Abstract
Hydroquinone (HQ), resorcinol (RS), m-aminophenol (m-AMP) and p-phenylenediamine (p-PPD) are aromatic compounds which are generally used in hair dyes to provide different colours to hair. In European Union the concentrations of HQ, RS, m-AMP and p-PPD is regulated in hair dyes and other cosmetic products by EU commission regulation EU/2019/831. This legislation is generally exercised because all these compounds are toxic and may cause severe allergies when used regularly. However in India no such regulations exist to monitor these toxic compounds in hair dyes therefore in this study a simple, rapid, economical and ecofriendly micellar liquid chromatographic (MLC) technique has been developed which can monitor all the selected toxic compounds simultaneously. HQ and RS are positional isomers and are difficult to be separated by HPLC whereas with the developed MLC method it was well separated and detected. The developed MLC technique has been applied to detect and quantify selected analytes in oxidative and non-oxidative hair dyes and swab samples from the scalp. The simultaneous separation of selected analytes was performed in mobile phase 0.09 M SDS, 0.01 M NaH2PO4-2% v/v 1-butanol at pH 7 running through C18 column under isocratic mode at 1 mL/min. flow rate. All the analytes were eluted within 6 min. The present method has been validated following the EURCHEM Guideline, 2014 in terms of calibration range (0.08-15 µg/mL), limit of detection (0.01-0.09 µg/mL), limit of quantification (0.08-0.35 µg/mL), accuracy (<5.6%), precision (91-105%) and robustness (<5.8%). The selected compounds in hair dye formulation were found in the range of 0.06-12.2 µg/mL (when diluted 25 times). Hair dyes persistence study was conducted up to 10 days from the day of application on the scalp, suggesting that the dyes were not completely washed off and were retained on the scalp for more than one week. SEM analysis of dyed hair revealed that hair are severely damaged due to use of dyes. The advantage of the developed method is that it could easily be adopted by quality control and cosmetic laboratories for quality control and check for the simultaneous separation of positional isomers together with two other aromatic compounds.

Abstract
RATIONALE Carcinogenic o-methylaniline is one of the banned aromatic amines in azo dyes, but it is very difficult to distinguish it from its noncarcinogenic isomers due to their identical retention time on chromatography and similar mass spectra. METHODS Imidization of the isomeric methylanilines was carried out by treatment with benzaldehyde under mild conditions. The formed derivatives were analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Theoretical calculations were carried out on the Gaussian 03 program by using the density functional theory method at the B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) level. RESULTS Imidization of methylanilines occurred easily and gave rise to the corresponding N-methylbenzylidene benzenamines. The isomeric derivatives were completely separated by GC, and thus the three isomeric methylanilines could be determined simultaneously. Due to the ortho effect, the derivative from o-methylaniline has a characteristic fragment ion at m/z 118 with a stable bicyclic structure, and it could be easily differentiated from the meta- and para-isomers in electron ionization mass spectrometry. CONCLUSIONS These results provided a promising solution for simultaneous determination of isomeric methylanilines.

Abstract
The chromatographic separation of several isomeric anilines is a challenging issue. Herein, a simple method for the simultaneous determination of four groups of isomeric primary aromatic amines, including chloroanilines, methylanilines, methoxylanilines, and dimethylanilines, was presented. In this method, all of the 15 primary aromatic amines were easily transformed into the corresponding imine derivative by treatment with benzaldehyde under mild conditions. The formed isomeric imine derivatives were completely separated on a commercial capillary gas chromatography column. The effects of several derivatization parameters were investigated and optimized. Linearity in the optimized method ranged from 0.050 to 50 μg/mL with the squared correlation coefficients (R2 ) between 0.9981 and 0.9999. Reasonable reproducibility was obtained, with the intraday relative standard deviation (N = 5) ranging from 0.89 to 4.57% and interday relative standard deviation ranging from 2.26 to 7.69% at the concentration of 5.0 μg/mL. The developed method has been successfully applied to determine these isomeric aromatic amines in real samples.

Abstract
We present a simple methodology for the simultaneous identification and determination of biogenic amines in food matrices, based on the use of a stable isotope-coded derivatization and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The tagging reagent is N-hydroxysuccinimidyl ester of d(0)/d(4) -4-methoxybenzoic acid (d(0)/d(4) -4-MBA-OSu) which mainly functionalizes primary amines. The identification and structural characterization of tagged biogenic amines were exploited by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-mass spectrometry (MS) and MS/MS. Multiple-reaction monitoring has been applied in the assay of biogenic amines in different foodstuffs, providing a method whose reliability is confirmed by the values of accuracy (12%) and by the calculated analytical parameters.

Abstract
A new HPLC method was developed for the simultaneous determination of aminophenol isomers by means of a mixed-mode stationary phase containing both SCX and C18 moieties. All factors influencing the separation were discussed and optimized. The chromatographic conditions for the separation of aminophenols are the stationary phase duet SCX/C18, the mobile phase of aqueous phosphate buffer (pH 4.85):methanol = 85:15 (v/v) delivered with a flow rate of 1 mL/min and a detection at 285 nm. The method proposed was validated in terms of linearity, limits of detection and quantification, accuracy and precision. The HPLC method elaborated here was applied with good results on river water samples. In order to survey the quality of surface rivers entered in treatment plants which deliver water for Bucharest, two major rivers were included in a monitoring program which last more than 1 year.

