Abstract
BACKGROUND There is no strong evidence demonstrating whether or not aerobic exercise in conjunction with resistance exercise improves metabolic diabetes markers in postmenopausal women. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise and resistance training on metabolic markers in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) by means of a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS The searches were completed using EMBASE, MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases. This study included non-blinded, single or double-blinded randomized control trials and postmenopausal women diagnosed with T2DM. The imposed intervention was aerobic exercise plus any training protocol to strengthen muscle groups for resistance intervention. The outcomes of interest were the blood glucose levels, insulin secretion, homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Risk of Bias tools and GRADE were obligatory. RESULTS Three studies were included (83 participants). Exercise intervention ranged between two to four days per week. Compared to the control group, in the group submitted to aerobic exercise + resistance training, no significant change was noted for HbA1c (subtotal = mean difference - 0.35 [95% CI: -0.85, 0.15], p = .17, and heterogeneity = 0%) (GRADE: very low), nevertheless, HOMA-IR index was significantly improved (subtotal = mean difference -0.52 [95% CI: -0.99, -0.05], p = .03, and heterogeneity = 0%) (GRADE: very low). CONCLUSION Despite the very low certainty found in the quality of evidences, our analysis showed that aerobic exercise along with strength exercise seems to improve some metabolic diabetes markers in postmenopausal women with T2DM. There is a need for further studies to support our preliminary findings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to analyze the effects of jazz dance or concurrent training on the cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), muscle strength and sleep quality of postmenopausal women. METHOD A randomized clinical trial with 6-month and 12-month follow-up was conducted including 70 postmenopausal women (mean age 53.19 ± 3.39 years). Participants were randomized into the jazz dance intervention (JD) group, concurrent training intervention (CT) group and control group (CG). CRF was assessed using the 6-min walk test, muscle strength using the isokinetic dynamometer and sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire. Generalized estimating equations with post-hoc minimum significant difference were used, and intention-to-treat and protocol adherence analyses were performed. RESULTS CRF showed changes between groups, times and interactions, but the CT group achieved greater gains compared to the JD group. Isokinetic strength showed long-term intragroup improvement for both intervention groups, at peak extension and flexion. Intergroup differences were observed, with the JD group presenting higher means in peak extension at all times compared to the CG post intervention; however, the CT group achieved higher means compared to the JD group; and at peak flexion, the JD group presented with higher averages compared to the CG post intervention. The JD group showed an improvement in sleep duration in the short term, while the CT group did so at the 6-month follow-up. There were intergroup changes in the reduction in sleep medication in both intervention groups compared to the CG. CONCLUSION Both modalities are effective for improving CRF, muscle strength and sleep quality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Accumulating evidence supports the effectiveness of moderate-intensity aerobic training on metabolic health, with limited studies investigating change in resting substrate oxidation. The aim of this study was to explore whether 10 weeks of walking-based aerobic training would alter substrate oxidation in postmenopausal women with obesity. METHODS AND RESULTS Twenty-four postmenopausal women with obesity who were assigned into the control (n = 12) or exercise groups (n = 12) undertook a 10-week aerobic training program (3 d·week-1) that involved walking exercises at 50-70% of heart rate reserve on a treadmill, with exercise volume increased from 25 to 40 min·day-1. Resting metabolic rate (RMR) and body composition were measured pre- and post-training. Whole-body substrate oxidation was calculated using respiratory data collected during RMR measurement via indirect calorimetry. No significant change was noted (p > 0.05) in resting fat oxidation and carbohydrate oxidation in the exercise group. Resting respiratory exchange ratio and RMR did not alter in response to the training program (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION Our results show that a 10-week of moderate-intensity aerobic training does not modify substrate oxidation in postmenopausal women with obesity.

Abstract
The origins of many diseases can be traced to the dynamic interplay of genetic predispositions and environmental exposures post-birth. Epigenetic modifications have recently gained prominence as a significant mediator between genetic information and environmental factors, influencing the occurrence and progression of disease. There is a burgeoning body of evidence supports that physical exercise, acting as an external environmental stimulus, exerts a discernible impact on major epigenetic modifications, including histone modifications, DNA methylation, RNA methylation, and non-coding RNA. This effect assumes a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of various human diseases. Exploring the epigenetic molecular mechanisms through which physical exercise enhances human health holds the promise of deepening our understanding of how it improves physiological functions, mitigates disease risks, and establishes a theoretical foundation for employing physical exercise as a non-pharmacological intervention in disease prevention and treatment.

