Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between dietary flavonoids and the prevalence of PD. METHODS We used data from the 2007-2010 and 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Dietary flavonoid intake was assessed through a two-day, 24-hour dietary recall method, and PD diagnosis was ascertained by the presence of 'Anti-Parkinson agents' among the reported prescription medications. Logistic regression, subgroup, and restricted cubic spline (RCS) models were employed to analyze the connection between dietary flavonoids and PD prevalence. RESULTS Our study revealed a correlation between the consumption of dietary total flavonoids, flavan-3-ols, and flavonols, and PD risk. Subgroup analysis indicated a negative correlation of dietary flavan-3-ols and total flavonoids with PD risk only among non-obese participants. Furthermore, our analysis using RCS demonstrated a nonlinear association between dietary flavonoids, flavan-3-ols, flavonols, and PD prevalence. We found that the optimal intake of total flavonoids, flavan-3-ols and flavonols wase 403.65 mg/day,346 mg/day and 26.74 mg/day, respectively. Above these thresholds, the risk of developing PD is elevated. CONCLUSIONS Our study highlights a significant association between moderate dietary intake of total flavonoids, flavan-3-ols, and flavonols, and a reduced risk of PD. Our work may provide new therapeutic ideas for the prevention and treatment of PD and provide dietary flavonoid intake recommendations for PD patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Environmental exposure to toxic brominated flame retardants (BFRs) has been confirmed to have detrimental effects on human health. The impact of serum BFRs on hyperlipidemia risk has not been sufficiently examined. Our objective is to identify both the individual and combined effects of serum BFRs on hyperlipidemia and to further investigate the most influential chemicals. METHODS We included 7,009 individuals with complete details on 9 types of serum BFRs, hyperlipidemia, and other covariates from the NHANES in 2007-2016. Multivariate logistic regression was conducted to evaluate the individual impact of BFRs exposure on hyperlipidemia risk. We assessed the cumulative effect of BFRs on hyperlipidemia risk through weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression, quantile g-computation (QGC), and Bayesian kernel machine regression models. RESULTS PBDE 28, PBDE 47, PBDE 85, PBDE 99, PBDE 100, PBDE 154, PBDE 209, and PBB153 were found to be positively associated with hyperlipidemia risk. The results of WQS and QGC revealed consistent positive correlation. PBDE209 emerged as the most significant chemicals exerting influence. The restricted cubic splines regression further identified significant dose-response relationship. CONCLUSION Exposure to individual and combined serum BFRs has been associated with an increased risk of hyperlipidemia. The causal relationship still requires confirmation through large-scale cohort studies.

Abstract
Objected: Parkinson's disease (PD) is an important cause of neurological dysfunction, and the aim of this study was to explore whether neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), systemic inflammatory response (SIRI), and systemic immune inflammation (SII) are associated with the risk of developing PD. Based on this, we may identify people at high risk for PD and intervene early. Method: Our study included 31,480 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2001 and 2018. Basic information and inflammation-related indicators were obtained by questionnaires and laboratory tests, respectively. NLR, PLR, LMR, SIRI, SII, and PD risk were analyzed using weighted logistic regression models. Results: There were 261 and 31,219 in the PD and non-PD groups, respectively, and the prevalence of PD was 0.83%. Separate analyses of NLR and PLR were conducted after fully adjusting for confounding factors. According to our analysis, there was an increased risk of PD for both NLR and PLR in the higher level group (Q4) as compared with the lower level group (Q1) (OR = 1.83 and 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.09-3.07, and OR = 1.92 and 95% CI = 1.20-3.08). However, we did not find similar relationships in LMR, SIRI, and SII. Conclusions: There was a significant association between elevated levels of NLR, PLR, and PD risk, while LMR, SIRI, and SII were not statistically significant. It suggests that NLR or PLR could be used to screen people at risk of PD at an early stage. It is essential to conduct more large-scale prospective studies to investigate the role that NLR and PLR play in PD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic progressive neurodegenerative disease, and the exact etiology of PD has not been fully elucidated. Changes in dietary patterns play an important role in the onset and progression of PD. However, the association between specific dietary factors and PD remains unclear. METHODS A total of 14,309 subjects from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (2007-2016) were included. Logistic regression was used to analyze the association between 34 nutrients and PD. The regression model was adjusted for potential confounders and effect modifiers including age, gender, race, education, hypertension, and stroke. RESULTS The data showed negative associations of the intake of protein (0.99 (0.98, 1.00), p = 0.018), fiber (0.96 (0.93, 0.99), p = 0.003), vitamin E (0.91 (0.86, 0.97), p = 0.005), copper (0.55 (0.36, 0.86), p = 0.009) with PD. Alpha carotene (p = 0.042), beta-carotene (p = 0.006), phosphorus (p = 0.018), magnesium (p = 0.002), sodium (p = 0.035), potassium (p = 0.001) had a potential negative correlation with PD. The intake of carbohydrate, sugars, fat, cholesterol, vitamin A, beta-cryptoxanthin, lycopene, lutein zeaxanthin, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, niacin, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin K, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, caffeine, theobromine, alcohol was not associated with PD (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Some specific dietary elements are associated with PD, and supplementation of dietary elements may have potentially beneficial effects. However, the observed associations between dietary factors and PD may be influenced by changes in diet resulting from the disease itself, rather than diet influencing PD risk. Further longitudinal studies are needed to establish causal relationships and directionality.

