Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide an updated evaluation of clinical effectiveness and sequelae of maxillomandibular advancement surgery in obstructive sleep apnea. DATA SOURCES PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL. REVIEW METHODS Included studies described patients with obstructive sleep apnea that completed maxillomandibular advancement with any reported sequelae. Meta-analysis of proportions, regressions, and single means with 95% confidence interval were calculated using random and fixed effects models. RESULTS Of 380 unique abstracts reviewed, a total of 31 studies (n = 1597) were included in meta-analysis. Maxillomandibular advancement patients showed significant improvements in apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), respiratory disturbance index (RDI), SpO2 Nadir, Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), and body-mass index (BMI) by -41.87/h [-49.86 to -33.89], -46.24/h [-62.18 to -30.29], 6.29% [3.42 to 12.08], -8.69 [-11.54 to -5.83], and -0.74 kg/m2 [-1.35 to -0.12], respectively. Sequelae with the greatest incidence were early lower facial numbness (83.40%), late lower facial numbness at less and greater than 1 year follow-up (66.51%, 32.73% respectively), and hardware removal (21.99%). There was a positive correlation between both preoperative BMI and length of hospital stay (r = 0.81, P = .052) and age and lower facial numbness (r = 0.42, P = .196). A negative correlation was found between Change in AHI and time to follow up (r = 0.75, P = .087). No major complications nor mortality were reported. CONCLUSION Maxillomandibular advancement has the highest success rate for obstructive sleep apnea among current surgical treatments, with most sequelae being transient. Early lower facial numbness should be highlighted preoperatively to ensure informed decision-making. Further research should be geared towards reducing this risk.

Abstract
Orthognathic surgery typically relies on the rigid fixation of fracture fragments using metal hardware. Though hardware is usually intended to be implanted permanently, the removal of hardware (ROH) is sometimes indicated for a variety of reasons. The authors sought to identify risk factors for ROH following orthognathic surgery. The authors conducted a retrospective analysis of the Merative MarketScan Research Databases, 2007-2021 using Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Disease (ICD-9 and ICD-10) codes to identify patients who underwent an index Le Fort 1 osteotomy and bilateral sagittal split osteotomy operation on the same day. Statistical analysis involved χ 2 , Shapiro-Wilk, Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney, Poisson regression, and multivariable logistic regression tests. 4698 patients met the inclusion criteria. The mean age at surgery was 25 years, and 57% were female. ROH occurred in 5.9% of patients. The mean time to hardware removal was 190.5±172.4 days. In a multivariate logistic regression, increased odds of ROH were associated with older patient age [OR: 1.02 (1.01-1.03), P =0.046], sleep apnea [OR: 1.62 (1.13-2.32), P =0.018], and craniofacial syndrome and/or cleft diagnoses [OR: 1.88 (1.14-2.55), P <0.001]. In the same model, postoperative oral antibiotic prophylaxis was not associated with ROH ( P =0.494). The incidence of all-cause complications [IRR: 1.03 (1.01-1.05), P <0.001] rose over the study period, while the incidence of ROH did not change significantly ( P =0.281). Patients at elevated risk should be counseled on the increased possibility of a second operation for ROH before having orthognathic surgery to ensure expectations and health care utilization decisions align with the evidence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to determine the efficacy of hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGS) in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. DATA SOURCES PubMed, Cochrane database, Embase, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar. REVIEW METHODS Five databases were reviewed to identify relevant studies that measured polysomnography parameters such as the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and oxygen desaturation index, as well as quality of life and functional outcomes of sleep questionnaire scores, before and after HGS. RESULTS In total, 44 studies involving 8670 patients met the inclusion criteria. At 12 months after treatment, approximately 47%, 72%, and 82% of patients achieved AHI values of <5, < 10, and <15, respectively. The reported clinical success rates according to Sher criteria were 80% within 12 months and 73% between 12 and 36 months. While the favorable effects exhibited a gradual reduction up to 12 months postimplantation, they generally maintained a consistent level between the 12th and 36th months, as assessed by AHI < 5, <15, and success rate according to Sher criteria. CONCLUSION HGS can enhance quality of life scores and polysomnography outcomes in obstructive sleep apnea patients. Although the positive effects gradually decreased until 12 months after implantation, they generally remained consistent between 12 and 36 months.

