Abstract
To date, few study explored the damage of chronic dietary exposure to the lipophilic pesticide deltamethrin (DM) in aquatic animals, and it remains unclear whether its toxicity and residue levels would be affected by dietary lipid levels. Therefore, the present study aimed to elucidate the interactions between dietary lipid levels and DM levels in the Pacific white shrimp, focusing on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, and intestinal microbiota. DM has excellent insecticidal activity and has been used worldwide. Previous research has shown that environmental DM poses toxicity risks to aquatic animals. Six different diets were formulated to feed shrimp for 6 weeks with two lipid levels (6.96 %, 10.88 %) and three DM levels (0.2 mg·kg-1, 1 mg·kg-1, 5 mg·kg-1), namely LF0.2, LF1, LF5, HF0.2, HF1, HF5, respectively. Each diet was assigned to three net cages with a total of 18 cages (40 shrimp per tank, average weight (0.382±0.001 g), of which 0.2 mg·kg-1, are grouped in environmental DM control groups. The growth of shrimp was reduced as the dietary DM levels increased. When shrimp were fed a diet containing a high dose of DM, a reduction in their antioxidant capacity was also observed. Enzyme activity and gene expression related to lipid metabolism in hepatopancreas and hemolymph indicated a significant interaction between dietary lipid levels and DM in the lipid metabolism of shrimp. The terms of detoxification-related genes (gst, sult, cyp1a1) were upregulated in shrimp fed the high-dose DM. Additionally, the presence of DM in the diet severely harmed the hepatopancreas and intestinal histological morphology. DM in the diet increased the susceptibility of shrimp to pathogens and induced intestine microbiota dysbiosis, disrupting the balance of inter-species interactions. DM was not detected in the muscle and hepatopancreas of the shrimp after six weeks of exposure. In conclusion, the presence of DM in feed reduced the growth performance and antioxidant capacity of shrimp, damaging intestinal health. DM was rapidly metabolized by shrimp.

Abstract
An 8-week feeding trial was performed to evaluate the effects of dietary β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB) supplementation on growth performance and muscle quality of kuruma shrimp (Marsupenaeus japonicas) (initial weight: 2.00 ± 0.01 g) fed a low protein diet. The positive control diet (HP) with 490 g/kg protein and negative control diet (LP) with 440 g/kg protein were formulated. Based on the LP, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 g/kg β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate calcium were supplemented to design the other five diets named as HMB0.25, HMB0.5, HMB1, HMB2 and HMB4, respectively. Results showed that compared with the shrimp fed LP, the HP, HMB1 and HMB2 groups had significantly higher weight gain and specific growth rate, while significantly lower feed conversion ratio (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, intestinal trypsin activity was significantly elevated in the above three groups than that of the LP group. Higher dietary protein level and HMB inclusion upregulated the expressions of target of rapamycin, ribosomal protein S6 kinase, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, and serine/threonine-protein kinase in shrimp muscle, accompanied by the increases in most muscle free amino acids contents. Supplementation of 2 g/kg HMB in a low protein diet improved muscle hardness and water holding capacity of shrimp. Total collagen content in shrimp muscle increased with increasing dietary HMB inclusion. Additionally, dietary inclusion of 2 g/kg HMB significantly elevated myofiber density and sarcomere length, while reduced myofiber diameter. In conclusion, supplementation of 1-2 g/kg HMB in a low protein diet improved the growth performance and muscle quality of kuruma shrimp, which may be ascribed to the increased trypsin activity and activated TOR pathway, as well as elevated muscle collagen content and changed myofiber morphology caused by dietary HMB.

