Abstract
Electro-Fenton (EF) can in-situ produce H2O2 and effectively activate H2O2 to generate powerful reactive species for the destruction of contaminants under acidic conditions, however, the production of iron-containing sludge and requirement of low working pH significantly hinder its practical application. Herein, a novel Cu, N co-doped carbon (Cu-N@C) with metal organic framework (MOF) as a precursor was constructed and adopted for the elimination of pefloxacin (PEF) in the heterogeneous electro-Fenton (HEF) process. PEF could be almost completely removed within 1 h and total organic carbon (TOC) removal efficiency was 48.57% within 6 h. Meanwhile, Cu-N@C had good repeatability and environmental adaptability, it can still maintain excellent catalytic performance after 10 cycles, and it exhibited satisfactory remediation performance in simulated water matrix. In addition, the HEF process catalyzed by Cu-N@C also showed satisfactory degradation effect on other organic pollutants including atrazine, methylene blue, and chlorotetracycline. Under the action of impressed current, the HEF system could generate H2O2 in-situ, and the active species could be generated in the redox cycle of Cu0/Cu1+/Cu2+. Electron paramagnetic resonance and quenching experiments confirmed that •OH was the dominant active species in the degradation of organic compounds. The degradation process of PEF was studied by mass spectrometry analysis of intermediate products. This study provided a simple method to prepare MOF-based electrocatalyst, which exhibits promising application potential for treatment wastewater.

Abstract
The overuse of pefloxacin (PEF) leaves residues in foods. Therefore, the development of robust analytical techniques for the selective detection of PEF is of great importance. In this study, a highly stable electrochemical sensing platform has been constructed, using molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-coated gold nanoparticle/black phosphorus nanocomposites (BPNS-AuNPs), for the selective detection of PEF. BPNS-AuNPs significantly enhance the black phosphorus (BP) stability and electrochemical activity and offer a larger surface area to accommodate more imprinted sites for selective PEF binding. MIP/BPNS-AuNPs exhibit a broad linear detection range (0.005-10 μM), low detection limit (0.80 nM), and high sensitivity (3.199 μA μM-1). The MIP/BPNS-AuNPs show a high binding affinity for PEF, even in the presence of structural analogs, and maintain stable voltammetric signals for at least 35 d. The MIP sensor exhibits consistent high sensitivity in the detection of PEF in real milk and orange juice samples.

Abstract
A colorimetric sensing method for salicylic acid (SA) was developed by designing and fabricating bimetallic oxide nanozymes. Firstly, by calcinating MIL-100(Fe)@PMo12 (MOFs@POMs) at different temperature, Fe2(MoO4)3-Ts (T = 400℃, 500℃, 600℃, 700℃) nanoparticles (NPs) were successfully prepared. Secondly, by evaluating the peroxidase-like activities, Fe2(MoO4)3-600 NPs shows the best peroxidase-like activity attributed to the Fenton-like effect and the synergistic coupling interaction between Mo and Fe. Finally, based on the specific complexation between SA and Fe3+, a sensitive colorimetric sensor for SA was established, which exhibits superior selectivity and interference with a detection limit of 0.11 μM and a linear range of 10 to 100 μM, the lowest LOD for SA to date, to the best of our knowledge.

Abstract
Bio-nanocomposites have attracted increasing research attention because they are able to integrate bio- and nano-related functions, and subsequently demonstrate potentially beneficial environmental applications. Here, a functional bionanomaterial based on Burkholderia cepacian (FZ) immobilized on GO/ZIF-8 was developed and used to remove malachite green (MG), with functions based on both biodegradation and adsorption. XRD and FTIR results showed that in situ production of GO/ZIF-8 by combining Zn2+ in ZIF-8 with the carboxyl group on the GO surface, led to FZ immobilized in GO/ZIF-8 through covalent bonding. Zeta analysis showed that the surface of FZ and GO/ZIF-8 had different charges under pH = 9.12, suggesting immobilization also occurred via electrostatic action. BET results confirmed that the specific surface area of GO/ZIF-8 was much larger than that of GO and ZIF-8, but the reduced specific surface area of FZ@GO/ZIF-8 could be due to FZ loading on its surface. The efficiency of FZ@GO/ZIF-8 in the removal of MG reached 99% and furthermore retained good stability after five cycles. The efficiency in removing multiple ions in river water reached more than 80%, which is evidence strongly suggesting that FZ@GO/ZIF-8 is an environmental bionanomaterial with effective application potential.

