Abstract
BACKGROUND Natural bone grafts are the highly preferred materials for restoring the lost bone, while being constrained of donor availability and risk of disease transmission. As a result, tissue engineering is emerging as an efficacious and competitive technique for bone repair. Bone tissue engineering (TE) scaffolds to support bone regeneration and devoid of aforesaid limitations are being vastly explored and among these the avian eggshell membrane has drawn attention for TE owing to its low immunogenicity, similarity with the extracellular matrix, and easy availability. METHODOLOGY AND RESULTS In this study, the development of bone ingrowth support system from avian eggshell membrane derived collagen hydrolysates (Col-h) is reported. The hydrolysate, cross-linked with glutaraldehyde, was developed into hydrogels with poly-(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) by freeze-thawing and further characterized with ATR-FTIR, XRD, FESEM. The biodegradability, swelling, mechanical, anti-microbial, and biocompatibility evaluation were performed further for the suitability in bone regeneration. The presence of amide I, amide III, and -OH functional groups at 1639 cm- 1,1264 cm- 1, and 3308 cm- 1 respectively and broad peak between 16°-21° (2θ) in XRD data reinstated the composition and form. CONCLUSIONS The maximum ratio of Col-h/PVA that produced well defined hydrogels was 50:50. Though all the hydrogel matrices alluded towards their competitive attributes and applicability towards restorative bone repair, the hydrogel with 40:60 ratios showed better mechanical strength and cell proliferation than its counterparts. The prominent E. coli growth inhibition by the hydrogel matrices was also observed, along with excellent biocompatibility with MG-63 osteoblasts. The findings indicate strongly the promising application of avian eggshell-derived Col-h in supporting bone regeneration.

Abstract
Chronic non-healing cutaneous wounds represent a major burden to patients and healthcare providers worldwide, emphasising the continued unmet need for credible and efficacious therapeutic approaches for wound healing. We have recently shown the potential for collagen peptides to promote proliferation and migration during cutaneous wound healing. In the present study, we demonstrate that the application of porcine-derived collagen peptides significantly increases keratinocyte and dermal fibroblast expression of integrin α2β1 and activation of an extracellular signal-related kinase (ERK)-focal adhesion kinase (FAK) signalling cascade during wound closure in vitro. SiRNA-mediated knockdown of integrin β1 impaired porcine-derived collagen peptide-induced wound closure and activation of ERK-FAK signalling in keratinocytes but did not impair ERK or FAK signalling in dermal fibroblasts, implying the activation of differing downstream signalling pathways. Studies in ex vivo human 3D skin equivalents subjected to punch biopsy-induced wounding confirmed the ability of porcine-derived collagen peptides to promote wound closure by enhancing re-epithelialisation. Collectively, these data highlight the translational and clinical potential for porcine-derived collagen peptides as a viable therapeutic approach to promote re-epithelialisation of superficial cutaneous wounds.

Abstract
This study aimed to rapidly and precisely discover novel umami peptides from porcine type I collagen using virtual screening, sensory evaluation and molecular docking simulation. Porcine type I collagen was hydrolyzed in silico and six umami peptide candidates (CN, SM, CRD, GESMTDGF, MS, DGC) were shortlisted via umami taste, bioactivity, toxicity, allergenicity, solubility and stability predictions. The sensory evaluation confirmed that these peptides exhibited umami taste, with CRD, GESMTDGF and DGC displaying higher umami intensity and significant umami-enhancing effects in 0.35% sodium glutamate solution. Molecular docking predicted that Ser 276/384/385 of T1R1 and Asn68, Val277, Thr305, Ser306, Leu385 of T1R3 may also play critical roles in binding umami peptides. The umami taste of peptides may be perceived mainly through the formation of hydrogen bonds with the hydrophilic amino acids of T1R1/T1R3. This work provided a robust procedure and guidance to develop novel umami peptides from food byproducts.

