Study on lean production management of new energy vehicle body painting based on the dual perspectives of digital transformation and VSM

The automobile body painting production system exists in the backward management concept of focusing on production and ignoring environmental protection, focusing on traditional technology and unwilling to innovate, etc., high production cost and environmental protection standards, which have had a negative impact on the industry's long-term growth. Based on the value stream mapping (VSM) analysis technology, the current situation of the value stream of the body spraying process of TJ Automobile Manufacturing Company is analyzed, the problem of waste in the production process of automobile body painting system affected by Eliminate Combine Rearrange Simplify (ECRS)a four-step problem-solving technique was studied and analyzed, a new method for the application of value stream graph analysis technology in the digital transformation environment is proposed, and a suitable production improvement scheme for the body painting system is formulated by using the new method, which increases the value-added operation time of the painting production process by 9.5% and reduces the non-value-added operation time by 12.5%. The number of operators was reduced by 18.8%, the value-added ratio was increased accordingly, the scrap rate was reduced by 8%, and the exhaust gas purification rate was increased by 66%, which brought good economic and social benefits to the enterprise and provided a successful case for the application of lean production VSM in the digital transformation environment. The paper extends knowledge in the area of digital transformation and lean production by helping us to establish and explain the relationship between lean production management methods and the promotion of new energy vehicle body coating performance from a dual perspective of digital transformation and VSM. None of the previous studies have considered the combined application of the studied digital transformation and VSM lean management approaches.

Diversifying configurational paths for athlete data protection

In the digital era, data has become a core resource driving the development of the global sports industry. With the increasing awareness of athlete data protection, ensuring the security of this sensitive information worldwide has become a significant issue. This study employs configurational theory and Fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis to investigate the various factors affecting athlete data protection. The research reveals three key configurational pathways: "Single Organization Support Type," "Organization-Environment Support Type," and "Organizational Support Absent Type." The "Single Organization Support Type" pathway emphasizes the role of a single organizational condition in athlete data protection, while the "Organization-Environment Support Type" considers the interaction between organizational and external environmental factors. In contrast, the "Organizational Support Absent Type" pathway reveals viable paths for data protection in the absence of effective organizational support. These findings not only provide valuable insights for policymakers to construct a more comprehensive framework for athlete data protection but also offer strategic support for the sustainable development of the global sports industry. They promote the safe use of sports data and the overall progress of the industry. Moreover, with the worldwide focus on sustainable development goals, the sports industry, as an essential component, plays an increasingly prominent role in promoting coordinated development of society, economy, and environment. The rational protection and utilization of sports data will contribute to achieving this global goal, especially in promoting healthy lifestyles, gender equality, and inclusive social construction. Therefore, the conclusions of this study are not only instructive for data governance within the sports domain but also provide practical contributions to global sustainable development.

Factors affecting the protection of data rights in sports events: a configurational analysis

The development of algorithms and the spread of digital infrastructure have contributed significantly to the productivity of the digital economy. Data has come to be known as the "oil of the digital economy". At the same time, data has begun to participate more deeply in the production activities of the global sports industry chain, and the international discussion on how to protect the rights of sports event data has been increasing. Based on the configurational theory and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis, this study discusses the factors affecting the protection of sports event data rights. The study found three configuration paths for achieving high enterprise data protection effectiveness and two for achieving low enterprise data protection effectiveness. The results of this study provide theoretical support for governments to address the issue of sports event data rights. They will also facilitate the safe use of data in sports, promote the global sports industry and humanitarian action development, and contribute to international sustainable development.

Distributed innovation, knowledge re-orchestration, and digital product innovation performance: the moderated mediation roles of intellectual property protection and knowledge exchange activities

Purpose

Despite the support of digital technology, there is a high degree of ambiguity and fluidity in the boundaries of digital products. This is because the addition of distributed innovation entities has an impact on the scope and scale of digital product innovation. Building upon the knowledge orchestration perspective, this study aims to construct a theoretical model, comprising distributed innovation, knowledge reorchestration and digital product innovation performance, and discuss the moderating roles of intellectual property protection and knowledge exchange activities.

Design/methodology/approach

Using a sample of 362 Chinese science and technology enterprises, the scholarship’s framework and hypotheses were tested using regression and bootstrap analysis.

Findings

The results confirm that distributed innovation positively enhances enterprises’ digital product innovation performance; knowledge reorchestration plays a partial mediating role in the linkage amongst distributed innovation and digital product innovation performance; and intellectual property protection and knowledge exchange activities negatively and positively moderate the mediating role of knowledge reorchestration amongst distributed innovation and digital product innovation performance, respectively.

Originality/value

This empirical scholarship explores the effect mechanism of intellectual property protection, knowledge exchange activities and knowledge reorchestration on the linkage amongst distributed innovation and digital product innovation performance. This paper expands the theoretical application of distributed innovation, knowledge orchestration and other related theories in the context of the digital economy and further provides a policymaking reference for the improvement of enterprises’ digital product innovations.

Government Supports, Digital Capability, and Organizational Resilience Capacity during COVID-19: The Moderation Role of Organizational Unlearning

This paper provides an investigation into how different types of government supports can be used to enhance organizational resilience capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on resource orchestration theory, this study examines the effects of direct government support and indirect government support on organizational resilience capacity, the mediation role of digital capability, and the moderation effects of organizational unlearning. The empirical results from 205 Chinese firms show that direct government support and indirect government support have positive effects on organizational resilience capacity, which were mediated by digital capability. In addition, organizational unlearning positively and negatively moderates the positive relationship between direct government support, indirect government support and digital capability. Our theoretical discussion and empirical results contribute to the literature related to organizational resilience, digital capability, government support, and organizational unlearning.

Process innovation in the digital age of business: the role of digital business intensity and knowledge management

Purpose

This paper aims to examine the dynamic relationship between digital business intensity (DBI) and process innovation through knowledge management. More specifically, the paper investigates the mechanism through which DBI and knowledge management jointly influence process innovation.

Design/methodology/approach

The study used a single informant approach of data collection and consistent with prior research, and a random sample of CIOs was selected and invited to participate in the survey resulting in a total 193 usable responses. The analysis and empirical validation of the research model used partial least square.

Findings

The results reveal a positive link between DBI and process innovation. This finding presents empirical support for hitherto anecdotal evidence regarding the impact of DBI on process innovation. In particular, the study notes the impactful role of DBI as an input repertoire that facilitates knowledge management with subsequent positive effects on process innovation. Results further surface an accentuating interplay between DBI and knowledge management on process innovation.

Originality/value

The current study advances our understanding of how DBI, a pre-condition to attaining digital business strategy, influences process innovation. Moreover, investigating the consequences of DBI should help offer an initial insight to managers and top management facing the challenge of implementing a successful digital footprint in an increasingly digital business landscape. Furthermore, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to investigate how digitization efforts and knowledge management practices jointly affect process innovation.
