Abstract
BACKGROUND Thiazine, a 6-membered distinctive heterocyclic motif with sulfur and nitrogen atoms, is one of the heterocyclic compounds that functions as a core scaffold in a number of medicinally significant molecules. Small thiazine-based compounds may operate simultaneously on numerous therapeutic targets and by employing a variety of methods to halt the development, proliferation, and vasculature of cancer cells. We have, herein, reported a series of substituted 1,4 benzothiazines as potential anticancer agents for the treatment of lung cancer. METHODS In order to synthesize 2,3-disubstituted-1,4 benzothiazines in good yield, a facile green approach for the oxidative cycloaddition of 2-amino benzenethiol and 1,3-dicarbonyls employing a catalytic amount of ceric ammonium nitrate has been devised. All the molecules have been characterized by spectral analysis and tested for anticancer activity against the A-549 lung cancer cell line using various functional assays. Further in silico screening of compound 3c against six crucial inflammatory molecular targets, such as Il1-α (PDB ID: 5UC6), Il1- β (PDB ID: 6Y8I), Il6 (PDB ID: 1P9M), vimentin (PDB ID: 3TRT), COX-2 (PDB ID: 5KIR), Il8 (PDB ID: 5D14), and TNF-α (PDB ID: 2AZ5), was done using AutoDock tool. RESULTS Among the synthesized compounds, propyl 3-methyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[b][1,4]thiazine-2- carboxylate (3c) was found to be most active based on cell viability assays using A-549 lung cancer cell line and was found to effectively downregulate various pro-inflammatory genes, like Il1-α, Il1-β, Il6, vimentin, COX-2, Il8, and TNF-α in vitro. The ability of the molecule to effectively suppress the proliferation and migration of lung cancer cells in vitro has been further demonstrated by the colony formation unit assay and wound healing assay. Molecular docking analysis showed the maximal binding affinity (- 7.54 kcal/mol) to be exhibited by compound 3c against IL8. CONCLUSION A green unconventional route for the synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted-1,4 benzothiazines has been developed. All the molecules were screened for their activity against lung cancer and the data suggested that the presence of an additional unbranched alkyl group attached to the thiazine ring increased their activity. Also, in vitro and in silico modeling confirmed the anti-cancer efficiency of compound 3c, encouraging the exploration of such small molecules against cancer.

Abstract
The present study reports the synthesis and biological evaluation of a new series of novel N-(1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)furan-2-carboxamide derivatives. The reactions were executed under both conventional and microwave irradiation conditions. An enhancement in the synthetic yields and rates was observed when the reactions were carried out under the microwave compared with the classical conditions. The structures of the products were ascertained by different analytical and spectral analyses. The antiproliferative activities were evaluated against three human epithelial cell lines; breast (MCF-7), colon (HCT-116), and prostate (PC-3) using MTT assay technique and doxorubicin was utilized as a reference drug. Besides, molecular docking studies were also performed and the vascular endothelial growth factor recptor-2 (VEGFR-2) was identified as a potential molecular target. Compounds 6, 7, 11a, 11b, 12, 14, and 16 showed promising antiproliferative activity against the three cancer cell lines investigated. Compounds 2 and 15b had significant antiproliferative activities against only colon and breast cells but not against the prostate cells. All the active antiproliferative compounds were highly selective. All the active antiproliferative compounds were good inhibitors of the VEGFR-2 at 7.4-11.5 nM compared with Pazopanib. Compound 7 with the most favorable orientation to the VEGFR-2 from the docking studies, was also the best inhibitor of the receptor. The antiproliferative activity of these compounds is in partial caused by their ability to inhibit the VEGFR-2 and since other molecular targets were not examined, other possibilities cannot be ruled out.

Abstract
An electrostatically enhanced phenol is utilized as a straightforward, sustainable, and potent one-component organocatalyst for the atom-economic transformation of epoxides to oxazolidinones under microwave irradiation. Integrating a positively charged center into phenols over a modular one-step preparation gives rise to a bifunctional system with improved acidity and activity, competent in rapid assembly of epoxides and isocyanates under microwave irradiation in a short reaction time (20-60 min). A careful assessment of the efficacy of various positively charged phenols and anilines and the impact of several factors, such as catalyst loading, temperature, and the kind of nucleophile, on catalytic reactivity were examined. Under neat conditions, this one-component catalytic platform was exploited to prepare more than 40 examples of oxazolidinones from a variety of aryl- and alkyl-substituted epoxides and isocyanates within minutes, where up to 96% yield and high degree of selectivity were attained. DFT calculations to achieve reaction barriers for different catalytic routes were conducted to provide mechanistic understanding and corroborated the experimental findings in which concurrent epoxide ring-opening and isocyanate incorporation were proposed.

