Abstract
This study explores the synthesis and characterization of g-C3N4/TiO2 composites for the enhanced efficiency for sonophotocatalytic degradation of norfloxacin under visible light and ultrasonic vibrations. Comprehensive structural, morphological, and spectroscopic analyses confirm the successful formation of composites and their effective charge separation by a strong interfacial interaction. The g-C3N4/TiO2 composites exhibited superior norfloxacin degradation efficiency under optimized sonophotocatalytic conditions, with a calculated rate constant of 5.91 × 10-2 s-1, outperforming traditional photocatalytic methods. Mechanistic insights reveal that the S-scheme heterojunctions and piezoelectric fields in g-C3N4/TiO2 composites significantly enhance sonophotocatalytic activity. Moreover, LC-MS analysis identified the degradation pathways, demonstrating efficient mineralization into non-toxic byproducts. These findings suggest the potential of g-C3N4/TiO2 composites as sustainable catalysts for antibiotic removal in water treatment.

Abstract
Photocatalytic CO2 reduction is considered as a promising strategy for CO2 utilization and producing renewable energy, however, it remains challenge in the improvement of photocatalytic performance for wide-band-gap photocatalyst with controllable product selectivity. Herein, the sulfur-doped In(OH)3 (In(OH)xSy-z) nanocubes are developed for selective photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to CH4 under simulated light irradiation. The CH4 yield of the optimal In(OH)xSy-1.0 can be enhanced up to 39 times and the CH4 selectivity can be regulated as high as 80.75% compared to that of pristine In(OH)3. The substitution of sulfur atoms for hydroxyl groups in In(OH)3 enhances the visible light absorption capability, and further improves the hydrophilicity behavior, which promotes the H2O dissociation into protons (H*) and accelerates the dynamic proton-feeding CO2 hydrogenation. In situ DRIFTs and DFT calculation confirm that the non-metal sulfur sites significantly weaken the over-potential of the H2O oxidation and prevent the formation of ·OH radicals, enabling the stabilization of *CHO intermediates and thus facilitating CH4 production. This work highlights the promotion effect of the non-metal doping engineering on wide-band-gap photocatalysts for tailoring the product selectivity in photocatalytic CO2 reduction.

Abstract
Constructing heterojunction photocatalysts are widely applied to boost the photocatalytic activity of materials. Here, a novel covalent organic framework (COF) material with heptazine units was developed and hybridized with TiO2 nano particles (NPs) to fabricate the Heptazine-COF@TiO2 photocatalysts for acetaminophen (AAP) photodegradation. The successfully assembled heptazine unit endows the Heptazine-COF with outstanding semiconductor property (optical bandgap is 2.53 eV). The synthesized Heptazine-COF@TiO2 hybrids is proved to have the heterojunction structure with high visible light activity and fast charge-carrier mobility, and exhibits better performance in photodegradation of AAP under visible light. The excellent photodegradation efficiency (rate constant: 0.758 min-1) and high reusability (rate constant: 0.452 min-1 in the 6th cycles) of the optimized sample outperform the traditional inorganic photocatalysts and other heterojunction photocatalysts. In addition, these photocatalysts present universal degradation activity for other dyes and antibiotics.

Abstract
Hydrogen production technology has triggered a research boom in order to alleviate the problems of environmental pollution and the pressure on non-renewable energy sources. The key factor of this technology is the use of an efficient photocatalyst. g-C3N4 is a typical semiconductor photocatalytic material that is non-toxic and environmentally friendly and does not cause any serious harm to human beings. Therefore, it can be applied to drug degradation and the photocatalytic production of H2. Combined with ZnIn2S4, this semiconductor photocatalytic material, with a typical lamellar structure, has become one of the most promising catalysts for research due to its suitable bandgap structure and excellent photoelectric properties. In this study, 10% g-C3N4/ZnIn2S4 nano-heterojunction composite photocatalytic materials were successfully prepared by compounding ZnIn2S4 and g-C3N4 semiconductor materials with good visible-light-trapping ability. Under visible light irradiation, the photocatalytic activity of the composites was significantly better than that of pure g-C3N4 and ZnIn2S4. This is attributed to the formation of a heterojunction structure, which effectively inhibited the recombination of photogenerated carriers through the interfacial contact between the two semiconducting materials, and then improved the separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs, thus enhancing the catalytic activity. In this study, pure g-C3N4 and ZnIn2S4 were prepared using calcination and hydrothermal methods, and then, the composites were synthesized using ultrasonic and hydrothermal means. The differences in the structure, morphology, and hydrogen production performance of the materials before and after recombination were analyzed in detail using XRD, SEM, and FTIR characterization, which further verified that the 10% g-C3N4/ZnIn2S4 nano-heterojunction composites possessed excellent photocatalytic activity and stability, providing new possibilities for the optimization and application of photocatalytic hydrogen production technology.

