Abstract
Hysterectomy is associated with an increased risk for adverse health outcomes. However, its connection to the risk of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) remains unclear. The aims of our study were to investigate the associations between hysterectomy, oophorectomy and risk of NHL and its major subtypes (eg, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma [DLBCL]), and whether these associations were modified by exogenous hormone use. Postmenopausal women (n = 141,621) aged 50-79 years at enrollment (1993-1998) from the Women's Health Initiative were followed for an average of 17.2 years. Hysterectomy and oophorectomy were self-reported at baseline. Incident NHL cases were confirmed by central review of medical records and pathology reports. During the follow-up period, a total of 1719 women were diagnosed with NHL. Hysterectomy, regardless of oophorectomy status, was associated with an increased risk of NHL (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.23, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.05-1.44). Oophorectomy was not independently associated with NHL risk after adjusting for hysterectomy. When stratified by hormone use, the association between hysterectomy and NHL risk was confined to women who had never used hormone therapy (HR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.06-1.71), especially for DLBCL subtype (P for interaction = .01), and to those who had undergone hysterectomy before the age of 55. Our large prospective study showed that hysterectomy was a risk factor of NHL. Findings varied by hormone use. Future studies incorporating detailed information on the types and indications of hysterectomy may deepen our understanding of the mechanisms underlying DLBCL development and its potential interactions with hormone use.

Abstract
Physical activity is known to convey protection against several cancers. However, results on the risk of lymphoma overall and its subtypes have been inconsistent. The aim of this study was to investigate occupational and recreational physical activity in relation to risk of lymphoma subtypes adjusting for established occupational risk factors. We applied standardized tools to assess energy expenditure at work and in recreational physical activities to the questionnaire information on lifetime work and exercise history in 1117 lymphoma cases, including Hodgkin lymphoma, and B-cell (including chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and multiple myeloma) and T-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) subtypes, and 1207 controls who took part in the multicentre European EpiLymph case-control study. We calculated the risk of lymphoma (all subtypes), B-cell NHL and its most represented subtypes, and Hodgkin's lymphoma (all subtypes) associated with weekly average Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET-hours/week) and cumulative MET-hours of lifetime recreational, occupational, and total physical activity, with unconditional logistic regression and polytomous regression analysis adjusting by age, centre, sex, education, body mass index, history of farm work and solvent use. We observed an inverse association of occupational, and total physical activity with risk of lymphoma (all subtypes), and B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma among women, and an upward trend in risk of Hodgkin's lymphoma with recreational and total physical activity among men, for which we cannot exclude chance or bias. Our results suggest no effect of overall physical activity on risk of lymphoma and its subtypes.

Abstract
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is composed of a heterogeneous collection of subtypes with considerable differences in genetics, biology and aetiology. Studies to date on physical activity and NHL risk have not had sufficient sample size to evaluate whether associations differ by subtype. We pooled data from nine case-control studies to examine the association between moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) and risk of NHL overall and by subtype (diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma, marginal zone lymphoma and mature T-cell lymphoma). A total of 5653 cases and 9115 controls were included in the pooled analysis. Physical activity was harmonised across nine studies and modelled as study-specific tertiles. Multinomial logistic regression was used to estimate the association between physical activity and NHL, adjusting for confounders. The overall odds of NHL was 13% lower among participants in the most active tertile of MVPA compared to the least active tertile (adjusted odds ratio = 0.87, 95% CI = 0.80, 0.95). Similar decreases were observed across NHL subtypes. In summary, in this pooled analysis of case-control studies, physical activity was associated with a modest risk reduction for each NHL subtype examined and with overall NHL.