Abstract
Orthognathic treatment has been demonstrated to enhance oral function and quality of life. In the UK, prior approval criteria have been trialled to govern the provision of orthognathic surgery within the National Health Service (NHS). These include the patient's age and presence of functional concerns. The purpose of this paper was to examine the outcomes of orthognathic treatment with respect to patient age at the start of treatment. This was a retrospective evaluation of a single surgeon's experience of patients treated for dentofacial deformity over a 17-year period. A total of 118 patients completed pre-treatment and post-treatment questionnaires. There were significant improvements (p < 0.001) in reported functional problems, and in Body Satisfaction Scale (BSS), General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), and in Anxiety questionnaire scores. There was no difference in outcome when younger and older patients were compared. Orthognathic treatment produced positive functional and psychosocial outcomes irrespective of the patient's age at the start of treatment.

Abstract
Background: Maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) remains one of the most effective surgeries for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), but it can be difficult to manage nasal and midfacial esthetics for patients requiring significant maxillary advancement. Objective: To evaluate changes in the Standardized Cosmesis and Health Nasal Outcomes Survey (SCHNOS) after the modified MMA approach. Methods: This prospective study was conducted on subjects undergoing MMA at a tertiary referral center from September 2020 to August 2021. Nasal function, cosmesis, and sleepiness were assessed perioperatively with the SCHNOS, visual analog scale for nasal function and cosmesis, and Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS). Objective polysomnography data were also investigated. Results: Thirty-one subjects met inclusion criteria. After MMA, SCHNOS-O (obstruction domain) improved from 44.38 ± 26.21 to 19.03 ± -4.75 (p < 0.001). The SCHNOS-C (cosmesis domain) improved significantly from 13.95 ± 19.32 to 5.27 ± 8.93 (p = 0.029). Specific items evaluating self-esteem, nasal straightness, and symmetry showed significant improvement (p = 0.006, 0.025, 0.044). The ESS also improved from 9.41 ± 6.11 to 3.26 ± 3.03 (p < 0.001), and it correlated with nasal obstruction scores. Conclusion: In this study, patients' perception of nasal obstruction and appearance improved after applying the nasal modifications to MMA described for OSA.

Abstract
PURPOSE A large cohort of patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) require surgical intervention, sometimes in the form of maxillomandibular advancement (MMA), to correct their functional disturbance. Such a surgical procedure typically results in a slight modification of the patients' facial appearance. The purpose of the current systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the rate of satisfaction with facial aesthetics post-MMA intervention and to assess its dependability on and relationship with other patient or treatment factors. Based on the literature currently available, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper to draw on the topic analytically. METHODS A search was conducted on four electronic literature databases (Pubmed, Ovid, Science Direct, and Scholar). Using referred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), our inclusion criterion covered any case with adequate reported data pertaining to the research question up to June 2021. Three evaluator groups were utilized. Satisfaction was defined as either an obvious reported increase in fondness for facial appearance or a state of indifference to the cosmetic results of the conducted changes. Dissatisfaction was defined as a clear discontent with the post-operative esthetic results. A multivariate analysis of the data was conducted, and Chi-square tests for independence were used to detect any significant associations. A meta-analysis of proportion was employed to permit for Freeman-Tukey double arcsine transformation and stabilize the variance of each study's proportion. Cochran's Q was computed, and the significance level was gauged as a function of P value. RESULTS Meta-analyses of proportion conducted for assessment of aesthetic appraisal following surgical MMA for OSA elucidated a significantly higher predilection towards aesthetic satisfaction after surgical MMA for OSA for all evaluator groups in the encompassed studies. 94.2% of patients were satisfied with their facial esthetics postoperatively. CONCLUSION The vast majority of patients that undergo MMA for the correction of OSA report satisfaction with post-surgical facial aesthetics. The subjective assessment of this parameter by physicians and laypeople portrays an equivalently significant skew toward post-surgical appearance improvement. MMA is a generally safe procedure that substantially contributes to enhancement of both overall quality of life and perceived aesthetic appeal.

