Oppositional Defiant Disorder Symptoms and Multi-level Family Factors in Chinese Migrant Children: A Network Perspective

Based on the network theory of mental disorders, this study used network analysis to examine the network of ODD symptoms and multilevel family factors and identify the most crucial family factors influencing ODD symptoms in children. A total of 718 Chinese migrant children aged 7-14 years participated in this study. This study measured ODD symptoms, family system-level variables (3 factors), family dyadic-level variables (6 factors), and family individual-level variables (6 factors) with factors selected based on the multilevel family factors theory of ODD symptoms. The results indicated that (1) "annoy" was the center symptom of ODD, (2) "annoy" and "vindictive" was the main bridge connecting the multilevel family factors, and (3) family cohesion at the family system level, parent-child conflict at the family dyadic level, and parental depression at the family individual level were critical central and bridging influencing factors. The findings of this study highlight the critical role of "annoy" and "vindictive" symptoms in the activation of ODD symptom networks in children and provide a basis for future improvements in diagnostic criteria. These potential core and bridge factors might become key intervention targets for childhood ODD.

Dialogical Family Guidance (dfg)-Development and implementation of an intervention for families with a child with neurodevelopmental disorders

Aim

To describe the development and implementation of a Dialogical Family Guidance (DFG) intervention, aimed at families with a child with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD).

Design

The DFG components are presented and the content of a DFG training course. Professionals' experiences after the DFG training were evaluated.

Methods

Dialogical Family Guidance development phases and implementation process are examined. The Revised Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence checklist (SQUIRE 2.0) was used to provide a framework for reporting new knowledge.

Results

The DFG training course seemed to increase possibilities of a more independent role as a nurse to deliver the DFG family intervention. The project showed that the use of dialogue can be difficult for some professionals. Analysis of the questionnaire completed after DFG training reported a high level of satisfaction. DFG training offered a new approach to deliver knowledge and understanding to families using dialogue, including tailored psychoeducation and emotional and practical guidance.

MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF ADOLESCENTS AND THE NURSING CARES: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

ABSTRACT Objective: to systematize the knowledge produced about nursing performance in the face of adolescents' mental health needs. Method: integrative literature review, submitting the problem: what are the mental health needs of adolescents and the nursing care provided? Data collection was performed in the PubMed databases; CINAHL; SciELO; ScienceDirect; LILACS, in the month of April 2018. Were included 30 articles available in Portuguese, English or Spanish with full access and free of charge. The findings were grouped into thematic categories with review/synthesis of knowledge. Results: the sample consisted of articles predominantly in English and published between 1999 and 2018. The main mental health needs of adolescents are related to depression, anxiety, stress, drug use and dependence, eating disorders, among others. Nursing cares include health education, groups, cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal relationships, and activities that involve adolescents, their families, peers and the school environment. It was evidenced that nurses work with different approaches and intervene through the nursing process and physical activity practices, among other tools that are accessible to them. Conclusion: this review allows professionals to formulate new actions that are based on the adolescent's real mental health needs, which are neglected, because they do not attend so much the health services. The need for studies with higher level of scientific evidence is mentioned.