Abstract
In this study, the removal of Crocein Orange G dye (COG) from aqueous solution was investigated using an innovative green catalyst to overcome problems with chemical techniques. Clay bentonite El Hamma (HB)-supported nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI) was used as a heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst for the oxidation of harmful COG. Palm waste extract was herein used as a reducing and capping agent to synthesize NZVI, and HB clay was employed, which was obtained from the El Hamma bentonite deposit in the Gabes province of Tunisia. HB and HB-NZVI were characterized by various techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller (BET), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and zeta potential. Under optimal conditions, total degradation of COG was attained within 180 min. Kinetic studies showed that the dye degradation rate followed well the pseudo-second-order model. The apparent activation energy was 33.11 kJ/mol, which is typical of a physically controlled reaction. The degradation pathways and mineralization study revealed that the adsorption-Fenton-like reaction was the principal mechanism that demonstrated 100% degradation efficiency of COG even after three successive runs. Obtained results suggest that HB-NZVI is an affective heterogeneous catalyst for the degradation of COG by H2O2 and may constitute a sustainable green catalyst for azoic dye removal from industrial wastewaters.

Abstract
Development of binary MOF-on-MOF heterostructures is a research hotspot in MOFs chemistry due to the advantages elicited by a closely connected interface, which may endow more abundant functionality and even broader applications in interface chemistry. A MOF-on-MOF heterostructure was constructed by in situ growth of MIL-88B on the outer surface of UiO-66. The resultant MIL-88B@UiO-66 produced had an interesting flower-like morphology composed of MIL-88B (petal) on tetrahedral UiO-66 (core). The MIL-88B@UiO-66 heterostructure showed adsorption and Fenton-like oxidation abilities, with distinctly improved structural stability in aqueous solution compared with that of single MIL-88B. Methylene blue (MB) was selected as the target molecule to evaluate the adsorption and Fenton-like oxidation activities. The efficiency of total removal of MB was studied systematically under various operating conditions and the influencing factors were optimized. The kinetics of adsorption and catalytic oxidation were simulated to explore the interactions between MB and MIL-88B@UiO-66. The mechanisms of enhanced adsorption and Fenton-like oxidation were suggested. The cyclic removal performance and structural stability of MIL-88B@UiO-66 were also determined.

Abstract
The degradation of toxic chemicals, antibiotics and other residues in organic wastewater has attracted much attention. Among various degradation technologies, hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) reactors have the advantage of being simple to operate. Through the combination of HC and other oxidants, the removal efficiency and energy efficiency of organic matter can be greatly improved, and the consumption of chemicals and the processing costs can be reduced. In this work, HC technology combined with oxidants was used to degrade pefloxacin (PEF), and the effect of different operating conditions on PEF degradation was investigated. The results indicated that the removal efficiency of PEF treated with HC alone was 84.9% under the optimal HC conditions of pH 3.3 and 120 min, which is much higher than that (35.5%) of pH 5.3. When co-treating the PEF solution with HC and H2O2 at 0.3 MPa and pH 5.3, the optimal molar ratio of PEF to H2O2 was 1:5, the highest PEF removal efficiency was 69.7%, and the synergy index (SI) was 4.4. When combining HC with O3, the PEF removal efficiency gradually elevated with increasing ozone addition. When the addition amount of ozone was 0.675 g/h, the removal efficiency of PEF was the highest, which was 91.5% after treatment of 20 min. The intermediate products in the reaction process were analyzed based on UV-Vis spectroscopy and LC-MS, and the mechanism and reaction pathways of PEF were proposed.

Abstract
Colorimetric or fluorescent biosensors based on mimic enzymes have come into the spotlight in virtue of their visual detection. In traditional visual sensors, fluorescent-changing or color-changing substances should be introduced for the catalytic reaction with mimic enzymes. Herein, a mimic enzyme (Au@Fe-MIL-88B) with self-triggered fluorescent property was prepared. By incorporating Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) in Fe-MIL-88B, a higher peroxidase activity of Au@Fe-MIL-88B was monitored due to the synergistic effect between Au NPs and Fe-MIL-88B. Besides, Au NPs can change the valence of Fe ion in metal organic framework (MOF), thus lower background fluorescence was discovered, but the addition of H2O2 can trigger the self-fluorescence of Au@Fe-MIL-88B. By using Au@Fe-MIL-88B as a label to anchor secondary antibody, a competitive immunosensor based on fluorescence and photoelectrochemistry was constructed for the immunoassay of rosiglitazone (RSG), a kind of hypoglycemic drug. Finally, a portable instrument was homemade for the on-site and convenient detection of RSG in functional tea. This self-triggered fluorescent MOF may provide a possible route to design biosensors for the detection of hazardous materials.

