Abstract
In the present study, a highly selective and sensitive electrochemical sensing platform for the detection of dopamine was developed with CuO nanoparticles embedded in N-doped carbon nanostructure (CuO@NDC). The successfully fabricated nanostructures were characterized by standard instrumentation techniques. The fabricated CuO@NDC nanostructures were used for the development of dopamine electrochemical sensor. The reaction mechanism of a dopamine on the electrode surface is a three-electron three-proton process. The proposed sensor's performance was shown to be superior to several recently reported investigations. Under optimized conditions, the linear equation for detecting dopamine by differential pulse voltammetry is Ipa (μA) = 0.07701 c (μM) − 0.1232 (R2 = 0.996), and the linear range is 5-75 μM. The limit of detection (LOD) and sensitivity were calculated as 0.868 μM and 421.1 μA/μM, respectively. The sensor has simple preparation, low cost, high sensitivity, good stability, and good reproducibility.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease in which the neurotransmitter dopamine (DA) depletes due to the progressive loss of nigrostriatal neurons. Therefore, DA measurement might be a useful diagnostic tool for targeting the early stages of PD, as well as helping to optimize DA replacement therapy. Moreover, DA sensing appears to be a useful analytical tool in complex biological systems in PD studies. To support the feasibility of this concept, this mini-review explores the currently developed graphene-based biosensors dedicated to DA detection. We discuss various graphene modifications designed for high-performance DA sensing electrodes alongside their analytical performances and interference studies, which we listed based on their limit of detection in biological samples. Moreover, graphene-based biosensors for optical DA detection are also presented herein. Regarding clinical relevance, we explored the development trends of graphene-based electrochemical sensing of DA as they relate to point-of-care testing suitable for the site-of-location diagnostics needed for personalized PD management. In this field, the biosensors are developed into smartphone-connected systems for intelligent disease management. However, we highlighted that the focus should be on the clinical utility rather than analytical and technical performance.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA) is an important neurotransmitter, which is created and released from the central nervous system. It plays a crucial role in human activities, like cognition, emotions, and response to anything. Maladjustment of DA in human blood serum results in different neural diseases, like Parkinson's and Schizophrenia. Consequently, researchers have started working on DA detection in blood serum, which is undoubtedly a hot research area. Electrochemical sensing techniques are more promising to detect DA in real samples. However, utilizing conventional electrodes for selective determination of DA encounters numerous problems due to the coexistence of other materials, such as uric acid and ascorbic acid, which have an oxidation potential close to DA. To overcome such problems, researchers have put their focus on the modification of bare electrodes. The aim of this review is to present recent advances in modifications of most used bare electrodes with carbonaceous materials, especially graphene, its derivatives, and carbon nanotubes, for electrochemical detection of DA. A brief discussion about the mechanistic phenomena at the electrode interface has also been included in this review.

Abstract
Ochratoxin A (OTA) primarily obtained by the genera aspergillus and penicillium, is one of the toxic substances for different organs and systems of the human body such as the kidney, liver, neurons and the immune system. Moreover, it is considered to cause tumors and fetal malformation even at a very low concentration. Fast and sensitive assay for detection of OTA at ultralow levels in foods and agricultural products has been an increasing demand. In this study, a new label-free electrochemical biosensor based on three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide/gold nanoparticles/aptamer for OTA detection was constructed. The 3D-rGO/Au NPs nanocomposites were firstly synthesized using a one-pot hydrothermal process under optimized experimental conditions. The 3D-rGO/Au NPs with considerable particular surface area and outstanding electrical conductivity was then coated on a glass carbon electrode to provide tremendous binding sites for -SH modified aptamer via the distinctive Au-S linkage. The presence of OTA was specifically captured by aptamer and resulted in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) signal response accordingly. The constructed impedimetric aptasensor obtained a broad linear response from 1 pg/mL to 10 ng/mL with an LOD of 0.34 pg/mL toward OTA detection, highlighting the excellent sensitivity. Satisfactory reproducibility was also achieved with the relative standard deviation (RSD) of 1.393%. Moreover, the proposed aptasensor obtained a good recovery of OTA detection in red wine samples within the range of 93.14 to 112.75% along with a low LOD of 0.023 ng/mL, indicating its applicability for OTA detection in real samples along with economical, specific, susceptible, fast, easy, and transportable merits.

Abstract
A ternary hybrid material composed of Ni nanoparticles (NPs), TiO2 NPs, and poly(L-lysine) (Ply) was used as a sensing material. It was electrodeposited in situ onto a commercial 433-MHz surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonator to construct a Ni-TiO2-Ply/SAW sensor. The Ni-TiO2-Ply sensing layer fully covered the resonant cavity of the SAW resonator. As the sensing layer completely covers the interdigital transducer and piezoelectric substrate, the sensing area is significantly increased, and the resonator is protected from damage or contamination. To detect the level of dopamine (DA) in serum, the fabrication of the Ni-TiO2-Ply sensing layer, distributions of various components in the sensing layer, and responses of the SAW biosensor to DA were investigated in detail. In addition, an electric field-assisted liquid-phase oxidation technique was developed for loading analytes onto the SAW sensors. After optimizing the pH value and L-lysine content of the sensing layer electrolyte and the pH value of the DA solution, the SAW biosensor responded to DA with a linear concentration range of 1 to 1000 nM, sensitivity of 5.77 MHz nM-1 cm-2, and limit of detection of 0.067 nM. Moreover, the sensor exhibited good selectivity, reproducibility, and stability at ambient temperature.Graphical abstract.