Abstract
Background The literature suggests an increased risk between anthropometrics including higher body mass index and lymphoma incidence; however, the association with physical activity remains unclear. A systematic review/meta-analysis was therefore performed to examine this association with physical activity (total, recreational or occupational). Methods PubMed, Web of Science and Embase were reviewed from inception to October 2019 identifying relevant observational studies. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) including subtypes diffuse large B cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma, and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) were analyzed. Included studies reported activity, lymphoma cases, effect size and variability measures, and were restricted to human subjects of any age. Data was pooled generating summary relative risk (RR) estimates with 95% confidence intervals (CI) using random-effects models with primary outcome of histologically confirmed incident lymphoma. Results One thousand four hundred studies were initially identified with 18 studies (nine cohort, nine case-control) included in final analysis. Comparing highest vs. lowest activity categories was protective for all lymphoma (RR 0.89, 95%CI 0.81–0.98). Sensitivity analysis demonstrated effect persistence within case-control studies (RR 0.82, 95% CI 0.71–0.96), but not cohort studies (RR 0.95, 95%CI 0.84–1.07). Borderline protective effect was seen for NHL (RR 0.92, 95%CI 0.84–1.00), but not HL (RR 0.72, 95%CI 0.50–1.04). Analysis by NHL subtype or gender showed no effect. Dose response analysis demonstrated a protective effect (p = 0.034) with a 1% risk reduction per 3 MET hours/week (RR 0.99, 95%CI 0.98–1.00). Conclusions Physical activity may have a protective effect against lymphoma development; further studies are required to generate recommendations regarding health policy. Abstract
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is an etiologically, clinically, and histologically heterogeneous group of lymphoproliferative disorders. Immune dysfunction is a well-known risk factor and dysregulation of cytokines may mediate disease progression. Obesity is one of the important relations connecting immune system abnormalities and lymphomagenesis. We conducted a study to find out the association between obesity as measured by body mass index (BMI), and risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) development by assessment the of inflammatory cytokines levels, (IL-6, IL-10, IFN-gamma and CRP) and adipokines levels (leptin and adiponectin). Also, to predict the effect of higher BMI on the incidence of NHL. The study included 180 NHL patients and 172 healthy controls. The inflammatory markers (IL-6, IL-10, IFN-γ & CRP) together with adiponectin were assessed by ELISA technique. IL-6, IL-10, CRP, IFN-γ and Adiponectin were statistically higher in cases than control. A positive significant difference of Leptin (p-value 0.001) was found with higher levels in patients with BMI (≥ 25 kg/m2) than in patients with < 25 kg/m2. IL-6, IL-10, CRP, IFN-γ and Adiponectin could be implicated in lymphomagenesis in Egyptian NHL. The study results support the hypothesis that obesity has a major role in the development of NHL. An association between Leptin and NHL risk with higher levels in patients with BMI (≥ 25 kg/m2) was proved.

Abstract
The associations between body fatness at a young age (childhood, adolescence and young adulthood; age ≤ 30 years) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), oesophageal adenocarcinoma, gastric cardia cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, multiple myeloma, pancreatic cancer, renal cell cancer and thyroid cancer remain inconclusive. We performed a comprehensive systematic literature review and meta-analysis of observational studies to clarify the associations between body fatness at a young age and the risks of these cancers. PubMed and Web of Science databases were searched for relevant observational studies. Fifty-six articles yielded data on 27,559 cancer cases, including 3,170 DLBCL, 1,491 oesophageal adenocarcinoma, 1,103 gastric cardia cancer, 1,067 hepatocellular carcinoma, 3,090 multiple myeloma, 7,220 pancreatic cancer, 6,212 renal cell cancer and 4,206 thyroid cancer cases. Each 5 kg m-2 increase in body mass index at a young age was positively associated with DLBCL (relative risk [RR] 1.21, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.09, 1.35), oesophageal adenocarcinoma (RR 1.88, 95% CI 1.37, 2.57), gastric cardia cancer (RR 1.59, 95% CI 1.15, 2.21), hepatocellular carcinoma (RR 1.31, 95% CI 1.13, 1.51), multiple myeloma (RR 1.23, 95% CI 1.15, 1.30), pancreatic cancer (RR 1.17, 95% CI 1.11, 1.24), renal cell cancer (RR 1.22, 95% CI 1.16, 1.28) and thyroid cancer (RR 1.12, 95% CI 1.07, 1.17). In summary, higher body fatness at a young age increases the risks of developing various types of cancer later in life. Prevention of overweight and obesity in children, adolescents and young adults should therefore be emphasized to reverse the obesity epidemic and thereby avoid further increases in the burden of cancer attributed to excess body fatness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epidemiological reports have shown that parity is associated with a risk of developing non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL). However, the findings have been inconsistent. METHODS We searched the EMBASE and PubMed databases for eligible studies up to 10 March 2016. Category and generalized least square regression models were used to perform data analyses. RESULTS In total, five cohort and seven case-control studies were identified. Categorical analyses indicated that parity number has little association with NHL and its subtypes. In dose-risk analyses, there were no relationships between parity and NHL risk (pfor association = 0.064; n = 10). The summarized risk ratio (RR) was 0.97 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.95-1.00; I2 = 57.8%; pheterogeneity = 0.014; Power = 0.79) for each additional live birth increase. Similarly, for B-cell NHL, there was a null association between parity and NHL risk (pfor association = 0.121; n = 5). The combined RR was 0.96 (95% CI = 0.90-1.03; I2 = 63.7%; pheterogeneity = 0.026; Power = 0.71) for each additional live birth. For follicular NHL, there was still a non-significant association identified (pfor association = 0.071; n = 4), the pooled RR was 1.00 (95% CI = 0.95-1.07; I2 = 17.3%; pheterogeneity = 0.305; Power = 0.26) per additional live birth. CONCLUSIONS Our data identified little evidence suggesting that high parity is a protective factor against the development of NHL, including its B-cell and follicular subtypes.

