Abstract
The first palladium organometallic compounds bearing N-trifluoromethyl N-heterocyclic carbenes have been synthesized. These η3 -allyl complexes are potent antiproliferative agents against different cancer lines (for the most part, IC50 values fall in the range 0.02-0.5 μm). By choosing 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) as co-ligand, we can improve the selectivity toward tumor cells, whereas the introduction of 2-methyl substituents generally reduces the antitumor activity slightly. A series of biochemical assays, aimed at defining the cellular targets of these palladium complexes, has shown that mitochondria are damaged before DNA, thus revealing a behavior substantially different from that of cisplatin and its derivatives. We assume that the specific mechanism of action of these organometallic compounds involves nucleophilic attack on the η3 -allyl fragment. The effectiveness of a representative complex, 4 c, was verified on ovarian cancer tumoroids derived from patients. The results are promising: unlike carboplatin, our compound turned out to be very active and showed a low toxicity toward normal liver organoids.

Abstract
A series of new palladium allyl complexes bearing purine-based carbenes derived from caffeine, theophylline and theobromine have been prepared and characterized by NMR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis and in two cases by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The cytotoxic and proapoptotic activities of compounds have been determined in vitro on human ovarian cancer A2780 and SKOV-3 cell lines. These experiments have shown that the palladium-allyl fragment induces a general cytotoxicity, but the choice of the supporting ligands is of paramount importance for achieving the best results. In particular complexes 4c, 4d and 5d exhibit a higher antiproliferative effect (IC50: 0.09, 0.81 and 0.85 μM respectively) than cisplatin (IC50: 1.5 μM) on A2780 cells, and 4d (IC50: 1.7 μM vs. 5.94 μM) on SKOV-3 cell line. Moreover in many cases it has been proved that the cytotoxicity of our complexes is associated with the induction of apoptosis.

Abstract
Cycloplatinated complexes based on 2-(4-substituted)benzothiazole ligands of type [Pt(R-PBT-κC,N)Cl(L)] (PBT=2-phenylbenzothiazole; R=Br (1), Me2 N (2); L=dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO; a), 1,3,5- triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA; b), triphenylphosphine 3,3',3''-trisulfonate (TPPTS; c)) and [Pt(Br-PBT-κC)Cl(PTA)2 ] (3) are presented. On the basis of the photophysical data and time-dependent (TD)-DFT calculations (1 a and 2 a), the low-lying transitions (absorption and emission) were associated with ligand-center (LC) charge transfer, with minor metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT), and intraligand charge transfer (ILCT) [Me2 N-PBT→PBT] excited states, respectively. Simultaneous fluorescence/phosphorescence bands were found in fluid solutions (and also in the solid state for 2 a), which become dominated by triplet emission bands in rigid media at 77 K. The effect of the concentration on emissive behavior of 2 a, b indicated the occurrence of aggregation-induced luminescence properties related to the occurrence of metal-metal and π⋅⋅⋅π interactions, which are more enhanced in 2 a because of the less bulky DMSO ligand. The behavior of 2 a toward para-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA) in aerated acetonitrile and to hydrogen chloride gas in the solid state has been evaluated, thus showing a clear reversible change between the 1 ILCT and 3 LC/3 MLCT states due to protonation of the NMe2 group (theoretical calculations on 2 a-H+ ). Solid 2 a undergoes a surprising oxidation of the PtII center to PtIV with concomitant deoxygenation of DMSO, under prolonged reaction with hydrogen chloride gas to afford the PtIV /dimethyl sulfide complex (mer-[Pt(Me2 N-PBT-κC,N)Cl3 (SMe2 )]; mer-4), which evolves in solution to fac-4, as confirmed by X-ray studies. Cytotoxic activity studies on A549 and HeLa cell lines indicated cytotoxic activity of 1 b and 2 a, b. In addition, fluorescent cell microscopy revealed cytoplasmic staining, more visible in perinuclear areas. Inhibition of tubulin polymerization by 1 b in both cells is presented as a preliminary mechanism of its cytotoxic action.

Abstract
AbstractThis review summarized and analyzed the structural parameters of 174 monomeric organoplatinum complexes with an inner coordination sphere of trans-PtP2C2. These complexes crystallized in four crystal systems: hexagonal (x2), orthorhombic (x13), triclinic (x76), and monoclinic (x84). These complexes, on the basis of the coordination mode of the respective donor ligands, can be divided into the seven sub-groups: Pt(PL)2(CL)2, Pt(PL)2(η2-C2L), Pt(η2-P2L)(CL)2, Pt(PL)(η2-P,CL)(CL), Pt(η2-P,CL)2, Pt(η3-P,C,PL)(CL), and Pt(η3-C,P,CL)(PL). The chelating ligands create 4-, 5-, 6-, 16-, 17-, 18-, and 19-membered rings. The total mean values of Pt-L bond distances are 2.055 Å (C) and 2.300 Å (P). There are examples that exist in two isomeric forms and are examples of distortion isomerism. The structural parameters of trans-PtP2C2 are discussed with those of cis-PtP2C2 derivatives.