Abstract
In recent years, as a functional potential pseudocereal, chia seed (Salvia hispanica L.) has been of great interest for its comprehensive nutritional profile and attractive qualities after ingestion. It is reported that a reasonable dietary supplementation of chia seed (CS) contributes to the prevention and treatment of acute and chronic diseases (inflammation, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, kidney stone, etc.). CS contains a variety of bioactive macromolecular substances, such as oil, protein and gum, which manifest distinguished health-promoting activities in both in vivo and in vitro research studies. This article provides a comprehensive compendium on the functional importance of CS, in the context of biological activities and mechanism of actions of CS. Specifically, CS and its components alleviate inflammation and regulate glucose and fatty acid metabolism by regulating key influencing factors in the adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), peroxisome-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) pathways and the insulin receptor substrate (IRS)-mediated insulin signaling pathway. In the meantime, predictions of metabolic pathways of CS peptides based on the known tracks of newly researched active peptides were proposed, with the aim of emphasizing the enormous research space of CS peptides compared to other functional active peptides.

Abstract
Assisted reproductive technologies are key to solving the problems of aging and organ defects. Collagen is compatible with living tissues and has many different chemical properties; it has great potential for use in reproductive medicine and the engineering of reproductive tissues. It is a natural substance that has been used a lot in science and medicine. Collagen is a substance that can be obtained from many different animals. It can be made naturally or created using scientific methods. Using pure collagen has some drawbacks regarding its physical and chemical characteristics. Because of this, when collagen is processed in various ways, it can better meet the specific needs as a material for repairing tissues. In simpler terms, collagen can be used to help regenerate bones, cartilage, and skin. It can also be used in cardiovascular repair and other areas. There are different ways to process collagen, such as cross-linking it, making it more structured, adding minerals to it, or using it as a carrier for other substances. All of these methods help advance the field of tissue engineering. This review summarizes and discusses the current progress of collagen-based materials for reproductive medicine.

Abstract
This study was designed to prepare a cattle bone-derived collagen peptide-calcium chelate by the ultrasound method (CP-Ca-US), and its structure, stability, and bioactivity on MC3T3-E1 cells were characterized. Single-factor experiments optimized the preparation conditions: ultrasound power 90 W, ultrasound time 40 min, CaCl2/peptides ratio 1/2, pH 7. Under these conditions, the calcium-chelating ability reached 39.48 μg mg-1. The result of Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy indicated that carboxyl oxygen and amino nitrogen atoms were chelation sites. Morphological analysis indicated that CP-Ca-US was characterized by a porous surface and large particles. Stability analysis demonstrated that CP-Ca-US was stable in the thermal environment and under intestinal digestion. CP-Ca-US showed more stability in gastric juice than the chelate prepared by the hydrothermal method. Cell experiments indicated that CP-Ca-US increased osteoblast proliferation (proliferation rate 153% at a concentration of 300 μg mL-1) and altered the cell cycle. Significantly, CP-Ca-US enhanced calcium absorption by interacting with calcium-sensing receptors and promoted the mineralization of MC3T3-E1 cells. This study provides the scientific basis for applying the ultrasound method to prepare peptide-calcium chelates and clarifies the positive role of chelates in bone building.

Abstract
Bone metastases are common in malignant tumors and the effect of conventional treatment is limited. How to effectively inhibit tumor bone metastasis and deliver the drug to the bone has become an urgent issue to be solved. While bone targeting drug delivery systems have obvious advantages in the treatment of bone tumors. The research on bone-targeted anti-tumor therapy has made significant progress in recent years. We introduced the related tumor pathways of bone metastases. The tumor microenvironment plays an important role in metastatic bone tumors. We introduce a drug-loading systems based on different environment-responsive nanocomposites for anti-tumor and anti-metastatic research. According to the process of bone metastases and the structure of bone tissue, we summarized the information on bone-targeting molecules. Bisphosphate has become the first choice of bone-targeted drug delivery carrier because of its affinity with hydroxyapatite in bone. Therefore, we sought to summarize the bone-targeting molecule of bisphosphate to identify the modification effect on bone-targeting. And this paper discusses the relationship between bisphosphate bone targeting molecular structure and drug delivery carriers, to provide some new ideas for the research and development of bone-targeting drug delivery carriers. Targeted therapy will make a more outstanding contribution to the treatment of tumors.

