Abstract
Till to date, the application of sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride supported transition metal carbide interface for electrochemical sensor fabrication was less explored. In this work, we designed a simple synthesis of molybdenum carbide sphere embedded sulfur doped graphitic carbon nitride (Mo2C/SCN) catalyst for the nanomolar electrochemical sensor application. The synthesized Mo2C/SCN nanocatalyst was systematically characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with elemental mapping. The SEM images show that the porous SCN network adhered uniformly on Mo2C, causing a loss of crystallinity in the diffractogram. The corresponding elemental mapping of Mo2C/SCN shows distinct peaks for carbon (41.47%), nitrogen (32.54%), sulfur (1.37%), and molybdenum (24.62%) with no additional impurity peaks, reflecting the successful synthesis. Later, the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified by Mo2C/SCN nanocatalyst for simultaneous sensing of uric acid (UA) and folic acid (FA). The fabricated Mo2C/SCN/GCE is capable of simultaneous and interference free electrochemical detection of UA and FA in a binary mixture. The limit of detection (LOD) calculated at Mo2C/SCN/GCE for UA and FA was 21.5 nM (0.09 - 47.0 μM) and 14.7 nM (0.09 - 167.25 μM) respectively by differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) technique. The presence of interferons has no significant effect on the sensor's performance, making it suitable for real sample analysis. The present method can be extended to fabricate an electrochemical sensor for various molecules.

Abstract
A novel modification of a paste carbon electrode by Bentonite (Bent) and l-Cysteine (l-Cyst) was carried out for uric acid (UA) and ascorbic acid (AA) detection and quantification. Morphological and compositional characterization of the electrode surface were carried out using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopic analysis (EDS). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques were used to analyze UA and AA. The obtained sensor shows a good stability, sensibility, selectivity, and regeneration ability. Accordingly, the limit of detection (LOD) is found to be 0.031 μm and 9.6 μm for UA and AA, respectively. A good linearity in the range of 0.1 to 100 μm for UA and 10 to 1000 μm for AA was obtained. The peak-to-peak separation of UA-AA (ΔEUA-AA ) was determined to be 330 mV. In addition, the sensor is applied successfully to monitor UA and AA in serum samples.

Abstract
A fully automatic millifluidic sensing platform coupling in-line nonsupported microelectromembrane extraction (μ-EME) with electrochemical detection (ECD) is herein proposed for the first time. Exploiting the features of the second generation of flow analysis, termed sequential injection (SI), the smart integration of SI and μ-EME-ECD enables (i) the repeatable formation of microvolumes of phases for the extraction step in a membrane-less (nonsupported) arrangement, (ii) diverting the acceptor plug to the ECD sensing device, (iii) in-line pH adjustment before the detection step, and (iv) washing of the platform for efficient removal of remnants of wetting film solvent, all entirely unsupervised. The real-life applicability of the miniaturized sensing system is studied for in-line sample cleanup and ECD of diclofenac as a model analyte after μ-EME of urine as a complex biological sample. A comprehensive study of the merits and the limitations of μ-EME solvents on ECD is presented. Under the optimal experimental conditions using 14 μL of unprocessed urine as the donor, 14 μL of 1-nonanol as the organic phase, and 14 μL of 25 mM NaOH as the acceptor in a 2.4 mm ID PTFE tubing, an extraction voltage of 250 V, and an extraction time of 10 min, an absolute (mass) extraction recovery of 48% of diclofenac in urine is obtained. The proposed flow-through system is proven to efficiently remove the interfering effect of predominantly occurring organic species in human urine on ECD with RSD% less than 8.6%.

Abstract
Hypercrosslinked pyrrole was synthesized via the Friedel-Crafts reaction and then carbonized to obtain urchin-like nitrogen-doped carbon (UNC). Ultrasmall iron oxide nanoparticles were then supported on UNC, and the composite was used to prepare an electrochemical sensor for detecting uric acid (UA) in human urine. FexOy/UNC was characterized and analyzed via scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with FexOy/UNC was used as an electrochemical sensor to effectively identify UA. The electrochemical behavior of the FexOy/UNC-based UA sensor was studied using differential pulse stripping voltammetry, and the optimal conditions were determined by changing the amount of FexOy/UNC, pH of the buffer solution, deposition potential, and deposition time. Under optimal conditions, the FexOy/UNC-based electrochemical sensor detected UA in the range of 2-200 μM, where the limit of detection (LOD) for UA was 0.29 μM. Anti-interference experiments were performed, and the sensor was applied to the actual analysis of human urine samples. Urea, glucose, ascorbic acid, and many cations and anions present at 100-fold concentrations relative to UA did not strongly interfere with the response of the sensor to UA. The FexOy/UNC electrochemical sensor has high sensitivity and selectivity for uric acid in human urine samples and can be used for actual clinical testing of UA in urine.

