Abstract
The ecological conditions of freshwater aquaculture are deteriorating by degrees in recent years. Consequently, the comprehensive utilization of saline-alkaline water has garnered increasing societal attention. Here, crucian carp (Carassius auratus) were exposed to 20, 40 mmol/L NaHCO3 for 30 days (T, F group). Metabolomic analyses were conducted using UPLC-QTOF/MS, complemented by biochemical and microbiology profiling to elucidate the damage of the saline environment to the intestinal microbial structure, which in turn interfered with the energy metabolism. It was observed that carbonate alkalinity (CA) exposure not only caused intestine oxidative stress but also changed the levels of several digestive enzymes, including α-amylase (AMS), chymotrypsin (CHY), lipase (LPS). Metabolomic analysis identified 22 different metabolites (DEMs) in T group and 77 DEMs in F group. MetaboAnalyst analysis indicated that these metabolites are primarily involved in energy-related pathways, including the citric acid cycle, galactose metabolism, and glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism. Intestinal microbial diversity and community composition were altered under carbonate alkalinity exposure, with increase in Proteobacteria abundance and decline in Firmicutes, abundance alongside enrichment of Sphingomonas. Herein, saline-alkaline stress disrupted the physiological homeostasis of the crucian carp intestine, leading to microbial dysbiosis and energy metabolic imbalance. This study provides a theoretical foundation for understanding the stress response of the crucian carp intestine and the role of the intestinal microbiome in host resilience under adverse environmental conditions.

Abstract
The concept and application of probiotic intervention for restoring intestinal microbial dysbiosis induced by antibiotics in aquaculture are still in early stages. This study aimed to investigate potential responses of various recovery strategies, including natural recovery and probiotic intervention, in restoring the growth and intestinal microbial community of Penaeus vannamei following florfenicol perturbation. The basal diet (control, CN) was supplemented with florfenicol (FC) or Lactobacillus plantarum W2 (LM) throughout the entire feeding trial. Meanwhile, the basal diet was supplemented with florfenicol for 7 days, followed by a period without florfenicol (natural recovery, FB), or with live strain W2 (probiotic recovery, FM), for a duration of 35 days. Results indicated that dietary supplementation of strain W2, whether continuous or following florfenicol perturbation, along with continuous florfenicol supplementation, significantly enhanced the growth performance of shrimp. Early natural recovery and probiotic intervention did not induce significant alterations in microbial diversity and community structure. Florfenicol perturbation resulted in a decrease in the abundance of potentially beneficial bacteria in intestinal microbial community of shrimp. However, both probiotic intervention and natural recovery strategies gradually reduced the abundance of potentially pathogenic bacteria while increasing the abundance of potentially beneficial ones. The robustness of microbial network decreased during florfenicol perturbation, showed gradual improvement during probiotic recovery, and remained relatively low during natural recovery and continuous florfenicol supplementation. Moreover, the microbial community composition in intestinal habitat significantly differed under various recovery strategies compared to the control. Notably, the microbial community composition of intestinal habitat following probiotic recovery exhibited greater similarity to that of continuous strain W2 supplementation without florfenicol perturbation. In summary, dietary supplementation of florfenicol perturbed intestinal microbial community stability of shrimp, whereas probiotic intervention and natural recovery facilitated the attainment of new stable states by altering keystone taxa. Considering intestinal microbial community stability of shrimp, the recovery of microbial community through probiotic intervention appears to be more effective than natural recovery.

Abstract
The red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) was introduced from Japan to China in the 1920s. Crayfish are now widely distributed in almost all types of freshwater wetlands, including rice fields, ditches, swamps, lakes, and ponds in most provinces of China, owing to their multi-directional movement, rapid growth, adaptability to the environment, and relatively high fecundity. The delectable taste and high nutritional value of crayfish have made them popular among consumers, leading to the significant development of red swamp crayfish farming in the last two decades. Currently, it represents the largest proportion of commercially farmed freshwater crustaceans in China and has become an integral component of China's aquatic economy. Crayfish are highly valued for their edibility and for their by-products, which have various important uses. This review discusses nutrient composition, active ingredients, safety evaluation, processing and preservation, and comprehensive utilization of crayfish by-products to explore and organize the existing knowledge about crayfish and to promote the growth of the crayfish industry. This comprehensive review aims to provide a basis for the optimal utilization and sustainable development of crayfish resources worldwide.