Abstract
The treatment of wastewater containing organic pollutants has become a serious issue, and one of the advanced oxidation process, Fenton oxidation is recognized as an ideal way owing to its universality and environmental friendliness, thus efficient and economic catalysts are in great demand. Herein by incorporating Fe2+ containing compound as ligand, a tremella-like iron containing metal-organic framework (TFMOF) was synthesized with zirconium acetate and 1,1'-ferrocene-dicarboxylic acid though a facile solvothermal method. The TFMOF combined the merits of both ferrocene moiety with well dispersed Fe2+ sites in the molecular level and MOF films with large surface areas and exposed sites. And the morphology and crystal structure of TFMOF were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Moreover, employed as an effective catalyst in Fenton oxidation, over 99%, 95% and 97% of rhodamine B, methyl orange and reactive black V were rapidly degraded without the assistance of additional irradiation, and degradation conditions like pH, H2O2 and initial pollutant concentrations as well as the reaction kinetic was investigated, indicating the hydroxyl radical generated in the presence of TFMOF and H2O2 was able to degrade the pollutants into non-toxic molecular. Besides, the catalytic activity of TFMOF maintained well after three cycles. The good activity and universality of TFMOF make it a promising catalyst for the treatment of wastewater.

Abstract
In this paper, one kind of acid-alkali modified sludge-based biochar (ASBC) was synthesized, characterized, and employed as adsorbent for the removal of pefloxacin. The characterization results showed that the specific surface area (SSA) of ASBC (53.381 m2/g) was significantly higher than that of SBC (24.411 m2/g). ASBC had a rougher surface, larger particle distribution, lower zero point charge, and richer functional groups (e.g., C-O and O-H) than SBC. The adsorption capacity of ASBC was 1.82 times than that of SBC. After 8 adsorption cycles in reuse experiment, the adsorption capacity of ASBC for pefloxacin still reached 144.08 mg/L, indicating that ASBC has good reusability. Static experiments showed that the optimal pH value was 6.0 in the adsorption of pefloxacin on SBC and ASBC. The result of adsorption kinetics indicated that the pseudo-second-order model could describe well the adsorption process. The Freundlich model was better than the Langmuir model to describe the adsorption of pefloxacin by ASBC, indicating that the adsorption process was mainly multilayer adsorption. Thermodynamic result showed that the adsorption of pefloxacin by ASBC was spontaneous and endothermic. The removal mechanism of pefloxacin by ASBC is mainly the substitution reaction and π-π EDA interaction. In summary, acid-alkali modified biochar is an effective adsorbent for pefloxacin in aqueous solution, and has great application prospects.

Abstract
The new RP-HPLC-DAD method for the determination of ciprofloxacin and pefloxacin, next to their degradation products after the oxidation reaction with 4,4′-azobis(4-cyanopentanoic acid) (ACVA) was developed. The method was validated according to the guidelines of the International Council for Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) and meets the acceptance criteria. The experimental data indicate that the course of the oxidation process depends on the type of fluoroquinolone (FQ), the incubation time and temperature. The performed kinetic evaluation allowed us to state that the oxidation of FQs proceeds according to the second-order kinetics. The degradation products of the FQs were identified using the UHPLC-MS/MS method and their structures were proposed. The results obtained by the TLC-direct bioautography technique allowed us to state that the main ciprofloxacin and pefloxacin oxidation products probably retained antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli.

Abstract
The degradation of emerging contaminant coumarin was separately investigated in anodic, electro-Fenton and subcritical water oxidation processes. With respect to the anodic and electro-Fenton oxidation, the influence of constant current, treatment time and initial concentration of coumarin was studied. Regarding subcritical water oxidation, the effect of the oxidant concentration, temperature, treatment time and initial coumarin concentration was investigated. In anodic and electro-Fenton oxidation processes, coumarin degradation proceeded in a similar manner, achieving 99% degradation, after 180 min at a constant current of 200 mA. In both set-ups, further increasing the applied current lowered the degradation efficiency due to the formation of by-products and the increasing occurrence of side-reactions. The highest degradation of 88% was achieved in subcritical conditions, specifically at 200 °C, using 150 mM H2O2 and after 37.5 min of treatment. Under subcritical conditions, temperature was the most prominent parameter, followed by the H2O2 concentration. Under all methodologies, increasing treatment time had a small positive effect on coumarin degradation, indicating that time is not the most influential parameter. A comparison of the three methodologies in terms of performance as well as energy consumption and simplicity of operation highlighted the advantages of subcritical water oxidation.