Abstract
Folic acid (FA) is the synthetic surrogate of the essential B vitamin folate, alternatively named folacin, pteroylglutamic acid or vitamin B9. FA is an electroactive compound that helps our body to create and keep our cells healthy: it acts as the main character in a variety of synthetic biological reactions such as the synthesis of purines, pyrimidine (thus being indirectly implied in DNA synthesis), fixing and methylation of DNA. Therefore, physiological folate deficiency may be responsible for severe degenerative conditions, including neural tube defects in developing embryos and megaloblastic anaemia at any age. Moreover, being a water-soluble molecule, it is constantly lost and has to be reintegrated daily; for this reason, FA supplements and food fortification are, nowadays, extremely diffused and well-established practices. Consequently, accurate, reliable and precise analytical techniques are needed to exactly determine FA concentration in various media. Thus, the aim of this review is to report on research papers of the past 5 years (2016-2020) dealing with rapid and low-cost electrochemical determination of FA in food or biological fluid samples.

Abstract
Pure, mixed and doped metal oxides (MOX) have attracted great interest for the development of electrical and electrochemical sensors since they are cheaper, faster, easier to operate and capable of online analysis and real-time identification. This review focuses on highly sensitive chemoresistive type sensors based on doped-SnO2, RhO, ZnO-Ca, Smx-CoFe2−xO4 semiconductors used to detect toxic gases (H2, CO, NO2) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) (e.g., acetone, ethanol) in monitoring of gaseous markers in the breath of patients with specific pathologies and for environmental pollution control. Interesting results about the monitoring of biochemical substances as dopamine, epinephrine, serotonin and glucose have been also reported using electrochemical sensors based on hybrid MOX nanocomposite modified glassy carbon and screen-printed carbon electrodes. The fundamental sensing mechanisms and commercial limitations of the MOX-based electrical and electrochemical sensors are discussed providing research directions to bridge the existing gap between new sensing concepts and real-world analytical applications.

Abstract
Most biofluids contain a wide variety of biochemical components that are closely related to human health. Analyzing biofluids, such as sweat and tears, may deepen our understanding in pathophysiologic conditions associated with human body, while providing a variety of useful information for the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and disease. Emerging classes of micro/nanostructured bioelectronic devices for biofluid detection represent a recent breakthrough development of critical importance in this context, including traditional biosensors (TBS) and micro/nanostructured biosensors (MNBS). Related biosensors are not restricted to flexible and wearable devices; solid devices are also involved here. This article is a timely overview of recent technical advances in this field, with an emphasis on the new insights of constituent materials, design architectures and detection methods of MNBS that support the necessary levels of biocompatibility, device functionality, and stable operation for component analysis. An additional section discusses and analyzes the existing challenges, possible solutions and future development of MNBS for detecting biofluids.

The preparation and characterization of a hybrid composite, based on carbon cloth (CC) matrix functionalized with two-dimensional (2D) MoS2 flakes and MoO3, and its use for developing an electrochemical sensor for the determination of riboflavin (RF) is here reported. The 2D-MoS2-MoO3CC composite was prepared by depositing 2D-MoS2 nanosheets, obtained by liquid phase exfoliation (LPE), on the surface of a carbon cloth fiber network, previously functionalized with a layer of molybdenum oxide (α-MoO3) by radio-frequency magnetron reactive sputtering technique. The 2D-MoS2-MoO3CC composite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX), and Raman spectroscopy. An electrochemical sensor has been then fabricated by fixing a slice of the 2D-MoS2-MoO3CC composite on the working electrode of a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE). The 2D-MoS2-MoO3-CC/SPCE sensor display good electrochemical characteristics which have been exploited, for the first time, in the electroanalytical determination of riboflavin (RF). The sensitivity to RF, equal to 0.67 µA mM-1 in the linear range from 2 to 40 µM, and a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.5 µM at S/N = 3, demonstrate the promising characteristics of the proposed 2D-MoS2-MoO3-CC/SPCE electrochemical sensor for the determination of riboflavin.

