Abstract
The introduction of iron ionic sites by metal exchange of defective homometallic nickel pyrazolate frameworks generates non-precious, Earth-abundant, first-row heterometallic Fe/Ni-pyrazolate frameworks. The Fe incorporation at the Ni nodes of the framework allows to control the hydrogen peroxide activation, minimizing its decomposition and O2 liberation, occurring at the homometallic Ni nodes. The generation of Fe-OH reactive oxygen species at the heterometallic Fe/Ni nodes is demonstrated by the higher activity in the proof-of-concept oxidation of 1-phenylethanol to acetophenone in an aqueous medium.

Abstract
The aquasoluble FeIII complexes [Fe(H2 O)3 (L1 )] ⋅ 4H2 O (Fe1) and [Fe(H2 O)3 (L2 )] ⋅ 3H2 O (Fe2), bearing the basic forms of 5-chloro-3-(2-(4,4-dimethyl-2,6-dioxocyclohexylidene)hydrazinyl)-2-hydroxy-benzenesulfonic acid (H3 L1 ) and 3-(2-(2,4-dioxopentan-3-ylidene)hydrazinyl)-2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzenesulfonic acid (H3 L2 ), were incorporated for the first time into amine-functionalized SBA-15 support via an impregnation method. The successful preparation of the composites was confirmed by Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM/EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), elemental analysis, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. The resulting Fe1@aptesSBA-15 and Fe2@aptesSBA-15 composites were tested as the first SBA-15-based heterogeneous catalysts for the conversion of furfuryl alcohol under mild reaction conditions (80 to 100 °C) and with an environmentally friendly oxidant (TBHP, 70 % aq. sol. with 1 : 1 oxidant/substrate molar ratio). The influence of various factors, such as reaction time, amounts of oxidant and catalyst, was investigated. The reaction time can be fairly reduced by adopting a microwave-assisted method allowing it to reach complete conversion after 0.25 h, in the absence of any added solvent or additive. Under these conditions, a vigorous furfuryl alcohol polymerization process occurred, with furfural as a by-product. Recycling studies were carried out for Fe2@aptesSBA-15 and after four consecutive runs, the overall conversion of furfuryl alcohol remained high (≥99 %), without an appreciable change in the obtained yield.

Abstract
A series of phenylsilsesquioxane-benzoate heptacopper complexes 1-3 were synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. Two parallel routes of toluene spontaneous oxidation (into benzyl alcohol and benzoate) assisted the formation of the cagelike structure 1. A unique multi-ligation of copper ions (from (i) silsesquioxane, (ii) benzoate, (iii) benzyl alcohol, (iv) pyridine, (v) dimethyl-formamide and (vi) water ligands) was found in 1. Directed self-assembly using benzoic acid as a reactant afforded complexes 2-3 with the same main structural features as for 1, namely heptanuclear core coordinated by (i) two distorted pentameric cyclic silsesquioxane and (ii) four benzoate ligands, but featuring other solvate surroundings. Complex 3 was evaluated as a catalyst for the oxidation of alkanes to alkyl hydroperoxides and alcohols to ketones with hydrogen peroxide and tert-butyl hydroperoxide, respectively, at 50 °C in acetonitrile. The maximum yield of cyclohexane oxidation products as high as 32% was attained. The oxidation reaction results in a mixture of cyclohexyl hydroperoxide, cyclohexanol, and cyclohexanone. Upon the addition of triphenylphosphine, the cyclohexyl hydroperoxide is completely converted to cyclohexanol. The specific regio- and chemoselectivity in the oxidation of n-heptane and methylcyclohexane, respectively, indicate the involvement of of hydroxyl radicals. Complex 3 exhibits a high activity in the oxidation of alcohols.