Abstract
The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions (DCs) of nitrile oxides (NOs) to alkenes and alkynes are useful methods for the synthesis of 2-isoxazolines and isoxazoles respectively, which are important classes of heterocyclic compounds in organic and medicinal chemistry. Most of these reactions are carried out in organic solvents and under thermal activation. Nevertheless the use of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2 ) and ionic liquids (Ils) as alternative solvents and the application of microwave (MW) and ultrasound (US) as alternative activation procedures have evident advantages from the "Green Chemistry" point of view. The critical discussion on the applications of these "unconventional" activation methods and reaction conditions in the 1,3-DCs of NOs is the objective of the present Review.

Abstract
A microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method was used for the extraction of phenolic compounds from Nerium oleander leaves. The influence of variables such as ethanol concentration, microwave power, irradiation time and liquid/solid ratio on polyphenol extraction was modelled using a second-order regression equation based on response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal conditions for MAE were: extraction solvent 35% ethanol concentration, 500 W microwave power, 60 s irradiation time and a solvent/material ratio of 20 mL g-1. Under optimal MAE conditions, the recovery of TPC was 25.752 mg GAE per g dw. 19 compounds have been identified by HPLC-ESI-MS/MS analysis; the main compounds identified were chlorogenic acid, rutin and quinic acid esters, such as caffeoylquinic acids and dicaffeoylquinic acids. Additionally, the optimized extract demonstrated potential to inhibit HT29 colorectal cancer cell growth (EC50 = 2.432 μg mL-1) without presenting cytotoxicity in confluent Caco-2 cells, a model of human intestinal epithelium. These results supply new information about the phenolic composition of Nerium oleander leaves and their antiproliferative effect.

Abstract
Alkyl esters are high added value products useful in a wide range of industrial sectors. A methodology based on a simple sol-gel approach (biosilicification) is herein proposed to encapsulate enzymes in order to design highly active and stable biocatalysts. Their performance was assessed through the optimization of valeric acid esterification evaluating the effect of different parameters (biocatalyst load, presence of water, reaction temperature and stirring rate) in different alcoholic media, and comparing two different methodologies: conventional heating and microwave irradiation. Ethyl valerate yields were in the 80–85% range under optimum conditions (15 min, 12% m/v biocatalyst, molar ratio 1:2 of valeric acid to alcohol). Comparatively, the biocatalysts were slightly deactivated under microwave irradiation due to enzyme denaturalisation. Biocatalyst reuse was attempted to prove that good reusability of these sol-gel immobilised enzymes could be achieved under conventional heating.

Abstract
A straightforward strategy for the synthesis of dihydroquinazolines is presented, which allows for the preparation of 3,4- and 1,4-dihydroquinazolines with different substitution patterns from 2-aminobenzylamine (2-ABA) as common precursor. The required functionalization of both amino groups present in 2-ABA was achieved by different routes involving selective N-acylation and cesium carbonate-mediated N-alkylation reactions, avoiding protection/deprotection steps. The heterocycles were efficiently synthesized in short reaction times by microwave-assisted ring closure of the corresponding aminoamides promoted by ethyl polyphosphate (PPE).

Abstract
The first general procedure for the synthesis of 5 to 7-membered 1-aryl-2-iminoazacycloalkanes is presented, by microwave-assisted ring closure of ω-arylaminonitriles promoted by polyphosphoric acid (PPA) esters. 1-Aryl-2-iminopyrrolidines were easily prepared from the acyclic precursors employing a chloroformic solution of ethyl polyphosphate (PPE). The use of trimethylsilyl polyphosphate (PPSE) in solvent-free conditions allowed for the synthesis of 1-aryl-2-iminopiperidines and hitherto unreported 1-aryl-2-iminoazepanes. The cyclization reaction involves good to high yields and short reaction times, and represents a novel application of PPA esters in heterocyclic synthesis.