Abstract
Copper-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles (NPs) CuxZn1-xO (x = 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, and 0.04) were synthesized via a sol-gel process and used as an active electrode material to fabricate a non-enzymatic electrochemical sensor for the detection of glucose. Their structure, composition, and chemical properties were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopies, and zeta potential measurements. The electrochemical characterization of the sensors was studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Cu doping was shown to improve the electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of glucose, which resulted from the accelerated electron transfer and greatly improved electrochemical conductivity. The experimental conditions for the detection of glucose were optimized: a linear dependence between the glucose concentration and current intensity was established in the range from 1 nM to 100 μM with a limit of detection of 0.7 nM. The proposed sensor exhibited high selectivity for glucose in the presence of various interfering species. The developed sensor was also successfully tested for the detection of glucose in human serum samples.

Abstract
In this study, we report a facile and effective production process of palladium nanoparticles supported on polypyrrole/reduced graphene oxide (rGO/Pd@PPy NPs). A novel electrochemical sensor was fabricated by incorporation of the prepared NPs onto glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the simultaneous detection of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA). The electrodes modified with rGO/Pd@PPy NPs were well decorated on the GCE and exhibited superior catalytic activity and conductivity for the detection of these molecules with higher current and oxidation peak intensities. Simultaneous detection of these molecules was achieved due to the high selectivity and sensitivity of rGO/Pd@PPy NPs. For each biomolecule, well-separated voltammetric peaks were obtained at the modified electrode in cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) measurements. Additionally, the detection of these molecules was performed in blood serum samples with satisfying results. The detection limits and calibration curves for AA, DA, and UA were found to be 4.9 × 10-8, 5.6 × 10-8, 4.7 × 10-8 M (S/N = 3) and ranging from 1 × 10-3 to 1.5 × 10-2 M (in 0.1 M PBS, pH 3.0), respectively. Hereby, the fabricated rGO/Pd@PPy NPs can be used with high reproducibility, selectivity, and catalytic activity for the development of electrochemical applications for the simultaneous detection of these biomolecules.

Abstract
Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) provides a new strategy for preparing fluorescent sensors in aggregated state. In this paper, a series of crown ether-bridged bis-tetraphenylethylene compounds were synthesized in 78-84% yield by a simple procedure. The molecules exhibited excellent AIE properties in THF/H2O solutions and solid films. The investigation on sensing abilities for various biomolecules and metal ions suggested that Bis-TPE-1 possessed obvious response to folic acid, with fluorescence enhancement and blue shift of maximum emission wavelength from 380 nm to 365 nm. The detection limit for folic acid was 6.36 × 10-7 M, and the sensor's selectivity for folic acid was little interfered by the other species. The sensor mechanism was studied by FT-IR, 1H NMR, MS spectra and fluorescence Jobs' plot. The selective sensor for folic acid was applied in test paper and the analyses of real samples of mung bean and spinach. The superior bioimaging performance of Bis-TPE-1 for sensing folic acid was confirmed by the live cell imaging experiments, which indicated its good practical application potential for detecting folic acid.

Abstract
Sensing properties of chemical sensors based on ternary hydroxyapatite-graphene-multiwalled carbon nanotube (HA-GN-MWCNT) nanocomposite in the detection of chemical substances representing risk factors for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), have been evaluated. Characterization data of the synthesized composite have shown that the graphene-MWCNT network serves as a matrix to uniformly disperse the hydroxyapatite nanoparticles and provide suitable electrical properties required for developing novel electrochemical and conductometric sensors. A HA-GN-MWCNT composite-modified glassy carbon electrode (HA-GN-MWCNT/GCE) has been fabricated and tested for the simultaneous monitoring of nicotine and caffeine by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV), whereas a HA-GN-MWCNT conductive gas sensor has been tested for the detection of CO2 in ambient air. Reported results suggest that the synergic combination of the chemical properties of HA and electrical/electrochemical characteristics of the mixed graphene-MWCNT network play a prominent role in enhancing the electrochemical and gas sensing behavior of the ternary HA-GN-MWCNT hybrid nanostructure. The high performances of the developed sensors make them suitable for monitoring unhealthy actions (e. g. smoking, drinking coffee) in breastfeeding women and environmental factors (bad air quality), which are associated with an enhanced risk for SIDS.

