Abstract
Cellular senescence, a complex biological process resulting in permanent cell-cycle arrest, is central to aging and age-related diseases. A key concept in understanding cellular senescence is the Hayflick Limit, which refers to the limited capacity of normal human cells to divide, after which they become senescent. Senescent cells (SC) accumulate with age, releasing pro-inflammatory and tissue-remodeling factors collectively known as the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). The causes of senescence are multifaceted, including telomere attrition, oxidative stress, and genotoxic damage, and they extend to influences from microbial sources. Research increasingly emphasizes the role of the microbiome, especially gut microbiota (GM), in modulating host senescence processes. Beneficial microbial metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), support host health by maintaining antioxidant defenses and reducing inflammation, potentially mitigating senescence onset. Conversely, pathogenic bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Helicobacter pylori introduce factors that damage host DNA or increase ROS, accelerating senescence via pathways such as NF-κB and p53-p21. This review explores the impact of bacterial factors on cellular senescence, highlighting the role of specific bacterial toxins in promoting senescence. Additionally, it discusses how dysbiosis and the loss of beneficial microbial species further contribute to age-related cellular deterioration. Modulating the gut microbiome to delay cellular senescence opens a path toward targeted anti-aging strategies. This work underscores the need for deeper investigation into microbial influence on aging, supporting innovative interventions to manage and potentially reverse cellular senescence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Population aging has become a primary global public health issue, and the prevention of age-associated diseases and prolonging healthy life expectancies are of particular importance. Gut microbiota has emerged as a novel target in various host physiological disorders including aging. Comprehensive understanding on changes of gut microbiota during aging, in particular gut microbiota characteristics of centenarians, can provide us possibility to achieving healthy aging or intervene pathological aging through gut microbiota-directed strategies. AIM OF REVIEW This review aims to summarize the characteristics of the gut microbiota associated with aging, explore potential biomarkers of aging and address microbiota-associated mechanisms of host aging focusing on intestinal barrier and immune status. By summarizing the existing effective dietary strategies in aging interventions, the probability of developing a diet targeting the gut microbiota in future is provided. KEY SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS OF REVIEW This review is focused on three key notions: Firstly, gut microbiota has become a new target for regulating health status and lifespan, and its changes are closely related to age. Thus, we summarized aging-associated gut microbiota features at the levels of key genus/species and important metabolites through comparing the microbiota differences among centenarians, elderly people and younger people. Secondly, exploring microbiota biomarkers related to aging and discussing future possibility using dietary regime/components targeted to aging-related microbiota biomarkers promote human healthy lifespan. Thirdly, dietary intervention can effectively improve the imbalance of gut microbiota related to aging, such as probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics, but their effects vary among.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The gut microbiota is closely related to aging, but the genetic relationship between gut microbiota and aging has not been well investigated. The aim of the study was to explore the association of microbiota with epigenetic age acceleration (EAA) using the Mendelian randomization. METHOD The independent genetic instruments of gut microbiota were obtained from MiBioGen consortium and the Dutch Microbiome Project. EAA data were derived from genome-wide association study. To assess the causal relationship between gut microbiota and EAA, we applied four different methods of Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis: the inverse variance weighted method (IVW), the MR-Egger regression, the weighted median analysis (WMA), and the weighted mode. Furthermore, sensitivity analyses were conducted to evaluate heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy. RESULTS We identified potential causal associations between 12 bacterial taxa and EAA (PIVW and PWMA < 0.05). Among them, species Holdemania_unclassified (OR: 1.31, 95% CI: 1.13-1.52, P = 0.0004) retained a strong positive association with GrimAge acceleration. Family Acidaminococcaceae (OR: 0.64, 95% CI: 0.44-0.93, P = 0.019) and family Clostridiaceae1 (OR: 0.69, 95% CI: 0.49-0.97 P = 0.031) were negative association with GrimAge acceleration. Reverse MR analyses indicated that EAA was associated with 6 bacterial taxa in IVW and WMA. Among them, a strong inverse association was found between Phenoage acceleration and genus Turicibacter (OR: 0.928, 95%CI: 0.888-0.971, PIVW and PWMA < 0.001). CONCLUSION Our study implicates the potential causal effects of specific microbiota on EAA, potentially providing novel insights into the prevention aging through specific gut microbiota.