Abstract
Few researches have focused on the role of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) in Fenton-like process for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) removal. In this study, the naphthalene (NAP) degradation tests in ultrapure water showed that nZVI addition could enhance NAP degradation from 79.7% to 99.0% in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)/Fe (II)/nZVI/NAP system at the molar ratio of 10/5/3/1, showing the excellent role of nZVI in promoting NAP removal. Multiple linear regression analysis found that the correlation coefficient between H2O2 consumption and NAP degradation was converted from -9.17 to 0.48 with nZVI and 1-mM H2O2, indicating that nZVI could decompose H2O2 more beneficially for NAP degradation. Multiple Fe (II)-dosing and iron leaching tests revealed that nZVI could gently liberate Fe (II) and promote Fe (II)/Fe (III) redox cycle to enhance the NAP degradation. When the H2O2/Fe (II)/nZVI/NAP molar ratios of 10/5/3/1 and 50/25/15/1 were applied in the simulated NAP contaminated actual groundwater and soil slurry, respectively, 75.0% and 82.9% of NAP removals were achieved. Based on the major degradation intermediates detected by GC/MS, such as 1,4-naphthalenedione, cinnamaldehyde, and o-phthalaldehyde, three possible NAP degradation pathways were proposed. This study provided the applicable potential of nZVI in Fenton process for PAHs contaminated groundwater and soil remediation. PRACTITIONER POINTS: nZVI enhanced the NAP degradation in Fenton-like process. Three schemes of NAP degradation pathway were proposed. nZVI performed well in the remediation of the simulated NAP contamination.

Amino-functionalized MIL-88B as heterogeneous photo-Fenton catalysts for enhancing tris-(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCPP) degradation: Dual excitation pathways accelerate the conversion of Fe III to Fe II under visible light irradiation. JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2022; 425:127782. Abstract
In this work, the amino-functionalized metal-organic frameworks (MIL-88B-NH2) was synthesized, characterized and used as heterogeneous photo-Fenton catalyst for tris-(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCPP) degradation. The photo-Fenton activity of MIL-88B-NH2 was investigated on the basis of influence factors, such as initial pH and TCPP concentration, and coexisting impurities. The results revealed that MIL-88B-NH2+H2O2+Vis system exhibited a satisfactory degradation efficiency of TCPP (almost 100%) within 60 min accompanied by a good reusability. Noticeably, the degradation kinetics constant of TCPP by MIL-88B-NH2+H2O2+Vis system was 0.086 min-1, which was visibly higher than that of MIL-88B+H2O2+Vis system (0.021 min-1) since the addition of amino-functionalized organic linker inhibiting the recombination rate of the photo-generated electron-hole pairs and improving the visible light response. Combined with the characterization, the conversion of FeIII to FeII could be accelerated by the photo-generated electron from the excitation of Fe-O clusters and NH2 functionalities, which strengthened the decomposition of H2O2 and formed plenty •OH. Simultaneously, six steady products were validated and potential degradation pathways of TCPP were proposed. It was anticipated that MIL-88B-NH2 could be considered as a desirable and alternative candidate in the application of heterogeneous photo-Fenton reaction to control the environmental risks caused by organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs).