Abstract
Background: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a cluster of cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors that increase the likelihood of both acute events and chronic conditions. While exercise has been shown to improve individual risk factors associated with MS; research on its effects on MS as an integrated condition remains limited. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a 6-month Adapted Personalized Motor Activity (AMPA) program for improving the health outcomes of individuals with MS. Methods: Seventy-one sedentary participants with MS (mean age: 63 ± 9.4 years, 46.5% female) completed a 6-month intervention, incorporating moderate-intensity aerobic and resistance training. Each participant received a personalized exercise plan prescribed by a sports medicine physician. The training was monitored via telemetry to ensure safety. No dietary recommendations were provided during the intervention. Baseline and post-intervention assessments included Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, heart rate, lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides), fasting glucose, and HbA1c. Results: Significant improvements were observed in fasting glucose (-10.6%, p < 0.001), HbA1c (-3.88%, p < 0.001), HDL cholesterol (+20.8%, p < 0.001), LDL cholesterol (-25.1%, p < 0.001), and VO2max (+8.6%, p < 0.001). Systolic and diastolic blood pressure also decreased significantly, with reductions of -12% (p < 0.001) and -5.9% (p < 0.001), respectively. Reductions in weight and waist circumference were statistically significant but modest and clinically irrelevant, showing no correlation with improvements in cardio-metabolic parameters. Logistic regression and correlation matrix analyses were performed to identify key predictors of changes in individual risk factors. Conclusions: While personalized exercise alone may not fully control individual risk factors of metabolic syndrome, its overall effect is comparable to low-intensity pharmacological polytherapy with minimal adverse effects. These benefits appear to be independent of dietary habits, gender, and both baseline and post-intervention physical performance and anthropometric measures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of metabolic risk factors, including glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia, central obesity, high triglyceride levels, and low levels of high-density lipoprotein. It is the commonest type of co-morbidity among people with psychiatric conditions particularly in low and middle-income countries due to poor health care systems and financial burden. Metabolic syndrome among people with psychiatric conditions may be due to prolonged use of psychiatric medications, diminished quality of life, and personal and behavioral-related factors. Except for single studies with fluctuating reports, there is no nationwide study conducted on the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among people with psychiatric conditions in Ethiopia. Thus, this review aims to estimate the pooled prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its association with selected factors among people with psychiatric conditions in Ethiopia. METHODS We conducted a thorough search of PubMed, Scopus, Wiley online library, African journals online, and Google Scholar. For analysis, STATA version 14 software was used. A funnel plot and Egger's regression test statistic were used to find the potential reporting bias. A fixed effect model was used to contrast summary effects, odds ratios, and 95% confidence intervals all over research findings. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to evaluate the quality of each included study. RESULTS Eight articles were included in the final review after retrieving 9,714 articles through electronic database searching. By using the national cholesterol education adult treatment panel criteria, the pooled prevalence of metabolic syndrome among people with psychiatric conditions in Ethiopia was found to be 37.33% (95%CI: 24.52-50.14). Being female AOR = 2.66; 95% CI: 0.89, 7.92), urban residency (AOR = 2.84; 95% CI: 0.56, 14.45), physical inactivity (AOR = 3.80; 95% CI: 1.61, 8.98), alcohol consumption (AOR = 4.53; 95% CI: 1.62, 12.71) and body mass index higher than the normal range (AOR = 4.66; 95% CI: 1.22, 17.85) were the factors significantly associated with metabolic syndrome among people with psychiatric conditions. According to the review, schizophrenic-form disorder, delusional disorder, major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder were the frequently reported psychiatric conditions. CONCLUSION This systematic review and meta-analysis revealed that the magnitude of metabolic syndrome among people with psychiatric conditions in Ethiopia was high and female gender, physical inactivity, alcohol consumption, and body mass index higher than the normal range were the factors that determined the occurrence of metabolic syndrome. Thus, policymakers, clinicians, and other concerned stakeholders must reinforce effective strategies in the control, timely screening, prevention, and management of metabolic syndrome among people with psychiatric conditions. