Abstract
This study optimized the extraction of flavonoids from Fagonia cretica using deep eutectic solvents (DESs), focusing on key factors such as the type of DES used, molar ratio, water content, solid/liquid ratio, extraction temperature, and time. Among six DESs tested, the betaine-acetic acid combination exhibited the highest extraction efficiency, attributed to its low viscosity (4.98 mPa·s). Optimal extraction conditions were determined to be a 1:4 molar ratio of betaine to acetic acid, a 25% water content, a solid/liquid ratio of 1:60 g/mL, an extraction temperature of 50 °C, and an extraction time of 30 min. Under these conditions, the flavonoid yield was maximized while preserving bioactivity. Antioxidant assays revealed that flavonoids extracted with DESs exhibited superior scavenging activity against DPPH and hydroxyl radical compared to ethanol-extracted flavonoids, highlighting DESs' potential to enhance antioxidant properties. The recyclability of DESs was demonstrated using ultracapacitor porous activated carbon, achieving an 89.78% recovery efficiency. The reused DES maintained a high flavonoid extraction yield, retaining 92% efficiency after six cycles, emphasizing its sustainability and cost-effectiveness. This study establishes DES-based extraction as an environmentally friendly and efficient approach for isolating flavonoids with strong antioxidant properties, offering significant advantages in green chemistry and bioactive compound recovery.

Abstract
This study proposed ultrasound-assisted deep eutectic solvent (DES) for the extraction of capsaicinoids (CAP) from the placenta of lantern peppers. The DES of choline chloride-citric acid (ChCl-CA), with the highest CAP yield (8.25 mg/g) was screened. 1H nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the ChCl-CA formed hydrogen bonds through -COOH of CA and N+Cl- of ChCl. Furthermore, the CAP preferred the diffusion of ChCl during the extraction of CAP, which indicated that ChCl played a better solvent role in the DES via molecular dynamics. High-performance liquid chromatography results showed capsaicin (65.02 %) as the major compound in the extracts. Notably, DES-extracted CAP had excellent antioxidant activity and provided enhanced inhibition of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Thus, this study will provide a reference for the future use of DES in the extraction of other alkaloids, either in the laboratory or the industry.

Abstract
Innovative and eco-friendly methodologies for the determination of phenolic compounds, showing a paradigm shift in analytical chemistry toward sustainability. Phenolic compounds, valued for their diverse health benefits, have historically been analyzed using methods that often involve hazardous solvents and energy-intensive processes. This review focuses on green analytical chemistry principles, emphasizing sustainability, reduced environmental impact, and analytical efficiency. The use of DES, specifically Ch: Chl-based DES, emerges as a prominent green alternative for extracting phenolic compounds from various sources. The integration of UAE with DES enhances extraction efficiency, contributing to a more sustainable analytical approach. Furthermore, the review highlights the significance of DLLME and SPME in reducing solvent consumption and simplifying extraction procedures. These techniques exemplify the commitment to making phenolic compound analysis environmentally friendly. The incorporation of portable measurement tools, such as smartphones, into analytical methodologies is a notable aspect discussed in the review. Techniques like UA-DLLME leverage portable devices, making phenolic compound determination more accessible and versatile. Anticipating the future, the review foresees ongoing advancements in sustainable analytical approaches, driven by collaborative efforts across diverse disciplines. Novel solvents, extraction techniques, and portable measurement methods are expected to play pivotal roles in the continuous evolution of green analytical methodologies for the analysis of phenolic compounds. The review encapsulates a transformative journey toward environmentally responsible and efficient analytical practices, paving the way for further research and application in diverse analytical settings.

