Electrochemical enzyme-based blood ATP and lactate sensor for a rapid and straightforward evaluation of illness severity. Biosens Bioelectron 2022; 198:113832. Abstract
This study aimed to develop an electrochemical system for measuring blood ATP and lactate levels in a single format. The ratio of lactate to ATP levels was previously reported to provide an alternative illness severity score. Although severity evaluation is crucial to treat patients with acute disease admitted to intensive care units, no sensors are currently available to simply and rapidly measure ATP and lactate levels using the same detection method. Therefore, we constructed an integrated sensing system for ATP and lactate using enzymatic reactions and two sets of electrodes integrated into a chip connected to a single potentiostat operated by a microcontroller. The enzymatic system involves adenylate kinase, pyruvate kinase, and pyruvate oxidase for ATP, and lactate oxidase for lactate, both of which produce hydrogen peroxide. Multiplex enzyme-based reactions were designed to minimize the corresponding operations significantly without enzyme immobilization onto the electrodes. The system was robust in the presence of potentially interfering blood components, such as ascorbate, pyruvate, ADP, urate, and potassium ions. The ATP and lactate levels in the blood were successfully measured using the new sensor with good recoveries. The analytical results of blood samples obtained using our sensor were in good agreement with those using conventional methods. Integrating electrode-based analysis and a microcontroller-based system saved further operations, enabling the straightforward measurement of ATP and lactate levels within 5 min. The proposed sensor may serve as a useful tool in the management of serious infectious diseases.

Abstract
A new fluorescent chemosensor comprised of cucurbit[8]uril (Q[8]) and acridine hydrochloride (AC) has been designed and utilized for the recognition of amino acids. The AC was encapsulated by the Q[8] cavity and formed a 1:2 host-guest inclusion complex both in solution (aqueous) and in the solid-state. Whilst free AC is known to be strongly fluorescent, this strong fluorescence was quenched in the inclusion complex Q [8]-AC. This non-fluorescent complex Q[8]-AC was capable of serving as a fluorescence "off-on" probe, and was able to recognize either L-Phe or L-Trp via the competitive interaction between L-Phe or L-Trp. Moreover, the pH responsive nature of the probe allowed for the detection of basic amino acids, namely L-Arg, L-His, or L-Lys). As a result, a fluorescence method for the detection of five amino acids using a single system has been developed.

Abstract
Nitrogen-doped carbon spheres (CSs-N) were synthesized by a hydrothermal method with glucose as the carbon source and urea as the nitrogen source. The synthesized nitrogen-doped carbon spheres were activated by KOH to prepare high performance nitrogen-doped porous carbon material (PCM-N) for adsorption of Cr(VI). SEM, TEM, BET, Raman spectroscopy, XRD, XPS, Zeta potential and elemental analysis techniques were used to characterize the materials, and the properties of the materials were tested by a batch adsorption method. The results show that the specific surface area of PCM-N is 1600.67 m2/g, and the maximum adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) is 402.9 mg/g, and the performance was better than that of a similar materials (Longan seed and Fox nutshell and so on). Furthermore, the adsorption capacity will increase with increasing temperature. In this study, the kinetics and isotherm model of adsorption parameters are fitted, and it is found that the adsorption process is in accordance with the Pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich model, thermodynamic parameters show that the adsorption of Cr(VI) onto the PCM-N was spontaneous endothermic process. The regeneration adsorption experiment showed that PCM-N has good reusability and high application value.

Abstract
The electrochemical behavior when the liquid–liquid interface was modified by commercially available, microporous silicon nitride membrane, was achieved using cyclic voltammetry with tetramethyl ammonium. The transfer characteristics of the ionizable drug diclofenac ( DCF − ), as an anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, antipyretic, and analgesic treatment in common use in biomedical applications, were also investigated across microporous silicon nitride-modified liquid interface. Thus, some thermodynamic variables for DCF − , such as the standard Gibbs energy of transfer, the standard transfer potential and lipophilicity were estimated. Furthermore, the influence of possible interfering substances (ascorbic acid, sugar, amino acid, urea, and metal ions) on the detection of DCF − was investigated. An electrochemical DCF sensor is investigated using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) as the quantification technique, a linear range of 8–56 µM and a limit of detection of 1.5 µM was possible due to the miniaturized interfaces formed within silicon nitride.

Abstract
A novel chemosensor L based on coumarin Schiff-base was synthesized and investigated. Sensor L showed remarkable selectivity for Al(3+) in Tris-HCl aqueous buffer solution (pH 7.2), and the selectivity was not affected by the presence of a large excess of other competitive ions. The sensor responded rapidly to Al(3+) in aqueous solutions with a 2:1 stoichiometry. Meanwhile, it indicated significant improvement of quantum efficiency and ideal fluorescent lifetime.

Abstract
A strip of tethered rhodamine carbon nanodots (C-dots) was designed for selective detection of Al(3+) ion using a Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based ratiometric sensing mechanism. The probe consisted of rhodamine B moieties immobilized on the surface of water-soluble C-dots. Upon exposure to Al(3+), the rhodamine moieties showed a much enhanced emission intensity via energy transfer from the C-dots under excitation at their absorption wavelength. The detection mechanism was related to the Al(3+)-induced ring-opening of rhodamine on C-dots through the chelation of the rhodamine 6G moiety with Al(3+), leading to a spectral overlap of the absorption of C-dots (donor) and the emission of ring-opened rhodamine (acceptor). In addition, a paper-based sensor strip containing the tethered rhodamine C-dots was prepared for practical, versatile applications of Al(3+) sensing. The paper-based sensor could detect Al(3+) over other metal ions efficiently, even from a mixture of metal ions, with increased emission intensity at long-wavelength emission via FRET. Sensing based on FRET of C-dots is color-tunable, can be recognized with a naked eye, and may provide a new platform for specific metal-ion sensing.

Abstract
Hydrazine and phenol are two important environmental pollutants. In this work, an electrochemical sensor for the selective and sensitive detection of hydrazine in presence of phenol was developed by the bulk modification of carbon paste electrode (CPE) with TiO2 nanoparticles and Mn(III) salen. Large peak separation, good sensitivity, and stability allow this modified electrode to analyze hydrazine individually and simultaneously along with phenol. Applying square wave voltammetry (SWV), a linear dynamic range of 3 × 10(-8)-4.0 × 10(-4) M with detection limit of 10.0 nM was obtained for hydrazine. Finally, the proposed method was applied to the determination of hydrazine and phenol in some real samples.

Abstract
A novel carbon paste electrode modified with graphene oxide nanosheets and an ionic liquid (n-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluoro phosphate) was fabricated. The electrochemical study of the modified electrode, as well as its efficiency for voltammetric oxidation of bisphenol A, is described. The electrode was also employed to study the electrochemical oxidation of bisphenol A, using cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, square wave voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy as diagnostic techniques. Square wave voltammetry exhibits a linear dynamic range from 9.0 × 10(-8) to 2.5 × 10(-4) M and a detection limit of 55.0 nM for bisphenol A. Finally, this new sensor was used for determination of bisphenol A in water samples using the standard addition method.
