Cell cultures were treated with increasing concentrations of pyridoxine or cobalamin for 24-72 h. After supplementation, cell viability and cell cycle progression were assessed by spectrophotometry and flow cytometry. Analysis of Bcl-2 and active caspase 3 expression in supplemented cells was performed by western blot. RESULT The results show that pyridoxine supplementation decreases cell viability in a dose and time dependent manner. Loss of viability in pyridoxin-supplemented cells is probably related to less cell cycle progression, higher active caspase 3 expression and apoptosis. In addition, Bcl-2 expression did not appear to be altered by vitamin supplementation, but active caspase 3 expression was significantly increased in pyridoxine-, but not cobalamin-supplemented cells, furthermore, cobalamin inhibited the pyridoxine cytotoxicity in the cell viability assay when combined. CONCLUSION The results suggest that pyridoxine supplementation promotes apoptosis in human glioblastoma-derived cells and may be useful to enhance the effect of cytotoxic therapies in vivo.

Abstract
Vitamin B12 (B12) is a molecule involved in several biological. Abnormally high levels are frequently found, but their causes can be multiple, and consequences have not been clearly elucidated. The objective of this review was to summarize the current evidence on the associations of elevated B12 and the development of cancer, and all-cause mortality in adults. Six references looking at mortality and seven looking at cancer risk were included. The evidence suggests an association between elevated B12 with a higher risk of cancer, with risk ratios ranging 1,88 to 5,9. There was less consistent evidence linking vitamin B12 and mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is an important enzyme involved in folate and homocysteine metabolism, which are necessary for DNA methylation and nucleotide synthesis. Genetic polymorphisms that reduce MTHFR activity have been linked to several diseases, including prostate cancer. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether MTHFR polymorphisms, along with serum levels of folate, vitamin B12, and homocysteine, are associated with prostate cancer risk in the Algerian population. METHODS A total of 106 Algerian men with newly diagnosed prostate cancer and 125 healthy controls were included in this case-control study. The MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms were analyzed using PCR/RFLP and Real-Time PCR TaqMan® assays, respectively. Serum levels of folate, total homocysteine, and vitamin B12 were measured using an automatic biochemistry analyzer. RESULTS We found no significant differences in the genotype frequency of A1298C and C677T between prostate cancer patients and controls. Moreover, serum levels of folate, total homocysteine, and vitamin B12 were not significantly associated with prostate cancer risk (p > 0.05). However, age and family history were identified as significant risk factors (OR = 1.178, p = 0.00 and OR = 10.03, p = 0.007, respectively). CONCLUSION Our study suggests that MTHFR C677T and A1298C, as well as serum levels of folate, total homocysteine, and vitamin B12, are not associated with prostate cancer risk in the Algerian population. However, age and family history are significant risk factors. Further studies with a larger sample size are required to confirm these findings.

Abstract
Background Dietary antioxidants have long been thought to be likely to prevent the development of gliomas. Previous studies have reported vitamin A, C, and E protective effects against gliomas. B vitamins, one of the main vitamins in the diet, are closely related to human health, but the association with gliomas has rarely been reported. Objective This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between five B vitamins and glioma. Methods In this Chinese population-based case-control study, 506 glioma cases and 506 matched (age and sex) controls were included. The dietary intake of study participants was assessed using a valid 111-item food frequency questionnaire. The intake of five B vitamins was calculated based on participants' dietary information from the food frequency questionnaire. The logistic regression model was used to examine the association between B vitamins and glioma, and the restriction cubic spline evaluated the dose-response relationship between the two. Results After adjusting for confounding factors, thiamine (OR = 0.09, 95%CI: 0.05-0.20), riboflavin (OR = 0.12, 95%CI: 0.06-0.25), nicotinic acid (OR = 0.24, 95%CI: 0.12-0.47), folate (OR = 0.07, 95%CI: 0.03-0.15) and biotin (OR = 0.14, 95%CI: 0.07-0.30) in the highest tertile were associated with a significantly decreased risk of glioma compared with the lowest tertile. The results of thiamine and biotin in glioma with different pathological types and grades were different. The restricted cubic spline function showed significant dose-response relationships between the intake of five B vitamins and the risk of glioma. When B vitamins exceeded a specific intake, the risk of glioma did not change. Conclusion Our study suggests that higher dietary intake of thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinic acid, and folate are associated with a decreased risk of glioma, but the results of biotin are not consistent among different populations. In the future, prospective studies should be conducted better to validate the effects of B vitamins on gliomas.

