Abstract
We conducted a targeted literature review to understand the determinants of meningococcal serogroups A, C, W, and Y (MenACWY) and meningococcal serogroup B (MenB) vaccination coverage and adherence to vaccination schedules in the USA, and to identify evidence to support improvement of MenACWY and MenB vaccination coverage and adherence in older adolescents. Sources published since 2011 were considered, with sources published since 2015 given preference. Out of 2355 citations screened, 47 (46 studies) were selected for inclusion. Determinants of coverage and adherence ranging from patient-level sociodemographic factors to policy-level factors were identified. Four determinants identified were associated with improved coverage and adherence: (1) well-child, preventive, or vaccination-only appointments (particularly for older adolescents); (2) provider-initiated, provider-driven vaccine recommendations; (3) provider education about meningococcal disease and vaccine recommendations; and (4) state-level school-entry immunization policies. This robust review of the literature sheds light on the continued low MenACWY and MenB vaccination coverage and adherence among older adolescents (16-23 years of age) compared with that of younger adolescents (11-15 years of age) in the USA. The evidence supports a renewed call to action by local and national health authorities and medical organizations urging healthcare professionals to implement a healthcare visit for 16-year-olds and focus on vaccination as a key component of the visit.

Abstract
Vaccines remain a fundamental intervention for preventing illness and death. In the United States, suboptimal vaccine uptake in adolescents and young adults has been observed for meningococcal conjugate (MenACWY) and serogroup B meningococcal (MenB) vaccines, particularly among marginalized communities, despite current recommendations by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. A systematic literature search was conducted in the MEDLINE and MEDLINE In-Process, Embase, Cochrane, PsychInfo, and CINAHL databases to identify both drivers of, and barriers to, MenACWY and MenB vaccine uptake in adolescents and young adults. A total of 34 of 46 eligible studies that presented outcomes stratified by race/ethnicity, geography, and socioeconomic status were selected for review. Results showed MenACWY and MenB vaccination coverage in adolescents and young adults is impacted by racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographic disparities. Gaps also exist in insurance for, or access to, these vaccines in adolescents and young adults. Moreover, there was variability in the understanding and implementation of the shared decision-making recommendations for the MenB vaccine. Disease awareness campaigns, increased clarity in accessing all meningococcal vaccines, and further research on the relationships between measures of marginalization and its impact on vaccine coverage in adolescents and young adults are needed to reduce the incidence of severe infections.

Abstract
Infections by meningococcal species are extremely rare in the first days of life. We present a fatal case of early-onset sepsis presenting at birth, caused by intrauterine transmission of serogroup Y N. meningitidis, evidenced clinically and histologically by corresponding chorioamnionitis and N. meningitidis-positive amniotic fluid. This case confirms a long-standing suspicion that N. meningitidis can be transmitted in utero.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The goal of this study was to categorize reasons behind missed opportunities for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine initiation in an under-resourced population and to identify associated patient and clinic characteristics. METHODS Manual chart review was performed for patients aged 11 to 18 years who visited a primary care clinic in a health system in Texas, USA between 06/01/18 and 08/31/18 and were due for an initial HPV vaccine dose but did not receive it. Reasons for HPV vaccine noninitiation were categorized as follows: incomplete immunization record, no documentation of discussion (no documentation that the HPV vaccine was offered or ordered), refusal, staff/provider error, and medical. Multinomial logistic regression was used to examine factors associated with each category. RESULTS Of 4467 adolescents seen in the study period, 575 (12.9%) were due for the first dose of HPV vaccine but did not receive it. The most common reason for noninitiation was incomplete immunization record (37%), followed by no documentation of discussion (24%), refusal (20%), staff/provider error (15%), and medical (4%). The highest odds of incomplete immunization were among older adolescents. The highest odds of no documentation of discussion were during sick visits. The highest odds of staff/provider error were among patients with commercial insurance. The lowest odds of refusal were in patients with county/indigent insurance. CONCLUSIONS The most common reason for missed opportunity visits for HPV vaccine initiation was lack of adequate immunization records. Our study highlights the importance of immunization record access and bidirectional reporting as important targets for future interventions.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine social and behavioral predictors of completing a course of 4CMenB vaccine in adolescents in a parallel cluster randomized controlled trial enrolling secondary school students (approximately 15–18 years of age) in South Australia. Participating schools were randomized to vaccination at baseline (intervention) or 12 months (control). Students assigned to the intervention group were excluded because they have received the first dose of 4CMenB vaccine at baseline. Logistic regression models examined factors associated with non-vaccination or incomplete 4CMenB doses. The study population comprised 11391 students. Overall, 8.3% (n = 946) received no doses and 91.7% (n = 10445) at least one dose. Of 10445 students who initiated their primary dose, 1334 (12.8%) did not complete the two-dose course. The final adjusted model indicated factors associated with non-vaccination in school students were older age (adjusted odds ratio; aOR 7.83, 95% CI: 4.13–14.82), smoking cigarettes (aOR 3.24, 95% CI: 1.93–5.44), exposure to passive smoke (aOR 2.64, 95% CI: 1.48–4.71), Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (aOR 1.77, 95% CI: 1.23–2.55), smoking water pipes (aOR 1.94, 95% CI:1.28–2.92), low socioeconomic status (aOR 1.77, 95% CI:1.21–2.60), attending government schools (aOR 1.76, 95% CI: 1.28, 2.43) and participating in intimate kissing (aOR 1.40, 95% CI:1.10–1.79). Multivariable analysis for incomplete vaccination yielded similar findings. Social and behavioral predictors of non-vaccination or incomplete MenB doses were also known risk factors for carriage of Neisseria meningitidis. Immunization strategies to improve MenB vaccination completion need to be tailored to social behavior of adolescents.

