Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a global health problem due to its high death and morbidity worldwide, which is characterized by an incompletely reversible limitation in airflow that is not fully reversible. Unfortunately, Western medical treatments are unable to reverse the progressive decline in lung function. Importantly, polyphenolic compounds isolated from Chinese herbal medicine exhibited therapeutic/interventional effects on COPD in preclinical studies. This review systematically analyzed the pathogenesis of COPD, such as inflammation, oxidative stress, protease/antiprotease imbalance, aging, cell death, and dysbiosis of gut microbiota. Moreover, this review summarized the regulatory mechanisms of natural polyphenolic compounds for the treatment of COPD. Several studies have demonstrated that natural polyphenolic compounds have therapeutic effects on COPD by regulating various biological processes, such as anti-inflammatory, reduction of oxidative damage, anti-cell death, and inhibition of airway hyperglycemia. Mechanistically, this review found that the promising effects of natural polyphenolic compounds on COPD were mainly achieved through modulating the NF-κB and MAPK inflammatory pathways, the Nrf2 oxidative stress pathway, and the SIRT1/PGC-1α lung injury pathway. Furthermore, this review analyzed the efficacy and safety of natural polyphenolic compounds for the treatment of COPD in clinical trials, and discussed their challenges and future development directions. In conclusion, this review combined the latest literature to illustrate the various pathogenesis and interrelationships of COPD in the form of graphs, texts, and tables, and sorted out the functional role and mechanisms of natural polyphenols in treating COPD, with a view to providing new ideas and plans for the in-depth research on COPD and the systemic treatment of COPD with Chinese herbal medicine.

Abstract
Pterostilbene (PST), a 3',5'-O-methylated derivative of resveratrol (RSV), is a potent natural antioxidant produced by some plants in trace amounts as defense compound. It exhibits various health-promoting activities, such as anticancer, antiviral, and antimicrobial effects. Large-scale biosynthesis of PST is crucial due to the challenges associated with extracting it from plants. This study aims to develop an efficient method for PST production using an engineered Escherichia coli strain by feeding RSV as a precursor. We introduced a two-step substrate addition strategy combined with immobilized RSV (IMRSV) on macroporous adsorption resin (MAR) to enhance PST production. Five MARs were selected for RSV immobilization, and the substrate addition strategy and fermentation parameters for PST synthesis were optimized. A maximum PST concentration of 403 ± 9 mg/L was achieved, representing a 239% increase over the control, which in a one-step addition of free RSV. The PST titer reached 395 ± 24 mg/L in a 3-L bioreactor. In conclusion, the combination of a two-step substrate addition system and IMRSV is a promising approach for the economical and industrial-scale production of PST.

Abstract
In this work, surface molecularly imprinted polymers based on magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes were prepared for the specific recognition and adsorption of resveratrol. The functionalization of magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes and the synthesis process of surface molecularly imprinted polymers were optimized. Characterizations were performed to demonstrate the successful synthesis of the imprinted materials. The imprinted materials showed satisfactory adsorption capacity of resveratrol (45.73 ± 1.72 mg/g) and excellent selectivity (imprinting factor 2.89 ± 0.15). In addition, the imprinted materials were used as adsorbents in molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction for the purification of resveratrol from crude extracts of some food and medicinal resources, achieving recoveries of 93.69%-95.53% with high purities of 88.37%-92.33%. Moreover, the purified products exhibited extremely strong free radical scavenging activity compared with crude extracts. Overall, this work provided a promising approach for the highly selective purification of resveratrol from natural resources, which would contribute to the application of this valuable compound in the food/nutraceutical fields.