Abstract
An 8-week feeding trial investigated the effect of Fishmeal (FM) replacement by soybean meal (SBM) and poultry by-product meal (PBM) in diets supplemented with DL-Met, MET-MET (AQUAVI®), Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 (ECOBIOL®) and their combinations on growth performance and health of juvenile Litopenaeus vannamei. A total of six experimental diets were formulated according to L. vannamei nutritional requirements. A total of 480 shrimp (0.30 ± 0.04 g) were randomly distributed into 24 tanks (4 repetitions/each diet, 20 shrimp/tank). Shrimp were fed with control diet (CD; 200 g/Kg fishmeal) and five diets with 50% FM replacement supplemented with different methionine sources, probiotic (B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940) and their combinations: D1 (0.13% DL-MET), D2 (0.06% MET-MET), D3 (0.19% MET-MET), D4 (0.13% DL-MET plus 0.10% B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 and D5 (0.06% MET-MET plus 0.10% B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940). Shrimp fed D3 and D5 had significantly higher final, weekly weight gain, and final biomass compared to shrimp fed CD (p < 0.05). Shrimp fed D2 to D5 increased the hepatopancreas epithelial cell height (p < 0.05). Digestive enzymatic activities were significantly increased in shrimp hepatopancreas’ fed D3 (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, shrimp fed D1 had significant downregulation of immune-related genes (p < 0.05). Moreover, shrimp fed D3 and D5 increased the abundance of beneficial prokaryotic microorganisms such as Pseudoalteromonas and Demequina related to carbohydrate metabolism and immune stimulation. Also, shrimp fed D3 and D5 increased the abundance of beneficial eukaryotic microorganism as Aurantiochytrium and Aplanochytrium were related to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) production which plays a role in growth promoting or boosting the immunity of aquatic organisms. Therefore, fishmeal could be partially substituted up to 50% by SBM and PBM in diets supplemented with 0.19% MET-MET (AQUAVI®) or 0.06% MET-MET (AQUAVI®) plus 0.10% B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 (ECOBIOL®) and improve the productive performance, health, and immunity of white shrimp. Further research is necessary to investigate synergistic effects of amino acids and probiotics in farmed shrimp diets, as well as to evaluate how SBM and PBM influence the fatty acid composition of reduced fishmeal diets and shrimp muscle quality. Nevertheless, this information could be interesting to develop low fishmeal feeds for aquaculture without affecting the growth and welfare of aquatic organisms.

Abstract
This study assessed the effect of rice protein meal replacement for fish meal on the growth, nonspecific immunity, and disease resistance on juvenile shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. Six groups of iso-nitrogenous and iso-lipid feeds named FM, R10, R20, R40, R60, and R80 were prepared by replacing 0%, 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% in FM protein with RPM, respectively, and then fed to the shrimps (0.54 ± 0.01 g). An amount of 720 healthy and evenly sized shrimps were allocated to six groups (three replicates per group) and fed four times a day (7:00, 11:00, 17:00 and 21:00) for eight weeks. Results revealed no significant differences in WG, FCR, and SGR of shrimps after replacing FM with 10% RPM (p > 0.05). In the R10 and R20 groups, SOD and T-AOC activities were significantly higher than those in the FM group, whereas the opposite was observed for MDA content (p < 0.05). CAT, ACP, and LZM were all significantly higher in the R10, R20, and R40 groups than in the FM group (p < 0.05). GSH-Px activity in the R10 group was significantly higher than the activity in the FM group (p < 0.05). AKP, PO, TYS, GPT, and GOT activities were significantly higher in the R10 group than in the FM group (p < 0.05). Compared to the FM group, the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3K (eif3k) gene was significantly up-regulated in the R10 group, whereas the penaiedin 3a (pen 3a) and anti-lipopolysaccharide factor (alf) genes were significantly up-regulated in the R10 and R20 groups (p < 0.05). The crustin a (cru a), immune deficiency (imd), and lysozyme (lzm) mRNA levels were significantly higher in the R10, R20, and R40 groups than in the other groups (p < 0.05). The prophenoloxidase (PO) mRNA levels in the R20 group were significantly higher than those in the FM group (p < 0.05). The replacement of 10−40% of FM with RPM improved the gut flora composition of shrimps, increasing beneficial bacteria (Bacteroidetes) abundance and reducing harmful bacteria (Aspergillus and Vibrio) abundance. After the challenge test of Vibrio parahaemolyticus (7 days), the cumulative mortality in the R10 group significantly decreased (p < 0.05). In conclusion, replacement of 10% FM by RPM significantly improved digestibility, protein synthesis, antioxidant capacity, and disease resistance in L. vannamei.

