Abstract
One hexa- and two octanuclear Cu(II) complexes were synthesised from different metal salts and a very large (8 + 8) tetraeicosaaza macrocycle. These nitrate, chloride and sulphate coordination compounds were characterised by taking elemental analysis, spectroscopy, crystallography and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Their crystal structures revealed different interesting coordination modes of Cu(II) cations and nuclearity in these centrosymmetric complexes. For the sulphate complex two different, homo- vs. heterochiral, arrangements of the same macrocycle L3 around the same Cu(II) cations take place.

Abstract
In an effort to prepare small molecule mimics of the active site of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase (LPMO), three monoanionic tridentate N donor ligands comprising a central deprotonated amide group flanked by two neutral donors were prepared, and their coordination chemistry with Cu(I) and Cu(II) was evaluated. With Cu(I), a dimer formed, which was characterized by X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. A variety of mononuclear and dinuclear Cu(II) species with a range of auxiliary ligands (MeCN, Cl-, OH-, OAc-, OBz-, CO3 2-) were prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction and various spectroscopies (UV-vis, EPR). The complexes exhibit structural similarities to the LPMO active site.

Abstract
Four hexanuclear chloride and sulphate Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes 1, 2, 4 and 5 and one tetranuclear nitrate Cu(II) complex 3 have been synthesised from appropriate metal salts and 6 + 6 octadecaaza macrocyclic ligands. All obtained coordination compounds have been characterised by elemental analysis, spectroscopic methods (ESI MS, NMR and EPR), magnetic susceptibility measurements and X-ray crystallography. Their X-ray crystal structures reveal different coordination modes of metal cations involved in the obtained centro-symmetrical coordination compounds. The conformational folding of the macrocyclic ligand adopted in the respective complexes depends on the number of metal cations bound within the macrocycle but not on their type. The cavities of these multinuclear complexes might be occupied by solvent molecules and counter anions bound by hydrogen bonds or might be empty in the case where the macrocyclic ring of the ligand is squeezed in the middle. All obtained Ni(II) and Cu(II) coordination compounds are paramagnetic. This has been proved by their 1H NMR and EPR spectra and magnetic measurements. Direct current (DC) variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements on the polycrystalline samples of 1-5 were carried out in the temperature range of 1.8-300 K. The magnetic behaviour of 1 and 2 is dominated by the magnetic anisotropy of the nickel(II) ion masking the magnetic interactions between magnetic centres. The magnetic data of 3-5 reveal small antiferromagnetic interactions within the Cu4 and Cu6 units. EPR experiments for 3-5 show, at 9.6 and 34 GHz frequencies, that the predominant contribution to the orbitals occupied by the unpaired electrons in the ground state originates from dx2-y2.

Abstract
Dicopper(II) and dizinc(II) complexes [Cu2((MeOOC)L(COO))(CH3COO)2] (1) and [Zn2((MeOOC)L(COO))(CH3COO)2] (2) were synthesized by reaction of Cu(CH3COO)2·H2O and Zn(CH3COO)2·2H2O with a new nonsymmetric dinucleating ligand (EtOOC)HL(COOEt) prepared by condensation of 6-hydrazinyl-11H-indolo[3,2-c]quinoline with diethyl-2,2'-((3-formyl-2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzyl)azanediyl)diacetate. The design and synthesis of this elaborate ligand was performed with the aim of increasing the aqueous solubility of indolo[3,2-c]quinolines, known as biologically active compounds, and investigating the antiproliferative activity in human cancer cell lines and the cellular distribution by exploring the intrinsic fluorescence of the indoloquinoline scaffold. The compounds have been comprehensively characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic methods (IR, UV-vis, (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy), ESI mass spectrometry, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and UV-vis complex formation studies (for 1) as well as by X-ray crystallography (1 and 2). The antiproliferative activity of (EtOOC)HL(COOEt), 1, and 2 was determined by the MTT assay in three human cancer cell lines, namely, A549 (nonsmall cell lung carcinoma), CH1 (ovarian carcinoma), and SW480 (colon adenocarcinoma), yielding IC50 values in the micromolar concentration range and showing dependence on the cell line. The effect of metal coordination on cytotoxicity of (EtOOC)HL(COOEt) is also discussed. The subcellular distribution of (EtOOC)HL(COOEt) and 2 was investigated by fluorescence microscopy, revealing similar localization for both compounds in cytoplasmic structures.