Abstract
Background Higher intake of antioxidants is associated with reduced risk of various chronic diseases. However, the relationship between composite dietary antioxidants and frailty has not been characterized, especially in neurodegenerative conditions like Parkinson's disease (PD) where frailty is highly prevalent. This study aimed to investigate the association between composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI), a composite score reflecting antioxidant vitamin and mineral intakes, and frailty risk in the general United States (US) population and PD patients. Methods Data from 21,354 participants ≥40 years in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003-2018 represented the general population sample, while 268 PD patients were analyzed separately. Frailty was defined using a validated index. Weighted logistic regression and restricted cubic splines (RCS) examined overall and nonlinear CDAI-frailty associations, adjusting for sociodemographics, lifestyle factors, and comorbidities. Results In the general population, each unit increase in CDAI was associated with a 3.7% lower likelihood of frailty after full adjustments. Vitamin A, C, E, selenium and carotenoids exhibited J-shaped relationships where frailty risk decreased below intake thresholds of 1093.04 μg, 161.53 mg, 13.66 mg, 109.99 μg, and 5057.50 μg, respectively. In contrast, the CDAI- frailty inverse association was weaker among PD patients and only vitamin C (threshold 52.45 mg) and zinc (9.35 mg) showed nonlinear links. Conclusion Higher dietary antioxidant intake was associated with lower frailty prevalence in the general US population, with vitamins A, C, E, selenium, and carotenoids exhibiting nonlinear J-shaped relationships. In contrast, these associations were weaker and less consistent among PD patients, with only vitamins C and zinc showing nonlinear correlations. These findings highlight population-specific differences in the role of dietary antioxidants in frailty and suggest the need for personalized nutritional strategies in PD frailty management.

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine whether magnesium (Mg) depletion score (MDS) and dietary Mg intake are associated in adults with the risk of developing Parkinson's disease (PD). In this study, we analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), which included 20,010 adults aged over 40 years old. To evaluate the linear association between PD and dietary intake of Mg or MDS, we conducted weighted logistic regression for univariate analysis and multivariate linear regression models. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated using logistic regression models. A restricted cubic spline (RCS) was drawn to visualize the nonlinear relationship between MDS/dietary Mg intake and PD. In addition, we examined the variations in the relationship between MDS and PD across different confounding factors of the association using subgroup analysis. There were 240 PD cases (1.2%), and 19770 non-PD were included in the study. We found that a higher MDS was associated with an increased risk of PD after adjusting for covariates (OR per 1-unit increase, 1.47; 95% CI, 1.16-1.86). There is insufficient evidence to support a significant statistical association between Mg intake and the risk of PD. According to nonlinear regression, high MDS was associated with higher odds of PD and lower odds of PD above 250 mg/day intake of Mg. It has been shown that Mg bioavailability may be negatively associated with PD as measured by MDS. MDS is a potential method for screening the population with PD. Maintaining adequate Mg status may be important for PD prevention.