Abstract
Variation in vitamin B12 levels has been associated with a range of diseases across the life-course, the causal nature of which remains elusive. We aimed to interrogate genetically predicted vitamin B12 status in relation to a plethora of clinical outcomes available in the UK Biobank. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data obtained from a Danish and Icelandic cohort of 45,576 individuals were used to identify 8 genetic variants associated with vitamin B12 levels, serving as genetic instruments for vitamin B12 status in subsequent analyses. We conducted a Mendelian randomisation (MR)-phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) of vitamin B12 status with 945 distinct phenotypes in 439,738 individuals from the UK Biobank using these 8 genetic instruments to proxy alterations in vitamin B12 status. We used external GWAS summary statistics for replication of significant findings. Correction for multiple testing was taken into consideration using a 5% false discovery rate (FDR) threshold. MR analysis identified an association between higher genetically predicted vitamin B12 status and lower risk of vitamin B deficiency (including all B vitamin deficiencies), serving as a positive control outcome. We further identified associations between higher genetically predicted vitamin B12 status and a reduced risk of megaloblastic anaemia (OR = 0.35, 95% CI: 0.20-0.50) and pernicious anaemia (0.29, 0.19-0.45), which was supported in replication analyses. Our study highlights that higher genetically predicted vitamin B12 status is potentially protective of risk of vitamin B12 deficiency associated with pernicious anaemia diagnosis, and reduces risk of megaloblastic anaemia. The potential use of genetically predicted vitamin B12 status in disease diagnosis, progression and management remains to be investigated.

Abstract
Patients with cancer have been reported to show elevated plasma concentrations of vitamin B12, thus causing uncertainties regarding safety of vitamin B12. We conducted a systematic literature search and a scoping review of human studies published in PubMed between January 2005 and March 2022, to investigate the association between vitamin B12 (concentrations of B12 biomarkers, intake, and genetic determinants) and cancer. Except for liver cancer, the association between plasma vitamin B12 concentrations and cancer was not consistent across the studies. Vitamin B12 intake from food, or food and supplements, showed even less consistent associations with cancer. There was no evidence for temporality, coherence, or a biologically meaningful dose-response relationship between plasma vitamin B12 concentrations and cancer. Genetically determined high plasma vitamin B12 was likely to be associated with cancer. Available randomized controlled trials have used a high dose of multivitamin supplements and cancer was the unplanned outcome, thus the causality of B12 in cancer cannot be judged based on these trials. Additionally, low plasma vitamin B12 concentrations were common in patients with cancer. Therefore, there is not sufficient evidence to assume that high plasma vitamin B12, high B12 intake, or treatment with pharmacological doses of vitamin B12, is causally related to cancer. Low vitamin B12 status in patients with cancer needs to be diagnosed and treated in order to prevent the hematological and neurological sequela of the deficiency.