Abstract
Moutan Cortex (MC) is a traditional Chinese medicine that contains abundant medicinal components, such as paeonol, paeoniflorin, etc. Paeonol is the main active component of MC. In this study, paeonol was extracted from MC through an ultrasound-assisted extraction process, which is based on single-factor experiments and response surface methodology (RSM). Subsequently, eight macroporous resins of different properties were used to purify paeonol from MC. The main components of the purified extract were identified by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight-mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS). The results indicate the optimal parameters are as follows: liquid-to-material ratio 21:1 mL/g, ethanol concentration 62%, ultrasonic time 31 min, ultrasonic temperature 36 °C, ultrasonic power 420 W. Under these extraction conditions, the actual yield of paeonol was 14.01 mg/g. Among the eight tested macroporous resins, HPD-300 macroporous resin was verified to possess the highest adsorption and desorption qualities. The content of paeonol increased from 6.93% (crude extract) to 41.40% (purified extract) after the HPD-300 macroporous resin treatment. A total of five major phenolic compounds and two principal monoterpene glycosides were characterized by comparison with reference compounds. These findings will make a contribution to the isolation and utilization of the active components from MC.

Abstract
This study aimed to extract and purify polyphenols from Acanthopanax senticosus. A new green method was developed, in which ionic liquids (ILs) were used as aqueous two-phase (ATP) adjuvants to extract the polyphenols from A. senticosus. An ionic liquid-assisted aqueous two-phase system (IL-ATPS) was established. The purification of the polyphenols from the extraction fluid by AB-8 macroporous resin was conducted, and the kinetic mechanisms were studied. The reuse of ionic liquids was executed. The results showed that an [OMIM]Br-assisted ethanol/NaH2PO4 system (IL-ATPS) was the best extraction solvent. In this study, the following optimal extraction conditions were determined: 32 wt.% ethanol, 25 wt.% NaH2PO4, 9 wt.% additional ionic liquid, a solid-liquid ratio of 1:40 g/mL, an extraction temperature of 50 °C, a pH of 4.0, an extraction time of 50 min, and an extraction rate of the polyphenols at 15.90 mg/g. The optimum adsorption parameters of the macroporous resin AB-8 were as follows: a flow rate of 3.5 BV·h-1, a sample volume of 40 mL, an elution flow rate of 3.5 BV·h-1, an eluent volume of 80 mL, and an eluant that was constituted by an 85% volume fraction of ethanol. The decolorization effect of 4% activated carbon was better than the other amounts; in addition, a decolorization rate of 76.81% and an ionic liquid recovery rate of 81.12% were found to be the most optimal. Compared with the traditional extraction methods, IL-ATPS has the advantages of requiring simple operation, saving time, and high efficiency. In addition, it can be used for the extraction of the polyphenolic compounds.

Abstract
Enrichment of antiplatelet peptides from silver carp skin collagen hydrolysates (CH) was studied using macroporous resins. Static adsorption showed that XAD-16 resin was the suitable resin due to its high adsorption capacity. The dynamic desorption of CH was studied on XAD-16 resin by ethanol gradient elution. Interestingly, pH value of loading sample had a great impact on the peptides separation. Results revealed that the yield and the antiplatelet activity of Ethl-20% fraction were highest at loading sample pH 6.0. The antiplatelet peptides were enriched in the 20% ethanol fraction with IC50 2.03 mg/mL compared to IC50 of CH, 4.7 mg/mL. Besides, the Ethl-20% fraction had a weakest fishy odor. Moreover, a series of peptides containing Hyp-Gly or Pro-Gly were identified from Ethl-20% fraction, which contributed to the antiplatelet activities. This study provided a simple and efficient method for large-scale separation enrichment of antiplatelet peptides as functional foods from CH.

