Abstract
A ratiometric electrochemical sensor featuring a benzoquinone-modified vertically aligned mesoporous silica film (BQ/VMSF) has been developed for the accurate detection of diclofenac (DCF), a widely utilized non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The design process employed the Electrochemical assisted self-assembly (EASA) technique to grow a thiol-functionalized mesoporous silica film on a carbon screen-printed electrode, which was further modified with benzoquinone via click chemistry. Characterization using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) confirmed the successful synthesis and optimal functionality of the mesoporous structure. In this configuration, benzoquinone serves as an internal redox reference, generating one redox signal, while the electrochemical oxidation of diclofenac produces a second redox signal. The sensor's output is derived from the ratio of these two signals, IDCF/IBQ, enhancing its sensitivity and selectivity for diclofenac detection. The sensor, tested through Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV), exhibited a linear response range from 1 to 10 μM for diclofenac and a remarkably low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.73 μM. Application of the sensor for diclofenac analysis in pharmaceutical formulations demonstrated recovery rates ranging from 97.68 % to 101.79 % and relative errors below 2.32 %, affirming its practical utility.

Abstract
In this work, a novel nanocomposite containing zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 decorated silica nanoparticles/graphene oxide nanosheets (ZIF-67/SiO2NPs/GONs) was synthesized and used for the fabrication of the modified glassy carbon electrode for individual and simultaneous electrodetermination of paracetamol (PAR) and diclofenac (DIC) at trace levels. Structural and morphological characterization of the nanocomposite were carried out using suitable techniques. The modified electrode; ZIF-67/SiO2NPs/GONs/GCE, exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activities toward the oxidation of PAR and DIC than the bare GCE, GONs/GCE, SiO2NPs/GONs/GCE and ZIF-67/GCE. Through using differential pulse voltammetry, the individual and simultaneous determination of PAR and DIC were conducted by the ZIF-67/SiO2NPs/GONs/GCE. Under optimal conditions, it has been observed that the calibration plots for PAR and DIC exhibit linearity within the concentration ranges of 0.5-190 (PAR) and 0.5-200 µM (DIC), with detection limits of 0.29 and 0.132 µM for PAR and DIC, respectively. The ZIF-67/SiO2NPs/GONs/GCE shows commendable stability, reproducibility, and repeatability, and the proposed method is evaluated by individual and simultaneous determination of PAR and DIC in real samples with satisfactory results (recovery > 97%).

Abstract
Diclofenac (DCF), a contaminant of emerging concern, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug widely detected in water bodies, which demonstrated harmful acute and chronic toxicity toward algae, zooplankton and aquatic invertebrates, therefore its removal from impacted water is necessary. DCF is recalcitrant toward traditional treatment technologies, thus, innovative approaches are required. Among them, electrochemical oxidation (EO) has shown promising results. In this research, an innovative multidisciplinary approach is proposed to assess the electrochemical oxidation (EO) of diclofenac from wastewater by integrating the investigations on the removal efficiency and by-product identification with the disinfection capacity and the assessment of the effect on environmental geno-toxicity of by-products generated through the oxidation. The electrochemical treatment successfully degraded DCF by achieving >98 % removal efficiency, operating with NaCl 0.02 M at 50 A m-2. By-product identification analyses showed the formation of five DCF parental compounds generated by decarboxylic and CN cleavage reactions. The disinfection capacity of the EO technique was evaluated by carrying out microbiological tests on pathogens generally found in aquatic environments, including two rod-shaped Gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli), one rod-shaped Gram-positive bacterium (Bacillus atrophaeus), and one Gram-positive coccus (Enterococcus hirae). Eco-toxicity was evaluated in freshwater organisms (algae, rotifers and crustaceans) belonging to two trophic levels through acute and chronic tests. Genotoxicity tests were carried out by Comet assay, and relative expression levels of catalase, manganese and copper superoxide dismutase genes in crustaceans. Results highlight the effectiveness of EO for the degradation of diclofenac and the inactivation of pathogens; however, the downstream mixture results in being harmful to the aquatic ecosystem.

Abstract
Sodium diclofenac (DCF) presence reported in water use cycle at various concentrations including trace levels necessitates continuous development of advanced analytical method for its determination. In this work, ease electrochemical methods for DCF determination based on voltammetric and amperometric techniques were proposed using a simple combination of graphene with multi-walled carbon nanotubes as paste electrode. Integration of the graphene with multi-walled carbon nanotubes enlarged the electroactive surface area of the electrode and implicitly enhanced the electrochemical response for DCF determination. On the basis of the sorption autocatalytic effect manifested at low concentration of DCF, we found that the preconcentration step applied prior to differential-pulsed voltammetry (DPV) and multiple-pulsed amperometry (MPA) allowed for the enhancement of the electroanalytical performance of the DCF electrochemical detections, which were validated by testing in tap water. The lowest limit of detection (LOD) of 1.40 ng·L−1 was found using preconcentration prior to DPV under optimized operating conditions, which is better than that reached by other carbon-based electrodes reported in the literature.