Abstract
There is a growing interest in studying the microbiota associated with aging by integrating multiple longevity researches while minimizing the influence of confounding factors. Here, we reprocessed metagenomic sequencing data from four different aging research studies and evaluated potential confounding factors in order to minimize the batch effect. Subsequently, we detected the diversity and abundance of the gut microbiome in three different age cohorts. Out of 1053 different bacteria species, only four showed substantial depletion across different age groups: Ligilactobacillus ruminis, Turicibacter sp. H121, Blautia massiliensis, and Anaerostipes hadrus. Archaea accumulated more in young individuals compared to elderly and centenarians. Candida albicans was more prevalent in centenarians, but Nakaseomyces glabratus (also known as Candida glabrata) was more common in elderly adults. Shuimuvirus IME207 showed a significant increase in centenarians compared to both control groups. In addition, we utilized a Fisher's exact test to investigate topological properties of differentially abundant microbiota in the co-occurrence network of each age group. Microbial signatures specific to different age stages were identified based on the condition: the reads showing differential abundance were higher compared to the other age groups. Lastly, we selected Methanosarcina sp. Kolksee for the Y group, Prevotella copri for the E group and Shuimuvirus IME207 for the C group as representatives of age-related characteristics to study how their interactions change during the aging process. Our results provide crucial insights into the gut microbiome's ecological dynamics in relation to the aging process.

Abstract
The gut microbiome plays a crucial role in host health throughout the lifespan by influencing brain function during aging. The microbial diversity of the human gut microbiome decreases during the aging process and, as a consequence, several mechanisms increase, such as oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammatory response, and microbial gut dysbiosis. Moreover, evidence indicates that aging and neurodegeneration are closely related; consequently, the gut microbiome may serve as a novel marker of lifespan in the elderly. In this narrative study, we investigated how the changes in the composition of the gut microbiome that occur in aging influence to various neuropathological disorders, such as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), dementia, Alzheimer's disease (AD), and Parkinson's disease (PD); and which are the possible mechanisms that govern the relationship between the gut microbiome and cognitive impairment. In addition, several studies suggest that the gut microbiome may be a potential novel target to improve hallmarks of brain aging and to promote healthy cognition; therefore, current and future therapeutic interventions have been also reviewed.

Abstract
The global prevalence of obesity currently exceeds 1 billion people and is accompanied by an increase in the aging population. Obesity and aging share many hallmarks and are leading risk factors for cardiometabolic disease and premature death. Current anti-obesity and pro-longevity pharmacotherapies are limited by side effects, warranting the development of novel therapies. The gut microbiota plays a major role in human health and disease, with a dysbiotic composition evident in obese and aged individuals. The bidirectional communication system between the gut and the central nervous system, known as the gut-brain axis, may link obesity to unhealthy aging. Modulating the gut with microbiome-targeted therapies, such as biotics, is a novel strategy to treat and/or manage obesity and promote longevity. Biotics represent material derived from living or once-living organisms, many of which have therapeutic effects. Pre-, pro-, syn- and post-biotics may beneficially modulate gut microbial composition and function to improve obesity and the aging process. However, the investigation of biotics as next-generation therapeutics has only just begun. Further research is needed to identify therapeutic biotics and understand their mechanisms of action. Investigating the function of the gut-brain axis in obesity and aging may lead to novel therapeutic strategies for obese, aged and comorbid (e.g., sarcopenic obese) patient populations. This review discusses the interrelationship between obesity and aging, with a particular emphasis on the gut microbiome, and presents biotics as novel therapeutic agents for obesity, aging and related disease states.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aging-related energy homeostasis significantly affects normal heart function and disease development. The relationship between the gut microbiota and host energy metabolism has been well established. However, the influence of an aged microbiota on energy metabolism in the heart remains unclear. OBJECTIVE The objective of this was to explore the effects of age-related microbiota composition on energy metabolism in the heart. METHODS In this study, we used the fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) method. The fecal microbiota from young (2-3 mo) and aged (18-22 mo) donor mice were transplanted into separate groups of young (2-3 mo) recipient mice. The analysis utilized whole 16S rRNA sequencing and plasma metabolomics to assess changes in the gut microbiota composition and metabolic potential. Energy changes were monitored by performing an oral glucose tolerance test, biochemical testing, body composition analysis, and metabolic cage measurements. Metabolic markers and markers of DNA damage were assessed in heart samples. RESULTS FMT of an aged microbiota changed the composition of the recipient's gut microbiota, leading to an elevated Firmicutes-to-Bacteroidetes ratio. It also affected overall energy metabolism, resulting in elevated plasma glucose concentrations, impaired glucose tolerance, and epididymal fat accumulation. Notably, FMT of an aged microbiota increased the heart weight and promoted cardiac hypertrophy. Furthermore, there were significant associations between heart weight and cardiac hypertrophy indicators, epididymal fat weight, and fasting glucose concentrations. Mechanistically, FMT of an aged microbiota modulated the glucose metabolic pathway and induced myocardial oxidative damage. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggested that an aged microbiota can modulate metabolism and induce cardiac injury. This highlights the possible role of the gut microbiota in age-related metabolic disorders and cardiac dysfunction.