Abstract
This study introduces a novel approach to develop a multifunctional coating on cotton fabric, emphasizing the utilization of cotton fiber as a biological macromolecule, by integrating a TiO2@g-C3N4 layered structure to confer superhydrophobic properties and multiple functionalities. The engineered structure not only enhances fabric roughness but also incorporates non-fluoro hydrophobic agents, thereby imparting diverse capabilities such as photocatalysis, oil-water separation, and self-cleaning to the cotton substrate. Fabrication of the TiO2@g-C3N4 layered structure involved ultrasonic dispersion of TiO2 and g-C3N4, subsequently deposited onto cotton fabric. Sequential hydrophobic treatment with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) achieved superhydrophobicity, exhibiting an exceptional water contact angle (WCA) of 157.9°. Comprehensive characterization via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and thermogravimetric validated the composite's structural and chemical properties. The introduced TiO2@g-C3N4 structure significantly enhanced fabric roughness, while PDMS treatment lowered surface energy and IPDI hydrolysis facilitated cross-linking, ensuring durability. The resultant TiO2@g-C3N4/PDMS cotton exhibited outstanding self-cleaning properties and demonstrated oil adsorption capacity, accommodating both heavy and light oils. Notably, this superhydrophobic cotton efficiently separated water-oil mixtures, achieving 96.8 % efficiency even after 10 cycles. Moreover, under simulated light, it displayed outstanding photocatalytic degradation (93.2 %) of methylene blue while maintaining a WCA of 150° post-degradation, highlighting sustained functionality. This innovation holds promise for sustainable applications, offering robust physical and chemical durability within the realm of biological macromolecules. The amalgamation of TiO2@g-C3N4 layered structure and PDMS treatment on cotton fabric underscores a sustainable approach to address water-oil separation challenges and enable efficient self-cleaning. This research demonstrates a significant step towards sustainable material applications and addresses pertinent real-world challenges in diverse technological domains.

Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) TiO2 hierarchical microspheres (THMs) were successfully prepared via a facial template-free hydrothermal approach. The possible growth mechanism of THM was also investigated by TiCl4 concentration-, time-, and temperature-dependent experiments. The results indicate that the formation of an urchin-like hierarchical structure may follow a "nucleation-dissolution and recrystallization-assembly" process. THM was employed for photoreforming under various catalyst and glucose concentrations, solvent compositions, and pH values. The H2 production rate, glucose conversion, arabinose and formic acid selectivity reached 9.44 mmol gcat.-1h-1, 86.35%, 11.32%, and 46.87%, respectively, under the modulated condition with Pt as cocatalyst; this is attributed to the enhanced mass diffusion caused by the 3D hierarchical morphology as well as the interaction between unsaturated Ti atoms (or oxygen vacancies) in THM and the hydroxyl oxygen atoms on glucose. In addition, the enhanced light absorption induced by defects also exerts a positive effect. In this work, we present an emerging sustainable strategy for the coproduction of H2 and value-added chemicals from biomass-based glucose with economic photocatalysts under mild conditions.

Abstract
Being chemically stable, low cost and made from abundant resources, titanium dioxide (TiO2) possesses the most desired advantages for photocatalytic applications. However, the intrinsic limits of high surface hydrogen adsorption energy, wide band gap, low separation rate and rapid recombination of the photogenerated charge carriers greatly hamper its utilization. To address these issues, the present work combines density functional theory (DFT) calculations with rational modifications of TiO2 with nickel doping and an ultra-thin shield of fluorinated carbon (FNT) for application in the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Comprehensive studies imply that the synergistic modifications not only optimize the surface H adsorption, but also facilitate the interfacial charge transfer and simultaneously prevent the photochemical and chemical corrosion of the catalysts. In good agreement with the theoretical predictions, the resulting FNT photocatalysts demonstrate an optimal HER efficiency of 13.0 mmol g-1 h-1, nearly 33-times and over three-times beyond that of the pristine TiO2 (0.4 mmol g-1 h-1) and the Ni-doped TiO2 (4.2 mmol g-1 h-1), respectively. Moreover, the composite also exhibits excellent stability with a well-reproducible HER performance over a 66-hour cyclic HER test of 15 cycles.