Abstract
Cobalamin or vitamin B12 (B12) is a cofactor for methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, two enzymes implicated in key pathways for cell proliferation: methylation, purine synthesis, succinylation and ATP production. Ensuring these functions in cancer cells therefore requires important cobalamin needs and its uptake through the transcobalamin II receptor (TCII-R). Thus, both the TCII-R and the cobalamin-dependent metabolic pathways constitute promising therapeutic targets to inhibit cancer development. However, the link between cobalamin and solid cancers is not limited to cellular metabolism, as it also involves the circulating transcobalamins I and II (TCI or haptocorrin and TCII) carrier proteins, encoded by TCN1 and TCN2, respectively. In this respect, elevations of B12, TCI and TCII concentrations in plasma are associated with cancer onset and relapse, and with the presence of metastases and worse prognosis. In addition, TCN1 and TCN2 overexpressions are associated with chemoresistance and a proliferative phenotype, respectively. Here we review the involvement of cobalamin and transcobalamins in cancer diagnosis and prognosis, and as potential therapeutic targets. We further detail the relationship between cobalamin-dependent metabolic pathways in cancer cells and the transcobalamins' abundancies in plasma and tumors, to ultimately hypothesize screening and therapeutic strategies linking these aspects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND One-carbon metabolism genes are linked to several cancers, but the association with prostate cancer (PCa) is less clear. Studies examining the relationship have not accounted for obesity, a risk factor for advanced PCa and altered methylation patterns. We hypothesized that obesity could moderate the association between one-carbon metabolism genes and PCa outcomes. METHODS We conducted secondary data analyses of the Study of Clinical Outcomes, Risk and Ethnicity. Obesity was included as a primary exposure and modifier (interacting with genetic polymorphisms) in the analytic models. We used logistic regression to determine associations of common one-carbon metabolism genotypes with odds of high stage (T3/T4) and high grade (Gleason score ≥ 7). We used Cox regression to examine associations of genotypes with biochemical recurrence. RESULTS There were 808 patients (632 White and 176 Black.) Among White men, we observed associations of TCN2_R259P with increased odds of high stage (OR = 0.64, 95% CI = 0.41-1.00), but no significant interactions with obesity. Among Black men, the SCL19A1_61bpdel and CBS_68bpINS variants were associated with high grade (OR = 2.61, 95% CI = 1.39-4.89 and OR = 0.29, 95% CI = 0.09-0.91, respectively.) Both the CBS_68bpINS and MTHFR_E429A variants interacted with obesity in Black men, where the highest risk for biochemical failure and odds of high grade, respectively, occurred among obese patients with variants. CONCLUSIONS We observed associations of one-carbon metabolism genes with different associations by race. We also observed interactions with obesity related to PCa outcomes in Black men only. Therefore, the involvement of one-carbon metabolism on PCa was dependent upon obesity status for Black men. These novel results could help identify patients that might benefit from effective weight management targeting one-carbon metabolism effects.

Abstract
B group vitamins represent essential micronutrients for myriad metabolic and regulatory processes required for human health, serving as cofactors used by hundreds of enzymes that carry out essential functions such as energy metabolism, DNA and protein synthesis and other critical functions. B vitamins and their corresponding vitamers are universally essential for all cellular life forms, from bacteria to humans. Humans are unable to synthesize most B vitamins and are therefore dependent on their diet for these essential micronutrients. More recently, another source of B vitamins has been identified which is derived from portions of the 1013 bacterial cells inhabiting the gastrointestinal tract. Here we review the expanding literature examining the relationship between B vitamins and the immune system and diverse cancers. Evidence of B vitamin’s role in immune cell regulation has accumulated in recent years and may help to clarify the disparate findings of numerous studies attempting to link B vitamins to cancer development. Much work remains to be carried out to fully clarify these relationships as the complexity of B vitamins’ essential functions complicates an unequivocal assessment of their beneficial or detrimental effects in inflammation and cancers.

Abstract
The association between elevated plasma vitamin B12 (B12) level and solid cancers has been documented by two national registries. However, their design did not allow for the adjustment for other conditions associated with elevated B12. The objectives of this study were to confirm this association after the adjustment for all causes of elevated B12, and to study the variations according to the increasing B12 level, the type of cancers, and the presence of metastases. We compared 785 patients with B12 ≥ 1000 ng/L with 785 controls matched for sex and age with B12 < 1000 ng/L. Analyses were adjusted for the causes of elevated B12: myeloid blood malignancies, acute or chronic liver diseases, chronic kidney failure, autoimmune or inflammatory diseases, and excessive B12 supplementation. A B12 ≥ 1000 ng/L was associated with the presence of solid cancer without metastases (OR 1.96 [95%CI: 1.18 to 3.25]) and with metastases (OR 4.21 [95%CI: 2.67 to 6.64]) after adjustment for all elevated B12-related causes. The strength of the association rose with the increasing B12 level, in particular in cases of metastases. No association between liver cancers and elevated B12 level was found after adjustment for chronic liver diseases. In conclusion, unexplained elevated B12 levels should be examined as a possible marker of solid cancer.

