Abstract
To investigate the quality and safety difference between agricultural standardization bases and small-scale farmers, we carried out a three-year investigation of asparagus from seven production sites of different sizes in Pinghu city, Zhejiang Province, China, from 2021 to 2023. We documented trace elements (Fe, Zn, Mn, and Cu), quality indicators (vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin C, total sugar, and proteins), and pesticide residues. The evaluation indicated that the quality of asparagus in standardization bases 1-4 was higher than that in small farmer sites 5-7. The detection rate of pesticides in asparagus was 23.81% (15/63), with a low concentration range of 0.001-0.130 mg mL-1. Low pesticide levels reflect Pinghu's effective green pest control measures. Results showed that the quality and safety of asparagus at the standardization bases are superior to those at small-scale farmer sites, and our findings may inform better management practices for both large-scale and small-scale asparagus farmers.

Abstract
Asparagus is a perennial herb and is widely used as food and medicine in China. In this study, untargeted metabolomics analysis was applied to compare the chemical differences between the edible and inedible parts of asparagus, as well as the inedible parts of white and green asparagus. A total of 342 compounds were identified in the asparagus extracts, and 24 steroid saponins, 31 oxylipins and 36 LysoGPLs were identified for the first time in asparagus. Metabolomics analysis showed that the inedible part of white asparagus is rich in steroidal saponins, oxylipins and alkaloids, while the inedible part of green asparagus is rich in flavonoids, phenolic acids, LysoGPLs and amino acids. The inedible part of white asparagus showed significantly higher inhibitory effects on breast cancer 4T-1 cells than that of green asparagus. Network pharmacology analysis and molecular docking showed that the biological difference is related to higher levels of steroidal saponins and oxylipins in the inedible part of white asparagus. This study is useful for the wasted resource utilization of inedible parts of asparagus.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Thunbergia erecta (Benth.) was traditionally used as anxiolytic, sedative and antidepressant. AIM OF THE STUDY The study aimed to characterize T. erecta leaf ethyl acetate fraction of alcohol extract (TEAF) and evaluate its neuroprotective effect on doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide-induced chemobrain. MATERIALS AND METHODS Chemical profiling of TEAF was done using (Liquid chromatography coupled with mass (LC-ESI-MS/MS). In vivo chemobrain model was performed by cognitive impairment induced by doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide. Behavioral assessments included moris water maze, y maze, novel object recognition task and passive avoidance tests. Histological examination and oxidative stress markers were investigated. Protein expression of HMDGB1/RAGE/pNF-κB pathway markers was done using western blotting. All results were applied to hippocampus and prefrontal cortex of rats. Molecular docking was done within the active sites of Human Receptor for Advanced Glycation Endproducts (RAGE) using Discovery studio software. RESULTS Twenty-one phytoconstituents, mostly polyphenolics, were characterized in TEAF of which eleven compounds were tentatively identified for the first time from T. erecta leaves where rosmarinic acid (11) represents the most prevailing compound. TEAF resulted in a marked dose-dependent amelioration of the histopathological changes evidenced by normal histological structure demonstrated in the hypocampal gesture of rats. TEAF demonstrated an enhanced memory and learning functioning in the different behavioral tests assessed especially at 200 mg/kg. It showed significant long-term spatial memory enhancement manifested by 50.32% increase in probe trial relative to chemobrain-induced group. It showed pronounced antioxidant activity evidenced by the significant elevation of prefrontal cortical and hippocampal reduced glutathione levels by 2.45 and 2.65 folds, respectively relative to the chemobrain-induced group. The pronounced reduction in hydrogen peroxide (1.24-1.93 folds) and malondialdehyde levels (1.42-2.60 folds) with significant elevation of catalase activity (12.65-31.47%) induced by TEAF supported its potent antioxidant activity. TEAF reversed the inflammatory cytokines release induced by chemotherapy via its interference with HMGB1/RAGE pathway suppressing the expression of HMBG1, RAGE, p65 (NF-kB), and IL-1β. In silico studies showed that rosmarinic acid displayed the best fitting at the active site of RAGE (ΔG = -40.39 kcal/mol). CONCLUSIONS Thunbergia erecta can act as a promising remedy for chemobrain that further consolidates its traditional importance.