Abstract
The photocatalytic degradation of pollutants is an effective and sustainable way to solve environmental problems, and the key is to develop an efficient, low-cost, and stable photocatalyst. Polymeric potassium poly(heptazine imide) (K-PHI), as a new member of the carbon nitride family, is a promising candidate but is characterized by a high charge recombination rate. To solve this problem, K-PHI was in-situ composited with MXene Ti3C2-derived TiO2 to construct a type-II heterojunction. The morphology and structure of composite K-PHI/TiO2 photocatalysts were characterized via different technologies, including TEM, XRD, FT-IR, XPS, and UV-vis reflectance spectra. Robust heterostructures and tight interactions between the two components of the composite were verified. Furthermore, the K-PHI/TiO2 photocatalyst showed excellent activity for Rhodamine 6G removal under visible light illumination. When the weight percent of K-PHI in the original mixture of K-PHI and Ti3C2 was set to 10%, the prepared K-PHI/TiO2 composite photocatalyst shows the highest photocatalytic degradation efficiency as high as 96.3%. The electron paramagnetic resonance characterization indicated that the·OH radical is the active species accounting for the degradation of Rhodamine 6G.

Abstract
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanomaterials have been widely used in photocatalytic energy conversion and environmental remediation due to their advantages of low cost, chemical stability, and relatively high photo-activity. However, applications of TiO2 have been restricted in the ultraviolet range because of the wide band gap. Broadening the light absorption of TiO2 nanomaterials is an efficient way to improve the photocatalytic activity. Thus, black TiO2 with extended light response range in the visible light and even near infrared light has been extensively exploited as efficient photocatalysts in the last decade. This review represents an attempt to conclude the recent developments in black TiO2 nanomaterials synthesized by modified treatment, which presented different structure, morphological features, reduced band gap, and enhanced solar energy harvesting efficiency. Special emphasis has been given to the newly developed synthetic methods, porous black TiO2, and the approaches for further improving the photocatalytic activity of black TiO2. Various black TiO2, doped black TiO2, metal-loaded black TiO2 and black TiO2 heterojunction photocatalysts, and their photocatalytic applications and mechanisms in the field of energy and environment are summarized in this review, to provide useful insights and new ideas in the related field.

Abstract
To remove multitudinous pollutants from wastewater, the design of a highly efficient and multifunctional photocatalyst is necessary. A novel CQDs/SnO2-x/BiOI photocatalyst (named CSnBI composite) was prepared by combining carbon quantum dots (CQDs), large specific surface area SnO2-x nanocrystals and BiOI nanocrystals to obtain a compact hybrid structure. TEM and Raman techniques confirmed the structure of CSnBI composite. The photocurrent and EIS showed that the photoexcited electron-hole pairs separation efficiency was improved. As anticipated, novel CSnBI photocatalyst can successfully remove tetracycline, methyl orange, E. coli (Escherichia coli) and S. aureus under a LED light due to the hybridization contaction among CQDs, SnO2-x and BiOI. The mechanism showed that the introduction of CQDs promoted visible light absorption and efficient separation of photogenerated carriers of SnO2-x/BiOI heterojunction. The capture experiment and related measurements showed that h+, •O2- and •OH are active species in the photocatalytic process. This study gave a novel case for facile construction of photocatalysts with tight hybrid structure.