Abstract
Casein phosphopeptides (CPPs) are good at calcium-binding and intestinal calcium absorption, but there are few studies on the osteogenic activity of CPPs. In this study, the preparation of casein phosphopeptide calcium chelate (CPP-Ca) was optimized on the basis of previous studies, and its peptide-calcium chelating activity was characterized. Subsequently, the effects of CPP-Ca on the proliferation, differentiation, and mineralization of MC3T3-E1 cells were studied, and the differentiation mechanism of CPP-Ca on MC3T3-E1 cells was further elucidated by RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). The results showed that the calcium chelation rate of CPPs was 23.37%, and the calcium content of CPP-Ca reached 2.64 × 105 mg/kg. The test results of Ultraviolet–Visible absorption spectroscopy (UV) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated that carboxyl oxygen and amino nitrogen atoms of CPPs might be chelated with calcium during the chelation. Compared with the control group, the proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells treated with 250 μg/mL of CPP-Ca increased by 21.65%, 26.43%, and 28.43% at 24, 48, and 72 h, respectively, and the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and mineralized calcium nodules of MC3T3-E1 cells were notably increased by 55% and 72%. RNA-seq results showed that 321 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found in MC3T3-E1 cells treated with CPP-Ca, including 121 upregulated and 200 downregulated genes. Gene ontology (GO) revealed that the DEGs mainly played important roles in the regulation of cellular components. The enrichment of the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes Database (KEGG) pathway indicated that the AMPK, PI3K-Akt, MAPK, and Wnt signaling pathways were involved in the differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells. The results of a quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) showed that compared with the blank control group, the mRNA expressions of Apolipoprotein D (APOD), Osteoglycin (OGN), and Insulin-like growth factor (IGF1) were significantly increased by 2.6, 2.0 and 3.0 times, respectively, while the mRNA levels of NOTUM, WIF1, and LRP4 notably decreased to 2.3, 2.1, and 4.2 times, respectively, which were consistent both in GO functional and KEGG enrichment pathway analysis. This study provided a theoretical basis for CPP-Ca as a nutritional additive in the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis.

Abstract
Endothelial protein C receptor (EPCR), cannabinoid receptor 2 (CBR2), and estrogen receptor α (ERα) play vital roles in osteoblasts proliferation. Also, collagen peptides have osteoblasts proliferation stimulation abilities, and di/tri-peptides could be absorbed by the intestine more easily. This study obtained three di/tripeptides with potential osteoblasts proliferation stimulation abilities of yak bone collagen, namely, MGF, CF, and MF, by in silico screening. Results suggested that these three peptides exhibited good absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) properties. They also had strong affinities with EPCR, CBR2, and ERα, and the total -CDOCKER energy (-CE) values were 150.9469, 113.1835, and 115.3714 kcal/mol, respectively. However, further Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assays indicated that only MGF could significantly (P < 0.05) stimulate osteoblasts proliferation at 0.3 mg/ml. At the same time, the proliferating index (PI) of the osteoblasts treated with MGF increased significantly (P < 0.05), and the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity decreased highly significantly (P < 0.01). In summary, MGF exhibited the potential to be an effective treatment for osteoporosis.