Abstract
This systematic review aimed to comparatively evaluate the efficacy and safety of maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) and upper airway stimulation (UAS) in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment. A MEDLINE and Embase database search of articles on MMA and/or UAS for OSA was conducted. Twenty-one MMA studies and nine UAS studies were included. All the MMA studies demonstrated a reduction in apnea hypopnea index (AHI) postoperatively, and success rates ranged from 41.1% to 100%. Ten MMA studies reported pre- and postoperative Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), and all but one study demonstrated a reduction in ESS. In the UAS studies, all but one demonstrated a reduction in AHI, and success rates ranged from 26.7% to 77.8%. In the eight UAS studies reporting pre- and postoperative ESS, an ESS reduction was demonstrated. No studies reported any deaths related to MMA or UAS. The most common postoperative complications after MMA and UAS were facial paresthesia in the mandibular area and discomfort due to electrical stimulation, respectively. This systematic review suggests that both MMA and UAS are effective and generally safe therapies for OSA. However, due to the limitations of the included studies, there is no evidence yet to directly compare these two procedures in OSA treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE Maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) is an accepted treatment modality for obstructive sleep apnea. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence of complications requiring an intensive care unit (ICU) level of care and the necessity of routine overnight ICU airway monitoring after MMA. PATIENTS AND METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing MMA at Massachusetts General Hospital from 2003 to 2020. The primary predictor variable was postoperative admission to the ICU versus post anesthesia care unit (PACU) or ward. The primary outcome variable was grade IV or V complications as scored using the Clavien-Dindo classification system. The secondary outcome variables included postoperative SpO2 nadir and length of hospital stay. Descriptive and bivariate statistics were computed to measure the association between complications and predictor variables. RESULTS The study sample consisted of 104 patients (74.0% male, mean age 37.6 ± 12.1 years), 61 of whom were admitted to the ICU (58.7%). During the initial 24 hours of airway monitoring, the mean SpO2 nadir was 93.7 ± 2.59% for patients admitted to the ICU compared with 94.0 ± 6.56% for patients admitted to the PACU or ward (P = .862). Patients experienced 2 grade IV complications (1.92%) and no grade V complications, with no statistical association between complications and postoperative admission location (P = 1.000). Age (P = .002) and operative time (P = .046) were the only variables statistically associated with grade IV or V complications. There was no difference in length of hospital stay between patients admitted to the ICU (2.64 ± 1.37 days) versus PACU or ward (2.58 ± 1.62 days). CONCLUSIONS The incidence of complications requiring ICU-level care after MMA for obstructive sleep apnea is low. Additional studies are warranted to guide development of feasible, cost-effective perioperative protocols for patients undergoing MMA.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Traditionally, maxillomandibular advancement is an orthognathic surgical procedure that has been used to manage obstructive sleep apnea in patients not able or willing to maintain adherence to continuous positive airway pressure therapy or for patient who are not able to adhere to treatment. However, maxillomandibular advancement often leads to unsatisfactory cosmetic results.This prospective study investigated functional and esthetic outcomes using polysomnography and 3-dimensional computed tomography, after counterclockwise rotational orthognathic surgery. We enrolled 17 patients with obstructive sleep apnea, who underwent orthognathic surgery at single institution between March 2013 and December 2018.After 12 months, the patients' mean self-rated score for facial appearance, using a 10-step visual analog scale, was 7.36. The preoperative apnea-hypopnea index and respiratory disturbance index were 34.70 and 37.45, respectively; postoperative indices were 11.60 and to 12.69, respectively (P = 0.003, 0.003). The mean posterior pharyngeal airway space increased from 5357.88 mm3 preoperatively to 8481.94 mm3 after 6 postoperative months.Counterclockwise rotational orthognathic surgery for the correction of obstructive sleep apnea turned out to be the ideal solution not only in the correction of the sleep apnea, but also in the facial esthetics.