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Postmenopausal women are at a heightened risk of developing metabolic syndrome and therefore require targeted interventions. This study investigated the effects of a 12-week fitness walking (FW) programme on risk factors for metabolic syndrome and sex hormone levels in postmenopausal women. Our study hypothesised that FW would reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome in this population, with correlated changes in sex hormone levels. METHODS AND RESULTS Postmenopausal women were randomly assigned to FW (n = 15, age: 60.87 ± 5.73 years, body mass index (BMI): 23.58 ± 2.88 kg m-2) or control (CON) groups (n = 15, age: 60.40 ± 3.79 years, BMI: 24.97 ± 3.07 kg m-2). The FW group engaged in a 12-week FW programme (60 min/session, five times/week, 50%-60 % VO2max, aerobic training). The CON group maintained their usual lifestyle. After the intervention, the FW group exhibited decreased levels of triglycerides (TG), fasting blood glucose (FBG), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP, P = 0.009) and waist circumference (WC), and increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C, P = 0.001). The CON group demonstrated increased TG (P = 0.001), FBG, SBP, DBP and WC, and decreased HDL-C. Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) was negatively correlated with TG and SBP in the CON group pre- and post-intervention. Among all participants, there was a significant negative correlation between SHBG and TG, BMI, and WC pre-intervention; only TG remained significantly correlated with SHBG post-intervention. CONCLUSION A 12-week FW training programme effectively controlled metabolic syndrome risk factors in postmenopausal women, and a significant relationship between metabolic syndrome risk factors and sex hormone levels was observed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adipose tissue is an endocrine organ that produces various bioactive molecules known as adipokines, including resistin, which is be highly expressed in people with obesity and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The effects of supramaximal high intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate-intensity interval training (MIIT) on serum levels of resistin and various cardiometabolic health indices, were investigated. HYPOTHESIS Supramaximal and moderate interval training induce comparable effects on serum resistin levels and cardiometabolic health indices. STUDY DESIGN Cohort study. METHODS Thirty overweight adult women were assigned to 1 of 3 groups: HIIT (2 sets of 8 intervals, each with 30 seconds exercise at 100%-110% maximal aerobic speed [MAS] followed by 30 seconds rest at 50% MAS; for 6 weeks with 3 sessions per week), MIIT (2 sets of 8 intervals, each with 30 seconds exercise at 70%-80% MAS followed by 30 seconds rest at 50% MAS; for 6 weeks with 3 sessions per week), or a control group. RESULTS Triglyceride levels were significantly higher in the control group compared with both the HIIT and MIIT groups (P = .02 and .01, respectively). High-density lipoprotein levels were also elevated significantly in the experimental groups compared with the control group (P = .04 and .03, respectively). Serum resistin increased significantly from pretest levels in the control group (P < .01). Between-group comparisons showed that resistin levels were significantly higher in the control group than in the experimental groups (P < .01 and .01, respectively). CONCLUSION Six weeks of HIIT can reduce resistin levels and improve cardiometabolic health indicators in nonpostmenopausal women. Although 6 weeks of MIIT does not reduce resistin, it does decrease systolic blood pressure and obesity-related factors in nonmenopausal women. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Supramaximal interval training may be recommended to control bioactive molecules produced from adipose tissue that are linked to CVD.