Abstract
The aim of current study was to optimize the extraction process and purification of main components (MC) to obtain high antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effective fractions from crabapple (Malus prunifolia (Willd.) Borkh.). The effects of three variables including ethanol concentration A1, solid-liquid ratio A2, extraction temperature A3 were investigated and optimized by response surface methodology (RSM) coupled with Box-Behnken design (BBD). The adsorption/desorption characteristics of MC on the five types of macroporous resins were investigated. According to batch adsorption test, HPD-300 resins were selected for kinetics. The adsorption mechanism showed that the process was appropriate by pseudo-second-order kinetics model, and purification parameters of MC were optimized through adsorption/desorption experiments with the column packed by HPD-300 resin. The effective fractions were obviously superior to other fractions according to DPPH, ABTS, COX-2 and 15-LOX radical scavenging. This work implies that the purified active fraction with high contents of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds from crabapple might be potential source for natural products and food industries.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The quantitative analysis of trace resveratrol and polydatin in plant tissues is suitable for elucidation of the compounds' mechanisms of action. OBJECTIVES The main objective of this work was to develop a feasible and effective sample pretreatment method to measure the concentrations of resveratrol and polydatin in complex samples. METHODOLOGY A polymer sorbent, poly(2-mercaptobenzimidazole), was electrochemically prepared and utilized for selective extraction, while resveratrol and polydatin were used as target analytes. The sorbent was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. After extraction and elution, the analytes were analyzed by a Thermo U3000 HPLC system. Several affecting parameters, including the volume of elution solution, sample pH value, sample flow rate and sample volume, were evaluated and optimized. RESULTS The proposed method showed good linearity with low limits of detection (from 0.5 to 0.8 ng·mL-1 ) and ideal accuracy with spiked recoveries from 81.30% to 99.16%. A good enrichment factor (more than 200-fold) together with good sensitivity was obtained with this method. Analysis of resveratrol and polydatin in Polygonum cuspidatum samples by this method is efficient. CONCLUSION The method developed in this work exhibits several significant merits, including easy operation and high extraction efficiency, indicating that electrochemically prepared polymer sorbent is useful for sample pretreatment and analysis of traditional Chinese medicine samples.

Extraction and Purification of (E)-Resveratrol from the Bark of Conifer Species. Processes (Basel) 2022. Abstract
(E)-Resveratrol is a naturally occurring polyphenolic compound in plants with a variety of widely studied health benefits. The bark of Northern American, Canadian, and Northern European conifer species, which is an underutilized by-product generated by forest industries, is a source of (E)-resveratrol, providing a potential value-added product for these industries. Bark may serve as a good alternative to the invasive plant Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum), which currently is the leading commercial source of (E)-resveratrol. This work describes a method to extract and purify (E)-resveratrol from conifer bark with high yield and high purity and investigates the relationship between the amount of (E)-resveratrol and the total phenolic contents in the bark of common conifer species. In this work, barks of four conifer species were extracted and the total phenolic contents were determined by Folin–Cicoalteu’s assay. The (E)-resveratrol content was determined by HPLC-MS. A purification method that utilizes solvent extraction and column chromatography was developed to isolate (E)-resveratrol in high yield from black spruce (Picea mariana) bark. The quantitative analysis of bark samples suggests the presence of (E)-resveratrol in black spruce (Picea mariana) and Norway spruce (Picea abies), in comparable amounts to Japanese knotweed. Based on HPLC-MS and HPLC-UV analyses, the purification method isolates the compound with a yield of 84% and purity of 99%. Hence, our method extracts and isolates (E)-resveratrol from conifer bark in high purity and high yield. The results do not support any correlation between the total phenolic content and the amount of (E)-resveratrol.

Abstract
Phyllanthus emblica L. pomace is a waste residue obtained following juicing that contains many polyphenols. In this study, NKA-II resin was selected as the optimal macroporous resin for separation and employed to separate the crude polyphenol extract of P. emblica pomace. The separation conditions were optimized, and the polyphenol content, polyphenol components, antioxidant activity, and potential anti-Alzheimer's effects of the extract were measured before and after purification. Results showed that the polyphenol content of the purified extract was 656.85 mg/g, which was 2.1 times higher than that of the nonpurified form. Further, the polyphenol components of the pomace, which was like that of the fruit, did not vary after purification. The antioxidant activity of the purified extract was also significantly improved. Moreover, purified extract significantly reduced the paralysis rate of the transgenic Caenorhabditis elegans model of Alzheimer's disease, and the mechanism was related to maintenance of redox homeostasis. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: The polyphenol content and antioxidant activity of purified polyphenol from Phyllanthus emblica L. pomace extracts were significantly improved using optimal separation methods with NKA-II macroporous resin and 70% aqueous ethanol as the eluent in this study. Moreover, purified polyphenols showed potential effects in alleviating Alzheimer's disease. These results suggest that polyphenols separated from P. emblica pomace are valuable for further research and development, and the utilization rate of P. emblica fruit is improved due to the further development of P. emblica pomace.