Abstract
Micrognathia and retrognathia, as observed in patients with the Hallermann-Streiff-Francois syndrome, might result in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. When it becomes severe (apnea-hypopnea index [AHI], ≥30), noninvasive treatment options might be insufficient. An orthognathic treatment with mandibular advancement will increase the upper airway volume, which results in a decrease of apneas. A 53-year-old woman with Hallermann-Streiff-Francois syndrome and a history of antiresorptive medication suffered from severe obstructive sleep apnea (AHI, 77.7). She was treated with a combined orthodontic and surgical approach. The AHI decreased to 1, and the patient felt fitter after treatment. No medication-induced osteonecrosis nor inhibition of tooth movement was seen. A combined orthodontic and surgical treatment of a patient with severe obstructive sleep apnea was a good treatment choice. With a history of antiresorptive medication, the risks related to these medications have to be weighed up against the consequences of not treating obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. With a drug holiday, successful surgical treatment can be achieved.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of multilevel phase I surgery for the treatment of moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in retrognathic patients with oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal obstruction. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a 10-year retrospective cohort study of patients treated by a single surgeon at the Boston University Medical Center. From 2000 to 2010, retrognathic patients with moderate OSA and verified palatal and tongue base obstruction were treated with multilevel phase I surgery that included uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, hyoid suspension, and genioglossus advancement. All patients were evaluated clinically and received polysomnographic studies at three time points: preoperatively (T1), between 6 and 12 months postoperatively (T2), and a minimum of 24 months postoperatively (T3). RESULTS Twenty-five subjects composed the final study sample. At T2, 11 patients (44.0%) experienced a complete response, 13 (52.0%) experienced a partial response, and 1 (4.0%) experienced no response. Although phase I surgery was associated with significant changes in AHI (F(2,48) = 119.3; P < .01) throughout the follow-up period, only one patient at T3 (4.0%) met the criteria for a complete response. The remaining patients were divided evenly between partial response (48.0%) and treatment failure (48.0%), of whom 4 (16.0%) patients had worsening of their obstruction. Thirteen of these patients subsequently elected to undergo maxillomandibular advancement, while 11 elected to continue using continuous positive airway pressure. CONCLUSIONS Although phase I surgery was associated with AHI changes, this reduction was not sufficient to produce a long-term treatment response in over half of our patients. Treatment response was worse after 2 years than at 6 to 12 months. Patients with moderate OSA should understand that multilevel phase I surgery has a greater chance of failure than success and that transient improvements may not be durable.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to examine the association between type of facial osteotomies performed during orthognathic surgery and postoperative outcomes including complications, length of stay, and readmission. METHODS A retrospective review of orthognathic surgery cases from the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) database from 2004 to 2014 was undertaken. Osteotomy procedures were classified as Le Fort 1 (LF 1), Mandibular osteotomy, Genioplasty or their combinations. Primary outcome variable was major complications. Secondary outcomes included postoperative LOS > 1 day and 90-day readmission. Random-intercept logistic regression models were utilized to assess the association between the type of osteotomy performed and the outcomes. Bonferroni approach was used to account for multiple comparisons. RESULTS The sample included 5413 patients, with a mean age of 17.1 ± 1.68 years and 60.65% were female. The most common procedures were LF1 (39.4%), followed by bimaxillary surgery (23%). Major complications occurred in 8.57% of patients, postoperative LOS > 1 day in 52.4% and 90-day all-cause readmission in 11.16%. In adjusted analyses comparing LF1 compared to mandibular osteotomies, there were no significant differences for major complications (OR = 0.78), 90-day readmission rate (OR = 0.98). However, LF1 was associated with an increased odds for LOS compared to mandibular osteotomies (OR = 1.42). Addition of osteotomies is associated with a significant increase in LOS (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Patients undergoing orthognathic surgery demonstrated increased length of stay for LF1 or bimaxillary osteotomies. Osteotomy type did not impact the odds of readmission or complications. The trends revealed should be helpful for patient counseling.