A multivariate multianalyte screening method for sulfonamides in milk based on front-face fluorescence spectroscopy

Electrochemical Analysis of Sulfisoxazole Using Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE) and MWCNTs/Rare Earth Oxide (CeO2 and Yb2O3) Modified-GCE Sensors

In this work, new electrochemical sensors based on the modification of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-rare metal oxides (REMO) nanocomposites were fabricated by drop-to-drop method of MWCNTs-REMO dispersion in ethanol. REMO nanoparticles were synthesized by precipitation followed by hydrothermal treatment at 180 °C in absence and presence of Triton^TM X-100 surfactant. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) analysis using MWCNTs-CeO₂@GCE and MWCNTs-Yb₂O₃@GCE sensors were used for the analysis of sulfisoxazole (SFX) drug in water samples. The results of CV analysis showed that MWCNTs-REMO@GCE sensors have up to 40-fold higher sensitivity with CeO₂ compared to the bare GCE sensor. The estimated values of the limit of detection (LoD) of this electrochemical sensing using MWCNTs-CeO₂@GCE and MWCNTs-Yb₂O₃@GCE electrodes reached 0.4 and 0.7 μM SFX in phosphate buffer pH = 7, respectively. These findings indicate that MWCNTs-REMO@GCE electrodes are potential sensors for analysis of sulfonamide drugs in water and biological samples.

Nanohybrid magnetic composite optosensing probes for the enrichment and ultra-trace detection of mafenide and sulfisoxazole

Nanohybrid magnetic optosensing probes were designed and fabricated to enrich and detect ultra-trace levels of mafenide and sulfisoxazole simultaneously. The probes combined the high affinity of MIL-101 and the sensitivity of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs) with the selectivity and rapid separation provided by a magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (MMIP). Since the MIL101-MMIP-GQD and MIL101-MMIP-CdTe QD probes produced high fluorescence emission intensities at 435 and 572 nm, respectively, mafenide and sulfisoxazole could be simultaneously detected. Quantitative analysis was based on fluorescence quenching produced by binding between target molecules and imprinted recognition cavities. In the optimal experimental condition, emission intensity was quenched linearly with increasing analyte concentration from 0.10 to 25.0 μg L^-1. Limit of detection was 0.10 μg L^-1 for mafenide and sulfisoxazole. The developed optosensor was applied to detect ultra-trace amounts of mafenide and sulfisoxazole in bovine milk. Recoveries of mafenide and sulfisoxazole in spiked bovine milk ranged from 80.4 to 97.9% with RSDs <5% and the analysis results agreed well with HPLC analysis. The proposed probes provided excellent sensitivity, selectivity, ease and convenience of use.

Recent advances in sample preparation techniques and methods of sulfonamides detection - A review

Sulfonamides (SAs) have been the most widely used antimicrobial drugs for more than 70 years, and their residues in foodstuffs and environmental samples pose serious health hazards. For this reason, sensitive and specific methods for the quantification of these compounds in numerous matrices have been developed. This review intends to provide an updated overview of the recent trends over the past five years in sample preparation techniques and methods for detecting SAs. Examples of the sample preparation techniques, including liquid-liquid and solid-phase extraction, dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction and QuEChERS, are given. Different methods of detecting the SAs present in food and feed and in environmental, pharmaceutical and biological samples are discussed.