Abstract
Scalable preparation of graphene with high adsorption capacity is an important prerequisite for fully realizing its commercial application. Herein, we propose an environmentally friendly route for exfoliation of graphene, which is established based on the Diels–Alder reaction. In our route, N-(4-hydroxyl phenyl) maleimide enters between the flakes as an intercalating agent and participates in the Diels–Alder reaction as a dienophile to increase the interlayer spacing of graphite. Then, graphite is exfoliated into graphene with the aid of ultrasound. The exfoliated product is hydroxyl phenyl functionalized graphene with a thickness of 0.5–1.5 nm and an average lateral size of about 500–800 nm. The exfoliation process does not involve any acid or catalyst and would be a safe and environmentally friendly approach. In addition, the exfoliated graphite shows high resveratrol adsorption capacity, which is ten times that of macroporous resins reported in the literature. Thus, the method proposed herein yields exfoliated graphite with high resveratrol adsorption capacity and is of great significance for the mass production of graphene for practical applications.

Abstract
In this study, an efficient method for the purification of resistant dextrin (RD) using membrane filtration and anion exchange resin decolorization was developed, then the purified RD was characterized. In the membrane filtration stage, suspended solids in RD were completely removed, and the resulting product had a negligible turbidity of 2.70 ± 0.18 NTU. Furthermore, approximately half of the pigments were removed. Static decolorization experiments revealed that the D285 anion exchange resin exhibited the best decolorization ratio (D%), 84.5 ± 2.03%, and recovery ratio (R%), 82.8 ± 1.41%, among all the tested resins. Under optimal dynamic decolorization conditions, the D% and R% of RD were 86.26 ± 0.63% and 85.23 ± 0.42%, respectively. The decolorization efficiency of the D285 resin was superior to those of activated carbon and H2O2. Moreover, the chemical characteristics and molecular weight of RD did not change significantly after purification. The nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of RD showed the formation of new glycosidic linkages that are resistant to digestive enzymes. The superior water solubility (99.14%), thermal stability (up to 200 °C), and rheological properties of RD make it possible to be widely used in food industry.

Abstract
Peanut sprouts are a functional food material rich in phytochemicals, including trans-resveratrol. This study aimed to optimize the recovery of trans-resveratrol from peanut sprouts using a combination of peanut varieties and sawdust medium through accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) and the response surface method (RSM). We also aimed to determine the antioxidant activity of this trans-resveratrol extract. Optimal fermentation periods of sawdust and peanut variety for cultivating peanut sprouts were determined on the basis of trans-resveratrol content via high-performance liquid chromatography. The extraction variables temperature, static time, and ethanol concentration were used to create a 20-sample set fit to a second-order polynomial equation through multiple regression analysis (R2 = 0.8787, P < 0.01). Trans-resveratrol content (19.62 ± 2.33 µg/g) peaked in the Palgwang variety cultured in sawdust medium fermented for 45 days. Optimal conditions for ASE were determined regarding the extraction temperature (90.29 °C), static time (3.95 min), and solvent (81.54% EtOH/water), and the predicted trans-resveratrol content under optimal conditions was 30.23 µg/g. Sawdust medium was more effective in increasing the trans-resveratrol content than conventional hydroponics, and the optimized process of combining fermented sawdust cultivation for harvesting peanut sprouts with ASE has potential as an efficient method of obtaining mass quantities of trans-resveratrol from peanut sprouts with improved nutritional and functional properties. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: This study showed that sawdust medium is more effective than hydroponics in increasing the trans-resveratrol content in peanut sprouts. The recovery of trans-resveratrol from peanut sprouts and its antioxidant activity were optimized via accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) and the response surface methodology (RSM). The optimized process of combining fermented sawdust cultivation for harvesting peanut sprouts with ASE potentially provides an efficient method to obtain mass quantities of trans-resveratrol from peanut sprouts with improved nutritional and functional properties.