Abstract
Menopause occurs due to the depletion of the ovarian reserve, leading to a progressive decline in estrogen (E2) levels. This decrease in E2 levels increases the risk of developing several diseases and can coexist with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Arterial hypertension (AH) is another condition associated with menopause and may either contribute to or result from CKD. Ovariectomy (OVX) induces hypoestrogenism, which can lead to mitochondrial bioenergetic dysfunction in the kidneys. Previous studies have suggested that exercise training has beneficial effects on adults with CKD and AH. To investigate the effects of OVX and resistance training (RT) on hemodynamic parameters and mitochondrial bioenergetic function of the kidney, female Wistar rats were divided into ovariectomized (OVX) and intact (INT) groups. These rats were either kept sedentary (SED) or subjected to RT for thirteen weeks. The RT involved climbing a vertical ladder with a workload apparatus. Hemodynamic parameters were assessed via tail plethysmography. Mitochondrial respiratory function was evaluated with high-resolution respirometry. Gene expression related to the electron transport chain (ETC) and oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) was evaluated by real-time qPCR. At week 13, key hemodynamic parameters (systolic blood pressure and mean arterial pressure) were significantly elevated in the OVX-SED group. Compared with those in the other groups, mitochondrial bioenergetics were impaired in the OVX-SED group. In contrast, the trained groups presented improved mitochondrial bioenergetic function compared with the sedentary groups. OVX led to reduced gene expression related to the mitochondrial ETC and OXPHOS, whereas RT both prevented this reduction and increased gene expression in the trained groups. Our results indicate that hypoestrogenism significantly decreases OXPHOS and ETC capacity in the kidneys of sedentary animals. However, RT effectively increased the expression of genes related to mitochondrial ETC and OXPHOS, thereby counteracting the effects of OVX.

Abstract
Menopause marks a major milestone in female reproductive ageing. It is characterized by the cessation of ovarian function and a concomitant decline in hormones such as oestradiol. Subsequently, females undergoing menopausal transition experience a progressive increase in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease risk. During menopause, reductions in nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability, endothelial dysfunction, increases in systemic inflammation, oxidative stress, and impaired vascular remodelling may contribute towards an accelerated decline in the function of cerebral and peripheral vascular systems. Historically, hormone therapy (HT) has been used as a means of managing vascular disease risk and reducing menopause-associated vasomotor symptoms such as hot flushes, though some studies suggest regular exercise has the potential to be a promising alternative. Regular aerobic exercise during early postmenopause may slow vascular decline by improving NO and oestradiol bioavailability, promoting positive vascular remodelling and lowering systemic inflammation. However, exercise-mediated improvements in markers of vascular function are not consistently observed in oestradiol-deficient postmenopausal women. Emerging evidence suggests that due to the greater oestradiol bioavailability during early postmenopause, vascular adaptations to exercise may be enhanced during this stage, as opposed to late postmenopause. Subsequently it may be important to begin regular exercise in the years preceding and immediately following the final menstrual period to slow the progression of vascular disease risk during perimenopause and beyond. The present review will provide a summary of our current understanding of how vascular function is affected during menopause and the role of regular aerobic and resistance exercise training in managing vascular disease risk.

Abstract
Exercise can have a wide range of health benefits, including improving blood lipid profiles. For women to achieve optimal cardiovascular health, it is vital to determine the effect of exercise on their health and whether different exercise intensities can affect their blood lipid profile. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to examine the effects of exercise on improving the lipid profile of healthy women. A database search was conducted using PubMed, Google Scholar, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science from inception until July 2, 2021, for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating exercise's effects on healthy women's blood lipid profiles. A total of 10 eligible articles (or 17 trials) with 576 participants were identified as eligible for the study. Overall, the meta-analysis shows that physical activity significantly improved total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) levels: TC [WMD = -5.77 mg/dL, 95% CI: -10.41, -1.13, P < 0.01]; TG [WMD = -5.60 mg/dL, 95% CI: -8.96, -2.23, P < 0.01]; HDL [WMD = 4.49 mg/dL, 95% CI: 0.33, 8.65, P = 0.03]. Additionally, sub-group analyses indicated that combined exercise training improved TG and TC (p 0.05), and aerobic exercise significantly increased HDL. In this study, physical activity appears to be one of the most effective non-pharmacological means for improving HDL, TG, and TC in healthy women. In terms of TG and TC, CT was the most effective.