Abstract
Defect engineering and heterojunction are promising strategies to improve the photocatalytic performance of particular catalyst through effective charge carrier separation and transport. Herein, we developed Z-scheme MgO/TiO2/g-C3N4 ternary heterojunction photocatalyst with surface defects and effective charge separation for reduction of recalcitrant dinitrobenzene isomers under simulated solar light irradiation. Mott-Schottky (MS) plot analysis and electron spin resonance (ESR) radical trapping experiment suggested the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction at the interface of TiO2/g-C3N4, which played a crucial role in the electron-hole separation. Incorporating MgO into the structure further enhances charge separation via Ti3+ and oxygen vacancy (OV) defects formation at the TiO2/MgO interface as confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. Besides, the surface basicity of MgO enhanced conversion of dinitrobenzene (DNB) isomers through formation of nitrophenylhydroxylamine intermediate which can easily be reduced to phenylenediamines (PDAs). As confirmed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis, excellent selectivity for PDAs (95-98%) was achieved in 90 min with ternary MgO/TiO2/g-C3N4 composite compared to the binary MgO/TiO2 and TiO2/g-C3N4. A possible reaction pathway and photocatalytic reduction mechanism were proposed and elucidated. This work demonstrated an effective strategy to reduce recalcitrant dinitrobenzene isomers using efficient, low-cost, and environmental benign photocatalyst with a facile identification of reaction intermediates.

Abstract
Intensive research has been focused on the synthesis of N-modified TiO2 materials having visible light absorption in order to get higher solar photocatalytic degradation rates of pollutants in water. However, an exhaustive revision of the topic underlines several controversial issues related to N-modified TiO2 materials; these issues concern (a) the methodology used for preparation, (b) the assessment of the structural characteristics, (c) the mechanistic action modes and (d) the raisons argued to explain the limited performances of the prepared materials for organic and biological targets photodegradation in water. Taking advantage of last year's progress in analytical chemistry and in material characterization methods, the authors show, for example, that some works in the literature controversially attribute the term nitrogen doping without enough analytical evidence. Additionally, some papers describe N-modified TiO2 photocatalysts as being able to generate holes with enough oxidative potential to form hydroxyl radicals under visible light. This last assertion often derives from a no pertinent use of illumination sources, light filters, or targets or a limited understanding of the thermodynamic aspects of the studied systems. None of N-containing materials prepared by herein presented methods leads, under solar light, to a significant enhancement in pollutants degradation and microorganism's inactivation kinetics.

Abstract
The feasibility of preparing TiO2/g-CN heterojunction from Ti-incorporated dried dye wastewater sludge is explored in this study. Two reaction routes of composite formation were evaluated. In the initial approach, one-step calcination of dried sludge and melamine mixture @600 °C was carried out. Detailed morphological and chemical characterizations showed that the one-step calcination route did not create TiO2/g-CN composites; instead, only N-doped anatase TiO2 composites were formed. Moreover, due to the non-uniform composition of organic content in the dried sludge, it was not easy to control the N doping level by varying melamine content (0-100%) in the precursor mix. However, successful formation of anatase TiO2 and g-CN was observed when a two-step calcination route was followed, i.e., via synthesis of anatase TiO2 from dried sludge, and later development of heterojunction by calcining (@550 °C) the TiO2 and melamine mixture. X-ray diffraction along with infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy verified the effective heterojunction. In addition, maximum atmospheric NO removal under UV and visible light were observed for the prepared composite when the melamine content in the precursor mixture was 70%. After 1 h of UV and visible light irradiation, the best TiO2/g-CN composite removed 25.71% and 13.50% of NO, respectively. Optical characterization suggested that the enhanced NO oxidation under UV/visible light was due to the bandgap narrowing and diminished photogenerated electron-hole recombination.

Abstract
In the present work, TiO2-graphite-phase-carbon-nitride (TiO2/g-C3N4) was prepared through a hydrothermal method to obtain a new photocatalytic material. This material was characterized by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray energy spectrometer (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Solid-state UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectrometry (UV-Vis-DRS) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The synthesized TiO2/g-C3N4 exhibited homogeneous morphology, in which TiO2 nanoparticles were uniformly distributed on the g-C3N4 nanosheets. Regarding its potential use as photocatalytic material in the treatment of mineral processing wastewater, 18% TiO2/g-C3N4 showed superior photodegradation performance than TiO2 and g-C3N4, to give 97.1% degradation rate under 100 min of simulated light irradiation. The experimental results showed that the successful incorporation of TiO2 on g-C3N4 nanosheets enhanced the spectral response range of TiO2/g-C3N4, and the photocatalytic activity was improved. In view of that, it can be considered that this kind of photocatalytic material has a good prospect in the treatment of mineral processing wastewater, which would have clearly environmental relevance.

