Abstract
The treatment of [Ru(η6-p-cymene)Cl2]2 with N,N’-(1,2-phenylene)dipicolinamide (H2L1) afforded the double salt complex [{Ru(η6-p-cymene)2-µ-Cl}L1][Ru(η6-p-cymene)Cl3], (Ru1) in moderate yields. Separately, the reactions of ligands (H2L1), N,N’-(4,5 dimethyl-1,2-phenylene)dipicolinamide (H2L2), and N,N’-(4-methoxy-1,2-phenylene)dipicolinamide (H2L3) with the [Ru(η6-p-cymene)Cl2]2 in the presence of KPF6 afforded the respective dinuclear half-sandwich Ru(II) complexes [{(Ru(η6-p-cymene)2--µ-Cl}L1][PF6] (Ru2), [{(Ru(η6-p-cymene)2-µ-Cl}L2][PF6] (Ru3), and [{(Ru(η6-p-cymene)2-µ-Cl}L3][PF6] (Ru4). NMR and FT-IR spectroscopies, ESI-MS spectrometry, and elemental analyses were used to establish the molecular structures of the new dinuclear ruthenium(II) complexes. Single crystal X-ray crystallography was used to confirm the piano-stool geometry of the dinuclear complexes Ru1 and Ru4, as containing N^N chelated ligand and bridging chlorido ligands in each Ru(II) atom. The complexes (Ru1-Ru4) showed good catalytic activities at low catalyst concentrations of 0.005 mol% in the transfer hydrogenation of a wide range of ketone substrates.

Abstract
Reaction of salicylaldehyde-2-picolinylhydrazone (HL) Schiff base ligand with precursor compounds [{(p-cymene)RuCl2}2] 1, [{(C6H6)RuCl2}2] 2, [{Cp*RhCl2}2] 3 and [{Cp*IrCl2}2] 4 yielded the corresponding neutral mononuclear compounds 5-8, respectively. The in vitro antitumor evaluation of the compounds 1-8 against Dalton's ascites lymphoma (DL) cells by fluorescence-based apoptosis study and by their half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values revealed the high antitumor activity of compounds 3, 4, 5 and 6. Compounds 1-8 render comparatively lower apoptotic effect than that of cisplatin on model non-tumor cells, i.e., peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). The antibacterial evaluation of compounds 5-8 by agar well-diffusion method revealed that compound 6 is significantly effective against all the eight bacterial species considered with zone of inhibition up to 35 mm. Fluorescence imaging study of compounds 5-8 with plasmid circular DNA (pcDNA) and HeLa RNA demonstrated their fluorescence imaging property upon binding with nucleic acids. The docking study with some key enzymes associated with the propagation of cancer such as ribonucleotide reductase, thymidylate synthase, thymidylate phosphorylase and topoisomerase II revealed strong interactions between proteins and compounds 5-8. Conformational analysis by density functional theory (DFT) study has corroborated our experimental observation of the N, N binding mode of ligand. Compounds 5-8 exhibited a HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital)-LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) energy gap 2.99-3.04 eV. Half-sandwich ruthenium, rhodium and iridium compounds were obtained by treatment of metal precursors with salicylaldehyde-2-picolinylhydrazone (HL) by in situ metal-mediated deprotonation of the ligand. Compounds under investigation have shown potential antitumor, antibacterial and fluorescence imaging properties. Arene ruthenium compounds exhibited higher activity compared to that of Cp*Rh/Cp*Ir in inhibiting the cancer cells growth and pathogenic bacteria. At a concentration 100 µg/mL, the apoptosis activity of arene ruthenium compounds, 5 and 6 (~30 %) is double to that of Cp*Rh/Cp*Ir compounds, 7 and 8 (~12 %). Among the four new compounds 5-8, the benzene ruthenium compound, i.e., compound 6 is significantly effective against the pathogenic bacteria under investigation.