Abstract
Background/Aims: Previous results on the association between MTR gene A2756G polymorphism and PCa risk are inconclusive. Methods: We used odds ratios (ORs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) to evaluate the correlation between MTR A2756G polymorphism and risk of PCa in meta-analysis. Serum expression of MTR was detected by ELISA and in-silico tools were utilized to assess this variant. Results: Our study included 2,921 PCa patients and 3,095 control subjects. The results indicated that the MTR A2756G polymorphism is linked with an increased risk of PCa using three genetic models (G-allele vs. A-allele: OR = 1.16, 95%CI = 1.04 - 1.30; GA vs. AA: OR = 1.17, 95%CI = 1.02 - 1.33; GG+GA vs. AA: OR = 1.18, 95%CI = 1.04 - 1.34). Stratified analysis produced similar results. A significant association was also indicated in advanced PCa from the meta-analysis. Finally, our experiments showed evidence that serum MTR levels in PCa patients with AA genotypes were statistically higher than in those with GG/GA genotypes. Conclusions: Our present study suggests that the MTR A2756G polymorphism may contribute to the risk of developing PCa, particularly in Asian and hospital-based studies. Moreover, serum MTR might be utilized in diagnosis of PCa.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prostate cancer (PCa) remains a leading cause of mortality in US and other countries. Preclinical and clinical studies have examined the role of nutrition and dietary intake on the incidence and progression of PCa with mixed results. OBJECTIVE The objective of this chapter is to provide an update of recent published literature and highlight progress in the field. MAIN FINDINGS Low carbohydrate intake, soy protein, ω3 fat, green teas, tomatoes and tomato products and the herbal mixture-zyflamend showed promise in reducing PCa risk or progression. On the contrary, a higher animal fat intake and a higher β-carotene status may increase risk. A "U" shape relationship may exist between folate, vitamin C, vitamin D and calcium with PCa risk. Conclusion Despite the inconclusive findings, the potential for a role of dietary intake for the prevention and treatment of PCa remains promising. Maintaining a healthy body weight and following a healthy dietary pattern including antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables, reduced animal fat and refined carbohydrates, should be encouraged. Abstract
BACKGROUND Folic acid and its derivates, known as folates, are chemoprotective micronutrients of great interest because of their essential role in the maintenance of health and genomic integrity. The supplementation of folic acid during pregnancy has long been known to reduce the risk of neural tube defects (NTDs) in the foetus. Folate metabolism can be altered by many factors, including adequate intake through diet. Folate deficiency can compromise the synthesis, repair and methylation of DNA, with deleterious consequences on genomic stability and gene expression. These processes are known to be altered in chronic diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular diseases. MAIN BODY This review focuses on the association between folate intake and the risk of childhood leukaemia. Having compiled and analysed studies from the literature, we show the documented effects of folates on the genome and their role in cancer prevention and progression with particular emphasis on DNA methylation modifications. These changes are of crucial importance during pregnancy, as maternal diet has a profound impact on the metabolic and physiological functions of the foetus and the susceptibility to disease in later life. Folate deficiency is capable of modifying the methylation status of certain genes at birth in both animals and humans, with potential pathogenic and tumorigenic effects on the progeny. Pre-existing genetic polymorphisms can modify the metabolic network of folates and influence the risk of cancer, including childhood leukaemias. The protective effects of folic acid might be dose dependent, as excessive folic acid could have the adverse effect of nourishing certain types of tumours. CONCLUSION Overall, maternal folic acid supplementation before and during pregnancy seems to confer protection against the risk of childhood leukaemia in the offspring. The optimal folic acid requirements and supplementation doses need to be established, especially in conjunction with other vitamins in order to determine the most successful combinations of nutrients to maintain genomic health and wellbeing. Further research is therefore needed to uncover the role of maternal diet as a whole, as it represents a main factor capable of inducing permanent changes in the foetus.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION folic acid is a water soluble vitamin, which is synthetically-produced and found in fortified foods and supplements. Folate is found naturally in plants, such as the dark green leafy vegetables. Folate is not synthesized de novo by humans, therefore the daily requirements are met from the dietary intake of folic acid supplements or food rich in this vitamin. Folate deficiency could lead to numerous common health problems. Hyperhomocysteinemia and the possibility of malignancy developments are the long term consequences of this deficit albeit contradictory findings on these claims. METHODS the articles included in this review focused on recent updated evidence-based reports and meta-analyses on the associations of the serum folate/folic acid and the various diseases found globally. RESULTS the benefit of folic acid supplementation in the pre-conception period for the prevention of neural tube defects (NTDs) was well established and it was suggested that counseling sessions should be given to women with previous pregnancies affected by NTDs. However, supplementation of folic acid and its medicinal effects in the treatment of other diseases were contradictory and unclear. CONCLUSION more detailed investigations into the health benefits of folic acid are needed before it could be recommended for supplementation, treatment or prevention of some of the diseases discussed in this review.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) was originally considered toxic at elevated levels; however just in the past decade H2S has been proposed to be an important gasotransmitter with various physiological and pathophysiological roles in the body. H2S can be generated endogenously from L-cysteine by multiple enzymes, including cystathionine gamma-lyase, cystathionine beta-synthase, and 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase in combination with cysteine aminotransferase. Prostate cancer is a major health concern and no effective treatment for prostate cancers is available. H2S has been shown to inhibit cell survival of androgen-independent, androgen-dependent, and antiandrogen-resistant prostate cancer cells through different mechanisms. Various H2S-releasing compounds, including sulfide salts, diallyl disulfide, diallyl trisulfide, sulforaphane, and other polysulfides, also have been shown to inhibit prostate cancer growth and metastasis. The expression of H2S-producing enzyme was reduced in both human prostate cancer tissues and prostate cancer cells. Androgen receptor (AR) signaling is indispensable for the development of castration resistant prostate cancer, and H2S was shown to inhibit AR transactivation and contributes to antiandrogen-resistant status. In this review, we summarized the current knowledge of H2S signaling in prostate cancer and described the molecular alterations, which may bring this gasotransmitter into the clinic in the near future for developing novel pharmacological and therapeutic interventions for prostate cancer.