Abstract
Multiple strategies including the use of bioactive peptides and other nutraceuticals are being adopted to maintain bone health. This study provides an improved and deeper understanding of the pharmacological effects that a bioactive peptide IRW (Ile-Arg-Trp) extends on bone health. Our results showed that IRW treatment protects osteoblasts against Ang II induced decline in cell proliferation and restores protein levels of collagen type I alpha 2 chain (COL1A2) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels in MC3T3-E1 cells (p < 0.05). Apart from augmentation of these mineralization factors, the angiotensin II (Ang II) induced apoptotic stress in osteoblasts was mitigated by IRW as well. At the molecular level, IRW abolished the cytochrome-c release via modulation of pro-and anti-apoptotic genes in MC3T3-E1 cells (p < 0.05). Interestingly, IRW also increased cellular levels of cytoprotective local RAAS factors such as MasR, Ang (1−7), ACE2, and AT2R, and lowered the levels of Ang II effector receptor (AT1R). Further, our results indicated a lower content of inflammation and osteoclastogenesis biomarkers such as cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2), nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), and receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL) following IRW treatment in MC3T3-E1 cells (p < 0.05). The use of an antagonist-guided cell study indicated that IRW contributed to the process of cytoprotection and proliferation of osteoblasts via Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) in face of Ang II stress in an AT2R dependent manner. The key findings of our study showed that IRW could potentially have a therapeutic role in the treatment and/or prevention of bone disorders.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION osteoporosis is the most prevalent bone disease and one of the main causes of chronic disability in middle and advanced ages. Conventional pharmacological treatments are still limited, and their prolonged use can cause adverse effects that motivate poor adherence to treatment. Nutritional strategies are traditionally based on supplementing the diet with calcium and vitamin D. Recent studies confirm that the results of this supplementation are significantly improved if it is accompanied by the intake of oral hydrolyzed collagen. OBJECTIVE to evaluate the possible in vitro osteogenic activity of a peptide-mineral complex formed by bovine hydrolyzed collagen and bovine hydroxyapatite (Phoscollagen®, PHC®). METHODS the digestion and absorption of PHC® were simulated using the dynamic gastrointestinal digester of AINIA and Caco-2 cell model, respectively. Primary cultures of human osteoblasts were treated with the resulting fraction of PHC® and changes were evaluated in the proliferation of preosteoblasts and in the mRNA expression of osteogenic biomarkers at different stages of osteoblast maturation: Runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin (OC) and type I collagen (ColA1). RESULTS an increase in preosteoblastic proliferation was observed (p ≤ 0,05). No changes were detected in the biomarkers of osteoblasts with 5 days of differentiation, but were with 14 days, registering an increase in Runx2 (p = 0.0008), ColA1 (p = 0.035), OC (p = 0.027) and ALP (without significance). CONCLUSION these results show that the PHC® peptide-mineral complex stimulates the activity of mature osteoblasts, being capable of promoting bone formation.

Abstract
Collagen, an abundant extracellular matrix protein, has been found to have a lot of pharmaceuticals, medicine, food, and cosmetics applications. Increased knowledge of collagen sources, extraction techniques, structure, and properties in the last decades has helped develop more collagen-based products and tissue engineering biomaterials. Collagen products have been playing an important role in benefiting the health of the human body, especially for aging people. In this paper, the effects of collagen treatment in different clinical studies including skin regeneration, bone defects, sarcopenia, wound healing, dental therapy, gastroesophageal reflux, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis have been reviewed. The collagen treatments were significant in these clinical studies. In addition, the associations between these diseases were discussed. The comorbidity of these diseases might be closely related to collagen deficiency, and collagen treatment might be a good choice when a patient has more than one of these diseases, including the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It concludes that collagen-based medication is useful in treating comorbid diseases and preventing complications.

Abstract
Matrix protein is a kind of secretory protein that regulates the biomineralization of the bivalve shell. In this study, a water-soluble matrix protein (WSMP) from Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigs) shell was isolated, and its structure was analyzed in detail, in addition to its anti-osteoporosis activity in vitro and in vivo. Results showed that WSMP was an acidic protein with an apparent molecular mass of 47 and 79 kDa and contained a glycoprotein structure. In vitro, the reduction of Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) and deoxypyridinoline (DPD) indicated that osteoclast activity was inhibited compared with the model group. Moreover, the increased osteocalcin (OCN) and BMD levels suggested that the high osteoblast activity and bone mineralization was improved. SEM analysis of the femur showed that there were fewer bone pits in experimental groups, which was consistent with the above results. In vivo, WSMP promoted the expression of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and osteogenic differentiation factor BMP-2 in osteoblasts. In addition, the activity of osteoclasts was inhibited by regulating the process of osteoclast differentiation induced by RANKL. Both in vitro and in vivo studies showed that WSMP could promote osteogenesis and inhibit osteoclast absorption, thus demonstrating their potential applications in osteoporosis.