Abstract
We report the unprecedented observation and unequivocal crystallographic characterization of the meta-stable ligand loss intermediate solvento complex trans-[Ru(bpy)(κ2-btz)(κ1-btz)(NCMe)]2+ (1 a) that contains a monodentate chelate ligand. This and analogous complexes can be observed during the photolysis reactions of a family of complexes of the form [Ru()(btz)2]2+ (1 a–d: btz=1,1′-dibenzyl-4,4′-bi-1,2,3-triazolyl; =a) 2,2′-bipyridyl (bpy), b) 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridyl (dmbpy), c) 4,4′-dimethoxy-2,2′-bipyridyl (dmeobpy), d) 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)). In acetonitrile solutions, 1 a–d eventually convert to the bis-solvento complexes trans-[Ru()(btz)(NCMe)2]2+ (3 a–d) along with one equivalent of free btz, in a process in which the remaining coordinated bidentate ligands undergo a new rearrangement such that they become coplanar. X-ray crystal structure of 3 a and 3 d confirmed the co-planar arrangement of the and btz ligands and the trans coordination of two solvent molecules. These conversions proceed via the observed intermediate complexes 2 a–d, which are formed quantitatively from 1 a–d in a matter of minutes and to which they slowly revert back on being left to stand in the dark over several days. The remarkably long lifetime of the intermediate complexes (>12 h at 40 °C) allowed the isolation of 2 a in the solid state, and the complex to be crystallographically characterized. Similarly to the structures adopted by complexes 3 a and d, the bpy and κ2-btz ligands in 2 a coordinate in a square-planar fashion with the second monodentate btz ligand coordinated trans to an acetonitrile ligand.

Abstract
In the title compound, [Ru2(C10H14)2Cl2(C16H8N4)](PF6)2·2C3H6O, the binuclear RuII complex dication, [{RuCl(η6-cym)}2(μ-tape)]2+, built up by a planar 1,6,7,12-tetraazaperylene (tape) bridge, two η6-bound cymene (cym) ligands and two chloride ligands, includes an inversion center. The RuII atom shows the typical piano-stool motif for arene coordination. The counter-charge is provided by a hexafluoridophosphate anion and the asymmetric unit is completed by an acetone molecule of crystallization. The components of the structure are connected into a three-dimensional architecture by C—H⋯O/F/Cl interactions.

Abstract
Artificial enzymes: half-sandwich arene ruthenium(II) and cyclopentadienyl iridium(III) complexes containing N,N-chelated ligands can use NADH as a source of hydride for the reduction of ketones. Moreover, cyclopentadienyl phenanthroline iridium(III) derivatives at micromolar concentrations are robust catalysts for the production of H(2) from NADH in water and can raise the NAD(+)/NADH ratio in cancer cells.

Abstract
Bifunctional neutral half-sandwich RuII complexes of the type [(η6-arene)Ru(NH3)Cl2] where arene is p-cym (1) or bip (2) were synthesised by the reaction of N,N-dimethylbenzylamine (dmba), NH4PF6 and the corresponding RuII arene dimer, and were fully characterised. X-ray crystallographic studies of [(η6-p-cym)Ru(NH3)Cl2]·{(dmba-H)(PF6)} (1a) and [(η6-bip)Ru(NH3)Cl2] (2) show extensive H-bond interactions in the solid state, mainly involving the NH3 and the Cl ligands, as well as weak aromatic stacking interactions. The half-lives for the sequential hydrolysis of 1 and 2 determined by UV/Vis spectroscopy at 310 K ranged from a few minutes for the first aquation to ca. 45 min for the second aquation; the diaqua adducts were the predominant species at equilibrium. Arene loss during the aquation of complex 2 was observed. Upon hydrolysis, both complexes readily formed mono- and di-9-ethylguanine (9-EtG) adducts in aqueous solution at 310 K. The reaction reached equilibrium after ca. 1.8 h in the case of complex 1 and was slower but more complete for complex 2 (before the onset of arene loss at ca. 2.7 h). Complexes 1 and 2 were not cytotoxic towards A2780 human ovarian cancer cells up to the maximum concentration tested (100 μM).