Abstract
Asparagus is a popular vegetable and traditional medicine consumed worldwide due to its health benefits. The quality of asparagus, mainly attributed to small components like flavonoids and steroid, is quite differential as a result of different environments and maturities. However, the accumulation pattern and regulatory mechanism of metabolites in asparagus remain unclear so far. Herein, widely targeted metabolomics analysis was employed to study the quality and chemical composition variances of four asparagus, including three green asparagus of different maturities and one white asparagus. A total of 1045 metabolites were annotated in asparagus in which flavonoids and phenolic acids accounted for 37.51% of the total. Green asparagus was found to be rich in flavonoids, while white asparagus contained more steroids. Additionally, 461 biomarkers were screened between matured green and white asparagus, which is much more than that filtered among three green asparagus at different growth stages. These results indicated that sunlight has a stronger effect on the metabolism of asparagus compared to the general development of asparagus. Linoleic acid metabolism and alpha-linolenic acid metabolism were active during green asparagus growth, while flavone and flavonol biosynthesis and flavonoid biosynthesis resulted as two of the most important pathways when asparagus was exposed to sunlight.

Abstract
Asparagus (A. officinalis L.) is a perennial herb of the genus Asparagus that is rich in nutrients. This study aimed to distinguish three cultivars of asparagus (Paladin, Grace, and Jinggang red) based on their volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and metabolic profiles. VOCs in the three cultivars were separated and identified using electronic nose (E-nose) and gas chromatography–ion mobility spectrometry (GC–IMS). Differences in metabolites among the three cultivars were analyzed using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). E-nose and GC-IMS showed that the VOCs in asparagus differed significantly among the three groups. E-nose result showed that purple asparagus (Jinggang red) was connected to a stronger earthy odor; green asparagus (Paladin and Grace) were shown characteristic dill flavor. Moreover, 50 VOCs were detected by using GC–IMS. Ketones and alcohols were most abundant in Paladin; methyl benzoate and dimethyl sulfide were most abundance in Grace; aldehydes and acids were most abundance in Jinggang red. Moreover, 130 and 71 different metabolites were detected in the positive and negative modes among three cultivars, such as quercetin and rutin. Functional analysis revealed that these metabolites were involved in beta-alanine metabolism and ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. In summary, E-nose combined with GC-IMS and LC-MS/MS methods has good application prospects in evaluating and identifying VOCs and metabolites of different cultivars of asparagus. The identified VOCs and metabolites can provide guidelines for the development of functional asparagus products.

Abstract
Food industries produce a high amount of waste every year. These wastes represent a source of bioactive compounds to be used to produce cosmetic and nutraceutical products. In this study, the possibility to retrain food waste as a potential source of bioactive metabolites is evaluated. In particular, metabolite profiles of different parts (bulb, leaves, stems and little stems) of fennel waste were investigated by liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/LTQ Orbitrap MS). To discriminate the different plant parts, a Multivariate Data Analysis approach was developed. Metabolomic analysis allowed the identification of different metabolites mainly belonging to hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives, flavonoid glycosides, flavonoid aglycons, phenolic acids, iridoid derivatives and lignans. The identification of compounds was based on retention times, accurate mass measurements, MS/MS data, exploration on specific metabolites database and comparison with data reported in the literature for F. vulgare. Moreover, the presence of different oxylipins was relieved; these metabolites for the first time were identified in fennel. Most of the metabolites identified in F. vulgare possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and/or immunomodulatory properties. Considering that polyphenols are described to possess antioxidant activity, spectrophotometric tests were performed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of each part of the fennel.

Abstract
Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L) is an economically important crop, rich in nutrients, and is also conducive to solving ecological and environmental problems. Plants may acquire benefits from root-associated endophytic bacteria. However, the composition of the endophytic bacterial community associated with the roots of asparagus is poorly elucidated. In this study, the nine root samples of asparagus from three different varieties including Asparagus officinalis var. Grande (GLD), A. officinalis var. Jinglvlu3 (JL3) and A. officinalis var. Jingzilu2 (JZL) were investigated by high-throughput sequencing technology of the 16S rDNA V5-V7 hypervariable region of endophytic bacteria. A total of 16 phyla, 29 classes, 90 orders, 171 families, and 312 genera were identified. Endophytic bacteria diversity and bacteria structure was different among the three varieties and was influenced by rhizosphere soil properties and varieties. In the GLD variety, the main phyla were Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Firmicutes. The main phylum in JL3 and JZL varieties was Proteobacteria. The observations showed that GLD had the highest diversity of endophytes as indicated by the Shannon index (GLD > JZL > JL3). The order of the endophytes richness was GLD > JL3 > JZL. The PCA and PCoA analysis revealed the microbial communities were different between three different asparagus varieties, and the microbial composition of GLD and JZL was more similar. This report provides an important reference for the study of endophytic microorganisms of asparagus.