Abstract
Background and purpose This study explores the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels and mortality among Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, providing evidence for the potential benefits of vitamin D (VD) supplementation. Methods PD patients were collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database from 1999 to 2020. These patients were categorized based on their serum 25(OH)D levels: deficiency, insufficiency, and sufficiency. We compared demographic information and analyzed mortality data from the National Death Index. A restricted cubic spline model assessed the nonlinear association between 25(OH)D levels and mortality, complemented by multivariable Cox regression analysis. Consistency of results was checked through subgroup analysis. Results The study included 364 PD patients: 87 (23.9%) with VD deficiency, 121 (33.2%) with insufficiency, and 156 (42.9%) with sufficiency. Demographically, 46.4% were male, and 56% were over 65 years. The deficiency group predominantly consisted of Mexican Americans (53.1%), had lower income levels, a higher unmarried rate, and increased liver disease incidence. The analysis showed a U-shaped curve between 25(OH)D levels and mortality risk, with the lowest risk at 78.68 nmol/L (p-non-linear = 0.007, p-overall = 0.008). Kaplan-Meier analysis found the highest survival rates in patients with 25(OH)D levels between 75-100 nmol/L (p = 0.039). Compared to this group, patients with levels below 50 nmol/L had a 3.52-fold increased mortality risk (95% CI = 1.58-7.86, p = 0.002), and those above 100 nmol/L had a 2.92-fold increase (95% CI = 1.06-8.05, p = 0.038). Age-specific subgroup analysis (p = 0.009) revealed that both very low (<50 nmol/L) and high (>100 nmol/L) levels increased mortality risk in patients under 65, while levels below 75 nmol/L raised mortality risk in older patients. Conclusion Serum 25(OH)D levels are nonlinearly linked to mortality in PD patients, with optimal survival rates occurring at 75-100 nmol/L. Deviations from this range increase the risk of death.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases and involves various pathogenic mechanisms, including oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. Niacin, an important cofactor in mitochondrial energy metabolism, may play a key role in the pathogenesis of PD. An in-depth exploration of the relationship between niacin and mitochondrial energy metabolism may provide new targets for the treatment of PD. The present study was designed to examine the association between dietary niacin intake and the risk of PD in US adults. Data from adults aged 40 years and older collected during cycles of the United States (US) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 to 2018 were used. A multiple logistic regression model was used to analyze the relationship between dietary niacin intake and the risk of PD. Further linear tests using restricted cubic splines (RCS) were performed to explore the shape of the dose-response relationship. Subgroup stratification and interaction analyses were conducted according to years of education, marital status, smoking, and hypertension to evaluate the stability of the association between different subgroups. A total of 20,211 participants were included in this study, of which 192 were diagnosed with PD. In the fully adjusted multiple logistic regression model, dietary niacin intake was negatively associated with the risk of PD (OR: 0.77, 95%CI: 0.6-0.99; p = 0.042). In the RCS linear test, the occurrence of PD was negatively correlated with dietary niacin intake (nonlinearity: p = 0.232). In stratified analyses, dietary niacin intake was more strongly associated with PD and acted as an important protective factor in patients with fewer years of education (OR: 0.35, 95%CI: 0.13-0.93), married or cohabitating (OR: 0.71, 95%CI: 0.5-0.99), taking dietary supplements (OR: 0.6, 95%CI: 0.37 0.97), non-smokers (OR: 0.57, 95%CI: 0.39-0.85), those with hypertension (OR: 0.63, 95%CI: 0.63-0.95), coronary artery disease (OR: 0.77, 95%CI: 0.6-1), and stroke (OR: 0.75, 95%CI: 0.88-0.98), but the interaction was not statistically significant in all subgroups. Dietary niacin intake was inversely associated with PD risk in US adults, with a 23% reduction in risk for each 10 mg increase in niacin intake.

