Abstract
The stereoisomerically pure synthesis of a novel heptanuclear Ru(II)-Os(II) antenna bearing multitopic terpyridine ligands is reported. An unambiguous structural characterization was obtained by 1H NMR spectroscopy and ion mobility spectrometry (IMS-MS). The heptanuclear complex exhibits large molar absorption coefficients (77900 M-1 cm-1 at 497 nm) and undergoes unitary, downhill, convergent energy transfer from the peripheral Ru(II) subunits to the central Os(II) that displays photoluminescence with a lifetime (τ = 161 ns) competent for diffusional excited-state electron transfer reactivity in solution.

Abstract
A diruthenium(ii) complex involving the di(terpyridine) ligand 1,2-bis{5-(5″-methyl-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridinyl)}ethane was synthesised by heating an equimolar ratio of RuCl3 and the ligand under reflux conditions in ethylene glycol for 3 days, realising double-stranded helicate and mesocate forms which were chromatographically separated. The two species were obtained in relatively low yield (each ~7–9%) from the reaction mixture. X-Ray structural studies revealed differences in the cavity sizes of the two structures, with the helicate structure having a significantly smaller cavity. Furthermore, the helicate and mesocate forms pack with notably different arrangements of the structures with the helicate having large solvent and anion filled pores. 1D/2D NMR studies revealed rigidity in the mesocate structure relative to that of the helicate, such that the –CH2CH2– signal was split in the former and appeared as a singlet in the latter. In a manner analogous to the behaviour of the parent [Ru(tpy)2]2+ coordination moiety (tpy=2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine), photophysical studies indicated that both the helicate and mesocate forms were non-emissive at ~610nm at room temperature, but at 77K in n-butyronitrile, both isomers showed emission at ~610nm (λex 472nm). However, the temporal emission characteristics were very different: time-resolved studies showed the emission of the helicate species decayed with a dominant emission lifetime of ~10 μs (similar to the emissive properties of free [Ru(tpy)2]2+ under the same conditions), whereas for the mesocate the emission lifetime was at least three orders of magnitude lower (~4 ns).

Abstract
A synthetic peptide containing two Nε-methyl lysines (Ac-K(Nε-Me)GYTGYTGK(Nε-Me)D-OH) was alkylated with bipyridine (bipy) ligands substituted at the fifth (MP-5) and sixth (MP-6) positions, thereby creating Ac-K(Nε-Me, Nε-Bipy)GYTGYTGK(Nε-Me, Nε-Bipy)D-OH. Peptides with 6-position bipyridine did not bind to Fe2+ and Zn2+. Peptides with 5-position bipyridine bound these metals, and in the presence of one equivalent of a free bipy derivative folded into a macrocycle. Further, the free bipy derivative could also contain a cyclized peptide derived from hydrazone formation, resulting in complex but controlled quaternary peptide structure.

Abstract
Reported herein the binding affinity between Human Serum Albumin and the DNA binding and cleavage activity of three copper(II) complexes, [Cu(phen)(o-van)ClO4] (1), [Cu(phen)(gly)]ClO4 (2) and [Cu(L1)2(H2O)2] (3) wherein 1 and 2 are synthesized with 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and co-ligands (o-van: o-vanillin; gly: glycine) and 3 with a ligand 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene-4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-amine (H1L1). Complex 2 crystallizes in monoclinic (P21/n) space group shows square pyramidal geometry. The complex 3 crystallizes in monoclinic (P21/a) space group. All the three complexes exhibit binding affinity towards the transport protein Human Serum albumin (HSA). Quantitative evaluation of the thermodynamics of interaction and the results obtained from fluorescence spectroscopy suggest that metal coordinated glycynate, o-vanillin and perchlorate groups have a major role to play in the binding process, the latter two being stronger in the binding of complex 1. The coordinated water in complex 3 also plays an important role in the binding, which makes binding of complex 3 with HSA stronger than that of complex 2. Experimental results indicate that the binding affinity of the complexes towards CT-DNA is in the order 1>3>2 implying that complex 1 binds stronger than complex 3 and 2.The DNA cleaving activity of all the three complexes was explored in the presence of reactive oxygen compound, H2O2. All the three complexes have primarily shown the DNA cleaving activity.

Abstract
A new series of azodye ligands 5-chloro-3-hydroxy-4-(aryldiazenyl)pyridin-2(1H)-one (HLn) were synthesized by coupling of 5-chloro-3-hydroxypyridin-2(1H)-one with aniline and its p-derivatives. These ligands and their Ru(III) complexes of the type trans-[Ru(Ln)2(AsPh3)2]Cl were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, (1)H NMR and UV-Visible spectra as well as magnetic and thermal measurements. The molar conductance measurements proved that all the complexes are electrolytes. IR spectra show that the ligands (HLn) acts as a monobasic bidentate ligand by coordinating via the nitrogen atom of the azo group (NN) and oxygen atom of the deprotonated phenolic OH group, thereby forming a six-membered chelating ring and concomitant formation of an intramolecular hydrogen bond. The molecular and electronic structures of the investigated compounds (HLn) were also studied using quantum chemical calculations. The calf thymus DNA binding activity of the ligands (HLn) and their Ru(III) complexes were studied by absorption spectra and viscosity measurements. The mechanism and the catalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol by trans-[Ru(Ln)2(AsPh3)2]Cl with hydrogen peroxide as co-oxidant were described.

Abstract
A new bipyridine building block has been used for the solid-phase synthesis of dinuclear DNA-binding ruthenium(II) metallopeptides. Detailed spectroscopic studies suggest that these compounds bind to the DNA by insertion into the DNA minor groove. Moreover, the potential of the solid-phase peptide synthesis approach is demonstrated by the straightforward synthesis of an octaarginine derivative that shows effective cellular internalization and cytotoxicity linked with strong DNA interaction, as evidenced by steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy and AFM studies.

Abstract
The review will discuss the influence of metal ions on conformational changes of oligonucleotides. First, a short definition of the torsion angles is given, followed by a concise yet critical overview of the commonly applied experimental techniques. Finally, the possible role of metals upon the following conformational changes of oligonucleotides is discussed: (i) the denaturation of double-strands, (ii) the transition from B- to A-DNA, (iii) the transition from right- to left-handed DNA and RNA, (iv) the condensation, (v) and other conformational changes. We conclude with a summary and outlook.

Abstract
Helicates are α-helical, nonpeptide complexes that bind to DNA and exhibit antimicrobial activity. In the past, enthusiasm for the use of helicates in biological applications was limited, at least in part, by the presence of a racemic mixture of enantiomers or the formation of complexes that are insoluble in aqueous solutions. Recently, Howson et al. overcame the barriers associated with helicate synthesis by generating helicate-like complexes that are soluble and stable in water, optically pure and synthetically flexible. The mechanism synthesizes nonpeptide mimetic α-helical 'flexicates' that bind to DNA and show broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against representative Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial pathogens. Although the application of flexicates as an antimicrobial therapy remains to be determined, this study provides important insight into flexicate activity and the prospective use of flexicates as microbicidal agents.