Abstract
Background:
This review investigates the ophthalmic drugs that have been studied with
voltammetry in the web of science database in the last 10 years.
Introduction:
Ophthalmic drugs are used in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of various ophthalmological
diseases and conditions. A significant literature has emerged in recent years that investigates
determination of these active compounds via electroanalytical methods, particularly voltammetry. Low
cost, rapid determination, high availability, efficient sensitivity and simple application make voltammetry
one of the most used methods for determining various kinds of drugs including ophthalmic ones.
Methods:
In this particular review, we searched the literature via the web of science database for ophthalmic
drugs which are investigated with voltammetric techniques using the keywords of voltammetry,
electrochemistry, determination and electroanalytical methods.
Results:
We found 33 types of pharmaceuticals in nearly 140 articles. We grouped them clinically into
seven major groups as antibiotics, antivirals, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anti-glaucomatous
drugs, steroidal drugs, local anesthetics and miscellaneous. Voltammetric techniques, electrodes, optimum
pHs, peak potentials, limit of detection values, limit of quantification values, linearity ranges,
sample type and interference effects were compared.
Conclusion:
Ophthalmic drugs are widely used in the clinic and it is important to determine trace
amounts of these species analytically. Voltammetry is a preferred method for its ease of use, high sensitivity,
low cost, and high availability for the determination of ophthalmic drugs as well as many other
medical drugs. The low limits of detection values indicate that voltammetry is quite sufficient for determining
ophthalmic drugs in many media such as human serum, urine and ophthalmic eye drops.

Abstract
A simple, sensitive and time-saving differential-pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetric (DPAdSV) procedure using a screen-printed carbon electrode modified with carboxyl functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (SPCE/MWCNTs-COOH) for the determination of diclofenac (DF) is presented. The sensor was characterized using optical profilometry, SEM, and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The use of carboxyl functionalized MWCNTs as a SPCE modifier improved the electron transfer process and the active surface area of sensor. Under optimum conditions, very sensitive results were obtained with a linear range of 0.1–10.0 nmol L−1 and a limit of detection value of 0.028 nmol L−1. The SPCE/MWCNTs-COOH also exhibited satisfactory repeatability, reproducibility, and selectivity towards potential interferences. Moreover, for the first time, the electrochemical sensor allows determining the real concentrations of DF in environmental water samples without sample pretreatment steps.

Abstract
Hydrophilic organic micropollutants are commonly detected in source water used for drinking water production. Effective technologies to remove these micropollutants from water include adsorption onto granular activated carbon in fixed-bed filters. The rate-determining step in adsorption using activated carbon is usually the adsorbate diffusion inside the porous adsorbent. The presence of mesopores can facilitate diffusion, resulting in higher adsorption rates. We used two different types of granular activated carbon, with and without mesopores, to study the adsorption rate of hydrophilic micropollutants. Furthermore, equilibrium studies were performed to determine the affinity of the selected micropollutants for the activated carbons. A pore diffusion model was applied to the kinetic data to obtain pore diffusion coefficients. We observed that the adsorption rate is influenced by the molecular size of the micropollutant as well as the granular activated carbon pore size.

Abstract
Background:
Diclofenac is a widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Recent
studies have shown that frequent consumption of this drug in high concentrations can cause heart diseases,
so strict control of diclofenac’s quantity in commercial drugs is necessary. This paper presents
the development of an optimized voltammetric methodology for the quantification of diclofenac,
which offers some advantages over other electrochemical and accepted methods.
Objective:
Optimize with a Box-Behnken design the differential pulse voltammetry parameters towards
the quantification of diclofenac in pharmaceutical samples.
Methods:
Diclofenac behavior in the working electrode was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry, in order
to stablish the best conditions for diclofenac’s quantification. A Box-Behnken design was then used to
optimize the differential pulse voltammetry parameters and stablish the analytical behavior of the proposed
methodology. Commercial tablets were prepared for analysis according to the Pharmacopeia,
the DPV optimized methodology was used to quantify diclofenac in the samples, and the results were
statistically compared with those obtained with the official methodology.
Results:
After optimization, the analytical parameters found were: correlation coefficient of 0.998, detection
limit of 0.001 µM, quantification limit of 0.0033 µM and sensitivity of 0.299 µA.µM-1. The
statistical analysis showed there were no significant differences between the results obtained with the
proposed methodology and those obtained with the official methodology.
Conclusion:
The statistical analysis showed that the proposed methodology is as reliable as the official
spectrophotometric one for the quantification of diclofenac in commercial drugs, with very competitive
analytical parameters, and even better to others found with more complex electrodes.