Abstract
Environmental crisis aroused from carcinogenic and mutagenic heavy metal Cr(VI)-containing wastewater has attracted great attention. Herein, a direct Z-scheme three-dimensional MgIn2S4 nanoflowers/two-dimensional oxygen-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets heterostructured composite photocatalysts were fabricated for Cr(VI) photoreduction. The crystalline structure, morphology, specific surface areas, chemical components, optical properties, as well as photoelectrochemical performance of the fabricated photocatalyst were systematically studied. All the hybrids photocatalysts exhibited superior Cr(VI) photoreduction performance than a single component. The optimal sample showed 2.0 and 343.7 times increasing than three-dimensional MgIn2S4 nanoflowers and two-dimensional oxygen-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets, respectively. The enhancement of the Cr(VI) photoreduction performance could be ascribed to the enhanced specific surface areas, the improved light absorption, and the Z-scheme charge carriers' separation and migration pathway. Moreover, the role of superoxide radicals was investigated. It is speculated that this research would present a new sight toward photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction.

Abstract
The interesting g-C3N4 nanosheet morphology has drawn huge attention in photocatalytic applications because of its special features. Nonetheless, the relative activity of these nanosheets is still controversial due to the low available active sites and the high recombination probability of photo-induced charge carriers. In this work, in situ sol-gel approach was applied to synthesize holey g-C3N4 nanosheets/hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanospheres with plentiful in-plane holes. Herein, the presence of Ca2+ plays a key role in the formation of holey defects on 2D g-C3N4. In-plane holes provide nanosheets with more active edges and diffusion channelsv, resulting in a tremendous enhanced mass and photo-induced charge transfer speed. Moreover, the holes make highly numbered boundaries, which lead to the prevention of aggregation. On the other hand, distributed nano-HAp spheres on these nanosheets can form effective heterojunctions having high photo-degradation ability of pollutants. Intrinsic O-vacancies inside HAp unit cells mainly affect the capture of photogenerated electrons, pollutant molecules, and O2 gas. The synergistic presence of O-vacancies and holey defects (C-vacancies) on 2D g-C3N4 plays a key role in raising the photocatalytic performance of holey g-C3N4/HAp. It can be concluded that the proposed preparation method is a promising approach for simultaneous synthesis of holey g-C3N4 and surface heterojunctions of Ca-based materials. This new structure has shown significant degradation ability of bisphenol A, a prominent pollutant, with a low amount (0.01 g) and short time.

Abstract
In this work, fibrous silica-titania (FST) was successfully prepared by the microemulsion method prior to the addition of three types of carbonaceous materials: graphitic-carbon nitride, g-C3N4 (CN), graphene nanoplatelets (GN), and multi-wall carbon nanotubes, MWCNT (CNT), via a solid-state microwave irradiation technique. The catalysts were characterized using XRD, FESEM, TEM, FTIR, UV-Vis DRS, N2 adsorption-desorption, XPS and ESR, while their photoactivity was examined on the degradation of toxic 2-chlorophenol (2-CP). The result demonstrated that the initial reaction rate was in the following order: CNFST (5.1 × 10-3 mM min-1) > GNFST (2.5 × 10-3 mM min-1) > CNTFST (2.3 × 10-3 mM min-1). The best performance was due to the polymeric structure of g-C3N4 with a good dispersion of C and N on the surface FST. This dispersion contributed towards an appropriate quantity of defect sites, as a consequence of the greater interaction between g-C3N4 and the FST support, that led to narrowed of band gap energy (2.98 eV to 2.10 eV). The effect of scavenger and ESR studies confirmed that the photodegradation over CNFST occurred via a Z-scheme mechanism. It is noteworthy that the addition of green carbonaceous materials on the FST markedly enhanced the photodegradation of toxic 2-CP.