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to evaluate the morphology of the genial tubercle (GT) and lingual foramen (LF) between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and non-OSA patients for considerations of mandibular advancement surgery. METHODS Cone beam CT records of 198 patients were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Five variables were measured for genial tubercle; anterior mandible thickness (AMT), the distance from the lower incisors to the superior border of the genial tubercle, the distance from the inferior border of the genial tubercle to inferior border of the mandible, the height of GT, and genial tubercle width. Lingual foramen were classified according to the genial tubercle. The frequencies, distances of lingual foramen to alveolar crest, lower border of mandible (LVDL) and diameter of LF were also measured. RESULTS Significant differences was found for genial tubercle width, anterior mandible thickness, and the distance of lower mandibular border to the midline lingual foramina between OSA and non-OSA patients (p < 0.05). AMT gets thicker and GT gets narrower in OSA patients (p < 0.05). A linear regression analysis on the apnea hypopnea index with measured anatomical variables showed the LVDL (R = - 0.355*), body mass index (R = 0.254), and age (R = 0.33) showed a statistically significant association (p < 0.05). None of the other variables reached formal significance. CONCLUSION LVDL is linearly associated with sleep apnea severity. The variable dimensions and anatomy of genial tubercle as well as lingual foramen for OSA patients suggest the need of 3D preoperative radiological evaluation before genioglossus advancement surgery. Cone beam CT can be a powerful low radiation dose tool both for evaluating the anatomy of the upper airway and mandibular structures at the same time for OSA patients.

Now that we have discussed and analyzed strategies to surgically achieve an adequately functioning and appearing nose, additional treatments are still required in many cases to achieve jaw closure due to limited musculoskeletal tone of the maxilla and mandible, as we described in Chaps. 4 and 5. From surgical jaw expansion, orthodontic treatments to jaw closure straps and appliances, these strategies are considered and evaluated in this chapter.

Abstract
Patients with sleeping disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea, (OSA) have a higher risk for postoperative complications after maxillofacial surgery under general anesthesia. The aim of this study was to detect specific complications after oral and maxillofacial surgery. Sixty-nine cases of patients with middle or severe sleep apnea who underwent an operation under general anesthesia in the oral and maxillofacial region were retrospectively analyzed. This group was compared with an age and diagnosis matched group without sleep apnea receiving the same operative treatment. We found a significant difference between the two groups concerning body mass index, the ASA-Index, the Cormack-Mallampati Index, the number of pre-existing conditions, and home medication (p < 0.05). Concerning the length of stay, overrun of estimated mean length of stay, and number of surgical complications and hypertonic events, no difference could be detected. Almost 28% of the patients with OSA in our study suffered a substantial respiratory complication even under intensive care observation. The number of patients with oxygen desaturation was 9% in the control group, which differed significantly (p = 0.0093) from the number of such patients in the OSA group. In this study, we have shown that the presence of OSA in patients undergoing elective maxillofacial surgery is associated with a considerable number of comorbidities in the postoperative period. Through preoperative OSA screening and OSA evaluation, an improvement in management of surveillance resources could be achieved and the OSA-specific risk could be assessed more precisely and also reduced.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purposes of this study were to determine the occurrence of undiagnosed "silent" obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in dentofacial deformity (DFD) patients at initial surgical presentation and to report on the level of daytime sleepiness in DFD patients with OSA and chronic obstructive nasal breathing (CONB) after undergoing bimaxillary, chin, and intranasal surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective cohort study of patients with a bimaxillary DFD and CONB was implemented. Patients were divided into those with no OSA (group I) and those with OSA (group II). Group II was further subdivided into patients referred with polysomnogram (PSG)-confirmed OSA (group IIa) and those with a diagnosis of OSA only after surgical consultation, airway evaluation, and a positive PSG (group IIb). Group II patients were analyzed at a minimum of 1 year after surgery (range, 1 to 10 years) for daytime sleepiness with