Abstract
The present study describes a new feature in the self-assembly of cagelike copperphenylsilsesquioxanes: the strong influence of acetone solvates on cage structure formation. By this simple approach, a series of novel tetra-, hexa-, or nonacoppersilsesquioxanes were isolated and characterized. In addition, several new complexes of Cu4 or Cu6 nuclearity bearing additional nitrogen-based ligands (ethylenediamine, 2,2'-bipyridine, phenanthroline, bathophenanthroline, or neocuproine) were produced. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies established molecular architectures of all of the synthesized products. Several coppersilsesquioxanes represent a novel feature of cagelike metallasilsesquioxane (CLMS) in terms of molecular topology. A Cu4-silsesquioxane complex with ethylenediamine (En) ligands was isolated via the unprecedented self-assembly of a partly condensed framework of silsesquioxane ligands, followed by the formation of a sandwich-like cage. Two prismatic Cu6 complexes represent the different conformers─regular and elliptical hexagonal prisms, "cylinders", determined by the different orientations of the coordinated acetone ligands ("shape-switch effect"). A heterometallic Cu4Na4-sandwich-like derivative represents the first example of a metallasilsesquioxane complex with diacetone alcohol ligands formed in situ due to acetone condensation reaction. As a selected example, the compound [(Ph6Si6O11)2Cu4En2]·(acetone)2 was explored in homogeneous oxidation catalysis. It catalyzes the oxidation of alkanes to alkyl hydroperoxides with hydrogen peroxide and the oxidation of alcohols to ketones with tert-butyl hydroperoxide. Radical species take part in the oxidation of alkanes. Besides, [(Ph6Si6O11)2Cu4En2]·(acetone)2 catalyzes the mild oxidative functionalization of gaseous alkanes (ethane, propane, n-butane, and i-butane). Two different model reactions were investigated: (1) the oxidation of gaseous alkanes with hydrogen peroxide to give a mixture of oxygenates (alcohols, ketones, or aldehydes) and (2) the carboxylation of Cn gaseous alkanes with carbon monoxide, water, and potassium peroxodisulfate to give Cn+1 carboxylic acids (main products), along with the corresponding Cn oxygenates. For these reactions, the effects of acid promoter, reaction time, and substrate scope were explored. As expected for free-radical-type reactions, the alkane reactivity follows the trend C2H6 < C3H8 < n-C4H10 < i-C4H10. The highest total product yields were observed in the carboxylation of i-butane (up to 61% based on i-C4H10). The product yields and catalyst turnover numbers (TONs) are remarkable, given an inertness of gaseous alkanes and very mild reaction conditions applied (low pressures, 50-60 °C temperatures).

Abstract
The review describes articles that provide data on the synthesis and study of the properties of catalysts for the oxidation of alkanes, olefins, and alcohols. These catalysts are polynuclear complexes of iron, copper, osmium, nickel, manganese, cobalt, vanadium. Such complexes for example are: [Fe2(HPTB)(m-OH)(NO3)2](NO3)2·CH3OH·2H2O, where HPTB-¼N,N,N0,N0-tetrakis(2-benzimidazolylmethyl)-2-hydroxo-1,3-diaminopropane; complex [(PhSiO1,5)6]2[CuO]4[NaO0.5]4[dppmO2]2, where dppm-1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane; (2,3-η-1,4-diphenylbut-2-en-1,4-dione)undecacarbonyl triangulotriosmium; phenylsilsesquioxane [(PhSiO1.5)10(CoO)5(NaOH)]; bi- and tri-nuclear oxidovanadium(V) complexes [{VO(OEt)(EtOH)}2(L2)] and [{VO(OMe)(H2O)}3(L3)]·2H2O (L2 = bis(2-hydroxybenzylidene)terephthalohydrazide and L3 = tris(2-hydroxybenzylidene)benzene-1,3,5-tricarbohydrazide); [Mn2L2O3][PF6]2 (L = 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane). For comparison, articles are introduced describing catalysts for the oxidation of alkanes and alcohols with peroxides, which are simple metal salts or mononuclear metal complexes. In many cases, polynuclear complexes exhibit higher activity compared to mononuclear complexes and exhibit increased regioselectivity, for example, in the oxidation of linear alkanes. The review contains a description of some of the mechanisms of catalytic reactions. Additionally presented are articles comparing the rates of oxidation of solvents and substrates under oxidizing conditions for various catalyst structures, which allows researchers to conclude about the nature of the oxidizing species. This review is focused on recent works, as well as review articles and own original studies of the authors.