Abstract
The room temperature ionic liquid (IL) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis-(trifluorometanesulfonyl)imide BMIm[NTf₂] was used as a novel medium for improvement of separation and quantization of 16 aromatic amines typically present as contaminants in consumer products and detected by HPLC coupled to an electrochemical detector. The aromatic amines, namely 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane, 4-chloroaniline, 2-methoxy-5-methyl-aniline, 3,3'-dimethylbenzidine, 2,4-diaminotoluidine, 2-chloro-4-nitroaniline, 4,4'-oxydianiline, aniline, 3,3'-ichlorobenzidine, benzidine, 4-aminobiphenyl, o-dianisidine, o-anisidine, o-toluidine, 4,4'-methylene-bis-2-chloroaniline and 2-naphthylamine are oxidized in methanol/BMIm[NTf₂] at a potential around +0.68V to +0.93V vs. Ag/AgCl at a glassy carbon electrode, which is the base for their determination by HPLC/ED. Using the optimized conditions of methanol/BMIm[NTf₂] 70:30 (v/v) as mobile phase, flow-rate of 0.8 mL·min⁻¹, column CLC-ODS, Eap = +1.0 V and T = 40 °C analytical curves were constructed for each of the tested amines. Good linearity was obtained in the concentration range of 1.09 mg·L⁻¹ to 217 mg·L⁻¹, with excellent correlation coefficients. The limits of detection reached 0.021 mg·L⁻¹ to 0.246 mg·L⁻¹ and good relative standard deviations (RSD, n = 3) were obtained from the measurements. Satisfactory recovery for each aromatic amine was achieved, ranging from 95 to 103%. The developed method was successfully applied to determine six aromatic amines present as contaminants in commercial hair dye samples.

Abstract
A rapid method for the determination of para-phenylenediamine (PPD) in cosmetic products, such as henna tattoos has been developed and evaluated. This analytical procedure involved extracting a 10mg test portion of cosmetic product in 10 mL of ethyl acetate, followed by determination by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in the selected ion monitoring mode (GC/MS-SIM). 1,4-Phenylenediamine-2,3,5,6-d(4) was selected as an internal standard that was added at the beginning of the extraction procedure and used to correct for recovery and matrix effects. The linearity ranged from 1.0 to 1275 μg/mL with a coefficient of determination (r(2)) greater than 0.999. LOQ and LOD were 1.0 and 0.10 μg/mL, respectively. The recovery in a tattoo product containing PPD was 94% and that for a tattoo product containing no PPD reached 105%. Extraction efficiency of 98% was obtained. This method has been successfully applied to henna temporary tattoo and other henna-related cosmetic products for the determination and quantitation of PPD.

Abstract
In general capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) separation models, o-, m-, and p-phenylenediamine isomers can be separated in a weak acidic running buffer for their pK(a) values being 4.52, 5.64, 6.04, respectively, while o-, m-, and p-dihydroxybenzene isomers can be separated in a weak basic buffer for their pK(a) values being 9.40, 9.40 and 10.04, respectively. So, it is hard to find a suitable running buffer at a fixed pH in normal CZE for simultaneous separation of these two groups of positional isomers. In this paper, a novel method based on alternately running two different pH buffers in CZE coupled with amperometric detection (CZE-AD) was designed to simultaneously determine these two groups of positional isomers. It is found that when two different pH running buffers were employed alternately under appropriate order and time, the six analytes could be separated perfectly in less than 20 min and the detection limits were as low as 10(-7) mol/L. Furthermore, the effects of working electrode potential, pH and concentration of running buffer, separation voltage and injection time on CZE-AD were investigated. Experimental results demonstrated that the introduced method was practical to simultaneously determine two groups of positional isomers with different pK(a) and had some advantages of high sensitivity, good repeatability and small sample requirement.

Abstract
A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method has been proposed for the determination of carcinogenic and toxic aromatic amines in hair dye, henna and dyed hair samples. The method includes ion-pair extraction of aromatic amines from aqueous samples with bis-2-ethylhexylphosphate (BEHPA) released after solving the samples in acidic solution followed by sonication, derivatisation of compounds with isobutyl chloroformate (IBCF) and their GC-MS analysis in both electron impact (EI) and positive and negative ion chemical ionisation (PNICI) mode as their isobutyloxycarbonyl (isoBOC) derivatives. The obtained recoveries of aromatic amines ranged from 92.2 to 98.4% and the precision of this method, as indicated by the relative standard deviations (RSDs) was within the range of 0.7-4.2%. The detection limits obtained from calculations by using GC-MS results based on signal-to-noise ratio (S/N)=3 were within the range from 0.02 to 0.20 ng/g. In the present study, the commercially available 54 permanent hair dye, 35 modified or natural henna and 15 dyed hair samples were analysed for the aromatic amines by the proposed method and the method was shown to be suitable to determine the aromatic amine ingredients and metabolites of these commercial products.

Abstract
The molecular interactions between aniline, p-toluidines, benzidine and p-phenylenediamine as electron donors and 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) as acceptor have been investigated by spectrophotometric method. Different variables affecting the reaction were studies and optimized. At the optimum reaction conditions Beer's law was obeyed in a concentration limit of 0.6-3.0, 0.3-3.0, 0.3-3.0 and 0.3-2.7 microg ml(-1) for aniline, p-toluidines, benzidine and p-phenylenediamine. The developed methods were applied successfully for the determination of the studied compounds in waste water and relative standard deviation of the methods were 0.8-3.0%. Percentage recoveries ranged from 97.22% to 102.78%.