Abstract
Physical activity promotes various metabolic benefits by balancing pro and anti-inflammatory adipokines. Recent studies suggest that asprosin might be involved in progression of metabolic syndrome (MetS), however, the underlying mechanisms have not been understood yet. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT), and further detraining on MetS indices, insulin resistance, serum and the liver levels of asprosin, and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway in menopause-induced MetS model of rats. A total of 64 Wistar rats were used in this study and divided into eight groups: Sham1, OVX1 (ovariectomized), Sham2, OVX2, OVX + HIIT, OVX + MICT, OVX + HIIT + Det (detraining), and OVX + MICT + Det. Animals performed the protocols, and then serum concentrations of asprosin, TNF-α, insulin, fasting blood glucose, and lipid profiles (TC, LDL, TG, and HDL) were assessed. Additionally, the liver expression of asprosin, AMPK, and P-AMPK was measured by western blotting. Both HIIT and MICT caused a significant decrease in weight, waist circumference, BMI (P = 0.001), and serum levels of glucose, insulin, asprosin (P = 0.001), triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and TNF-α (P = 0.001), but an increase in the liver AMPK, P-AMPK, and P-AMPK/AMPK (P = 0.001), compared with OVX2 noexercised group. MICT was superior to HIIT in reducing serum asprosin, TNF-a, TG, LDL (P = 0.001), insulin, fasting blood glucose, HOMA-IR, and QUEKI index (P = 0.001), but an increase in the liver AMPK, and p-AMPK (P = 0.001). Although after two months of de-training almost all indices returned to the pre exercise values (P < 0.05). The findings suggest that MICT effectively alleviates MetS induced by menopause, at least partly through the activation of liver signaling of P-AMPK and the reduction of asprosin and TNF-α. These results have practical implications for the development of exercise interventions targeting MetS in menopausal individuals, emphasizing the potential benefits of MICT in mitigating MetS-related complications.

Abstract
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is increasing markedly among postmenopausal women. Although studies suggest multiple risk factors for its development, few have investigated changes in socioeconomic status (SES), female reproductive health indicators (menarche age, experience of pregnancy, delivery, breastfeeding, and postmenopausal status), and lifestyle factors. This study investigated lifestyle factors affecting MetS prevalence among pre- and post-menopausal women after adjusting for SES and female reproductive health indicators. Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey VII (2016-2018) on 2856 pre- and postmenopausal women aged 40-59 years were analyzed. Differences in SES (e.g., age, education, and household income), female reproductive health indicators (e.g., age of menarche and menopause), and lifestyle (e.g., total calorie intake, fats, and proteins, percentage of energy from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, smoking, physical activity, and obesity) between MetS and non-MetS groups were calculated by performing χ2 or t-tests. Consequently, current smoking, physical inactivity, overweight, and obesity were significantly associated with increased MetS after adjusting for SES and female reproductive health indicators using logistic regression analysis. Hence, health policies and programs focusing on modifiable MetS risk factors-encouraging healthy eating habits, smoking cessation, and regular exercise-must be formulated to prevent the development of MetS in pre- and postmenopausal women.

Abstract
PURPOSE This meta-analytical study aimed to explore the effects of resistance training (RT) volume on body adiposity, metabolic risk, and inflammation in postmenopausal and older females. METHODS A systematic search was performed for randomized controlled trials in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO. Randomized controlled trials with postmenopausal and older females that compared RT effects on body adiposity, metabolic risk, and inflammation with a control group (CG) were included. Independent reviewers selected the studies, extracted the data, and performed the risk of bias and certainty of the evidence (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE)) evaluations. Total body and abdominal adiposity, blood lipids, glucose, and C-reactive protein were included for meta-analysis. A random-effects model, standardized mean difference (Hedges' g), and 95% confidence interval (95%CI) were used for meta-analysis. RESULTS Twenty randomized controlled trials (overall risk of bias: some concerns; GRADE: low to very low) with overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females were included. RT groups were divided into low-volume RT (LVRT, ∼44 sets/week) and high-volume RT (HVRT, ∼77 sets/week). Both RT groups presented improved body adiposity, metabolic risk, and inflammation