Abstract
SCOPE Impaired folate metabolism increases the risk of birth defects, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and cancer. We used Caenorhabditis elegans to investigate impaired folate metabolism by RNA interference of key enzymes in the methionine synthase (MS) and thymidylate synthase (TS) cycle and by folate deficiency and over-supplementation feeding studies. METHODS AND RESULTS Folate status is influenced by genetic variations (polymorphisms), folate deficiency and supplementation. Single RNAi of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and MS revealed that gene regulation is largely affected in both folate cycles. Adaptation requires a close transcriptional connection between TS and MS cycle. Coupled DHFR and MS expression is required to balance both cycles, but seems to reduce the overall rate of folate conversion. Feeding studies showed that folate over-supplementation to functioning metabolism inactivates MS and MTHFR expression and enhances TS activity, which favors DNA synthesis over methylation reactions. Folate deficiency disrupted homeostasis by favoring TS cycle and led to malformation in C. elegans offspring. Embryos show aneuploidy and are nonviable lacking DNA repair during meiotic stage of diakinesis. CONCLUSION Single gene silencing alters gene expression in both cycles and disrupts folate homeostasis. Folate over-supplementation and deficiency favors TS over MS cycle and causes prophase DNA damage.

Prostate cancer (PCa) remains a leading cause of mortality in US men and the prevalence continues to rise world-wide especially in countries where men consume a 'Western-style' diet. Epidemiologic, preclinical and clinical studies suggest a potential role for dietary intake on the incidence and progression of PCa. 'This minireview provides an overview of recent published literature with regard to nutrients, dietary factors, dietary patterns and PCa incidence and progression. Low carbohydrates intake, soy protein, omega-3 (w-3) fat, green teas, tomatoes and tomato products and zyflamend showed promise in reducing PCa risk or progression. A higher saturated fat intake and a higher β-carotene status may increase risk. A 'U' shape relationship may exist between folate, vitamin C, vitamin D and calcium with PCa risk. Despite the inconsistent and inconclusive findings, the potential for a role of dietary intake for the prevention and treatment of PCa is promising. The combination of all the beneficial factors for PCa risk reduction in a healthy dietary pattern may be the best dietary advice. This pattern includes rich fruits and vegetables, reduced refined carbohydrates, total and saturated fats, and reduced cooked meats. Further carefully designed prospective trials are warranted.