the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. Patients with postoperative excessive daytime sleepiness were assessed for risk factors and continued need for OSA treatment. Patients in group II were studied to determine which DFD patterns were most associated with OSA. We compared the prevalence of OSA between our study population and the general population. RESULTS Two hundred sixty-two patients met the inclusion criteria. Of these, 23% (60 of 262) had PSG-confirmed OSA (group II). This rate was much higher than that found in the general population. Of the patients, 7% (19 of 262) were known to have OSA at initial surgical consultation (group IIa). An additional 16% (41 of 262) were later confirmed by PSG to have OSA (group IIb). Patients with primary mandibular deficiency and short face DFDs were most likely to have OSA (P < .001 and P = .001, respectively). In group II, 91% (55 of 60) rated their daytime sleepiness as "not sleepy" at a minimum of 1 year after surgery. A significant association was found between group II patients with postoperative excessive daytime sleepiness ("sleepy" or "very sleepy") and a preoperative body mass index category of overweight (P = .026). CONCLUSIONS Our study found silent OSA to be frequent in the DFD population. The prevalence of OSA in DFD patients exceeded that estimated in the general population, with retrusive jaw patterns most affected. In DFD patients also presenting with OSA and CONB, we confirmed low levels of daytime sleepiness long-term after simultaneous bimaxillary orthognathic, chin, and intranasal surgery.

Abstract
Objective Efficacy of maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with degree of maxillary advancement. Large maxillary advancement leads to profound changes of the nasolabial region. We present the incidence and indications of post-MMA corrective nasal surgery in a large cohort. Study Design Case series with chart review. Setting University medical center. Subjects and Methods A total of 379 subjects with OSA underwent MMA at Stanford Hospital (surgeons: S.Y.L., R.W.R.) from August 1992 to December 2015. Data were collected on age, sex, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, polysomnography parameters, and history of nasal surgery. Primary outcome parameters were the incidence and indications of post-MMA corrective nasal surgery. Results Of 379 subjects, the surgical success rate was 76.3% based on the change in respiratory disturbance index. Seventy-one subjects (18.7%) underwent corrective nasal surgery after MMA, whereas 48 underwent functional nasal surgery and 23 underwent both functional and aesthetic nasal surgery. Lower oxygen saturation nadir and higher baseline respiratory disturbance index were associated with increased likelihood of post-MMA corrective nasal surgery. Conclusion MMA surgical success is associated with degree of maxillary advancement, which is especially significant in patients with severe OSA. Patients must be counseled on its impact in nasal function and aesthetics. Our series, the largest to date to address this question, suggests that the incidence of post-MMA corrective nasal surgery is at least 18.7%. Prospectively, refinement in MMA techniques is needed to minimize postoperative compromise in nasal form and function.

Abstract
Objective Assess the frequency and nature of postoperative complications following sleep surgery. Examine these issues specifically in elderly patients to provide guidance for their perioperative care. Study Design Retrospective cohort study. Setting American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. Methods We identified patients with obstructive sleep apnea undergoing sleep surgery procedures from 2006 to 2013 in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, a multi-institutional outcomes program designed to improve surgical quality. We analyzed patients by comparing age groups: <65 and ≥65 years. Summary data were analyzed, and multivariate regression was used to adjust for patient characteristics, comorbidities, and surgical procedure. Results We identified 2230 patients who had sleep surgery, which included 2123 patients <65 years old and 107 patients ≥65 years old. Elderly patients were significantly more likely to have hypertension requiring medication ( P < .001) and higher American Society of Anesthesiologists scores ( P < .001). There were no significant differences in the rates of nasal ( P = .87), palate ( P = .59), tongue base ( P = .73), and multilevel ( P = .95) surgery being performed on both groups of patients. Elderly patients had higher rates of wound complications and urinary tract infections as compared with younger patients. On multivariate analysis, age ≥65 was significantly associated with complications from sleep surgery (odds ratio, 2.35; 95% CI, 1.04-5.35). Conclusion Elderly patients undergoing sleep surgery have increased postoperative complication risk as compared with younger patients treated similarly. This information can help direct quality improvement efforts in the care of older patients.