when compared to CG. However, HVRT demonstrated higher effect sizes than LVRT for glucose (HVRT = -1.19; 95%CI: -1.63 to -0.74; LVRT = -0.78; 95%CI:-1.15 to -0.41) and C-reactive protein (HVRT = -1.00; 95%CI: -1.32 to -0.67; LVRT = -0.34; 95%CI, -0.63 to -0.04)) when compared to CG. CONCLUSION Compared to CG, HVRT protocols elicit greater improvements in metabolic risk and inflammation outcomes than LVRT in overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between metabolic syndrome (MS) and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) remains unclear. This study aimed to examine the effects of MS on histopathological features and postoperative recurrence in patients with CRSwNP. METHODS We recruited 529 patients with CRSwNP who underwent functional endoscopic sinus surgery. They were divided into MS and non-MS groups and followed up for 2 years to evaluate postoperative recurrence. Clinical characteristics, histopathological features, the immunoactivity of signature cytokines, and the risk of postoperative recurrence were compared between the two groups. RESULTS In total, 490 patients with CRSwNP were included in the study, 145 of whom experienced postoperative recurrence. The recurrence rate, tissue eosinophil count and percentage, and expression levels of IL-5 and IL-17A were significantly higher in the MS group compared to the non-MS group. Furthermore, within the MS group, patients who experienced recurrence exhibited higher tissue eosinophil counts and IL-5 and IL-17A levels than those in the non-MS group. Notably, the eosinophil count and IL-5 and IL-17A levels were higher in tissues collected during revision surgery than in those collected during primary surgery, particularly in patients with MS. Binary logistic regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier survival curves consistently indicated that MS independently increased the risk of postoperative recurrence in patients with CRSwNP. Furthermore, the risk increased with the number of MS components presented. CONCLUSION MS promoted tissue eosinophil infiltration, and IL-5 and IL-17A expression, and increased the risk of postoperative recurrence in patients with CRSwNP. MS was identified as an independent risk factor for postoperative recurrence, and the risk increased with an increase in the number of MS components.

Abstract
BACKGROUND After menopause, reductions in ovarian hormones increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Aerobic exercise training has been shown to reduce cardiovascular risk in older adults, but its effectiveness in postmenopausal females is less definitive. OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study were to examine the: (1) effects of aerobic training, and (2) association between aerobic training intensity and cardiometabolic health outcomes in postmenopausal females. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. DATA SOURCES AND METHODS Six electronic databases were searched from inception to July 21, 2023 for aerobic training interventions reporting cardiometabolic outcomes in postmenopausal females. Data were synthesized qualitatively and random-effects meta-analyses and subgroup analyses (light, moderate, and vigorous intensity) were performed. Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation was used to assess the certainty of evidence. RESULTS Fifty-nine studies (n = 4,225; 45-78 years old) were identified, 53 (n = 3,821) were included in the quantitative analyses. Aerobic training interventions varied in frequency (3-21×/week), intensity, type, time (8-60 min/session), and duration (3-52 weeks). Aerobic training improved systolic blood pressure (mean difference (MD) = -4.41 mmHg, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) [-7.29, -1.52], p = 0.01), resting heart rate (MD = -3.08 bpm, 95%CI [-5.11, -1.05], p < 0.01), body mass index (BMI, MD = -0.65 kg/m2, 95%CI [-0.99, -0.31], p < 0.01), waist circumference (MD = -2.03 cm, 95%CI [-2.65, -1.41], p < 0.01), body fat (MD = -2.57 kg, 95%CI [-3.65, -1.49], p < 0.01), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD = -10.46 mg/dL, 95%CI [-16.31, -4.61], p < 0.01), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD = 3.28 mg/dL, 95%CI [0.20, 6.36], p = 0.04) and cardiorespiratory fitness (standardized MD = 1.38, 95%CI [1.13, 1.64], p < 0.01). There was a very low certainty of evidence for all outcomes. In subgroup analyses, light- and vigorous intensities were beneficial for BMI with no effect for moderate-intensity exercise (p < 0.01). Light intensity showed a beneficial effect (p = 0.02) for glucose levels (p < 0.01) and triglycerides; there was no effect with moderate or vigorous intensities. CONCLUSION Aerobic training may improve cardiometabolic health outcomes in postmenopausal females. There may be differential effects of exercise intensity on BMI, blood triglycerides, and blood glucose; however, this warrants further investigation. REGISTRATION PROSPERO-CRD42022313350.