Abstract
This present study describes the synthesis of ultrafine Bi-Sn nanoparticles decorated on carbon aerogels (Bi-Sn NP/CAG) as a nanocomposite for the electrochemical simultaneous determination of dopamine (DA) and clozapine (CLZ). The typical characterization techniques, such as XRD, Raman, BET, FT-IR, TGA, XPS, and FE-SEM/TEM, showed useful insights into the crystal phase and morphology of Bi-Sn NP/CAG. Integrated Bi-Sn NP/CAG built into a cost-effective screen printed carbon electrode (SPCE) offers a high electrochemical surface area (ECSA) compared to unmodified, Bi-Sn, and CAG/SPCEs, such that it favourably allowed the binding of DA and CLZ molecules onto the surface at the Bi-Sn/CAG, which was demonstrated by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry techniques. As a result, the DA and CLZ sensing exhibited low detection limits (DL, 4.6 and 97.6 nM (S/N = 3)), and sensitivity (3.402 and 0.4 μA μM-1 cm-2) over a wide linear range (0.02-97.59 and 0.5-2092 μM), respectively. To go a step further, the Bi-Sn NP/CAG/SPCE was applied for the simultaneous determination of DA and CLZ which featured lower DL (23.1 and 31.3 nM (S/N = 3)), and sensitivity (0.4979 and 0.04 μA μM-1 cm-2) over a wide linear range (2-182 and 10-910 μM), respectively. The selectivity for DA and CLZ in the presence of a 10-fold concentration of their potentially interfering active species was demonstrated. Finally, this sensing methodology enables the rapid electrochemical determination of the amount of DA and CLZ in a rat brain region serum sample with successful recovery outcomes.

Abstract
In recent years, mussel-inspired polydopamine (PDA) based materials have been widely used as stationary phases for open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) because of their various excellent properties. Nevertheless, the traditional synthesis routes of functionalized PDA-based capillary columns usually are time-consuming and limited in aqueous solutions. Herein, we report a facile and rapid route to prepare octadecylamine (ODA) functionalized PDA coated OT-CEC columns in organic solvents via a novel one-step in situ solvothermal-assisted coating strategy. Through this developed solvothermal-assisted approach, the growth rate of ODA/PDA coating was significantly speeded up and their hybrid coating process on the capillary inner surface could be rapidly completed in 60 min. The successful preparation of the solvothermal-assisted ODA/PDA hybrid coating were systematically characterized and confirmed by several methods. The influence of the preparation parameters on the formation of hybrid coating and the separation ability of the ODA/PDA modified columns were systematically explored. Consequently, the high-efficiency baseline separation of four kinds of neutral, acidic and basic analytes were achieved based on the ODA/PDA modified columns. The repeatability of the solvothermal-assisted ODA/PDA coated column was also studied, and the relative standard deviations for intra-day, inter-day and column-to-column were all less than 5%. Additionally, the solvothermal-assisted ODA/PDA modified column exhibited good stability and long lifetime.

Abstract
Mussel-inspired polydopamine (PDA) based materials are attractive as stationary phase for open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) due to their many fascinating properties. However, all of the existing strategies for fabricating PDA based OT-CEC columns are limited in aqueous solutions. Consequently, it is a challenge work to directly immobilize the hydrophobic functional materials onto the inner wall of PDA modified capillary. Herein, by using the organic amine-inducing co-deposition strategy, a novel preparative method was developed for in situ one-pot synthesis of PDA/octadecylamine (ODA) co-deposited coating inside capillary as OT-CEC stationary phase. The formation and morphology of the PDA/ODA co-deposited coating were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscope, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and contact angle measurements. The separation performance of the fabricated PDA/ODA modified columns was validated by the separation of alkylbenzenes and steroids, which could achieve baseline separation with high separation efficiency. Their separation was found to follow the reversed phase chromatographic retention mechanism. The co-deposited column showed good stability and long lifetime. The repeatability of the PDA/ODA co-deposited column was also evaluated, with the relative standard deviations for intra-day and inter-day runs less than 5% and column-to-column runs less than 6%.