It was heterojunctioned with graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) to augment photoactivity under UV/visible light irradiance. Later the as-prepared samples were utilized to remove nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the atmospheric condition through photocatalysis. Heterojunction between S-TiO2 and g-CN was prepared through facile calcination (@550 °C) of S-TiO2 and melamine mix. Advanced sample characterization was carried out and documented extensively. Successful heterojunction was confirmed from the assessment of morphological and optical attributes of the samples. Finally, the prepared samples' level of photoactivity was assessed through photooxidation of NOx under both UV and visible light irradiance. Enhanced photoactivity was observed in the prepared samples irrespective of the light types. After 1 h of UV/visible light-based photooxidation, the best sample STC4 was found to remove 15.18% and 9.16% of atmospheric NO, respectively. In STC4, the mixing ratio of S-TiO2, to melamine was maintained as 1:3. Moreover, the optical bandgap of STC4 was found as 2.65 eV, where for S-TiO2, it was 2.83 eV. Hence, the restrained rate of photogenerated charge recombination and tailored energy bandgap of the as-prepared samples were the primary factors for enhancing photoactivity.

Abstract
The research on photocatalytic membrane reactors (PMRs) started around the year 2000 with the study of wastewater treatment by degradation reactions of recalcitrant organic pollutants, and since then the evolution of our scientific knowledge has increased significantly, broadening interest in reactions such as the synthesis of organic chemicals. In this paper, we focus on some initial problems and how they have been solved/reduced over time to improve the performance of processes in PMRs. Some know-how gained during these last two decades of research concerns decreasing/avoiding the degradation of the polymeric membranes, improving photocatalyst reuse, decreasing membrane fouling, enhancing visible light photocatalysts, and improving selectivity towards the reaction product(s) in synthesis reactions (partial oxidation and reduction). All these aspects are discussed in detail in this review. This technology seems quite mature in the case of water and wastewater treatment using submerged photocatalytic membrane reactors (SPMRs), while for applications concerning synthesis reactions, additional knowledge is required.

Abstract
A novel solar active AgBr/BiOBr/TiO2 catalyst was synthesized by a facile coprecipitation method for solar-driven water remediation. The synthesized material composed of flower-like TiO2 nanoparticles loaded on BiOBr nanosheets and with homogeneous surface distributed Ag/AgBr nanoparticles. The internal electric field between BiOBr/TiO2 heterojunction greatly facilitated the charge carrier migration; the introduction of narrow band gap semiconductors (AgBr and BiOBr) promoted the visible light adsorption; and the Ag/AgBr nanoparticles acted as photosensitizer to further improve the light utilization. The new material showed 7.6- and 4.0-times activity of pure TiO2 and BiOBr under solar light, and the contribution of reactive species on anthracene degradation followed the order of h+ >O2•-> •OH. The degradation mechanism and pathway were proposed based on intermediates analysis and DFT calculation. The QSAR analysis revealed that the environmental risks of contaminants were greatly reduced during the photocatalysis process but some intermediates were still toxic. The high photocatalytic activity, stability and adaptability all indicated that this new material owns great application potential for cost-effective photocatalytic remediation of persistent organic contaminants under solar light.

Abstract
Heterogeneously structured materials with supported precious metals, such as Pd, Pt, and Ru, as co-catalysts are important catalysts for efficient photocatalytic water splitting. However, the high costs and low reserves of precious metals have been an obstacle to their application in hydrogen production. In this work, the noble-metal-free Cd0.3Zn0.7S solid solution was designed and synthesized with an optimized molar ratio of Cd/Zn for the best visible light photocatalytic performance. In addition, a heterojunction hybrid material formed between the Cd0.3Zn0.7S and Ni(OH)2 nanosheet was engineered to improve the utilization of light and to inhibit the recombination of holes and electrons. Ni(OH)2 nanosheets assisted the transfer of the photoexcited electrons to participate in the reduction reactions which is critical for efficient and rapid catalytic hydrogen production. The photoelectrochemical property of the hybrid material was investigated with UV-vis absorption, photoluminance (PL) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. The mechanism of the high-efficiency and low-cost photocatalytic hydrogen production was established by analyzing the hydrogen evolution kinetics. With the success of replacing precious metal with nickel-based surface heterostructure, this work is expected to provide a new type of photocatalyst for the application of photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Abstract
A novel composite electrospun fiber with high photocatalytic efficiency, good stability, strong hydrophobicity, good pollution resistance, and easy separation and recovery was synthesized. The TiO2@g-C3N4 (TCN) with special core-shell structure (5-10 nm shell) facilitated the separation of photogenerated electron-holes and had high photocatalytic performance. The poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) electrospun fiber immobilized with TCN was successfully fabricated (PVDF-TCN) with uniform distribution and size of nanofibers by using electrospinning, which was used for degrading tetracycline under visible-light irradiation (> 400 nm). A special rougher surface of electrospun fiber obtained by washing of sacrificial PVP increased the specific surface area, which became more conducive to the adhesion of the catalyst. The water contact angle and FTIR results demonstrated that the electrospun fiber became extremely hydrophilic after adding TCN catalyst, which could effectively mitigate the fiber pollution. The PVDF-TCN-0.2g electrospun fiber exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance and the degradation efficiency of tetracycline was up to 97% in 300 min under visible-light irradiation. The mechanism of PVDF-TCN electrospun fiber degradation of tetracycline in the photocatalytic process was also proposed. In addition, the PVDF-TCN-0.2g exhibited a stable activity after 4 cycles experiments since the degradation efficiency remained about 90%. Therefore, we believed this study provided a new strategy in catalyst immobilization and wastewater treatment.

