Abstract
Designing functional and durable electrocatalysts for the oxidation of alcohols plays a significant role for the development of direct alcohol fuel cells (DAFCs). Herein, carbon-supported ultrafine PdSnAg nanoparticles with an average size of 3.27 nm (denoted as PdSnAg/C NPs) have been synthesized for alcohols electrocatalysis. The smaller particle size means a higher proportion of surface exposed atoms for catalyzing the reaction followed by high catalytic performance. The multimetallic nanoalloys have potential electronic structure adjustment and synergistic effect between different components. The incorporation of oxophilic metals Sn and Ag facilitates the removal of intermediates produced during the oxidation of alcohols. The PdSnAg/C NPs exhibit a remarkable electrocatalytic performance for ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR) with the mass activity of 12.3 A mgPd-1, which is 15.6, 2.50 and 2.60 times higher than those of commercial Pd/C (0.790 A mgPd-1), PdSn/C NPs (4.85 A mgPd-1) and PdAg/C NPs (4.69 A mgPd-1), respectively. Meanwhile, PdSnAg/C NPs show superior mass activities of 10.6 A mgPd-1 and 6.65 A mgPd-1 for ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) and glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR), which are 14.3 and 8.30 times superior than the commercial Pd/C, respectively. The exceptional mass activity promises the PdSnAg/C NPs to be the potential Pd-based catalysts for alcohols electrocatalysis.

Abstract
Benefiting from both one-dimensional (1D) morphology and alloy composition, metal alloy nanowires have been exploited as advanced electrocatalysts in various electrochemical processes. In this review, the synthesis approaches for metal alloy nanowires are classified into two categories: direct syntheses and syntheses based on preformed 1D nanostructures. Ligand systems that are of critical importance to the formation of alloy nanowires are summarized and reviewed, together with the strategies imposed to achieve the co-reduction of different metals. Meanwhile, different scenarios that form alloy nanowires from pre-synthesized 1D nanostructures are compared and contrasted. In addition, the characterization and electrocatalytic applications of metal alloy nanowires are briefly discussed.

Abstract
The long-established practice of using organic solvents in synthetic chemistry is currently becoming a major focus of environmental alarms as many of the chemical wastes are generated in the form of organic solvents. Recently, various alternative solvents have been recognized by the scientific community, including water, ionic liquids, supercritical fluids, glycerol, polyethylene glycol, etc. Among these alternatives, water is unquestionably an ideal solvent as it is abundant, cheap, non-toxic, and non-flammable. In the last few decades, a breakthrough has been achieved in the field of transition metal-catalyzed dehydrogenation of alcohols and the related chemistry for the sustainable synthesis of a wide range of valuable compounds. Although a large number of reports with new potential are published every year following this alcohol dehydrogenation strategy, the utilization of water as a solvent in alcohol dehydrogenation and related coupling reactions is yet to be highlighted properly. This review summarizes the advances in metal-catalyzed dehydrogenative functionalization of alcohols using water as a solvent.

Abstract
rGO-modified indium oxide (In2O3) anchored PdPbAg nanoalloy composites (PdPbAg@rGO/In2O3) were prepared by a facile hydrothermal, annealing and reduction method. Electrochemical tests showed that the as-prepared trimetallic catalyst exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity and high resistance to CO poisoning compared with commercial Pd/C, mono-Pd and different bimetallic catalysts. Specifically, PdPbAg@rGO/In2O3 has the highest forward peak current density of 213.89 mA cm−2, which is 7.89 times that of Pd/C (27.07 mA cm−2). After 3600 s chronoamperometry (CA) test, the retained current density of PdPbAg@rGO/In2O3 reaches 78.15% of the initial value. Its excellent electrocatalytic oxidation performance is attributed to the support with large specific surface area and the strong synergistic effect of PdPbAg nanoalloys, which provide a large number of interfaces and achievable reactive sites. In addition, the introduction of rGO into the In2O3 matrix contributes to its excellent electron transfer and large specific surface area, which is beneficial to improving the catalytic ability of the catalyst. The study of this novel composite material provides a conceptual and applicable route for the development of advanced high electrochemical performance Pd-based electrocatalysts for direct ethylene glycol fuel cells. rGO-modified indium oxide (In2O3) anchored PdPbAg nanoalloy composites (PdPbAg@rGO/In2O3) were prepared by a facile hydrothermal, annealing and reduction method.![]()

Abstract
In recent times, the fabrication of noble metal-based catalysts with controllable morphologies has become a research hotspot. Electrocatalytic devices with excellent catalytic performance and enhanced durability for the ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR) and the glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR) are significant for commercial direct fuel cells. Herein, a series of PdPb sea urchin-like nanodendrite (ND) structures with controllable molar ratios were synthesized as EGOR and GOR electrocatalysts of high efficiency. The optimized structurally regular Pd3Pb NDs exhibit the best electrocatalytic activity and outstanding stability compared to other samples and commercial Pt/C. In addition, the integrated Pb on Pd3Pb NDs can mitigate the bond energy the intermediates generate and further boost the electrooxidation of the intermediates by supplying enough active sites without considering its intrinsic structure, which is beneficial to the enhanced EGOR and GOR activity and stability. With the assistance of electrochemical measurement, the mechanism of the enhanced alloy was further investigated. This paper presents a promising strategy to fabricate catalysts with stable structures, which will elucidate a very promising approach for developing Pd-based catalysts for further applications in fuel cells.

Abstract
Electro-oxidation of glycerol is a key anodic reaction in direct alcohol fuel cell (DAFCs). Exploring the cost-effective nanocatalysts for glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR) is very important for the development of DAFC, but it is still challenging. In this paper, nanofirework-like PtRu alloy catalyst was successfully synthesized and used for GOR in alkaline medium. Thanks to the unique nanofirework-like structure and synergetic effects, the activity and stability of the as-prepared PtRu alloy nanofireworks (NFs) toward GOR were significantly improved relative to Pt NFs. In particular, the peak current density of GOR catalyzed by the optimized Pt1Ru3 NFs catalyst reached 2412.0 mA mg-1, surpassing that of commercial Pt/C catalyst. This work has important guidance for the design of advanced anode electrocatalysts for fuel cells.