Abstract
Previous studies found that the collagen hydrolysates of fish skin have antiplatelet activity, but this component remained unknown. In this study, eleven peptides were isolated and identified in the absorbates of Alcalase-hydrolysates and Protamex®-hydrolysates of skin collagen of H. Molitrix by reverse-phase C18 column and HPLC-MS/MS. Nine of them contained a Pro-Gly (PG) or Hyp-Gly (OG) sequence and significantly inhibited ADP-induced platelet aggregation in vitro, which suggested that the PG(OG) sequence is the core sequence of collagen peptides with antiplatelet activity. Among them, OGSA has the strongest inhibiting activities against ADP-induced platelet aggregation in vitro (IC50 = 0.63 mM), and OGSA inhibited the thrombus formation in rats at a dose of 200 μM/kg.bw with no risk of bleeding. The molecular docking results implied that the OG-containing peptides might target the P2Y12 receptor and form hydrogen bonds with the key sites Cys97, Ser101, and Lys179. As the sequence PG(OG) is abundant in the collagen amino acid sequence of H. Molitrix, the collagen hydrolysates of H. Molitrix might have great potential for being developed as dietary supplements to prevent cardiovascular diseases in the future.

Abstract
In 2020, the world's food crisis and health industry ushered into a real outbreak. On one side, there were natural disasters such as the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), desert locusts, floods, and droughts exacerbating the world food crisis, while on the other side, the social development and changes in lifestyles prompted the health industry to gradually shift from a traditional medical model to a new pattern of prevention, treatment, and nourishment. Therefore, this article reviews animal by-products collagen and derived peptide, as important components of innovative sustainable food systems. The review also considered the preparation, identification, and characterization of animal by-product collagen and collagen peptides as well as their impacts on the food system (including food processing, packaging, preservation, and functional foods). Finally, the application and research progress of animal by-product collagen and peptide in the food system along with the future development trend were discussed. This knowledge would be of great significance for a comprehensive understanding of animal by-product collagen and collagen peptides and would encourage the use of collagen in food processing, preservation, and functional foods.

Abstract
The collagen hydrolysate, a proteinic biopeptide, is used for various key functionalities in humans and animals. Numerous reviews explained either individually or a few of following aspects: types, processes, properties, and applications. In the recent developments, various biological, biochemical, and biomedical functionalities are achieved in five aspects: process, type, species, disease, receptors. The receptors are rarely addressed in the past which are an essential stimulus to activate various biomedical and biological activities in the metabolic system of humans and animals. Furthermore, a systematic segregation of the recent developments regarding the five main aspects is not yet reported. This review presents various biological, biochemical, and biomedical functionalities achieved for each of the beforementioned five aspects using a systematic approach. The review proposes a novel three-level hierarchy that aims to associate a specific functionality to a particular aspect and its subcategory. The hierarchy also highlights various key research novelties in a categorical manner that will contribute to future research.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus, a complex metabolic disorder, leads to many health complications like kidney failure, diabetic heart disease, stroke, and foot ulcers. Treatment approaches of diabetes and identification of the mechanisms underlying diabetic complications of the skin have gained importance due to continued rapid increase in the diabetes incidence. A thick and pre-vascularized in vitro 3D type 2 diabetic human skin model (DHSM) was developed in this study. The methacrylated gelatin (GelMA) hydrogel was produced by photocrosslinking and its pore size (54.85 ± 8.58 μm), compressive modulus (4.53 ± 0.67 kPa) and swelling ratio (17.5 ± 2.2%) were found to be suitable for skin tissue engineering. 8% GelMA hydrogel effectively supported the viability, spreading and proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts. By isolating dermal fibroblasts, human umbilical vein endothelial cells and keratinocytes from type 2 diabetic patients, an in vitro 3D type 2 DHSM, 12 mm in width and 1.86 mm thick, was constructed. The skin model consisted of a continuous basal epidermal layer and a dermal layer with blood capillary-like structures, ideal for evaluating the effects of anti-diabetic drugs and wound healing materials and factors. The functionality of the DHSM was showed by applying a therapeutic hydrogel into its central wound; especially fibroblast migration to the wound site was evident in 9 d. We have demonstrated that DHSM is a biologically relevant model with sensitivity and predictability in evaluating the diabetic wound healing potential of a therapeutic material.