Abstract
β-Glucan could significantly improve the antioxidant capacity of aquatic animals. The effects of different dietary levels (0 (control), 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 or 0.4%) of β-glucan on the growth, survival, antioxidant capacity, immunity, intestinal microbiota and transcriptional responses of Litopenaeus vannamei under low salinity (≤3) were investigated. The dietary growth trial lasted 35 days (initial shrimp 0.26 ± 0.01 g). The results indicated that the growth performance of the 0.1% and 0.2% groups was significantly better than that of the control group. A second-order polynomial regression analysis of growth performance against dietary β-glucan indicated that the optimal dietary β-glucan level was 0.2% of dry matter. The digestive enzyme activity of the hepatopancreas was enhanced with increasing β-glucan levels. The antioxidant and nonspecific immunity capacities of the hepatopancreas were also enhanced in the 0.1% group. The α-diversity index analysis of the intestinal microbiota showed that the intestinal microbial richness of L. vannamei increased in the 0.1% group. The relative abundance of Proteobacteria decreased in the 0.1% group compared with the control group. The transcriptome results indicate that the prebiotic mechanisms of β-glucan include upregulating the expression of nonspecific immune genes and osmoregulation genes and activating KEGG pathways associated with carbohydrate metabolism under low-salinity stress. These results suggested that dietary supplementation with β-glucan markedly increased growth performance and alleviated the negative effects of low-salinity stress by contributing to the activity of biochemical enzymes and enriching carbohydrate metabolism in L. vannamei.

Abstract
Clostridium autoethanogenum meal (CAM) is a novel single-cell protein, which is produced from bacteria using carbon monoxide (CO) as sole carbon source. To evaluate the efficiency of CAM as an alternative for dietary fish meal, a 56-days growth experiment was performed on juvenile turbot (Scophthalmus maximus L.) with initial average weight of 9.13 ± 0.02 g. Six iso-nitrogenous (crude protein, 51.0%) and iso-lipidic (crude lipid, 11.5%) diets were formulated with 0%, 15%, 30%, 45%, 60% and 80% dietary fish meal protein substituted by CAM protein, which were designated as CAM0 (the control group), CAM15, CAM30, CAM45, CAM60 and CAM80, respectively. Results showed that no significant differences were observed in survival rate (over 97.50%) among different dietary treatments (p > 0.05). The specific growth rate (SGR) was not significantly affected when replacement levels of dietary fish meal with CAM were less than 45% (p > 0.05). The feed intake (FI) was significantly linear reduced with increasing dietary CAM (p < 0.05), whereas no significant differences were observed in feed efficiency ratio (FER), protein efficiency ratio (PER) and protein retention (PR) among different dietary treatments (p > 0.05). With increasing dietary CAM, lipid retention (LR) and carcass lipid tended to be increased in both significantly linear and quadratic patterns (p < 0.05). The apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of crude protein and some essential amino acids, including threonine, valine, lysine, histidine and arginine, showed significantly linear increase with increasing dietary CAM (p < 0.05). Furthermore, with the increase of dietary CAM, the gene expression of intestinal peptide and amino acids transporters was first up-regulated and then down-regulated with significantly quadratic pattern (p < 0.05), peaking in fish fed with diets CAM30 or CAM45, which was similar to the expression of genes related protein degradation in muscle. For genes related to protein metabolism in liver and muscle, the expression of mammalian target of rapamycin (mtor) was not significantly affected by dietary CAM, while the general control nonderepressible 2 (gcn2) tended to be first up-regulated and then down-regulated with significantly quadratic pattern (p < 0.05). Apart from that, the lipid metabolism of turbot was also affected by high dietary CAM, evidenced by increased expression of hepatic genes related to lipogenesis as well as reduced expression of genes related to lipid oxidation and lipid transport. In conclusion, CAM can replace up to 45% fish meal protein in diet for juvenile turbot without significantly adverse effects on growth performance. But excessive dietary CAM would result in significant growth reduction, and excessive lipid deposition may also occur in fish fed diets with high levels of CAM.