Abstract
In the present work we present a comprehensive study of the magneto-structural correlations of a series of ferromagnetic triply heterobridged Cu(II) dinuclear compounds containing [Cu(2)(mu-O(2)CR)(mu-OH)(mu-X)(L)(2)](2+) ions (where X = OH(2), Cl(-), OMe(-) and L = bpy, phen, dpyam) which have the particularity of being all ferromagnetic. The present theoretical study, based on hybrid density functional theory (DFT) calculations, leads to strong conclusions about the role of the pentacoordination geometry of the Cu(II) ions (square base pyramidal (SP) or trigonal bipyramidal (TBP) coordination) and the nature of the third bridging ligand in determining the final value of the magnetic coupling constants in this series of compounds. These investigations point toward the existence of a maximum value for the ferromagnetic interaction and may offer some useful information to synthetic chemists aiming at obtaining new compounds with enhanced ferromagnetism.

Abstract
The structure of the title compound, (C(10)H(10)N(3))(2)[ZnCl(4)], is composed of C(10)H(9)N(3)H(+) (DPAH(+)) cations and [ZnCl(4)](2-) anions. The two pyridyl rings of DPAH(+) are approximately coplanar, with a dihedral angle of 7.2 (2)° between their corresponding least-squares planes. The proton is disordered in a one-to-one ratio over the two chemically equivalent pyridyl N atoms. An intra-molecular hydrogen bond is formed between the pyridinium H atom and the pyridyl N atom of the other pyridyl ring. The Zn atom lies on a twofold rotation axis. There are also some weak N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. These inter-actions lead to the formation of an alternating zigzag chain in the solid state. The results clearly show that reducing agents normally used in hydro-thermal syntheses, such as metallic zinc employed here, are also active in terms of coordination chemistry.

Abstract
Reactions of CuX2.nH2O with the biscarboxylate ligand XDK (H2XDK = m-xylenediamine bis(Kemp's triacid imide)) in the presence of N-donor auxiliary ligands yielded a series of dicopper(II) complexes, [Cu2(mu-OH)(XDK)(L)2]X (L = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (tetmen), X = NO3 (1a), Cl (1b); L = N,N,N'-trimethylethylenediamine (tmen), X = NO3 (2a), Cl (2b); L =2,2'-bipyridine (bpy), X = NO3 (3); L = 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), X = NO3 (4); L = 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (Me2bpy), X = NO3 (5); L = 4-methyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Mephen), X = NO3 (6)). Complexes 1-6 were characterized by X-ray crystallography (Cu...Cu = 3.1624(6)-3.2910(4) A), and the electrochemical and magnetic properties were also examined. Complexes 3 and 4 readily reacted with diphenyl phosphoric acid (HDPP) or bis(4-nitrophenyl) phosphoric acid (HBNPP) to give [Cu2(mu-phosphate)(XDK)(L)2]NO3 (L = bpy, phosphate = DPP (11); L = phen, phosphate = DPP (12), BNPP (13)), where the phsophate diester bridges the two copper ions in a mu-1,3-O,O' bidentate fashion (Cu...Cu = 4.268(3)-4.315(1) A). Complexes 4 and 6 with phen and Mephen have proven to be good precursors to accommodate a series of sugar monophosphate esters (Sugar-P) onto the biscarboxylate-bridged dicopper centers, yielding [Cu2(mu-Sugar-P)(XDK)(L)2] (Sugar-P = alpha-D-Glc-1-P (23a and b), D-Glc-6-P (24a and b), D-Man-6-P (25a), D-Fru-6-P (26a and b); L = phen (a), Mephen (b)) and [Cu2(mu-Gly-n-P)(XDK)(Mephen)2] (Gly-n-P = glycerol n-phosphate; n = 2 (21), 3 (22)), where Glc, Man, and Fru are glucose, mannose, and fructose, respectively. The structure of [Cu2(mu-MNPP)(XDK)(phen)2(CH3OH)] (20) was characterized as a reference compound (H2MNPP = 4-nitrophenyl phosphoric acid). Complexes 4 and 6 also reacted with d-fructose 1,6-bisphosphate (D-Fru-1,6-P2) to afford the tetranuclear copper(II) complexes formulated as [Cu4(mu-D-Fru-1,6-P2)(XDK)2(L)4] (L = phen (27a), Mephen (27b)). The detailed structure of 27a was determined by X-ray crystallography to involve two different tetranuclear complexes with alpha- and beta-anomers of D-Fru-1,6-P2, [Cu4(mu-alpha-D-Fru-1,6-P2)(XDK)2(phen)4] and [Cu4(mu-beta-D-Fru-1,6-P2)(XDK)2(phen)4], in which the D-Fru-1,6-P2 tetravalent anion bridges the two [Cu2(XDK)(phen)2]2+ units through the C1 and C6 phosphate groups in a mu-1,3-O,O' bidentate fashion (Cu...Cu = 4.042(2)-4.100(2) A). Notably, the structure with alpha-D-Fru-1,6-P2 demonstrated the presence of a strong hydrogen bond between the C2 hydroxyl group and the C1 phosphate oxygen atom, which may support the previously proposed catalytic mechanism in the active site of fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase.