Abstract
Recent observational studies revealed an association between gut microbiota and aging, but whether gut microbiota are causally associated with the aging process remains unknown. We used a two-sample Mendelian randomization approach to investigate the causal association between gut microbiota and biological age acceleration using the largest available gut microbiota GWAS summary data from the MiBioGen consortium and GWAS data on biological age acceleration. We further conducted sensitivity analysis using MR-PRESSO, MR-Egger regression, Cochran Q test, and reverse MR analysis. Streptococcus (IVW, β = 0.16, p = 0.0001) was causally associated with Bioage acceleration. Eubacterium (rectale group) (IVW, β = 0.20, p = 0.0190), Sellimonas (IVW, β = 0.06, p = 0.019), and Lachnospira (IVW, β = -0.18, p = 0.01) were suggestive of causal associations with Bioage acceleration, with the latter being protective. Actinomyces (IVW, β = 0.26, p = 0.0083), Butyricimonas (IVW, β = 0.21, p = 0.0184), and Lachnospiraceae (FCS020 group) (IVW, β = 0.24, p = 0.0194) were suggestive of causal associations with Phenoage acceleration. This Mendelian randomization study found that Streptococcus was causally associated with Bioage acceleration. Further randomized controlled trials are needed to investigate its role in the aging process.

Abstract
Gut microbiota of centenarians has garnered significant attention in recent years, with most studies concentrating on the analysis of microbial composition. However, there is still limited knowledge regarding the consistent signatures of specific species and their biological functions, as well as the potential causal relationship between gut microbiota and longevity. To address this, we performed the fecal metagenomic analysis of eight longevous populations at the species and functional level, and employed the Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to infer the causal associations between microbial taxa and longevity-related traits. We observed that several species including Eisenbergiella tayi, Methanobrevibacter smithii, Hungatella hathewayi, and Desulfovibrio fairfieldensis were consistently enriched in the gut microbiota of long-lived individuals compared to younger elderly and young adults across multiple cohorts. Analysis of microbial pathways and enzymes indicated that E. tayi plays a role in the protein N-glycosylation, while M. smithii is involved in the 3-dehydroquinate and chorismate biosynthesis. Furthermore, H. hathewayi makes a distinct contribution to the purine nucleobase degradation I pathway, potentially assisting the elderly in maintaining purine homeostasis. D. fairfieldensis contributes to the menaquinone (vitamin K2) biosynthesis, which may help prevent age-related diseases such as osteoporosis-induced fractures. According to MR results, Hungatella was significantly positively correlated with parental longevity, and Desulfovibrio also exhibited positive associations with lifespan and multiple traits related to parental longevity. Additionally, Alistipes and Akkermansia muciniphila were consistently enriched in the gut microbiota of the three largest cohorts of long-lived individuals, and MR analysis also suggests their potential causal relationships with longevity. Our findings reveal longevity-associated gut microbial signatures, which are informative for understanding the role of microbiota in regulating longevity and aging.