Abstract
Haematococcus pluvialis can be used as a green additive in aquafeeds due to it contains rich astaxanthin and polyunsaturated fatty acid. In the present study, a newly strain of H. pluvialis GXU-A23 with high concentration of astaxanthin was firstly isolated by a newly culture strategy in our laboratory. In addition, H. pluvialis GXU-A23 was applied in the Litopenaeus vannamei feed for determining whether it has positive effects on the growth performance, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory status, metabolic capacity and mid-intestine morphology of juvenile L. vannamei. Shrimp with 0.63 g approximately initial body weight were fed diets supplemented with/without 50 g/kg H. pluvialis GXU-A23. After 8 weeks feeding intervention, significantly higher growth performance of L. vannamei was obtained in the H. pluvialis GXU-A23 treatment group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). At the same time, L. vannamei fed with H. pluvialis GXU-A23 acquired significantly better antioxidant and anti-inflammatory status than the control group (p < 0.05). In addition, higher RNA expression level of hepatopancreas digestive enzyme, hepatopancreas lipid and glucose metabolic enzymes as well as better mid-intestine morphology were found in the H. pluvialis GXU-A23 treatment group than the control group (p < 0.05). These results indicated that 50 g/kg H. pluvialis GXU-A23 was suitable for the L. vannamei feed, which could improve the growth performance, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory status, metabolic capacity and mid-intestine morphology of juvenile L. vannamei.

Abstract
This study mainly evaluated the low dietary fish-meal (FM) on growth performance, immune competence and metabolomics response of juvenile Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei reared at low salinity (7‰). Five experimental diets with graded levels (25, 20, 15, 10, and 5%) of FM were formulated. Weight gain, feed utilization and survival were decreased with the decreasing FM levels. When dietary FM decreased, glucose, cholesterol, total bile acids, and triglyceride in hemolymph decreased. Fatty acid synthesis was promoted and fatty acid lipolysis was reduced in hepatopancreas of shrimp fed low dietary FM. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress related genes expression in hepatopancreas were down-regulated and in intestine were upregulated by low dietary FM. Inhibitor kappa B kinaseβ expression in intestine increased with the dietary FM levels, while mRNA levels of dorsal in hepatopancreas showed the opposite tendency. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain and transmission electron microscope analysis of intestinal samples indicated that low FM diets induced intestinal morphological damage, ER swollen and chromatin condensation. UPLC-Q/TOF-MS analysis indicated that degree of unsaturation of the fatty acid chains of phospholipids in hemolymph decreased with the decreasing dietary FM levels. Lysophospholipids and bile acids metabolism were disturbed by high levels of FM sparing in diet. These results indicated when dietary FM contents decreased, ER stress of shrimp was induced. The decreased unsaturated degree of phospholipids, decreased contents of lysophospholipids, altered lipid metabolism and ER stress may responsible for the impaired growth performance and health of shrimp fed a low FM diet.