Abstract
A series of cationic rhodium(I) and iridium(I) complexes of the type [M(L[symbol: see text]L)(C2)]BAr(F)24 (where M = Rh or Ir, L[symbol: see text]L = bis(pyrazol-1-yl)methane (bpm), bis(N-methylimidazol-2-yl)methane (bim) or 1-(2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl)-3,5-diphenylpyrazole (Ph2PyP), C2 = 1,5-cyclooctadiene (COD) or (CO)2 and BAr(F)24 = tetrakis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate) were synthesised in good yields. The solid-state structure of a number of complexes, including [Ir(Ph2PyP)(COD)]BAr(F)24, [Ir(bpm)(COD)]BAr(F)24 and [Ir(bim)(COD)]BAr(F)24 was determined using X-ray crystallography. The efficiency of the complexes as catalysts for the intramolecular hydroamination of 4-phenyl-3-butyn-1-amine, 4-pentyn-1-amine and 2-(2-phenylethynyl)aniline was established. The incorporation of the BAr(F)24- counter-ion in the Rh(I) and Ir(I) complexes was found to significantly improve the catalytic activity of the complexes, compared to the analogous Rh(I) and Ir(I) complexes containing BPh4- as the counter-ion. Excellent conversions were achieved for the cyclisation of 2-(2-phenylethynyl)aniline to 2-phenylindole using [Rh(bpm)(CO)2]BAr(F)24 as a catalyst. The use of a microwave reactor for enhancing the catalysed reactions was also investigated.

Abstract
The water-soluble four- and five-coordinate diazido-platinum(II) complexes cis-[Pt(N3)2(PTA)2] (1) (PTA = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane), cis-[Pt(N3)2(Me-PTA)2]I2 (2) (Me-PTA = N-methyl-1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane cation) and [Pt(N3)2(PTA)3] (3) were obtained by reactions of cis-[Pt(N3)2(PPh3)2] with PTA or [Me-PTA]I in dichloromethane. [2 + 3] cycloadditions of with organonitriles NCR gave the bis(tetrazolato) complexes trans-[Pt(N4CR)2(PTA)2] (R = Ph (4), 4-ClC6H4 (5) or 3-NC5H4 (6)), the reactions being greatly accelerated by microwave irradiation. 5-R-1H-Tetrazoles N4CR (R = Ph, 4-ClC6H4 and 3-NC5H4) were easily liberated from the tetrazolato complexes and isolated in high yields, in a single-pot process, upon reaction with aqueous diluted HCl, with concomitant formation of the water soluble cis-[Pt(Cl)2(PTA-H)2] complex 7. Alternatively, in a less convenient method, the tetrazoles could be liberated on reaction of 4-6 with propionitrile which also leads to the dicyano trans-[Pt(CN)2(PTA)2] complex 8. The compounds were characterized by IR, 1H, 13C and 31P[1H] NMR spectroscopies, FAB+-MS or ESI-MS, elemental analyses and (for and 4) also by X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
A series of "constrained geometry" organoactinide complexes, (CGC)An(NMe)2 (CGC = Me2Si(eta5-Me4C5)(tBuN); An = Th, 1; U, 2), has been prepared via efficient in situ, two-step protodeamination routes in good yields and high purity. Both 1 and 2 are quantitatively converted to the neutrally charged, solvent-free dichlorides (1-Cl2, 2-Cl2) and slightly more soluble diiodides (1-I2, 2-I2) with excess Me3Si-X (X = Cl, I) in non-coordinating solvents. The new complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and (for 1 and 2) single-crystal X-ray diffraction, revealing substantially increased metal coordinative unsaturation vs the corresponding Me2SiCp' '2AnR2 (Cp' ' = eta5-Me4C5; An = Th, R = CH2(SiMe3), 3; An = U, R = CH2Ph, 4) and Cp'2AnR2 (Cp' = eta5-Me5C5 ; An = Th, R = CH2(SiMe3), 5; An = U, R = CH2(SiMe3), 6) complexes. Complexes 1-6 exhibit broad applicability for the intramolecular hydroamination of diverse C-C unsaturations, including terminal and internal aminoalkenes (primary and secondary amines), aminoalkynes (primary and secondary amines), aminoallenes, and aminodienes. Large turnover frequencies (Nt up to 3000 h-1) and high regioselectivities (>/=95%) are observed throughout, along with moderate to high diastereoselectivities (up to 90% trans ring closures). With several noteworthy exceptions, reactivity trends track relative 5f ionic radii and ancillary ligand coordinative unsaturation. Reactivity patterns and activation parameters are consistent with a reaction pathway proceeding via turnover-limiting C=C/CC insertion into the An-N sigma-bond.

Lithiation of PTA, with n-butyllithium, resulted in deprotonation of an alpha-phosphorus methylene and the formation of 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane-6-yllithium (PTA-Li). The chiral chelating phosphine 6-(diphenylphosphino)-1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA-PPh2) was synthesized, in racemic form, by the reaction of PTA-Li with ClPPh2. PTA-PPh2 has been fully characterized in solution by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry and in the solid state by X-ray crystallography. The 31P NMR spectrum contains a pair of doublets at -19.8 and -100.1 ppm (d, (2)J(PP) = 65 Hz). Unlike PTA, the new bidentate phosphine, PTA-PPh2, is insoluble in aqueous solutions. Two group 6 metal carbonyl complexes, [M(CO)4(PTA-PPh2)] (M = W and Mo), were synthesized by the addition of PTA-PPh2 to cis-[M(CO)4(pip)2] and characterized by NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. Also reported are the solid-state structures of cis-[W(CO)4PTA2], cis-[W(CO)4(PTA)(PPh3)], and [W(CO)4DPPM] (DPPM = diphenylphosphinomethane). PTA-PPh2 appears to be sterically similar to and slightly more electron-donating than DPPM.