Abstract
2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP), 2,5-DCP, 2,4,5-trichlorophenol (2,4,5-TCP), 2,4,6-TCP, and ortho-phenylphenol (OPP) are widely present in the environment. However, their associations with risk and prognosis of diabetes and prediabetes remains unclear. We investigated the associations of these five phenols with the risk of diabetes and prediabetes, and with all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, in adults with diabetes or prediabetes (n=6419). Information on diabetes and prediabetes indicators, and mortality data was collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Logistic and Cox regression models were used to explore the associations of the five phenols with risk and prognosis of diabetes and prediabetes. Participants in the highest urinary 2,4-DCP and 2,5-DCP tertiles had higher odds of diabetes [adjusted odds ratio (aOR), 1.34, 95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.10, 1.62; aOR, 1.29, 95 % CI: 1.07, 1.56, respectively] than those in the lowest tertiles. Participants with urinary OPP concentrations above the limit of detection (LOD), but below median had an aOR of 1.25 (95 % CI: 1.08, 1.46) for prediabetes compared to those with concentrations below the LOD. In adults with diabetes, the highest 2,4-DCP and 2,5-DCP tertiles were associated with all-cause mortality [adjusted hazard ratio (aHR), 1.49; 95 % CI: 1.08, 2.06; aHR, 1.49; 95 % CI: 1.08, 2.05, respectively] and CVD mortality (aHR, 2.58; 95 % CI: 1.33, 4.97; aHR, 1.96; 95 % CI: 1.06, 3.60, respectively) compared with the lowest tertiles. Compared with 2,4,5-TCP concentrations below the LOD, those above median were associated with all-cause mortality (aHR: 1.75; 95 % CI: 1.24, 2.48) and CVD mortality (aHR: 2.34; 95 % CI: 1.19, 4.63) in adults with prediabetes. Furthermore, the associations between these phenols and mortality were strengthened in some subgroups. Environmental exposure to 2,4-DCP, 2,5-DCP, 2,4,5-TCP, and OPP increases the risk or adverse prognosis of diabetes or prediabetes in adults in the US. Further studies are required to confirm these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parkinson's disease (PD) is a slowly progressive neurodegenerating disease that may eventually lead to disabling condition and pose a threat to the health of aging populations. This study aimed to explore the association of two potential risk factors, selenium and cadmium, with the prognosis of Parkinson's disease as well as their interaction effect. METHODS Data were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2006 to 2015-2016 and National Death Index (NDI). Participants were classified as Parkinson's patients by self-reported anti-Parkinson medications usage. Cox regression models and restricted cubic spline models were applied to evaluate the association between PD mortality and selenium intake level as well as blood cadmium level. Subgroup analysis was also conducted to explore the interaction between them. RESULTS A total of 184 individuals were included. In full adjusted cox regression model (adjusted for age, gender, race, hypertension, pesticide exposure, smoking status and caffeine intake), compared with participants with low selenium intake, those with normal selenium intake level were significantly associated with less risk of death (95%CI: 0.18-0.76, P = 0.005) while no significant association was found between low selenium intake group and high selenium group (95%CI: 0.16-1.20, P = 0.112). Restricted cubic spline model indicated a nonlinear relationship between selenium intake and PD mortality (P for nonlinearity = 0.050). The association between PD mortality and blood cadmium level was not significant (95%CI: 0.19-5.57, P = 0.112). However, the interaction term of selenium intake and blood cadmium showed significance in the cox model (P for interaction = 0.048). Subgroup analysis showed that the significant protective effect of selenium intake existed in populations with high blood cadmium but not in populations with low blood cadmium. CONCLUSION Moderate increase of selenium intake had a protective effect on PD mortality especially in high blood cadmium populations.

