Integrated Cu-Au stereo microelectrode arrays and microfluidic channels for the electrochemical detection of glucose

Electrochemical needle sensor based on a B, N co-doped graphene microelectrode array for the on-site detection of salicylic acid in fruits and vegetables

In this study, a microelectrode array sensor based on boron and nitrogen co-doped vertical graphene (BNVG) was assembled to quantify salicylic acid (SA) in living plants. The influence of B and N contents on the electrochemical reaction kinetics and SA response signal was investigated. A microneedle sensor with three optimized BNVG microelectrodes (3.57 at.% B and 3.27 at.% N) was used to quantitatively analyze SA in the 0.5-100 μM concentration range and pH 4.0-9.0, with limits of detection of 0.14-0.18 μM. Additionally, a quantitative electrochemical model database based on the BNVG microelectrode sensor was constructed to monitor the growth of cucumbers and cauliflowers, which confirmed that the SA level and plant growth rate were positively correlated. Moreover, the SA levels in various vegetables and fruits purchased from the market were measured to demonstrate the practical application prospects for on-site inspection and evaluation.

Toward the Next Generation Human-Machine Interaction: Headworn Wearable Devices

Wearable devices are lightweight and portable devices worn directly on the body or integrated into the user's clothing or accessories. They are usually connected to the Internet and combined with various software applications to monitor the user's physical conditions. The latest research shows that wearable head devices, particularly those incorporating microfluidic technology, enable the monitoring of bodily fluids and physiological states. Here, we summarize the main forms, functions, and applications of head wearable devices through innovative researches in recent years. The main functions of wearable head devices are sensor monitoring, diagnosis, and even therapeutic interventions. Through this application, real-time monitoring of human physiological conditions and noninvasive treatment can be realized. Furthermore, microfluidics can realize real-time monitoring of body fluids and skin interstitial fluid, which is highly significant in medical diagnosis and has broad medical application prospects. However, despite the progress made, significant challenges persist in the integration of microfluidics into wearable devices at the current technological level. Herein, we focus on summarizing the cutting-edge applications of microfluidic contact lenses and offer insights into the burgeoning intersection between microfluidics and head-worn wearables, providing a glimpse into their future prospects.

Advances of Transition Metal-Based Electrochemical Non-enzymatic Glucose Sensors for Glucose Analysis: A Review

Glucose concentration is a crucial parameter for assessing human health. Over recent years, non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose sensors have drawn considerable attention due to their substantial progress. This review explores the common mechanism behind the transition metal-based electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose molecules through classical electrocatalytic frameworks like the Pletcher model and the Hydrous Oxide-Adatom Mediator model (IHOAM), as well as the redox reactions at the transition metal centers. It further compiles the electrochemical characterization techniques, associated formulas, and their ensuing conclusions pertinent to transition metal-based non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose sensors. Subsequently, the review covers the latest advancements in the field of transition metal-based active materials and support materials used in non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose sensors in the last decade (2014-2023). Additionally, it presents a comprehensive classification of representative studies according to the active metal catalysts components involved.