Abstract
Single-layer graphene/TPU composite foams with different graphene content were prepared through a thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) process. Multilayer graphene/TPU composite foams were fabricated by bonding single-layer foams together. The arrangement of single-layer graphene/TPU composite foams in different orders could realize a gradient distribution of the graphene to endow the multilayer foams with good impedance matching characteristics. Facile regulation of the effective absorption bandwidth (EB) value and minimum reflection loss (RLmin) have been realized by adjusting the thickness and layer number or altering the combinatorial mode of single-layer foams with different graphene contents to endow these multilayered composite foams with optimal microwave-absorbing (MA) properties. In addition, the mechanism of microwave dissipation by gradient multilayers and porous structures has been elucidated. The EB values of the multilayer foams were all wider than those of their corresponding single-layer foams with the same graphene content and multilayer foams displayed much lower RLmin than single-layer foams. Among all the multilayer foams, 2L graphene/TPU composite foams with a thickness of 5 mm exhibit the widest EB value of 9.9 GHz and the lower RLmin (-36.7 dB) while 5L graphene/TPU composite foams with a thickness of only 2.5 mm show the lowest RLmin of -43.7 dB and wider EB values (5.3 GHz).

Abstract
Engineering the surface properties of a material without affecting its bulk properties is desirable for many applications, but it is often not readily achievable because it requires a complex series of processing steps. This study presents for the first time a simple and straightforward method that can convert regular flat polymer surfaces into various porous composite surfaces. The controlled dissolution of the polymer surface by a dispersion and subsequent melt crystallization allows for the successful embedding of dispersed inorganic or organic particles in the pore walls. The porous surface morphology is not significantly affected by the type of dispersed particle, but the contact and sliding angles and surface wettability are. Both superhydrophobic and oil/water separation surfaces can be conveniently fabricated from flat polymer surfaces. This novel and versatile technique could provide engineering freedom for the future development of various functional materials.

Abstract
Neurotransmitters are endogenous chemical messengers which play an important role in many of the brain functions, abnormal levels being correlated with physical, psychotic and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's disease. Therefore, their sensitive and robust detection is of great clinical significance. Electrochemical methods have been intensively used in the last decades for neurotransmitter detection, outclassing more complicated analytical techniques such as conventional spectrophotometry, chromatography, fluorescence, flow injection, and capillary electrophoresis. In this manuscript, the most successful and promising electrochemical enzyme-free and enzymatic sensors for neurotransmitter detection are reviewed. Focusing on the activity of worldwide researchers mainly during the last ten years (2010-2019), without pretending to be exhaustive, we present an overview of the progress made in sensing strategies during this time. Particular emphasis is placed on nanostructured-based sensors, which show a substantial improvement of the analytical performances. This review also examines the progress made in biosensors for neurotransmitter measurements in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo.

Abstract
The development of novel materials for facile, cost-effective and quick practical application is a demanding research interest in electroanalytical chemistry. Titanium carbide (TiC), as one of the most important transition metal carbides, exhibits good chemical stability and electrical conductivity, and its electrocatalytic activity resembles that of metals, but is much cheaper. In this work, TiC nanoparticle (NP) loaded carbon nanofiber (CNF) films (TCNFs) are synthesized using an electrospinning and carbothermal technique, which facilely maintains their structural integrity with robust adhesion. Uniform TiC NPs are firmly embedded in the surface of CNFs, which integrates the large surface area and unique 3D, porous network structure of CNFs with the good conductivity and excellent electrocatalytic activity of TiC NPs. Simultaneous electrochemical sensing of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) at TCNFs displays excellent peak current signals with well-defined peak potentials. The linear ranges are 0.001-1.5 mM, 0.05-160 μM and 0.001-0.875 mM for AA, DA and UA, and the corresponding detection limits are 0.3 μM, 20 nM and 0.3 μM, respectively. In addition, TCNFs show long-term sensing stability and potential applications in real samples, and behave as good anti-interference agents towards KNO3, ZnSO4, glucose, etc. Most importantly, unlike some common carbon-based electrochemical sensor systems, an adsorption-less response is observed for the test analytes at the TCNF electrode. TCNFs show interesting potential as candidates for the construction of electrochemical sensors.

Abstract
Microsystems play an important role in many biological and environmental applications. The integration of electrical interfaces into such miniaturized systems provides new opportunities for electrochemical sensing where high sensitivity and selectivity towards the analyte are requested. This can be only achieved upon controlled functionalization of the working electrode, a challenge for compact microsystems. In this work, we demonstrate the benefit of electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of reduced graphene oxide/polyethylenimine (rGO/PEI) for the selective modification of a gold (Au) microelectrode in a microsystem comprising a Pt counter and a Ag/AgCl reference electrode. The functionalized microsystem was successfully applied for the sensing of dopamine with a detection limit of 50nM. Additionally, the microsystem exhibited good performance for the detection of dopamine levels in meat samples.

Abstract
We report a simple new approach for green preparation of gallic acid supported reduced graphene oxide encapsulated gold nanoparticles (GA-RGO/AuNPs) via one-pot hydrothermal method. The as-prepared composites were successfully characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction techniques (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and elemental analysis. The GA-RGO/AuNPs modified electrode behaves as a hybrid electrode material for sensitive and selective detection of dopamine (DA) in presence of ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA). The GA-RGO/AuNPs modified electrode displays an excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of DA and exhibits a wide linear response range over the DA concentrations from 0.01-100.3 μM with a detection limit (LOD) of 2.6 nM based on S/N = 3. In addition, the proposed sensor could be applied for the determination of DA in human serum and urine samples for practical analysis.