Abstract
A mandatory step in any sensor fabrication is the introduction of analyte-specific recognition elements to the transducer surface. In this study, the possibility to anchor β-cyclodextrin-modified dopamine to a reduced graphene oxide based electrochemical transducer for the sensitive and selective sensing of folic acid is demonstrated. The sensor displays good electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of folic acid. The strong affinity of the surface-confined β-cyclodextrin for folic acid, together with favorable electron transfer characteristics, resulted in a sensor with a detection limit of 1 nM for folic acid and a linear response up to 10 μM. Testing of the sensor on serum samples from healthy individuals and patients diagnosed with folic acid deficiency validated the sensing capability. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
Herein, we propose a facile chemical reduction method to synthesize the molybdenum carbide (Mo2C) nanoparticles and its application for the electrochemical detection of folic acid (FA) through imprinting technique. Raman scattering, photoelectron spectroscopy and electron microscopy techniques were employed to study the properties of Mo2C nanoparticles. FA imprinting was carried out in the presence of pyrrole monomer over Mo2C modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The proposed sensor showed the detection behavior for wide range of FA concentrations from 0.01 μM to 120 μM with an excellent LOD value of 4 nM and good selectivity toward FA as compared to other co-existing species in real samples. The fabricated MIP-Mo2C/GCE sensors were able to be replicated with ∼1.9% RSD, and their reproduced sensor offered good repeatability (RSD; 1.6%) and stability.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA) and Folic acid (FA) are co-existing compounds in biological fluids that plays a vital role in central nervous system and human metabolism. DA is an important neurotransmitter in the brain's neural circuits and its diminution often results in Parkinson's disease. Folate is another form of folic acid, which is known as one of the B vitamins. It is utilized as an additive by women during pregnancy in order to prevent the neural tube defects. The present study reports on the fabrication of electrochemical sensor for the simultaneous determination of DA and FA using poly(o-methoxyaniline)-gold (POMA-Au) nanocomposite. The POMA-Au nanocomposite was prepared via insitu chemical oxidative polymerization method and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The suitability of POMA-Au nanocomposite as a modifier for the electrocatalytic detection of DA and FA in aqueous solution was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and chronoamperometry (CA) techniques. The fabricated POMA-Au/GCE sensor exhibited sharp and intense peaks towards the electro-oxidation of DA and FA as compared to bare electrode. The sensor exhibited the promising electron mediating behavior with well separated oxidation peaks with a potential difference of about 350.0 mV. The linear calibration plots of DA and FA were obtained from 10.0 to 300.0 μM and 0.5 to 900.0 μM with the detection limits of 0.062 μM and 0.090 μM, respectively. The reliability of this sensor was verified to be precise as well as sensitive for the determination of DA and FA in pharmaceutical samples and human urine samples.

Abstract
Herein, (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane functionalized cerium (IV) oxide (CeO2-NH2) supported Pd nanoparticles were synthesized. The nanocomposites were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The Pd@CeO2-NH2 showed better electrocatalytic response to the reduction of H2O2 than CeO2-NH2. The fabricated sensor exhibited two linear responses to the reduction of H2O2. The first one was from 0.001 to 3.276 mM with 0.47 μM of a limit of detection (LOD) (S/N = 3) and excellent sensitivity of 440.72 μA mM-1 cm-2 and the second one was from 3.276 to 17.500 mM with the sensitivity of 852.65 μA mM-1 cm-2 in the optimum conductions. Also, the sensor exhibited 91% of electrocatalytic activity toward H2O2 after having been used for 30 days and the reproducibility was also satisfactory. The sensor response to H2O2 was not affected by ascorbic acid, fructose, glycine, dopamine, arginine, mannose, glucose, uric acid, Mg+2, Ca+2, and phenylalanine at the studied potential. Also, the fabricated sensor was used to determine H2O2 in milk samples. The results show that the constructed sensor can be a promising devise for the determination of H2O2 in real samples.