Abstract
In recent years, the concentrations of cadmium (Cd) and diclofenac (DCF) in water have frequently exceeded the standard; however, the toxic effects of these two pollutants on grass carp under single and combined exposure are unknown. In this study, the concentrations of pollutants in different tissues were detected, and the toxicities of the two pollutants to grass carp under different exposure conditions were compared based on growth traits, biochemical responses, gut microbiome, and transcriptomes. Based on these findings, the brain showed the lowest levels of Cd and DCF accumulation. Oxidative stress and pathological damage were observed in the brain and intestines. Changes in the structure and abundance of the gut microflora affect the synthesis of neurotransmitters, such as GABA and steroids. Differentially expressed genes in the brain were enriched in circadian rhythm functions. The expression of PER, CLOCK,1L-1β, 1L-17, and other genes are related to the abundance of Akkermansia, which indicates that the disorder of gut microflora will affect the normal circadian rhythm of the brain. All indices in the recovery group showed an increasing trend. Overall, the toxicity of Cd and DCF showed antagonism, and a single exposure had a stronger effect on gut microorganisms and circadian rhythm, which provided a scientific basis for exploring the comprehensive effects of different pollutants.

Abstract
In this study, we investigated the possible ecotoxicological effect of co-exposure to polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) and diclofenac (DCF) in zebrafish (Danio rerio). After six days of exposure, we noticed that the co-exposure to PS-NP (100 μg/L) and DCF (at 50 and 500 μg/L) decreased the hatching rate and increased the mortality rate compared to the control group. Furthermore, we noted that larvae exposed to combined pollutants showed a higher frequency of morphological abnormalities and increased oxidative stress, apoptosis, and lipid peroxidation. In adults, superoxide dismutase and catalase activities were also impaired in the intestine, and the co-exposure groups showed more histopathological alterations. Furthermore, the TNF-α, COX-2, and IL-1β expressions were significantly upregulated in the adult zebrafish co-exposed to pollutants. Based on these findings, the co-exposure to PS-NPs and DCF has shown an adverse effect on the intestinal region, supporting the notion that PS-NPs synergistically exacerbate DCF toxicity in zebrafish.

Abstract
In recent years, excessive discharge of pollutants has led to increasing concentrations of cadmium (Cd) and diclofenac (DCF) in water; however, the toxicity mechanism of combined exposure of the two pollutants to aquatic animals has not been fully studied. Procambarus clarkii is an economically important aquatic species that is easily affected by Cd and DCF. This study examined the effects of combined exposure to Cd and DCF on the tissue accumulation, physiology, biochemistry, and gut microflora of P. clarkii. The results showed that Cd and DCF accumulated in tissues in the order of hepatopancreas > gill > intestine > muscle. The hepatopancreas and intestines were subjected to severe oxidative stress, with significantly increased antioxidant enzyme activity. Pathological examination revealed lumen expansion and epithelial vacuolisation in the hepatopancreas and damage to the villous capillaries and wall in the intestine. The co-exposure to Cadmium (Cd) and Diclofenac (DCF) disrupts the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes (F/B) ratio, impairing the regular functioning of intestinal microbiota in carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) cycling. This disturbance consequently hinders the absorption and utilization of energy and nutrients in Procambarus clarkii. This study offers critical insights into the toxicological mechanisms underlying the combined effects of Cd and DCF, and suggests potential approaches to alleviate their adverse impacts on aquatic ecosystems.