Abstract
Understanding the interrelationship between the gut microbiota and host physiology, although still in its relative infancy, has taken important steps forward over the past decade. In the context of brain disorders including those characterized by neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative changes there have been important advances. However, initially research involved correlational analyses, had limited translational scope, and lacked functional assessments. Thus, largescale longitudinal clinical investigations that assess causation and underlying mechanisms via in depth analysis methods are needed. In neurodegeneration research, strong causal evidence now links the gut microbiome to Alzheimer's (AD), and Parkinson's Disease (PD), as supported by human-to-animal transplantation studies. Longitudinal interventions are being conducted in AD, PD, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease, and multiple sclerosis. Neurodevelopmental research has also seen a boon in microbiome-related clinical research including in autism, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and schizophrenia, which is confirming prior animal model work regarding the key time-windows in the gut microbiome important for infant cognition. While recent research advances represent important progress, fundamental knowledge gaps and obstacles remain. Knowing how and why the gut microbiome changes at the extremes of life will develop our mechanistic understanding and help build the evidence base as we strive toward counteracting microbial missteps with precision therapeutic interventions.

Abstract
Red cabbage anthocyanins may provide health benefits that may be associated with antiaging. The protection of red cabbage anthocyanin-rich extract (ARE) and cyanidin-3-diglucoside-5-glucoside-rich extract (CY3D5G) against age-related cognitive dysfunction was investigated in normal aging mice (male C57BL/6J, 12 months old) administered orally for 12 weeks. Behavioral tests showed that ARE and CY3D5G significantly decreased cognitive impairment (p < 0.05) and had no effect on motor disorder. ARE and CY3D5G increased superoxide dismutase activity by 29.18 and 23.09% and decreased malondialdehyde by 15.74 and 10.05%, respectively, compared to the control. Histological staining showed that ARE and CY3D5G treatment reduced hippocampal neuronal damage and brain-derived neurotrophic factor degeneration. ARE and CY3D5G significantly reduced IL-1β and IL-6 levels in serum and brain (p < 0.05) by promoting the MAPK signaling pathway while enriching the abundance of butyrate-producing bacteria and altering the functional profile of the microbial community. In conclusion, ARE and CY3D5G may attenuate age-related cognitive dysfunction by reducing neuroinflammation and regulating the gut-brain axis.

Abstract
Quercetin is a flavonoid widely found in food and traditional herbs. In this study, we evaluated the anti-aging effects of quercetin on Simocephalus vetulus (S. vetulus) by assessing lifespan and growth parameters and analyzed the differentially expressed proteins and crucial pathways associated with quercetin activity using proteomics. The results demonstrated that, at a concentration of 1 mg/L, quercetin significantly prolonged the average and maximal lifespans of S. vetulus and increased the net reproduction rate slightly. The proteomics-based analysis revealed 156 differently expressed proteins, with 84 being significantly upregulated and 72 significantly downregulated. The protein functions were identified as being associated with glycometabolism, energy metabolism, and sphingolipid metabolism pathways, and the key enzyme activity and related gene expression, such that of AMPK, supported the importance of these pathways in the anti-aging activity of quercetin. In addition, quercetin was found to regulate the anti-aging-related proteins Lamin A and Klotho directly. Our results increased the understanding of quercetin's anti-aging effects.

Abstract
Centenarians are an excellent model to study the relationship between the gut microbiome and longevity. To characterize the gut microbiome signatures of aging, we conducted a cross-sectional investigation of 1,575 individuals (20-117 years) from Guangxi province of China, including 297 centenarians (n = 45 with longitudinal sampling). Compared to their old adult counterparts, centenarians displayed youth-associated features in the gut microbiome characterized by an over-representation of a Bacteroides-dominated enterotype, increase in species evenness, enrichment of potentially beneficial Bacteroidetes and depletion of potential pathobionts. Health status stratification in older individuals did not alter the directional trends for these signature comparisons but revealed more apparent associations in less healthy individuals. Importantly, longitudinal analysis of centenarians across a 1.5-year period indicated that the youth-associated gut microbial signatures were enhanced with regard to increased evenness, reduction in interindividual variation and stability of Bacteroides, and that centenarians with low microbial evenness were prone to large microbiome instability during aging. These results together highlight a youth-related aging pattern of the gut microbiome for long-lived individuals.