Abstract
Btzn (1), an amine-functionalized bi(1,3,5-triazine) 4,4'-(NH(2))(2)-6,6'-(NHC(6)H(5))(2)-2,2'-(1,3,5-C(3)N(3))(2), is reported, and its coordination with Co, Ni and Cu is explored. Reactions of metal salts (2 equiv) with Btzn (1 equiv) result in dimeric species [(Btzn)Co(2)(NCS)(4)(EtOH)(2)(DMF)(2)], (2), [(Btzn)Ni(2)(η(1)-ONO(2))(2)(MeOH)(4)(DMF)(2)]·2[NO(3)], (3), [(Btzn)Cu(2)Cl(4)(DMF)(2)], (4), and [(Btzn)Cu(2)(η(2)-O(2)NO)(2)(OH(2))(2)(DMF)(2)]·2[NO(3)], (5). These complexes are the first examples of the coordination of transition metals with bi(1,3,5-triazine) ligands. Their structures display a bridging bis-bidentate coordination mode for Btzn. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility of the complexes reveals antiferromagnetic exchange between the spin carriers, with calculated exchange coupling values (J) of -4.7 cm(-1) for 3, -18.2 cm(-1) for 4, and -5.5 cm(-1) for 5. An in-depth evaluation of the metal geometry highlights the inefficient overlap of the magnetic d-orbitals through the bridging ligand, most likely leading to reduced delocalization and coupling.

Abstract
Iridium half-sandwich complexes of the types Cp*Ir(N-C)X, [Cp*Ir(N-N)X]X, and [CpIr(N-N)X]X are catalyst precursors for the homogeneous oxidation of water to dioxygen. Kinetic studies with cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate as primary oxidant show that oxygen evolution is rapid and continues over many hours. In addition, [Cp*Ir(H(2)O)(3)]SO(4) and [(Cp*Ir)(2)(μ-OH)(3)]OH can show even higher turnover frequencies (up to 20 min(-1) at pH 0.89). Aqueous electrochemical studies on the cationic complexes having chelate ligands show catalytic oxidation at pH > 7; conversely, at low pH, there are no oxidation waves up to 1.5 V vs NHE for the complexes. H(2)(18)O isotope incorporation studies demonstrate that water is the source of oxygen atoms during cerium(IV)-driven catalysis. DFT calculations and kinetic experiments, including kinetic-isotope-effect studies, suggest a mechanism for homogeneous iridium-catalyzed water oxidation and contribute to the determination of the rate-determining step. The kinetic experiments also help distinguish the active homogeneous catalyst from heterogeneous nanoparticulate iridium dioxide.

Abstract
We report the first example of a polynuclear discrete coordination compound exhibiting only bpym bridges and containing a first-row d transition metal. A smooth self-assembly one-pot synthetic route, starting from simply FeCl(2) and FeCl(3) hydrates, allowed us to prepare a tetranuclear Fe(4) cluster with a stairway-like structure and the formula cis-{[(H(2)O)Cl(3)Fe(III)-μ(bpym)Fe(II)Cl(2)]}(2)-μ(bpym) (1) . All spectroscopic data suggest that complex 1 is a valence-localized mixed-valent Fe(II)-Fe(III) cluster with typical Mössbauer lines for both sites, which do not change with temperature. Reflectance spectroscopy did not allow one to distinguish an intervalence charge-transfer band. However, time-dependent density functional theory (DFT) calculations predict a weak high-energy Fe(II) → Fe(III) transition. Regarding the magnetic properties, the high-spin Fe(II) and Fe(III) ions interact in a weakly antiferromagnetic way with isotropic J constants of only a few wavenumbers as derived from direct-current susceptibility and magnetization data. Broken-symmetry DFT calculations support these observations.