Abstract
In this work, N-doped TiO2 (N-TiO2) with ample and tunable OVs was successfully synthesized, deriving from facile hydrothermal method and baked in the NH3 atmosphere. N-doping boosts the amount of surface hydroxyl and superoxide (O2-) of TiO2, demonstrated by XPS and nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT)-O2- quantitative reaction. Rich and tunable OVs were confirmed by low temperature electron spin resonance (ESR) results, demonstrating that doping of N into TiO2 can definitely construct higher OVs than the reference TiO2. Surface photovoltage spectrum (SPS) test, fluorescence experiments and electrochemical measurements all display that N-TiO2 photocatalysts with OVs have a higher severance efficiency of photogenerated e-/h+ pairs than the pristine TiO2. Photocatalytic evaluation results exhibit that N-TiO2 photocatalysts demonstrate better performance than the reference TiO2 toward decontamination of rhodamine B and tetracycline. TiO2 treated in ammonia atmosphere for 1 h shows the highest photocatalytic property. The visible light responsive catalytic behavior of TiO2 treated in ammonia atmosphere for 1 h is much higher than that of commercial TiO2 (P25) and the pristine TiO2, separately. The ameliorated visible light behavior of N-TiO2 photocatalysts is attributable to rich oxygen vacancies produced through introducing N into TiO2 and the boosted severance of photoactivated e-/h+.

Abstract
For the purpose of atmospheric NO removal, anatase TiO2/g-CN photocatalytic composites were prepared by using a facile template-free calcination route in atmospheric conditions. Considerably fiscal NP400 and laboratory-grade melamine were used as the precursor of the composites. Additionally, samples were prepared with different wt. ratios of TiO2 and melamine by using two distinct calcination temperatures (550 °C/600 °C). The morphological attributes of the composites were assessed with X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Additionally, the optical traits were evaluated and compared using UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and photoluminescence analysis. Finally, the photodegradation potentials for atmospheric NO by using the as-prepared composites were assessed under both UV and visible light irradiation. All the composites showed superior NO oxidation compared to NP400 and bulk g-CN. For the composites prepared by using the calcination temperature of 550 °C, the maximum NO removal was observed when the NP400 to melamine ratio was 1:2, irrespective of the utilized light irradiation type. Whereas for increased calcination temperature (600 °C), the maximum NO removal was observed at the precursor mix ratio of 1:3 (NP400:melamine). Successfully narrowed energy bandgaps were perceived in the as-prepared composites. Moreover, a subsequent drop in NO2 generation during NO oxidation was observed under both UV and visible light irradiation. Interestingly, higher calcination temperature during the synthesis of the catalysts has shown a significant drop in NO2 generation during the photodegradation of NO.