Abstract
Osteoporosis is a bone disease affecting more than 2 million people comprising 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men in Canada. One possible approach to prevent this disease is to stimulate the activity of osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) using food protein-derived bioactive peptides. In our previous study, an ACE inhibitory tripeptide LRW (Leu-Arg-Trp) was identified from pea protein. This work aims to investigate the effect of tripeptide LRW on promoting osteoblastic activity. The tripeptide LRW treatment (50 μM) in MC3T3-E1 cells increased cell proliferation (4-fold increase) as indicated by BrdU incorporation assay. Moreover, we found that tripeptide LRW stimulated osteoblastic differentiation by increasing the levels of type 1 collagen (COL1A2; 3-fold increase), alkaline phosphatase (ALP; 4-fold increase), and runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2; 2-fold increase) and the activation of the protein kinase B (Akt) signaling pathway. Furthermore, tripeptide LRW increased matrix mineralization as evidenced by Alizarin-S red staining and nodule formation, osteoprotegerin levels (OPG; 2-fold increase), and wound healing based on cell migration assay. Overall, pea protein-derived bioactive peptide LRW can positively modulate the activity of osteoblasts probably via the Akt/Runx2 pathway, indicating its potential use for the prevention of osteoporosis.

Abstract
Yeonsan Ogye is a traditional Korean chicken breed (Gallus domesticus, GD), with a dominant gene for fibromelanosis, showing entirely black fluffy head feathers, ear lobes, and pupils. GD collagen extract (78.6 g per 100 g total protein) was derived from the flesh of Yeonsan Ogye. The effects of GD collagen on bone mass, microarchitecture, osteogenic, osteoclastogenic differentiations, and function factor expression were investigated in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. GD collagen stimulated osteogenesis in OVX rats and increased tibial bone strength and calcium content. Micro-computed tomography analysis of tibia cross-sections revealed that GD collagen attenuated the OVX-induced changes in trabecular thickness, spacing, and number. GD collagen stimulated alkaline phosphatase activity, bone-specific matrix proteins (alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin, collagen type I (COL-I)) and mineralization by activating bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2)/mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 5 (SMAD5)/runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2). GD collagen inhibited osteoclast differentiation and function gene markers (TRAP, cathepsin K) by interfering with the Wnt signaling, increasing OPG production, and reducing the expression of RANKL, TRAP, and cathepsin K. GD collagen promoted osteogenesis by activating the p38 signal pathway and prevented osteoclastogenesis by lowering the RANKL/OPG ratio and blocking the JNK signaling pathway. Dietary supplementation with GD collagen might inhibit osteoclastogenesis, stimulate osteoblastogenesis, and regulate bone metabolism.

Abstract
Human-like collagen (HLC), the collagen produced using fermentation technology, has been demonstrated previously to promote wound healing. However, the healing property of HLC in gastric ulcers remains to be verified. In this study, we investigated the healing efficacy and healing mechanisms of HLC on gastric ulcers. To investigate whether HLC still has healing activity on gastric ulcers after gastric digestion, we simulated gastric digestion in vitro to obtain a human-like collagen digestion product (HLCP) and used it as the control drug. A chronic gastric ulcer model induced by 60% acetic acid in rats was used to evaluate the healing effect of gastric ulcers in this study. The results showed that oral administration of HLC or HLCP for 4 or 7 days promoted ulcer healing, which can be directly observed by significant reductions in ulcer area. The oral administration of HLC and HLCP significantly increased the protein expression of growth factors (EGF, HGF, VEGF, bFGF and TGF-β1) and the HGF receptor (HGFr), promoted collagen deposition, regulated the activity of NOS, and decreased pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-a, il-6, il-10) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) levels in gastric tissue. Moreover, cell experiments showed that the effects of HLC on cell proliferation and migration are mainly caused by its digestion products. These findings indicate that HLC may be used as a nutritional supplement or therapeutic drug to promote the healing of gastric ulcers.