Abstract
Resveratrol, found in variety of plants, is a natural stilbene structure polyphenol. It has various pharmacological effects, such as antioxidation, anti-aging, anti-inflammation, anti-cancer, antiobesity, anti-diabetes, cardioprotection, neuroprotection. Recently, anti-leukemia activities of resveratrol has been studied extensively via its effects on a variety of biological processes involving cell proliferation, apoptosis, autophagy. Current treatments of leukemia mainly rely on intensive chemotherapy or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, however, these treatments are still with poor survival and high treatment-related mortality. Therefore, it is extremely needed to find relatively non-toxic medicines with minimal side effects but sufficient therapeutic efficacy. Resveratrol is one such potential candidate owing to its reported anti-leukemia effect. In this review, we summarized resveratrol's discovery, sources and isolation methods, administration methods, effects in different types of leukemia, pharmacokinetics and toxicities, aiming to exploit resveratrol as a potential drug candidate for anti-leukemia.

Abstract
Resveratrol (Res) is a multi-functional polyphenol compound that has protective functions in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. This study aimed to determine the effect of Res on osteogenic differentiation and bone mineralization in zebrafish (Danio rerio) with dexamethasone (Dex)-induced bone damage. Our results showed that Dex exposure (15 μmol/l) decreased the green fluorescence areas and the integrated optic density (IOD) values in the skull bones of zebrafish larvae of the TG(SP7:EGFP) strain in a dose-dependent manner (p < 0.01). Furthermore, Dex exposure decreased the alizarin red S-stained areas (bone mineralization area) in the skeleton and spinal bones of zebrafish larvae of the AB strain in a dose-dependent manner (p < 0.01). By contrast, Res treatment (150 μmol/l) significantly increased both the green fluorescence and bone mineralization area in Dex-exposed zebrafish larvae. Thus, our data show that Res improves bone mineralization after glucocorticoid-induced bone damage in a zebrafish model. Res may be a candidate drug for the prevention of osteoporosis.

Abstract
Industrial processing of glycyrrhizic leads to a lot of residues which are usually threw away randomly or used as feed. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to study licorice residues as a source of bioactive compounds with potentially applications. In this study, the enrichment and purification of total flavones from the licorice residues was achieved by using macroporous resins. The performances and separation characteristics of four selected macroporous resins with different chemical and physical properties were investigated. HPD-100 resin was the most effective, the content of total flavones increased from 50.94% in the original extract to 82.98% in the 80% ethanol fraction (a 1.63-fold increase). Further purification treatment by polyamide resin, licochalcone A with a purity of 80.28% was obtained in a 45% ethanol fraction, and a higher purity (>85%) of licochalcone A can be obtained by single crystallization operation. And hypoglycemic effect of the total flavones from licorice residues on high fat diet and STZ induced diabetic c57 mice was preliminary investigated. The results showed: the fasting blood glucose of mice in the low and medium dose total flavones group decreased significantly. The proposed technique is uncomplicated, easily managed, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly and is proper for both large-scale licorice residues application and waste management.

Abstract
Deep eutectic solvents (DESs), a new group of ecofriendly solvent combined with the ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) technique, were first successfully used for extraction of resveratrol from peanut roots. Resveratrol in the extract was analyzed and quantified using a HPLC-UV method. A series of DESs consisting of choline chloride (ChCl) and 1,4-butanediol, citric acid, and ethylene glycol were formulated, finding ChCl/1,4-butanediol was a most proper extraction system. The optimal extraction parameters were obtained using a Box–Behnken design (BBD) test combined with response surface methodology as follows: 40% of water in ChCl/1,4-butanediol (1/3, g/g) at 55°C for 40 min and solid/liquid ratio of 1:30 g/mL. The total extraction content and extraction yield of resveratrol from peanut roots could reach 38.91 mg/kg and 88.19%, respectively, under such optimal conditions. The present study will provide a typical example for using DESs to extract natural bioactive compounds from plants.