Abstract
The aim of the present experiment was to evaluate the effects of Schizochytrium limacinum supplementation on the immune response, gut microbiota, and health of Penaeus monodon fed a low fish-meal (FM) diet. A diet containing 25% FM was used as a control (Diet A), and three other diets were formulated to contain 15% FM and supplemented with 0, 0.75, and 1.5% S. limacinum (Diet B, C, and D, respectively). The experiment was carried out in quadruplicates (30 shrimp per replicate, average weight 1.01 ± 0.01 g), and the shrimps were fed the test diets to apparent satiation three times daily for 8 weeks. Shrimp fed diet B and D showed lower weight gain than those fed diet A. Supplementation of 0.75% S. limacinum enhanced expression of antioxidative genes (superoxide dismutase and catalase) and immune-response-related genes in hepatopancreas but could not affect the gene expression of immune deficiency in hepatopancreas and Tube in the intestine. A low FM diet induced endoplasmic reticulum swelling of the intestinal epithelial cells, which was alleviated by S. limacinum supplementation. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry was employed to analyze the changes of hemolymph metabolomics, 49 significantly different metabolites were identified, and lysoPCs, deoxyinosine, inosine, and highly unsaturated fatty acids were lower in fish fed with low FM diets. Intestinal microbial diversity was lower in shrimp fed Diet B than those fed the control diet. Dietary supplementation of 0.75% S. limacinum increased intestinal microbial diversity of shrimp and decreased the ratio of pathogenic bacterium (Thalassotalea and Tenacibaculum). These results indicated that supplementing S. limacinum into a low FM diet improves the growth performance, immune response, and intestinal health of P. monodon. The optimum inclusion level of seems to be 0.75% of diet.

Abstract
(1) Background: l-leucine (Leu) plays a positive role in regulating protein turnover in skeletal muscle in mammal. However, the molecular mechanism for the effects of Leu on muscle growth and protein deposition is not clearly demonstrated in fish. This study investigated the effects of dietary Leu on growth performance and muscle growth, protein synthesis, and degradation-related signaling pathways of hybrid catfish (Pelteobagrus vachelli♀ × Leiocassis longirostris♂). (2) Methods: A total of 630 hybrid catfish (23.19 ± 0.20 g) were fed 6 different experimental diets containing graded levels of Leu at 10.0 (control), 15.0, 20.0, 25.0, 30.0, 35.0, and 40.0 g Leu kg-1 for 8 weeks. (3) Results: Results showed that dietary Leu increased percent weight gain (PWG), specific growth rate (SGR), FI (feed intake), feed efficiency (FE), protein efficiency ratio (PER), muscle fibers diameter, and muscle fibers density; up-regulated insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), insulin-like growth factor I receptor (IGF-IR), proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), myogenic regulation factors (MyoD, Myf5, MyoG, and Mrf4), and MyHC mRNA levels; increased muscle protein synthesis via regulating the AKT/TOR signaling pathway; and attenuated protein degradation via regulating the AKT/FOXO3a signaling pathway. (4) Conclusions: These results suggest that Leu has potential role to improve muscle growth and protein deposition in fish, which might be due to the regulation of IGF mRNA expression, muscle growth related gene, and protein synthesis and degradation-related signaling pathways. Based on the broken-line model, the Leu requirement of hybrid catfish (23.19-54.55 g) for PWG was estimated to be 28.10 g kg-1 of the diet (73.04 g kg-1 of dietary protein). These results will improve our understanding of the mechanisms responsible for muscle growth and protein deposition effects of Leu in fish.

Abstract
Recently, ecological and economic issues have affected fish meal (FM) supply, the main source of protein for shrimp. This triggered a search for alternative dietary protein sources for shrimp production. We studied the consequences of replacing FM with a defatted insect meal, ŸnMealTM (YM), comprised of yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor). Growth and immune parameters of juvenile Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannanmei) were compared after an eight-week feeding trial. Shrimp were kept in aquaria with densities of 60 and 40 shrimp/m2 and fed one of five diets in which a proportion of FM was replaced by YM. All diets were isoproteic, isoenergetic, and balanced in lysine and methionine. After the feeding trial, shrimp were challenged with pathogenic bacteria (Vibrio parahaemolyticus). Growth and feed conversion parameters improved when YM was included in shrimp diets; with the highest weight gain and best food conversion ratio (FCR) achieved when 50% of FM was replaced by YM versus the control diet that contained no YM (initial weight: 1.60 g/shrimp; growth: 5.27 vs. 3.94 g/shrimp; FCR 1.20 vs. 1.59). In challenged shrimp, mortality rates were significantly less among groups that received YM, with a 76.9% lower mortality rate in the 50% FM replacement group versus the control.
