Case report: Tumor collision in the colon, adenocarcinoma – lymphoma

Concurrent occurrence of adenocarcinoma and urothelial carcinoma of the prostate: Coexistence mechanisms from multiple perspectives

This article discusses the coexistence of prostate adenocarcinoma and prostate urothelial carcinoma. Combining existing literature and research results, the potential mechanisms of the co-occurrence of these two cancers are explored, including the role of androgen receptor, gene mutations, and their complex interactions in cell signaling pathways, etc. Also, the hypothesis of prostate cancer transformation into urothelial carcinoma is explained from some perspectives, including tumor multipotent stem cell differentiation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, mesenchymal-epithelial transition, and other mechanisms. Ultimately, the goal is to provide more accurate diagnoses and more personalized treatments in clinical practice, as well as to lay the foundation for improving patient prognoses in the future.

A case report: Diagnosis of early stage ascending colon adenocarcinoma due to concomitant lymphoma presented by ileocaecal intussusception and literature review

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE

This case report describes a rare occurrence of ileocecal malignant lymphoma combined with adenocarcinoma, due to the low incidence rate of colonic malignant lymphoma.

CASE PRESENTATION

A 73-year-old female patient presented with abdominal pain and was diagnosed with "acute intussusception with intestinal obstruction" in the emergency department of our hospital. Due to the occurrence of intestinal obstruction the operation was performed, and postoperative pathology revealed a combination of ileocecal DLBCL and ascending colon adenocarcinoma at stage pT1N0M0. One month after the surgery, the patient received an R-CHOP chemotherapy regimen targeting the lymphoma from the hematology department of a local hospital. Upon reexamination after eight cycles of therapy, lymph nodes had enlarged and caused esophageal compression. Unfortunately, the patient contracted COVID-19 and was too weak to undergo any further targeted therapy treatment, and eventually passed away 17 months after the surgery.

CLINICAL DISCUSSION

Synchronous cancers of the colon with malignant lymphoma and adenocarcinoma are rare but still exist. Emphasizing the importance of accurate diagnosis, this report aims to provide clinicians with a broad differential diagnosis, especially in cases where preoperative examination options are limited.

CONCLUSION

An accurate and comprehensive treatment plan should be tailored to the specific situations of different malignant tumors to improve the survival prognosis of patients.

Hepatocellular carcinoma‑cavernous hemangioma collision tumor: A case report

Collision tumors consisting of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cavernous hemangioma (CH) are rare and the clinicopathological characteristics or cause of the tumors remain unclear. The present study reports the case of a 71-year-old male patient who was admitted to Sunshine Union Hospital (Weifang, China) due to a liver mass found during a routine physical examination. computed tomography scans showed a main lesion of ~4.0×4.2×3.5 cm in segment IV of the patient's liver and a nodule of ~2.4×2.2×1.3 cm in the lower-left part of the lesion, which was clearly demarcated from the main lesion. The capsule of the lesion was found to be intact during the operation performed to remove the tumor. The final patient diagnosis was of a HCC-CH collision tumor based on pathology. The patient underwent follow-up for 6 months after surgery and no recurrence was observed.

Collision tumor of primary malignant lymphoma and adenocarcinoma in the colon diagnosed by molecular pathology: A case report and literature review

BACKGROUND

Collision tumors of primary malignant lymphoma and adenocarcinoma in the colon are rare. Primary diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL)-adenocarcinoma collision tumors are especially rare.

CASE SUMMARY

A 74-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain of 1 mo duration. Biopsy under colonoscopy revealed adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon. Subsequently, the patient underwent laparoscopic radical resection of right colon cancer with lymph node dissection. A collision tumor was found incidentally through postoperative pathological sampling. Genetic analysis showed a collision tumor of DLBCL with germinal center B-cell subtype and TP53 mutation, and adenocarcinoma arising in a tubulovillous adenoma in the colon, with BRAF mutation and mutL homolog 1 promoter methylation. The patient died 3 mo after surgery. To our knowledge, this is the 23rd reported case of collision tumor of colorectal adenocarcinoma and lymphoma. The mean age of the 23 patients was 73 years. The most common site was the cecum. There were 15 cases with follow-up data including 11 living and four dead with a 3-year overall survival rate of 71.5%.

CONCLUSION

Based on pathological and genetic analysis, surgery combined with chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy may have good therapeutic effects for collision tumor.