Abstract
We aimed to describe the impact of pertussis on adolescents, adults, and older adults over 2007–2018 in selected Latin American countries by reviewing the literature. We searched the Medline, Embase, Scopus, LILACS, Scielo, Google Scholar, CAPES Journals Web-portal, and Cochrane databases for observational epidemiological studies, clinical trials, and systematic reviews of primary studies. Data were extracted and analyzed for all individuals aged ≥10 years. Of 6,891 studies identified only 25 were eligible. Studies were conducted in Brazil (14), Argentina (4), Colombia (4), Mexico (2) and Chile (1). Epidemiological data among target population were limited. No studies clearly assessed the status of asymptomatic or oligosymptomatic B. pertussis carriers in these age groups. Among all pertussis cases identified, the percentage of patients ≥10 years-old ranged between 2.1% and 66.7% depending on country and sample characteristics. The definition of cases, diagnostic methods, and age groups were not consistent across studies.

Abstract
Objective: At a large public university, we aimed to evaluate an intervention designed to increase serogroup B meningococcal (MenB) vaccine uptake and awareness.Methods: Using a pretest-posttest design with a double posttest, we evaluated an intervention conducted by a local foundation and the Florida Department of Health that distributed MenB vaccine on campus and conducted an educational campaign. Prior to intervention activities, we recruited students to complete a survey about their MenB knowledge and attitudes. For survey participants who provided contact information, we sent two follow-up surveys and assessed MenB vaccine records. We used chi-square tests, adjusted for nonindependence, to compare preintervention to postintervention (three-month and one-year) vaccination and attitudes.Results: Among the 686 students with accessible vaccine records, MenB vaccine initiation increased 9% (from 24% to 33%) and completion increased 8% (from 13% to 21%) from before the intervention to one year after the intervention. When restricting to students who completed the relevant follow-up surveys, the percentage of students who heard of the MenB vaccine increased by 15% (p > .001) from before the intervention to three months after (n = 188 students) and maintained a 10% increase (p > .001) one year after the intervention (n = 261 students). Among students that heard of the MenB vaccine, the percentage of students who thought they needed the MenB vaccine even though they received the MenACWY increased 14% (p = .03) by the three-month postintervention survey and up to 18% by the one-year follow-up (p = .002).Conclusions: A university-wide, on-campus vaccination and educational campaign increased college students' MenB vaccine initiation, completion, and knowledge.Clinicaltrials.gov ID: NCT02975596.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Serogroup B meningococcal (MenB) vaccination recommendations for adolescents in the United States (US) include routine vaccination for all individuals at increased risk and vaccination for individuals not at increased risk aged 16-23 years (preferred age 16-18 years) based on shared clinical decision-making. The two licensed MenB vaccines require administration of ≥2 doses. METHODS This cross-sectional study analyzed 2017-2018 National Immunization Survey-Teen (NIS-Teen) data to evaluate ≥1 dose and ≥2 dose MenB vaccination coverage among adolescents aged 17 years. Multivariable logistic regression was used to further evaluate determinants of MenB vaccination. RESULTS Nationally, MenB vaccination coverage among 17-year-olds increased from 14.5% in 2017 to 17.2% in 2018 for ≥1 dose and from 6.3% to 8.4% for ≥2 doses. MenB vaccination coverage (2017-2018) was the lowest in the South (≥1 dose: 14.6%; ≥2 doses: 6.3%) and highest in the Northeast region (18.3% and 9.3%), with variation observed by census division. Adolescents were more likely to have received ≥1 dose of MenB vaccine if they had any Medicaid insurance (odds ratio [OR], 1.77; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.32-2.39) or had received human papillomavirus (OR, 1.94; 95% CI, 1.41-2.67) or meningococcal A, C, W, and Y (OR, 4.03; 95% CI, 2.92-5.56) vaccinations. CONCLUSIONS MenB first-dose coverage in the US is low, and even lower for a second dose, with regional variation. Being up to date with other routinely administered vaccines increased the likelihood of receiving MenB vaccination.