Enhanced effect of pyrite on the removal of metronidazole by zero valent iron. J Colloid Interface Sci 2021; 600:775-783. Abstract
The abuse and improper disposal of antibiotics including metronidazole (MNZ) result in serious contamination in aquatic environments. In this study, pyrite, which was not reactive for MNZ removal, was simply mixed with zero valent iron (ZVI) to efficiently remove MNZ in anaerobic aqueous solutions. A dual ZVI/pyrite system consisting of ZVI (1.0 g/L) and pyrite (4.0 g/L) removed MNZ completely in 360 min within a broad pH0 range (5.0-9.0), and it still maintained a high removal efficiency (~80%) even at a high pH0 of 10.0. By contrast, single ZVI (1.0 g/L) showed much lower efficiency (4.8%-22.0%) within the same pH0 range (5.0-10.0). On investigating the mechanism of MNZ removal, the cooperation between ZVI and pyrite enhanced the surface corrosion of ZVI and facilitated the redox cycle of Fe(III)/Fe(II) to generate more sorbed Fe(II), which was a dominant reactive species for MNZ removal. Pyrite also activated the ZVI surface to form FeS@Fe in situ, accelerating the electron transfer from Fe0 core to the surface-enriched MNZ, and stimulated the formation of green rust sulfate on the ZVI surface to further promote MNZ removal. LC-MS analysis confirmed ZVI/pyrite reductively transformed MNZ into readily biodegradable products by denitration and cleavage of hydroxyethyl.

Abstract
The traditional heterogeneous photo-Fenton reaction was mainly restricted by the fewer surface-active sites, low Fe3+/Fe2+ transformation and H2O2 activation efficiency of catalyst. This work designed and fabricated the efficient photo-Fenton Schottky catalysts via a facile electrostatic self-assembly of metallic Fe2N nanoparticles scattering on the surface of red g-C3N4 (ultrathin porous oxygen-doped 2D g-C3N4 nanosheets). The porous morphology and exceptional electrical structure of red g-C3N4 endowed more active sites and facilitated the photoexcited charge separation. Benefitting from the Schottky effect and unique dimensional coupling structure, the strong visible light absorption and fast spatial charge transfer were realized in the Schottky junction system. More strikingly, Fe2N as an efficient co-catalyst was in favor of the trap and export of e-, leading to the Fe3+/Fe2+ transformation and H2O2 activation during the photo-Fenton process. Accordingly, the as-prepared catalysts revealed outstanding activity in photo-Fenton like degradation of tetracycline (TC) although under 5 W white LED light irradiation. Furthermore, the reasonable degradation pathway of TC and corresponding toxicity of the intermediates, as well as the photo-Fenton catalytic mechanism were interpreted and discussed in detail. This study would be a great aid in the development of various Schottky catalysts for heterogeneous photo-Fenton-based environmental remediation systems.

Abstract
Ampicillin and nitrofurantoin, as broad-spectrum antibiotics, are widely used in the prevention of animal diseases and to ensure livestock growth. Large amounts of antibiotic residues exist in animal-derived foods, affecting food quality and safety, causing adverse side effects, such as allergic and toxic reactions, and increasing bacterial resistance. A sensitive surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor is provided to detect low-concentration antibiotics (ampicillin and nitrofurantoin). The sensor is based on an Au nanoparticles/graphene oxide hybrid nanocomposite prepared by an in situ reduction method. The detection limits of ampicillin and nitrofurantoin are as low as 0.01 ng mL-1 and 5 ng mL-1, respectively. The relative spectral intensity of the nitrofurantoin characteristic peak has a good linear relationship with the concentration of nitrofurantoin in the range of 500 ng mL-1 and 5 ng mL-1 (R2 = 0.99235). The structure also allows multi-sample measurement for a variety of antibiotics at the same time. The SERS sensor is easy to prepare, with high uniformity and reproducibility, and the sample does not require complex pretreatment and preparation. Sensitive and quantitative detection of antibiotics by the SERS sensor is of great interest in the fields of health care, food preparation, and environmental sampling.

Abstract
In solid tumors, tumor invasion and metastasis account for 90 % of cancer-related deaths. Cell migration is steered by the lamellipodia formed at the leading edge. These lamellipodia can drive the cell body forward by its mechanical deformation regulated by cofilin. Inhibiting cofilin activity can cause significant defects in directional lamellipodia formation and the locomotory capacity of cell invasion, thus contributing to antimetastatic treatment. Herein, a near infrared light (NIR)-controlled nanoscale proton supplier was designed with upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) as a core coated in MIL-88B for interior photoacids loading; this photoacids loading can boost H+ transients in cells, which converts the cofilin to an inactive form. Strikingly, inactive cofilin loses the ability to mediate lamellipodia deformation for cell migration. Additionally, the iron, which serves as a catalyticaly active center in MIL-88B, initiates an enhanced Fenton reaction due to the increased H+ in the tumor, ultimately achieving intensive chemodynamic therapy (CDT). This work provides new insight into H+ transients in cells, which not only regulates cofilin protonation for antimetastatic treatment but also improves chemodynamic therapy.