Abstract
Patients affected by COVID-19 are prone to facing disorders in multiple systems and organs, which can lead to deleterious diseases; in addition, people with pre-existing diseases may be more prone to the worst outcomes, and the most vulnerable are patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effects of physical activity and/or physical exercise prescribed to individuals with diabetes on the maintenance of plasma glucose and glycated hemoglobin during the COVID-19 pandemic. Studies were found by searching PubMed, SCOPUS, Embase, Web of Science, SciELO, LILACS, SportDiscus, Bireme/BVS and Google Scholar databases. The inclusion criteria were articles that addressed only patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes (T1D and T2D) who had evaluated the level of physical activity or physical exercise and described the effects on plasma glucose and/or glycated hemoglobin in cross-sectional, retrospective, and observational studies, meeting the main criteria established by GRADE. The PICO and GRADE strategies were used to select and assess the methodological quality of studies. Two reviewers searched and selected the articles in databases independently and blindly, during which oppositions and disagreements about the inclusion of articles were discussed and resolved by a third reviewer. Evidence corroborates that levels of physical activity were reduced due to the lockdown, leading to increased body weight and worse glycemic control. On the other hand, individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM) (T1D and T2D) who maintained and/or increased levels of physical activity or physical exercise showed reduced plasma glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels. Adequate levels of physical exercise and physical activity are beneficial for glucose and HbA1c control in diabetic patients (type 1 or type 2). In addition, maintaining adequate levels of physical activity can contribute to reducing health problems when these patients are infected with COVID-19.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although aging is a process associated with the development of obesity, metabolic syndrome (MetS), and sarcopenia, the prevalence of these conditions in older adults from São Paulo, Brazil, is unclear. METHODS Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the prevalence of obesity, sarcopenia, and MetS, both separately and together, in a community-based sample of older adults from São Paulo, Brazil. Data from the medical records of 418 older adults of both genders, aged 60 years or older (mean age 69.3 ± 6.5 years), who were not physically active, were used to conduct this retrospective cross-sectional study. Anthropometric variables were used to determine both body mass index (BMI) and Conicity index (C index). Sarcopenia and MetS were defined according to the criteria of the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People and by the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, respectively. RESULTS Based on BMI, the group of older men (n = 91) showed a predominance of adequate weight (n = 49) and the group of older women (n = 327) showed a predominance of obesity (n = 181). In association with obesity, while only the group of older women presented with sarcopenia (n = 5), 52 older women and 9 older men presented with MetS, and two older women presented with sarcopenia + MetS [prevalence ratio = 0.0385, 95% CI (0.007;0.1924)]. Based on the C index, 58 older women and 11 older men presented with MetS, while the occurrence of sarcopenia or MetS + sarcopenia was found in 32 and 5 older women, respectively [prevalence ratio = 0.0910, 95% CI (0.037;0.2241)]. DISCUSSION Our results suggest that obesity, as measured by BMI or the C Index, was more closely associated with the occurrence of MetS than sarcopenia, regardless of gender, and also that sarcopenic obesity was only found in the group of older women. Additionally, the prevalence ratio of obesity, sarcopenia, and MetS evidenced using the C index was 2.3 times higher than the values found using the BMI classification.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The transition from reproductive to menopausal status constitutes amajor rite of passage for women, biologically, psychologically, and socially. For women with adiagnosis of schizophrenia, this stage of life is complicated by worsening psychotic symptoms and diminished effectiveness of antipsychotic drugs. This frequently leads to increased doses and subsequently increased adverse effects. AREAS COVERED The aim of this narrative review is to determine what management changes are needed at this time of life for women with schizophrenia. Searched and highlighted are the areas of sleep, cognition, occupation/employment, psychotic symptoms, side effects of treatment, and non-psychiatric as well as psychiatric co-morbidities which, when not adequately treated, can undermine quality of life and lead to premature death. EXPERT OPINION Many of the problems associated with menopause in women with schizophrenia can be prevented or remediated. Nevertheless, more research addressing the changes that occur in women with schizophrenia from pre- to post-menopause will help to bring clinical attention to this important health issue.