Abstract
This study investigated an efficient and recyclable approach for purification of crude pumpkin oligosaccharide (POS) by macroporous resins. Five resins with different physical and chemical properties were tested for decoloration of POS. In virtue of its higher decoloration ratio (92.6%) and POS recovery ratio (81.3%), the macroporous resin DM28 was considered to a better selection. Depending on the changes of molecular weight, part of the monosaccharides in crude POS were removed simultaneously after decoloration by DM28. Operating conditions were also determined by the dynamic breakthrough and desorption curves. Moreover, UV/vis spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared results revealed that most of the colored impurities and proteins can be removed, but the characteristic groups of the POS exhibited no significant difference. Compared with traditional methods, DM28 resin is superior in decoloration efficiency, pigment recovery and oligosaccharide recovery. This research contributes to further exploration on the structure and function of POS.

Abstract
Resveratrol has been extracted from grape leaves by ultrasound-assisted extraction with aqueous ethanol and further concentrated on a column of mesoporous carbon. The ethanol concentration, extraction temperature, solid/liquid ratio, and extraction time have been investigated, and the extraction kinetics has been studied. After one treatment run with mesoporous carbon, the resveratrol purity was improved from 2.1 to 20.6%. The antioxidant activities of grape leaf extracts before and after concentration have been analyzed. Mesoporous carbon has been applied in the purification of resveratrol from grape leaves for the first time, and it is shown to offer a promising procedure in this field. Grape leaf is a promising material for the extraction of resveratrol, which shows antioxidant properties.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Muscadine grape pomace, a by-product of juicing and wine-making, contains significant amounts of anthocyanin 3,5-diglucosides, known to be beneficial to human health. RESULTS The objective of this research was to use mathematical modeling to investigate the adsorption/desorption characteristics of these anthocyanins from muscadine grape pomace on Amberlite FPX66 resin in a fixed bed column. Anthocyanins were extracted using hot water and ultrasound, and the extracts were loaded onto a resin column at five bed depths (5, 6, 8, 10 and 12 cm) using three flow rates (4, 6 and 8 mL min-1 ). It was found that adsorption on the column fitted the bed depth service time (BDST) model and the empty bed residence time (EBRT) model. Desorption was achieved by eluting the column using ethanol at four concentrations (25, 40, 55 and 70% v/v) and could be described with an empirical sigmoid model. The breakthrough curves of anthocyanins fitted the BDST model for all three flow rates with R2 values of 0.983, 0.992 and 0.984 respectively. The EBRT model was successfully employed to find the operating lines, which allow for column scale-up while still achieving similar results to those found in a laboratory operation. Desorption with 40% (v/v) ethanol achieved the highest recovery rate of anthocyanins at 79.6%. CONCLUSION The mathematical models established in this study can be used in designing a pilot/industrial- scale column for the separation and concentration of anthocyanins from muscadine juice pomace. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
This paper reviews the potential of stilbenoids as nutraceuticals. Stilbenoid compounds in wine are considered key factors in health-promoting benefits. Resveratrol and resveratrol-related compounds are found in a large diversity of vegetal products. The stilbene composition varies from wine to wine and from one season to another. Therefore, the article also reviews how food science and technology and wine industry may help in providing wines and/or food supplements with efficacious concentrations of stilbenes. The review also presents results from clinical trials and those derived from genomic/transcriptomic studies. The most studied stilbenoid, resveratrol, is a very safe compound. On the other hand, the potential benefits of stilbene intake are multiple and are apparently due to downregulation more than upregulation of gene expression. The field may take advantage from identifying the mechanism of action(s) and from providing useful data to show evidence for specific health benefits in a given tissue or for combating a given disease.