Abstract
The red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) is an important farming species in China and there is a high degree of overlap between the main crayfish production areas and areas contaminated with the heavy metal lead (Pb), thus putting crayfish farming at potential risk of Pb contamination. To assess the toxic effects of Pb on crayfish, in this study they were exposed to different concentrations of Pb (0, 0.1, 1, 10, 50 mg/L) for 72 h, and 0.1 mg/L represents the level of Pb in the contaminated water. Histomorphology and activities of antioxidant or immune-related enzymes suggest that the damage of Pb to the hepatopancreas and intestine was dose- and time-dependent, with the intestine being more sensitive to Pb than the hepatopancreas. Notably, after a short period (24 h) of stress at low concentrations (0.1 mg/L) of Pb, the malondialdehyde (MDA) content and antioxidant enzymes such as catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in the intestine of crayfish showed significant changes, indicating that low concentrations of Pb were also highly detrimental to crayfish. High-throughput sequencing of the intestinal microbial community indicated that Pb exposure led to a disturbance in the relative abundance of intestinal bacteria, increasing the abundance of pathogenic bacteria (Bosea, Cloacibacterium, Legionella spp.) and decreasing the abundance of potentially beneficial bacteria (Chitinibacter, Chitinilyticum, Paracoccus, Microbacterium, Demequina, and Acinetobacter spp.). In conclusion, Pb damages the hepatopancreas and intestinal barrier of crayfish, leading to the destruction of their anti-stress ability and immune response, and at the same time disrupts the homeostasis of intestinal microbes, resulting in adverse effects on the gut. This study contributed to the assessment of the ecotoxicity of the heavy metal Pb to the crustacean aquatic animals.

Abstract
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are among the most frequently used pharmaceuticals for human therapy, pet therapeutics, and veterinary feeds, enabling them to enter into water sources such as wastewater, soil and sediment, and seawater. The control of NSAIDs has led to the advent of the novel materials for treatment techniques. Herein, we review the occurrence, impact and toxicity of NSAIDs against aquatic microorganisms, plants and humans. Typical NSAIDs, e.g., ibuprofen, ketoprofen, diclofenac, naproxen and aspirin were detected at high concentrations in wastewater up to 2,747,000 ng L-1. NSAIDs in water could cause genotoxicity, endocrine disruption, locomotive disorders, body deformations, organs damage, and photosynthetic corruption. Considering treatment methods, among adsorbents for removal of NSAIDs from water, metal-organic frameworks (10.7-638 mg g-1) and advanced porous carbons (7.4-400 mg g-1) were the most robust. Therefore, these carbon-based adsorbents showed promise in efficiency for the treatment of NSAIDs.

Abstract
Water salinity, pH, and nitrite concentration are considered environmental factors affecting the growth rate, survival, health, and physiological conditions of aquatic animals. The identification of key genes that are involved in the response to environmental stressors is essential for controlling stress in aquatic animals and sustainable aquaculture. In this study, RNA sequencing was performed to identify the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and biological pathways that are involved in the response of the hepatopancreas to environmental stressors, including low salinity stress, nitrite stress, low pH stress, and high pH stress. The DEGs were enriched in biological pathways related to immune response, energy metabolism, oxidative stress response, hemostasis, and enzymatic activity of the hepatopancreas. In addition to the identification of DEGs related to each stressor, some DEGs were found to be expressed among all groups. The most important overlapping DEGs under multiple stressors were juvenile hormone esterase-like protein 2 (JHE-like), myosin light chain, C-type lectin 2, myosin-9-like, anti-lipopolysaccharide factor 1 (ALF-1), peroxisomal acyl-coenzyme An oxidase 1-like (ACX1), hepatic lectin-like, venom phosphodiesterase 2-like, hemolymph clottable protein-like (CP), cathepsin L, and Ras-like protein 2. The results of the present study provide additional information regarding the transcriptional response of the hepatopancreas to low salinity, nitrite, low pH, and high pH stress. Moreover, the discovery of several overlapping DEGs among different stressors provided a better understanding of the molecular function of the hepatopancreas.