Abstract
Neurodegenerative diseases are increasing in prevalence and place a significant burden on society. The causes are multifactorial and complex, and increasing evidence suggests a dynamic interplay between genes and the environment, emphasizing the importance of identifying and understanding the role of lifelong exposures, known as the exposome, on the nervous system. This review provides an overview of recent advances toward defining neurodegenerative disease exposomes, focusing on Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Alzheimer's disease. We present the current state of the field based on emerging data, elaborate on key themes and potential mechanisms, and conclude with limitations and future directions. ANN NEUROL 2024;95:635-652.

Abstract
Copper is an essential trace element for the human body. The epidemiological evidence for the association of dietary intake of copper with the risk of Parkinson's disease (PD) is limited. We conducted an evaluation of the cross-sectional data gathered from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys spanning from 2007 to 2018, which comprised a total of 17,948 participants. To discern the distinct characteristics of the participants, we performed a univariate analysis and utilized a 1:2 ratio propensity score matching method to minimize the effects of selection bias. We employed weighted univariate as well as three multivariate logistic regression models both prior to and following matching, with the aim of examining the association between dietary copper intake and PD risk. Finally, we used the restricted cubic spline (RCS) methodology in order to investigate possible non-linear relationships. Furthermore, subgroup analysis was undertaken to elicit further understanding concerning the association between copper intake and PD. A negative correlation resulted between dietary copper intake and PD risk in both univariate and multivariate logistic regression models, prior to and following matching. Our findings demonstrate that there is a nonlinear, dose-dependent relationship between copper intake and PD, according to our RCS analysis. In subgroup analysis, copper intake was identified as an important protective factor for individuals who were non-Hispanic White, unmarried, and had completed higher education. Dietary copper intake was associated with the risk of PD. Supplementation of dietary copper may have potentially beneficial effects.

Objective Current evidence on the association between dietary vitamin E intake and the risk of Parkinson's disease (PD) is limited. The aim of the study was to explore the association of dietary vitamin E intake with PD in the United States among adults over 40 years. A total of the sample of 13,340 participants were included. Results According to the weighted univariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis, vitamin E intake was inversely associated with the risk of PD before and after matching. The results of RCS analysis revealed no non-linear inverse relationship between vitamin E intake and PD before and after matching. The subgroup analysis showed that age may influence the negative association between vitamin E and PD (P < 0.05 for interaction). Conclusion Among participants over 40 years of age, vitamin E intake was negatively associated with the risk of PD. Our data may support the supplementation of vitamin E to be used as an intervention strategy for the occurrence of PD.

Abstract
Dioxins and dioxin-like compounds (DLCs) are common pollutants hazardous to human health. We applied 12 dioxins and DLCs data of 1851 participants (including 484 arthritis patients) from National Health Examination Survey (NHANES) 2001-2004 and quadrupled them into rank variables. Multivariate logistic regression, weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression, and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models were used to explore the relationship between individual or mixed exposure to the pollutants and arthritis after adjusting for multiple covariates. In multivariable logistic regression with an individual dioxin or DLC, almost every chemical was significantly positively associated with arthritis, except PCB66 (polychlorinated biphenyl 66) and 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptachlorodibenzofuran (hpcdf). The WQS model indicated that the combined exposure to the 12 dioxins and DLCs was positively linked to arthritis (OR: 1.884, 95% CI: 1.514-2.346), with PCB156 (weighted 0.281) making the greatest contribution. A positive trend between combined exposure and arthritis was observed in the BKMR model, with a posterior inclusion probability (PIP) of 0.987 for PCB156, which was also higher than the other contaminants.