Abstract

Adsorption
can be an effective way of purifying polyphenols from
complex mixtures. However, polyphenols may be present in small concentrations,
making it difficult to selectively adsorb them onto standard hydrophobic
resins and obtain appreciable adsorption. In this work, nonfunctionalized
hydrophobic resins (Amberlite XAD-7HP, XAD-16) are compared with functionalized
resins with imidazole (Biotage RENSA PX) and pyridine (RENSA PY) in
terms of capacity and selectivity toward p-coumaric
acid, trans-resveratrol, and naringenin. The obtained
results indicate that, due to hydrogen bonding, the functionalized
resins provide more capacity (e.g., 80 mg·g–1 vs 11.3 mg·g–1 for trans-resveratrol) and up to five times more selectivity than standard
resins. Despite such strong affinity, at low pH, the isotherm slope
can decrease up to four times when compared to the XAD resins for
the same ethanol content, making desorption easier. The included isotherm
data is enough to model any chromatography dynamic simulation for
the studied compounds.

Abstract
Peanut sprouts are gaining increasing popularity as a potential source of functional food. The objective of this study was to investigate yield and food value of peanut sprouts of six Korean peanut genotypes (Daekwang, Akwang, Baekjung, Alogi, Pungan and Heugttangkong) from day 5 through 9. Functional compounds like polyphenol, flavonoid, and resveratrol contents were significantly (p < 0.05) high in the sprouts compared to those in the seeds. Pungan yielded significantly (p < 0.05) high sprouts followed by Alogi. However, antioxidant potentials and functional compounds in the sprouts varied significantly (p < 0.05) with genotype, sprout part, and day after germination. Overall consideration of the yield, functional compounds, and antioxidant potentials of the sprouts suggested that more appropriate time of sprout harvest for Alogi and Pungan was day 5-7 and that for the other genotypes was day 5-8. The yield and functional properties of peanut sprouts significantly varied with genotypes, parts, and age.

Abstract
Herein, we reported the successful development of novel nanocomposite films based on linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) with enhanced anti-drop, optical, mechanical, thermal and water vapor barrier properties by introducing organophilic layered double hydroxides (OLDHs) nanosheets. OLDHs loadings were varied from 0–6 wt.%. Structural analyses using the Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) indicated that the OLDHs nanosheets were homogeneously dispersed with an ordered alignment in the LLDPE matrix. The LLDPE film containing 2 wt.% OLDHs (denoted as OLDHs-2) showed the optimal mechanical, thermal and water vapor barrier properties, whilst the anti-drop and optical performance of the films improved with increasing OLDHs content. The enhanced antidrop properties of the composite films relative to pristine LLDPE can be expected to effectively reduce agricultural losses to disease when the films are applied as agricultural films, whilst the superior light transmittance and water-retaining properties of the composite films will boost agricultural production. Results presented suggest that multifunctional LLDPE/OLDHs nanocomposites show great promise as low cost agricultural plastic films.

Abstract
The vegetal species Arachis repens, commonly known as peanut grass, was studied and, for the first time, we detected the presence of the bioactive compound trans-resveratrol (t-RSV). We compared the efficiency of three different methodologies (conventional maceration [CM], ultrasound-assisted extractions [UAE], and microwave-assisted extractions [MAE]) concerning total phenolics (TP) and resveratrol (t-RSV) content, followed by antioxidant activity (AA) evaluation. By CM, at 1 h, the highest RSV content (1.024 ± 0.036 mg/L) and, correspondingly, the highest DPPH capture (23.90 ± 0.04%) were found. The TP contents, at 1 h, presented the highest value (27.26 ± 0.26 mg/g GAE). By the UAE, the maximum yields of TP (357.18 mg/g GAE) and RSV (2.14 mg/L), as well as, the highest AA (70.95%), were obtained by 5 min after a maceration pretreatment, on the solid-solvent ratio 1 : 40 w/v. For MAE, a central composite rotatable design (CCRD) was applied followed by the FFD design in order to evaluate the statistical effects of four independent variables on the extraction of RSV. The optimal conditions established for obtaining the highest recovery (2.516 mg/g) were 20 min; 90% MeOH aq.; 120 rpm; 60°C; and solid-solvent ratio: 1 : 35 w/v. Relevant correlations were established considering the TP and RSV contents, as well as the AA, corroborating obvious advantages of such techniques in terms of high extraction efficiency in shorter times.