Abstract
The growing consumer demand for natural and eco-friendly food products motivates the development and evaluation of new and natural inputs for the food industry. So, this work explores the potential of grape pomace (GP) from winemaking, a food production residue, to obtain an anthocyanin-rich, ready-to-use extract with antioxidant activity that can confer improved color-rich gummy candies. The anthocyanins' chemical nature and the predictive COSMO-SAC model was considered for screening the best natural eutectic mixture for anthocyanin extraction. The eutectic mixtures composed of choline chloride as a hydrogen bond acceptor and acetic and citric acids as hydrogen bond donors were selected as solvents. The extraction was performed using a high-shear disperser (Ultra-Turrax®) at 45 °C and was stirred at 5000 rpm for 10 min. The extracts presented high total anthocyanin content (TAC), up to 60 µg equivalent of cyaniding-3-glucoside/g of dry GP, and high antioxidant activity as determined by DPPH and FRAP assays. The phenolic profile was also determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and the results corroborated with the antioxidant activity of the extracts. The results also demonstrate that eutectic mixtures enhance the extraction efficiency of anthocyanins and improve their stability, making them suitable for incorporation into functional food products such as gummies, acting as natural colorants.

Abstract
Deep Eutectic Solvents (DESs) emerge as innovative 21st-century solvents, supplanting traditional ones like ethanol and n-hexane. Renowned for their non-toxic, biodegradable, and water-miscible nature with reduced volatility, DESs are mostly synthesized through heating and stirring method. Physicochemical properties such as polarity, viscosity, density and surface tension of DESs influenced their application. This review paper gives the overview of application of eco-benign DESs in fruits, vegetables, cereals, pulses, spices, herbs, plantation crops, oil seed crops, medicinal and aromatic plants, seaweed, and milk for the extraction of bioactive compounds. Also, it gives insight of determination of pesticides, insecticides, hazardous and toxic compounds, removal of heavy metals, detection of illegal milk additive, purification of antibiotics and preparation of packaging film. Methodologies for separating bioactive compounds from DESs extracts are systematically examined. Further, safety regulations of DESs are briefly discussed and reviewed literature reveals prevalent utilization of DES-based bioactive compound rich extracts in cosmetics, indicating untapped potential of their application in the food industry.

Abstract
A green extraction method was developed using deep eutectic solvent extraction for the polysaccharide from Acanthopanax senticosus (A. senticosus). Among the eight types of DES prepared, the DES with a ratio of 1:4 L-malic acid to L-proline was found to be a suitable extraction solvent based on the extraction efficiency. The extraction parameters were optimized by Plackett-Burman and response surface methodology (RSM). The best extraction conditions were found for L-malic acid. Under the conditions of an L-malic acid/L-proline ratio of 1:4, ultrasonic power of 240 W, material-liquid ratio of 31.068 g/mL, water content of 32.364%, extraction time of 129.119 min, and extraction temperature of 60 °C, the extraction rate of A. senticosus polysaccharides was 35.452 ± 0.388 mg-g-1. This rate was higher than that of polysaccharides obtained by hot water extraction (13.652 ± 0.09 mg-g-1). The experimental results were best fitted by the quasi-secondary kinetic model when compared to two other kinetic models. Electron microscopic observations showed that DESs were more destructive to plant cells. The polysaccharide extracted from DESs had more monosaccharide components, a lower molecular weight, a higher antioxidant capacity, and superior anti-glycation activity compared to polysaccharides extracted from water (ASPS-PW). This study demonstrates the effectiveness of DESs in obtaining polysaccharides from A. senticosus.

