Novel Mo/Bi2MoO6/Bi3ClO4 heterojunction photocatalyst for ultra-deep desulfurization of thiophene under simulated sunlight irradiation

Photo-induced adsorption-desorption behavior of methylene blue on CA-BMO under visible light irradiation

In this work, the modification of Bi2MoO6 with critic acid (CA-BMO) to achieve enhanced adsorption of methylene blue (MB) solution in dark and desorption under visible light irradiation was reported. The as-prepared materials were synthesized by a hydrothermal method and characterized via SEM, FT-IR, XRD, and XPS techniques. Only 16.5% of 10 mg L-1 MB was removed within 10 min by using 0.5 g L-1 Bi2MoO6, while 92.9% removal of MB could be achieved by using 0.5 g L-1 CA-BMO, which enhanced the adsorption removal by a factor of 4.6. The adsorption capacity for MB was 18.9 mg g-1. Desorption efficiency of MB was only observed in CA-BMO system, and it depends on the wavelength of the light source, pH, and the presence of metal ions. Characterization results suggested that carboxyl groups, which were modified onto the surface of Bi2MoO6, could serve as adsorption sites for MB, and the connections were damaged under light, thus leading to the desorption of MB from the surface of the CA-BMO. This study provides a novel reagent-free desorption strategy for dye recovery without secondary pollution, which facilitates the development and application of Bi-based adsorbent for dye-containing wastewater treatment.

Heteropolyacid Ionic Liquid-Based MCF: An Efficient Heterogeneous Catalyst for Oxidative Desulfurization of Fuel

A new type of catalyst was synthesized by immobilizing heteropolyacid on ionic liquid-modified mesostructured cellular silica foam (denoted as MCF) and applied to the oxidative desulfurization of fuel. The surface morphology and structure of the catalyst were characterized by XRD, TEM, N₂ adsorption-desorption, FT-IR, EDS and XPS analysis. The catalyst exhibited good stability and desulfurization for various sulfur-containing compounds in oxidative desulfurization. Heteropolyacid ionic liquid-based MCF solved the shortage of the amount of ionic liquid and difficult separation in the process of oxidative desulfurization. Meanwhile, MCF had a special three-dimensional structure that was not only highly conducive to mass transfer but also greatly increased catalytic active sites and significantly improved catalytic efficiency. Accordingly, the prepared catalyst of 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium phosphomolybdic acid-based MCF (denoted as [BMIM]₃PMo₁₂O₄₀-based MCF) exhibited high desulfurization activity in an oxidative desulfurization system. The removal of dibenzothiophene could achieve levels of 100% in 90 min. Additionally, four sulfur-containing compounds could be removed completely under mild conditions. Due to the stability of the structure, sulfur removal efficiency still reached 99.8% after the catalyst was recycled six times.

Ce2(MoO4)3 synthesized with oleylamine and oleic acid as additives for photocatalysis: effect of preparation method

Ce₂(MoO₄)₃ was prepared using dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma method, co-precipitation method and hydrothermal method, respectively, with water/ethanol (W/O) as solvent, oleylamine (OAm) and oleic acid (OAc) as additives. Preparation method showed significant influence on the morphological and structural properties, as well as photocatalytic performance. Ce₂(MoO₄)₃ synthesized with DBD plasma (MO-P) was mainly flowerlike nanosheets, which were beneficial to promoting electron transfer and providing more space for catalytic activity. Also, MO-P samples exhibited more oxygen vacancies, which were conducive to the photocatalytic performance. What's more, MO-P showed lower PL intensity and narrow energy gap, which implied a slow photoelectron-hole pair recombination rate and an increased electron transfer rate. The degradation rate of methyl orange (50 mg/L) could achieve 98% within 12 min with 0.5 g/L MO-P. Hydroxyl radicals (·OH) and superoxide radicals (·O₂^-) played a major effect. Plasma synthesis method exhibited potential application prospect in photocatalysts preparation.

CdS Nanoparticles Decorated 1D CeO2 Nanorods for Enhanced Photocatalytic Desulfurization Performance

CdS nanoparticles were constructed onto one-dimensional (1D) CeO2 nanorods by a two-step hydrothermal method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission election microscopy (TEM), Raman spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) and UV-Vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy (DRS) techniques were used to characterize these CdS/CeO2 nanocomposites. It was concluded that when the molar ratio of CdS and CeO2 was 1:1, the nanocomposites exhibited the best photocatalytic desulfurization activity, reaching 92% in 3 h. Meanwhile, transient photocurrent (PT) measurement, photoluminescence (PL) spectra and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurement indicated that the modification of CeO2 nanorods by CdS nanoparticles could significantly inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. In addition, the possible mechanism of photocatalytic oxidation desulfurization of the nanocomposites was proposed. This study may provide an effective CeO2-based photocatalyst for photocatalytic desulfurization applications.