Abstract
For the first time, herein is reported the use of a magnetic core-shell support for a C-scorpionate metallic complex. The prepared hybrid material, that consists on the C-scorpionate iron(II) complex [FeCl2{κ3-HC(pz)3}] (pz, pyrazolyl) immobilized at magnetic core-shell particles (Fe3O4/TiO2), was tested as catalyst for the oxidation of secondary alcohols using the model substrate 1-phenylethanol. Moreover, the application of alternative energy sources (e.g., ultrasounds, microwaves, mechanical or thermal) for the peroxidative alcohol oxidation using the magnetic heterogenized iron(II) scorpionate led to different/unusual outcomes that are presented and discussed.

Abstract
Nickel(II) complexes with 15-membered (1-5) and 14-membered (6) octaazamacrocyclic ligands derived from 1,2- and 1,3-diketones and S-methylisothiocarbohydrazide were prepared by template synthesis. The compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, IR, UV-vis, 1H NMR spectroscopies, and X-ray diffraction. The complexes contain a low-spin nickel(II) ion in a square-planar coordination environment. The electrochemical behavior of 1-6 was investigated in detail, and the electronic structure of 1e-oxidized and 1e-reduced species was studied by electron paramagnetic resonance, UV-vis-near-IR spectroelectrochemistry, and density functional theory calculations indicating redox noninnocent behavior of the ligands. Compounds 1-6 were tested in the microwave-assisted solvent-free oxidation of cyclohexane by tert-butyl hydroperoxide to produce the industrially significant mixture of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone (i.e., A/K oil). The results showed that the catalytic activity was affected by several factors, namely, reaction time and temperature or amount and type of catalyst. The best values for A/K oil yield (23%, turnover number of 1.1 × 102) were obtained with compound 6 after 2 h of microwave irradiation at 100 °C.

Synthesis and Structure of Copper Complexes of a N6O4 Macrocyclic Ligand and Catalytic Application in Alcohol Oxidation. Catalysts 2019. [DOI: 10.3390/catal9050424] [Citation(s) in RCA: 9] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.8] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/17/2022] Open
Abstract
Reactions between N6O4 macrocyclic 1,4,19,22,25,40-hexaaza-10,13,31,34-tetraoxa-6,14,27,35(1,4)-tetrabenzenacyclopentacontane (L) and several copper salts (viz. trifuoromethane and toluene sulfonates, nitrate, perchlorate, benzoate, and acetate) led to the formation of dinuclear compounds [Cu2(OSO2CF3)2(DMF)2L](SO3CF3)2 (1), [Cu2(p-OSO2C6H4Me)2L(DMF)2](SO3C6H4Me)2 (2), [Cu2(ONO2)2L(DMF)2](NO3)2 (3), [Cu2(OClO3)2(DMF)2L](ClO4)2 (4), [Cu2(OOCPh)2L(H2O)2](O2CPh)2 (5), and [Cu2(OOCMe)4L] (6), which were characterized by IR, elemental analysis and TG-DTA (thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis), as well as by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) spectroscopy, and electrochemical techniques (cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential electrolysis). The molecular structures of compounds 1–6 reveal a considerable conformational flexibility of the ligand L, which allowed its readjustment for the formation of the metal compounds and confirmed the presence of dinuclear endo macrocyclic species. In every case, the L ligand coordinates to each copper cation via three nitrogen atoms, with the remaining coordination positions of the metal square pyramid environment being accomplished by neutral or anionic ligands. The macrocyclic cavities appear to be adequate for the enclosure of a neutral species as proved by compound 6 with 1,4-dioxane. The compounds, in combination with the TEMPO (2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidinyloxyl) radical and in alkaline aqueous solution, act as efficient catalysts in the aerobic oxidation of different alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes (yields up to 99% and TON up 232) after 20 h at 70 °C. In addition, the microwave-assisted solvent-free peroxidative oxidation (by tert-butylhydroperoxide, TBHP) of 1-phenylethanol led to acetophenone yields up to 99% and TOF of 1.1 × 103 after 0.5 h, without any additive.