Abstract
The sustainable extraction of natural compounds has recently attracted significant attention. The extraction of high-quality natural vanillin in active form is crucial for its efficient use in various industries, but conventional solvents are not suitable for this purpose. The flammability, volatility, and toxicity of organic solvents can harm extraction personnel, and their waste liquid can cause environmental pollution. Natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) are cost-effective, environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and non-toxic organic alternative to conventional solvents. In this study, 20 different NADES were tested for the sustainable extraction of natural vanillin. Among these, a DES system composed of choline chloride: 1,4-butanediol: lactic acid exhibited the highest extraction rate (15.9 mg/g). Employing response surface methodology (RSM), optimal extraction conditions were determined, yielding a vanillin content 18.5 mg/g with water content of 33.9%, extraction temperature of 64.6°C, extraction time of 32.3 min, and a solid-liquid ratio of 44.9 mg/mL. Subsequently, the optimized NADES system was then assessed for reusability in extracting vanillin from vanilla pods and kraft lignin over three cycles, retaining 43% of its extraction efficiency and demonstrating potential for waste reduction. Purification of vanillin was achieved through chromatography using a non-polar resin SP700, with ethanol as a desorption eluent and a feed solution pH of 4.0, resulting in the highest vanillin purity. HPLC and GC-MS analyses confirmed purity, while antioxidant activity assays (DPPH and ABTS) showcased significant antioxidant activity of the purified vanillin. Moreover, vanillin exhibited notable antimicrobial activity against a panel of food-borne bacteria. This study introduces an environmentally friendly approach to vanillin extraction highlights using NADES, emphasizing the potential for producing high-quality bioactive vanillin with reduced environmental impact. The applicability of NADES systems extends beyond vanillin, offering a versatile method for extracting diverse natural compounds.

Abstract
In this study, different Deep Eutectic Solvents based on choline chloride ([Ch]Cl) with carboxylic acids, sugars, and glycerol, were investigated as alternative solvents for the extraction of flavonoids from soybean and okara. Initially, the COSMO-SAC was investigated as a tool in solvent screening for the extraction of flavonoids. Experimental validation was performed using total flavonoid analysis with the solvents that showed greater interaction with the solutes. The extracts obtained from soybean and okara using the DES [Ch]Cl:acetic acid added with 30 % water showed the highest total flavonoid content, 1.05 mg eq. of catechin/g dry soybean and 0.94 mg eq. of catechin /g dry okara, respectively. For phenolic compound extraction, [Ch]Cl: acetic acid DES extracted approximately 1.16 mg GAE/g of soybean and 0.69 mg GAE/g of okara. For antioxidant activity, soybean and okara extracts obtained with [Ch]Cl: acetic acid showed FRAP results of 0.40 mg Trolox/mL of extract and 0.45 mg Trolox/mL of extract, respectively. In addition, the isoflavones daidzein, genistein, glycitein, daidzin, genistin, and glycitin were identified and quantified in the soybean and okara extracts obtained with DES [Ch]Cl: acetic acid with 30% water, totaling 1068.05 and 424.32 µg total isoflavones/g dry sample. Therefore, The COSMO-SAC model was a useful tool in solvent screening, saving time and costs. Also, DES can be an alternative solvent for extracting flavonoids to replace conventional organic solvents, respecting current environmental and human health concerns.

Abstract
Avocado peels are the main agro-industrial residue generated during the avocado processing, being a rich source of bioactive compounds like phenolic compounds. The growing demand for more sustainable processes requires the development of new and effective methods for extracting bioactive compounds from industrial waste. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are a new sustainable alternative to toxic organic solvents due to their non-toxicity and biocompatibility. In this study, five selected DESs were applied for the extraction of bioactive phenolic compounds from avocado peels. The extraction efficiency was evaluated by measuring the total phenolics and flavonoids content. The best extraction results were obtained with choline chloride-acetic acid and -lactic acid (92.03 ± 2.11 mg GAE/g DAP in TPC and 186.01 ± 3.27 mg RE/g DAP); however, all tested DESs show better extraction efficiency than ethanol. All the obtained NADES extracts have high antioxidant activity (FRAP: 72.5-121.1 mg TE/g; TAC: 90.0-126.1 mg AAE/g). The synthesized DESs and avocado peels DES extracts had activity against all tested bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus dysgalactiae, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas putida), and the extracts prepared with choline chloride-acetic acid and -lactic acid have the highest antibacterial activity against all microorganisms. These results, coupled with the non-toxic, biodegradable, low-cost, and environmentally friendly characteristics of DESs, provide strong evidence that DESs represent an effective alternative to organic solvents for the recovery of phenolic bioactive compounds from agro-industrial wastes.