Abstract
Risk of adult lymphoid malignancy is associated with recent adiposity. Some have reported apparent associations with adiposity in childhood or early adulthood, but whether these associations are independent of recent adiposity is unknown. Birth weight, body size at age 10 years, clothes size at age 20 years, and recent body mass index (BMI) were recorded in 745,273 UK women, mean age 60.1 (SD 4.9) at baseline, without prior cancer. They were followed for 11 years, during which time 5,765 lymphoid malignancies occurred. Using Cox regression, a higher risk of lymphoid malignancy was strongly associated with higher recent BMI (RR=1.33, 95%CI 1.17-1.51, for BMI 35+ vs <22.5 kg/m(2)), and this association remained essentially unchanged after adjustment for birth weight and body size at 10. Higher lymphoid malignancy risk was also associated with large size at birth, at age 10, and at age 20 years, but after adjustment for recent BMI, the significance of the associations with large size at birth and at age 10 years was sufficiently reduced that residual confounding by adult BMI could not be excluded; a weak association with large size at 20 years remained (adjusted RR =1.17, 95%CI 1.10-1.24 for large size at age 20 vs. medium or small size). We found no strong evidence of histological specificity in any of these associations. In conclusion, our findings suggest a possible role of adiposity throughout adulthood in the risk of lymphoid malignancy, but the independent contribution of body size at birth and during childhood appears to be small.

Abstract
Research regarding the association between physical activity and the risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is limited and inconsistent, and few studies have investigated whether the intensity and timing of physical activity influence the association. A case-control study of NHL was conducted in British Columbia, Canada, in 2000 to 2004. Data were collected on various NHL risk factors, including moderate-intensity and vigorous-intensity physical activity performed over the lifetime. Logistic regression was used to estimate the association between physical activity and the risk of NHL. This analysis included 818 controls and 749 cases. Lifetime vigorous-intensity physical activity was inversely associated with NHL risk. Participants in the second, third, and fourth quartiles of lifetime vigorous-intensity physical activity had an approximately 25% to 30% lower risk of NHL than those in the lowest quartile [adjusted odds ratios, 0.69 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.52-0.93); 0.68 (95% CI, 0.50-0.92); and 0.75 (95% CI, 0.55-1.01), respectively]. No consistent associations were observed for total or moderate-intensity physical activity. There were no apparent age periods in which physical activity appeared to confer a greater risk reduction. In this study, we found that lifetime vigorous-intensity physical activity was associated with a significantly reduced risk of NHL. Given this finding, more research on physical activity intensity and timing in relation to NHL risk is warranted.