Abstract
Photocatalysis with potentially low cost and sustainable utilization is a typically environmentally benign method for the degradation of organic pollutants, but the rational design and fabrication of photocatalysts with high catalytic performance is still an enormous challenge. The efficient segregation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs in photocatalysts is a key and essential factor to decide photocatalytic activity. Herein, a novel Step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction photocatalyst, a g-C3N4/Bi2MoO6 (g-CN/BMO) composite, was successfully fabricated using g-C3N4 nanosheet-wrapped Bi2MoO6 microspheres. By adjusting the amount of g-C3N4 in BMO, a series of g-CN/BMO composites was prepared while optimizing posttreatment temperature. The resulting g-CN/BMO indicated well the photocatalytic performance for the degradation of phenol and hydrogen evolution reactions, especially, 100 g of g-CN was integrated into 100 g of the pre-calcined BMO at 200 °C to produce 100% g-CN/BMO-200, showing the highest photocatalytic performance compared to single composite BMO, BMO-200, g-CN, and g-CN/BMO-200 with other mass ratios. Combining the results from the density functional theory calculations and the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, for S-scheme heterojunction-structured g-CN/BMO-200, the internal electric field-, band edge bending- and coulomb interaction-driven efficient segregation of photogenerated electrons and holes at the interface is elucidated to explain the photocatalytic mechanism, and the resulting holes on the VB of BMO and electrons on the CB of g-CN are responsible for the improvement of the photocatalytic performance. This study revealed that for the S-scheme g-CN/BMO composite the internal electric field, band edge bending and coulomb interaction at the interface between g-CN and BMO can not only promote the effective segregation of electrons and holes, but also retain stronger redox ability. Such an investigation provides a facile and simple strategy to fabricate novel S-scheme heterojunction-structured photocatalysts for solar energy conversion.

Abstract
This work proposed an enhancing mechanism of both oxygen vacancies (OVs) and the heterostructure for amplifying the photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensing signal. The OVs were formed by in situ electrochemical reduction of TiO2 nanotube arrays (TNTAs), and well-separated Ag3VO4 nanoparticles (NPs) were then deposited on the TNTAs. The band gaps and positions of these nanomaterials were evaluated by Tauc equation and Mott-Schottky plots to verify the formation of the heterojunction. The OVs and heterojunction greatly enhanced the visible light absorption and improved the charge separation of TNTAs. The amplified PEC signal could be quenched by the resonance energy transfer between Ag3VO4 NPs and gold nanorods (Au NRs), which were labeled on the complementary DNA (cDNA) to the aptamer immobilized on the heterojunction. Upon the recognition of the aptamer to target analyte, the Au NR-cDNA was detached from the sensor, leading to a "signal-on" aptasensing strategy. Under optimal conditions, the PEC aptasensor displayed a detection limit of 0.015 pg mL-1 and a linear range from 0.02 to 300 ng mL-1 for 2,3',5,5'-tetrachlorobiphenyl.

Abstract
The preparation of titanium dioxide (TiO2) supported on a glass plate by heat attachment method is presented. With the use of response surface methodology based on a central composite design we investigated the influence of the experiment parameters of the TiO2 deposition (temperature of calcination (T), time of calcination (ts) and the concentration of TiO2 ((TiO2))) on photocatalytic activity of the semiconductor for the degradation of a model pollutant: methylene blue. The analysis of variance results showed that the selected quadratic model with interaction (R2 = 0.9802) was statistically significant. The experimental results showed that the degradation quantity of methylene blue increased when the ts value increased and T decreased. We have evaluated the photocatalytic activity of this supported catalyst (TiO2-GP) with a laboratory reactor under natural condition; the maximum removal (96.03%) was obtained at ts = 331 min, T = 559 °C and (TiO2) = 2.38 g/l. The method of desirability function was used to obtain the best combination of factor settings for achieving the maximum of degradation quantity ((TiO2) = 2.6 (g/l), T = 600 (°C) and ts = 240 (min)). The additional tests on the catalyst plates confirmed that the deposits keep their catalytic activity for several cycles of use.

Abstract
Research into the development of efficient semiconductor photocatalytic materials is a promising approach to solving environmental and energy problems worldwide. Among these materials, TiO2 photocatalysts are one of the most commonly used due to their efficient photoactivity, high stability, low cost and environmental friendliness. However, since the UV content of sunlight is less than 5%, the development of visible light-activated TiO2-based photocatalysts is essential to increase the solar energy efficiency. Here, we review recent works on advanced visible light-activated Ti3+-self-doped TiO2 (Ti3+–TiO2) photocatalysts with improved electronic band structures for efficient charge separation. We analyze the different methods used to produce Ti3+–TiO2 photocatalysts, where Ti3+ with a high oxygen defect density can be used for energy production from visible light. We categorize advanced modifications in electronic states of Ti3+–TiO2 by improving their photocatalytic activity. Ti3+–TiO2 photocatalysts with large charge separation and low recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes can be practically applied for energy conversion and advanced oxidation processes in natural environments and deserve significant attention.