Abstract
PURPOSE Massively parallel sequencing to detect fetal aneuploidy has high sensitivity and specificity for the detection of trisomies 21, 18, and 13 in high-risk populations. The purpose of our study was to review our institution's experience with the use of noninvasive prenatal testing for aneuploidy screening. METHODS This was a descriptive study of patients who had undergone noninvasive prenatal testing between January and September 2012 at the UNC Prenatal Diagnosis unit. RESULTS Two hundred and eight women had undergone noninvasive prenatal testing during the study period. The majority of patients were white (62.9%) and of advanced maternal age (71.2%). The fetal fraction was below the threshold in three obese patients (1.4%). An abnormal noninvasive prenatal test (aneuploidy detected or "unclassified" result) was reported in 6.3% (13/208) of the patients. Noninvasive prenatal testing had a combined sensitivity of 87.5% and specificity of 99.5% for detection of trisomies 21, 18, and 13. There were "unclassified" results in 11.1% (5/45) of the patients. Over the study period, the number of patients requesting noninvasive prenatal testing increased monthly. The rate of amniocenteses significantly declined (8.1% before vs. 5.3% after noninvasive prenatal testing, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION An increase in uptake of noninvasive prenatal testing and a significant decline in amniocentesis procedures were observed. The rates of "unclassified," false-positive, and false-negative results were higher than anticipated based on published preclinical trials.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE we conducted a case-control study to investigate the association between dietary folate, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 intake, MTHFR and MTR genotype, and breast cancer risk. METHODS Genotyping for MTHFR C677T and A1298C and MTR A2756G polymorphisms were performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis (PCR-RFLP) method. The intake of folate, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 were calculated by each food item from questionnaire. RESULTS Subjects with breast cancer tended to have more first-degree relatives (χ(2) =30.77, P<0.001) and have high intake of folate (t=2.42, P=0.008) and Vitamin B6 (t=2.94, P=0.002). Compared to the reference group, women with MTHFR 677 TT genotype and T allele had a significantly increased risk of breast cancer, with ORs (95%CI) of 1.8(1.08-2.27) and 1.39(1.02-1.92), respectively. For those who had folate intake<450 ug/day, MTHFR 667TT genotype was associated with a higher risk of breast cancer (OR=2.45, 95% CI=1.09-5.82, P=0.02). Similarly, subjects with Vitamin B6 intake<0.84 mg/day and MTHFR 667T allele genotype was correlated with a marginally increased risk of breast cancer. A significant interaction was observed between MTHFR C667T polymorphism and folate intake on the risk of breast cancer (P for interaction was 0.025). CONCLUSION This case-control study found a significant association between MTHFR C667T polymorphism, folate intake and vitamin B6 and breast cancer risk, and a significant interaction was observed between MTHFR C667T polymorphism and folate intake on the risk of breast cancer.

Abstract
Increased blood cell regeneration in exsanguinated experimental animals treated either with liver or with aqueous liver extracts was reported by Whipple and by Jeney and Jobling, respectively. These findings stimulated Minot and Murphy to provide evidence for the efficacy of liver against anaemia in clinical studies. After oral administration of liver (45-50 g per day) for 45 patients with anaemia perniciosa improvement of the hematological status was demonstrated. Consequently, for proving the therapeutic value of liver therapy Whipple, Minot and Murphy received Nobel price in 1934. The isolation of the antianemic factor from the liver has been succeeded in 1948 and designated as vitamin B12. At the same time Lucy Wills applied yeast for the treatment of pregnant women with anemia related to undernourishment. The conclusions of this study inspired the discovery of folate. The detailed investigation of the mode of action of vitamin B12 and folate enriched our knowledge in the area of pathophysiology and extended the clinical application of these two drugs.