Abstract
Chlorophenols are widespread environmental organic pollutants with harmful effects on human beings. Although relationships between chlorophenols and various dysfunctions/diseases have been reported, the contribution of chlorophenols exposure to mortalities is underdetermined. In this cohort study, we included 4 types of urinary chlorophenols, aiming to estimate associations of chlorophenols exposure with all-cause and cause-specific mortalities. Urinary chlorophenols were examined at baseline of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003-2010, and adjusted for the urinary creatinine level. Associations between chlorophenols and mortalities were estimated using COX regression analyses, results were shown as hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). By dividing participants into four subgroups based on quartiles of urinary levels of chlorophenols, associations between mortalities and categorical variables of chlorophenols were estimated. Furthermore, the quantile g-computation analysis was used to estimate the joint effects of 4 chlorophenols on mortalities. Among 5817 adults (2863 men), 1034 were deceased during the follow-up. After adjusted for confounders, 2,4,5-trichlorophenol (2,4,5-TCP) was found to be positively associated with both all-cause (HR = 1.46; 95% CI: 1.16, 1.84) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortalities (HR = 1.60; 95% CI: 1.00, 2.55). Compared to the subgroup of the lowest level of chlorophenols, participants in subgroups of higher 2,4,5-TCP levels showed higher risk of all-cause mortality (P-value for trend = 0.003). For CVD mortality, HRs in subgroups of higher levels of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) were statistically significant (P-values for trend were 0.017 for 2,4-DCP and 0.049 for 2,4,6-TCP). The HRs (95% CI) of joint effects of 4 chlorophenols were 1.11 (1.01, 1.21) and 1.32 (1.10, 1.57) for all-cause and CVD-specific mortalities, and 2,4,5-TCP showed the highest weight in joint effects. All of these findings implied that among 4 urinary chlorophenols we included, 2,4,5-TCP might be a sensitive one in associations with mortalities among general populations.

Abstract
Glyphosate (GLY) is a widely used herbicide with potential adverse effects on public health. However, the current epidemiological evidence is limited. This study aimed to investigate the potential associations between exposure to GLY and multiple health outcomes. The data on urine GLY concentration and nine health outcomes, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hypertension, cardiovascular disease (CVD), obesity, chronic kidney disease (CKD), hepatic steatosis, cancers, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and neurodegenerative diseases (NGDs), were extracted from NHANES (2013-2016). The associations between GLY exposure and each health outcome were estimated using reverse-scale Cox regression and logistic regression. Furthermore, mediation analysis was conducted to identify potential mediators in the significant associations. The dose-response relationships between GLY exposure with health outcomes and potential mediators were analyzed using restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression. The findings of the study revealed that individuals with higher urinary concentrations of GLY had a higher likelihood of having T2DM, hypertension, CVD and obesity (p < 0.001, p = 0.005, p < 0.001 and p = 0.005, respectively). In the reverse-scale Cox regression, a notable association was solely discerned between exposure to GLY and the risk of T2DM (adjusted HR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.10, 1.36). Consistent outcomes were also obtained via logistic regression analysis, wherein the adjusted OR and 95% CI for T2DM were determined to be 1.30 (1.12, 1.52). Moreover, the present investigation identified serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) as a mediator in this association, with a mediating effect of 7.14% (p = 0.040). This mediating effect was further substantiated by RCS regression, wherein significant dose-response associations were observed between GLY exposure and an increased risk of T2DM (p = 0.002) and reduced levels of HDL (p = 0.001). Collectively, these findings imply an association between GLY exposure and an increased risk of T2DM in the general adult population.

Abstract
Objected To explore the association between Parkinson's disease (PD) and dietary inflammatory index (DII) scores in adults over 40 years old in the US. Method Data were collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 2003 to 2018. A total of 21,994 participants were included in the study. A weighted univariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the association between the DII and PD, in which continuous variables or categorical variables grouped by tertiles was used. The relationship between DII and PD has been further investigated using propensity score matching (PSM) and a subgroup analysis stratified based on DII and PD characteristics. Moreover, restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis was conducted to examine whether there was a nonlinear association between DII and PD. Results A total of 21,994 participants were obtained for statistical analysis, made up of 263 patients with PD and 21,731 participants without PD. Univariate and multivariable logistics regression analysis showed DII to be positively associated with PD before and after matching. Subgroup analysis revealed a statistical difference in non-Hispanic whites, but RCS analysis suggested that there was no nonlinear relationship between the DII and PD. Conclusion For participants over 40 years of age, higher DII scores were positively correlated with PD. In addition, these results support the ability of diet to be used as an intervention strategy for managing PD.