Abstract
The role of the gut microbiota in human health and disease has garnered heightened attention over the past decade. A thorough understanding of microbial variation over the life course and possible ways to influence and optimize the microbial pattern is essential to capitalize on the microbiota's potential to influence human health. Here, we review our current understanding of the concept of plasticity of the human gut microbiota throughout the life course. Characterization of the plasticity of the microbiota has emerged through recent research and suggests that the plasticity in the microbiota signature is largest at birth when the microbial colonization of the gut is initiated and mode of birth imprints its mark, then decreases postnatally continuously and becomes less malleable and largely stabilized with advancing age. This continuing loss of plasticity has important implication for the impact of the exposome on the microbiota and health throughout the life course and the identification of susceptible 'windows of opportunity' and methods for interventions.

Abstract
Human body is colonized by a florid microbial community of bacteria, archaea, fungi, protists, helminths, and viruses, known as microbiota, which co-evolves with the host and influences its health through all stages of its life. It is well known that oral microorganisms form highly structurally and functionally organized multi-species biofilms and establish a network of complex mutual inter-species interactions having a primary function in synergy, signaling, or antagonism. This ecological model allows the microorganisms to increase their resistance to antimicrobial agents and settle a balanced microbes-host symbiotic relationship that ensures oral and global health status in humans. The host-associated microbiome is an important factor in human health and disease. Therefore, to develop novel diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive strategies, microbiome's functions and the reciprocal interactions every microbiome entertains with other microbial communities in the human body are being investigated. This review provides an analysis of the literature about the close connection between the two largest microbial communities in humans: the oral and the gut microbiomes. Furthermore, it focuses on how the alteration of their microbial and functional characteristics can lead to and reciprocally influence the onset of both oral and intestinal microbiome-associated illness, along with the potential role of probiotics in ameliorating inflammation and microbial dysbiosis.

Abstract
The risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is associated with unusual changes in the human gut microbiota, most commonly coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, hypertension, and heart failure. Immune mechanisms maintain a dynamic balance between the gut microbiota and the host immune system. When one side changes and the balance is disrupted, different degrees of damage are inflicted on the host and a diseased state gradually develops over time. This review summarizes the immune mechanism of the gut microbiota and its metabolites in the occurrence of common CVDs, discusses the relationship between gut-heart axis dysfunction and the progression of CVD, and lists the currently effective methods of regulating the gut microbiota for the treatment of CVDs.

Abstract
The trend toward herbal medicine as an alternative treatment for disease medication is increasing worldwide. However, insufficient pharmacologic information is available about the orally taken medicines. Not only herbal medicine, but also Western drugs, when passing through the gastrointestinal tract, interact with trillions of microbes (known as the gut microbiome [GM]) and their enzymes. Gut microbiome enzymes induce massive structural and functional changes to the herbal products and impact the bioavailability and efficacy of the herbal therapeutics. Therefore, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) researchers extend the horizon of TCM research to the GM to better understand TCM pharmacology and enhance its efficacy and bioavailability. The study investigating the interaction between herbal medicine and gut microbes utilizes the holistic approach, making landmark achievements in the field of disease prognosis and treatment. The effectiveness of TCM is a multipathway modulation, and so is the GM. This review provides an insight into the understanding of a holistic view of TCM and GM interaction. Furthermore, this review briefly describes the mechanism of how the TCM-GM interaction deals with various illnesses.

Abstract
The gut microbiome is a contributory factor in ageing-related health loss and in several non-communicable diseases in all age groups. Some age-linked and disease-linked compositional and functional changes overlap, while others are distinct. In this Review, we explore targeted studies of the gut microbiome of older individuals and general cohort studies across geographically distinct populations. We also address the promise of the targeted restoration of microorganisms associated with healthier ageing.