Abstract
Blood donation may influence subsequent NHL development via temporary immune system alterations. To test the hypothesis that frequent blood donation is associated with an increased risk of NHL and its most common histologic subtypes, this study followed 36 576 men in the Health Professionals Follow-up Study (HPFS), who provided information on frequency of blood donation in the past 30 years in 1992. This study confirmed 544 incident cases of NHL through 2010. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to calculate hazards ratios (HR) and 95% CI for the risk of all NHL and major NHL histologic subtypes associated with number of blood donations. In this prospective study, there was no significant evidence of an association between blood donation frequency and incidence of NHL (age-adjusted HR = 1.26, 95% CI = 0.94-1.68, comparing > 20 donations vs 0 donations over 30 years, p for trend = 0.18) or of any major NHL subtypes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Excess adiposity has been associated with lymphomagenesis, possibly mediated by increased cytokine production causing a chronic inflammatory state. The relationship between obesity, cytokine polymorphisms, and selected mature B-cell neoplasms is reported. METHOD Data on 4,979 cases and 4,752 controls from nine American/European studies from the InterLymph consortium (1988-2008) were pooled. For diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), follicular lymphoma (FL), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL), joint associations of body mass index (from self-reported height and weight) and 12 polymorphisms in cytokines IL1A (rs1800587), IL1B (rs16944, rs1143627), IL1RN (rs454078), IL2 (rs2069762), IL6 (rs1800795, rs1800797), IL10 (rs1800890, rs1800896), TNF (rs1800629), LTA (rs909253), and CARD15 (rs2066847) were investigated using unconditional logistic regression. BMI-polymorphism interaction effects were estimated using the relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI). RESULTS Obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m(2)) was associated with DLBCL risk [OR = 1.33; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.02-1.73], as was TNF-308GA+AA (OR = 1.24; 95% CI, 1.07-1.44). Together, being obese and TNF-308GA+AA increased DLBCL risk almost 2-fold relative to those of normal weight and TNF-308GG (OR = 1.93; 95% CI, 1.27-2.94), with a RERI of 0.41 (95% CI, -0.05-0.84; Pinteraction = 0.13). For FL and CLL/SLL, no associations with obesity or TNF-308GA+AA, either singly or jointly, were observed. No evidence of interactions between obesity and the other polymorphisms were detected. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that cytokine polymorphisms do not generally interact with BMI to increase lymphoma risk but obesity and TNF-308GA+AA may interact to increase DLBCL risk. IMPACT Studies using better measures of adiposity are needed to further investigate the interactions between obesity and TNF-308G>A in the pathogenesis of lymphoma.

Abstract
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common form of aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma, accounting for 30-40% of newly diagnosed cases. Obesity is a well-defined risk factor for DLBCL. However, the impact of body mass index (BMI) on DLBCL prognosis is controversial. Recent studies suggest that skeletal muscle wasting (sarcopenia) or loss of fat mass can be detected by computed tomography (CT) images and is useful for predicting the clinical outcome in several types of cancer including DLBCL. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain the differences in DLBCL outcome according to BMI or weight that include tolerance to treatment, inflammatory background and chemotherapy or rituximab metabolism. In this review, we summarize the available literature, addressing the impact and physiopathological relevance of simple anthropometric tools including BMI and tissue distribution measurements. We also discuss their relationship with other nutritional parameters and their potential role in the management of patients with DLBCL.

Abstract
Considerable efforts have been made to elucidate non-Hodgkin lymphoma's (NHL) etiology during the last decades. Some evidence points to an association with reproductive factors, as incidence rates for most NHL subtypes are usually higher in men than in women, and several subtypes express hormonal receptors. Although the evidence is not compelling, some studies show an inverse association with gravidity. Associations with postmenopausal hormone therapy are usually derived from unopposed estrogen use, rather than for the combination of estrogen with progestin, but these findings vary by study design. Inconsistencies in the results are likely due to the complex relationship between reproductive, biological, and sociodemographic factors, as well as to study limitations. Elucidating the role of hormonal factors should provide clues for therapeutic options and public health decisions. We provide an overview of the available evidence on reproductive factors in NHL etiology, underscoring potential sources of discrepancies and bias.