Abstract
One-dimensional (1D) polynuclear Cu(II) complex (1) derived from (5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-2-hydroxybenzohydrazide (H₂L) is synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, ESI-MS, and single crystal X-ray crystallography. Its catalytic performance towards the solvent-free microwave-assisted peroxidative oxidation of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons under mild conditions is compared with that of dinuclear Cu(II) complexes (2 and 3) of the same ligand, previously reported as antiproliferative agents. Polymer 1 exhibits the highest activity, either for the oxidation of cyclohexane (leading to overall yields, based on the alkane, of up to 39% of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone) or towards the oxidation of toluene (selectively affording benzaldehyde up to a 44% yield), after 2 or 2.5 h of irradiation at 80 or 50 °C, respectively.

Abstract
The search for sustainable catalytic oxidation processes remains a challenge. One process of utmost industrial and economic importance is the selective oxidation of cyclohexane, in the route of nylon-6,6 production, which requires urgent improvement. Herein, Au nanotriangles (Au NTs) were prepared following a three-step (seed preparation, growth and shaping) procedure and applied, for the first time, as catalysts for the selective oxidation of neat cyclohexane to ketone and alcohol (KA) oil (cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone mixture). The Au NTs successfully yield KA oil (up to 14%) under mild conditions (50 °C), using an alternative energy source (microwave irradiation) as reaction promotor.

Abstract
The study of chelating ligands is undoubtedly one of the most significant fields of research in chemistry. The present work is directed to the synthesis of new functionalized derivatives of tripodal C-scorpionate compounds. Tris-2,2,2-(1-pyrazolyl)ethanol, HOCH₂C(pz)₃ (1), one of the most important derivatives of hydrotris(pyrazolyl)methane, was used as a building block for the synthesis of new functionalized C-scorpionates, aiming to expand the scope of this unexplored class of compounds. The first dendritic C-scorpionate was successfully prepared and used in the important industrial catalytic reactions, Sonogashira and Heck C-C cross-couplings.

Abstract
Two new metal-organic compounds {[Cu3(μ3-4-ptz)4(μ2-N3)2(DMF)2](DMF)2}n (1) and {[Cu(4-ptz)2(H2O)2]}n (2) {4-ptz = 5-(4-pyridyl)tetrazolate} with 3D and 2D coordination networks, respectively, have been synthesized while studying the effect of reaction conditions on the coordination modes of 4-pytz by employing the [2 + 3] cycloaddition as a tool for generating in situ the 5-substituted tetrazole ligands from 4-pyridinecarbonitrile and NaN3 in the presence of a copper(ii) salt. The obtained compounds have been structurally characterized and the topological analysis of 1 discloses a topologically unique trinodal 3,5,6-connected 3D network which, upon further simplification, results in a uninodal 8-connected underlying net with the bcu (body centred cubic) topology driven by the [Cu3(μ2-N3)2] cluster nodes and μ3-4-ptz linkers. In contrast, the 2D metal-organic network in 2 has been classified as a uninodal 4-connected underlying net with the sql [Shubnikov tetragonal plane net] topology assembled from the Cu nodes and μ2-4-ptz linkers. The catalytic investigations disclosed that 1 and 2 act as active catalyst precursors towards the microwave-assisted homogeneous oxidation of secondary alcohols (1-phenylethanol, cyclohexanol, 2-hexanol, 3-hexanol, 2-octanol and 3-octanol) with tert-butylhydroperoxide, leading to the yields of the corresponding ketones up to 86% (TOF = 430 h(-1)) and 58% (TOF = 290 h(-1)) in the oxidation of 1-phenylethanol and cyclohexanol, respectively, after 1 h under low power (10 W) microwave irradiation, and in the absence of any added solvent or additive.