Abstract
Individuals with naturally long-life spans have been extensively studied to gain a greater understanding of what factors contribute to their overall health and ability to delay or avoid certain diseases. Our previous work showed that gut microbiota can be a new avenue in healthy aging studies. In the present study, a total of 86 Chinese individuals were assigned into three groups: the long-living group (90 + years old; n = 28), the elderly group (65–75 years old; n = 31), and the young group (24–48 years old; n = 27). These groups were used to explore the composition and functional genes in the microbiota community by using the metagenomic sequencing method. We found that long-living individuals maintained high diversity in gene composition and functional profiles. Furthermore, their microbiota displays less inter-individual variation than that of elderly adults. In the taxonomic composition, it was shown that long-living people contained more short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing bacteria and a decrease in certain pathogenic bacteria. Functional analysis also showed that the long-living people were enriched in metabolism metabolites methanol, trimethylamine (TMA), and CO2 to methane, and lysine biosynthesis, but the genes related to riboflavin (vitamin B2) metabolism and tryptophan biosynthesis were significantly reduced in long-living individuals. Further, we found that long-living people with enriched SCFA- and lactic-producing bacteria and related genes, highly centered on producing key lactic acid genes (ldhA) and the genes of lysine that are metabolized to the butyrate pathway. In addition, we compared the gut microbiota signatures of longevity in different regions and found that the composition of the gut microbiota of the long-lived Chinese and Italian people was quite different, but both groups were enriched in genes related to methane production and glucose metabolism. In terms of SCFA metabolism, the Chinese long-living people were enriched with bacteria and genes related to butyric acid production, while the Italian long-living people were enriched with more acetic acid-related genes. These findings suggest that the gut microbiota of Chinese long-living individuals include more SCFA-producing bacteria and genes, metabolizes methanol, TMA, and CO2, and contains fewer pathogenic bacteria, thereby potentially contributing to the healthy aging of humans.

Abstract
Mounting evidence indicates that the gut microbiota is linked to several physiological processes and disease development in mammals; however, the underlying mechanisms remained unexplored mostly due to the complexity of the mammalian gut microbiome. The fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, is a valuable animal model for studying host-gut microbiota interactions in translational aspects. The availability of powerful genetic tools and resources in Drosophila allowed the scientists to unravel the mechanisms by which the gut microbes affect fitness, health, and behavior of their hosts. Drosophila models have been extensively used not only to study animal behaviors (i.e., courtship, aggression, sleep, and learning & memory), but also some human related neurodegenerative diseases (i.e., Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease) in the past. This review comprehensively summarizes the current understanding of the gut microbiota of Drosophila and its impact on fly behavior, physiology, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract
Most COVID-19 cases are mild or asymptomatic and recover well, suggesting that effective immune responses ensue, which successfully eliminate SARS-CoV-2 viruses. However, a small proportion of patients develop severe COVID-19 with pathological immune responses. This indicates that a strong immune system balanced with anti-inflammatory mechanisms is critical for the recovery from SARS-CoV-2 infections. Many vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 have now been developed for eliciting effective immune responses to protect from SARS-CoV-2 infections or reduce the severity of the disease if infected. Although uncommon, serious morbidity and mortality have resulted from both COVID-19 vaccine adverse reactions and lack of efficacy, and further improvement of efficacy and prevention of adverse effects are urgently warranted. Many factors could affect efficacy of these vaccines to achieve optimal immune responses. Dysregulation of the gut microbiota (gut dysbiosis) could be an important risk factor as the gut microbiota is associated with the development and maintenance of an effective immune system response. In this narrative review, we discuss the immune responses to SARS-CoV-2, how COVID-19 vaccines elicit protective immune responses, gut dysbiosis involvement in inefficacy and adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccines and the modulation of the gut microbiota by functional foods to improve COVID-19 vaccine immunisations.

Abstract
Aging is characterized by a time dependent impairment of physiological function and increased susceptibility to death. It is the major risk factor for neurodegeneration. Neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are the main causes of dementia in the old population. Gut microbiota is a community of microorganisms colonized in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The alteration of gut microbiota has been proved to be associated with aging and aging related neurodegeneration. Drosophila is a powerful tool to study microbiota-mediated physiological and pathological functions. Here, we summarize the recent advances using Drosophila as model organisms to clarify the molecular mechanisms and develop a therapeutic method targeting microbiota in aging and aging-related neurodegenerative disorders.