Abstract
A small series of tetrahydroindazoles was prepared, starting from 2-acetylcyclohexanone and different hydrazines using reflux and a focused microwave reactor. Microwave irradiation (MW) favored the formation of the desired products with improved yields and shortened reaction times. This is a simple and green method for the synthesis of substituted tetrahydroindazole derivatives. The in vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH and ABTS methods. In these assays, 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-methyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazole (3f) showed moderate DPPH decoloring activity, while 3-methyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-indazole (3a), 3-methyl-2-phenyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazole (3b) and 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-methyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazole (3f) were the most active in the ABTS assay. All compounds were well characterized by IR, ¹H-, (13)C-NMR and GC-MS spectroscopy and physical data, while the structure of 4-(3-methyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazol-2-yl)benzoic acid (3e) was also determined by single crystal X-ray analysis.

Abstract
The development of the domino reaction between an aminoethyl-substituted diene and maleic anhydride to afford an N-substituted octahydroisoquinolin-1-one is described. A typical procedure involves the treatment of a 1-aminoethyl-substituted butadiene with maleic anhydride at 0 °C to room temperature for 20 min under low-solvent conditions, which affords a series of isoquinolinone carboxylic acids in moderate to excellent yields. NMR monitoring suggested that the reaction proceeded via an initial acylation step followed by an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction. For the latter step, a significant rate difference was observed depending on whether the amino group was substituted by a phenyl or an alkyl (usually benzyl) substituent, with the former noted by NMR to be substantially slower. The Diels-Alder step was studied by density functional theory (DFT) methods, leading to the conclusion that the degree of preorganization in the starting acylated intermediate had the largest effect on the reaction barriers. In addition, the effect of electronics on the aromatic ring in N-phenyl substrates was studied computationally and experimentally. Overall, this protocol proved considerably more amenable to scale up compared to earlier methods by eliminating the requirement of microwave batch chemistry for this reaction as well as significantly reducing the quantity of solvent.

Abstract
Substituted and/or heterocyclic d-homoestrone derivatives were synthetized via the intramolecular cyclization of a δ-alkenyl-d-secoaldehyde, -d-secoalcohol or -d-secocarboxylic acid of estrone 3-benzyl ether. The d-secoalcohol was modified at three sites in the molecule. The in vitro antiproliferative activities of the new d-homo- and d-secoestrone derivatives were determined on HeLa, MCF-7, A431 and A2780 cells through use of MTT assay. d-Homoalcohols 3 and 5 displayed cell line-selective cytostatic effects against ovarian and cervical cell lines, respectively. Two d-secoestrones (6 and 12c) proved to be effective, with IC50 values comparable with those of the reference agent cisplatin. A selected compound (6) was tested by tubulin polymerization assay and its cancer specificity was additionally determined by using noncancerous human fibroblast cells.

Abstract
Rapid progress in the field of ionic liquids in recent decades led to the development of many outstanding energy-conversion processes, catalytic systems, synthetic procedures, and important practical applications. Task-specific optimization emerged as a sharpening stone for the fine-tuning of structure of ionic liquids, which resulted in unprecedented efficiency at the molecular level. Ionic-liquid systems showed promising opportunities in the development of green and sustainable technologies; however, the chemical nature of ionic liquids is not intrinsically green. Many ionic liquids were found to be toxic or even highly toxic towards cells and living organisms. In this Review, we show that biological activity and cytotoxicity of ionic liquids dramatically depend on the nature of a biological system. An ionic liquid may be not toxic for particular cells or organisms, but may demonstrate high toxicity towards another target present in the environment. Thus, a careful selection of biological activity data is a must for the correct assessment of chemical technologies involving ionic liquids. In addition to the direct biological activity (immediate response), several indirect effects and aftereffects are of primary importance. The following principal factors were revealed to modulate toxicity of ionic liquids: i) length of an alkyl chain in the cation; ii) degree of functionalization in the side chain of the cation; iii) anion nature; iv) cation nature; and v) mutual influence of anion and cation.

Abstract
In the past decade, alternative benign organic methodologies have become an imperative part of organic syntheses and chemical reactions. The various new and innovative sustainable organic reactions and methodologies using no solvents or catalysts and employing alternative energy inputs such as microwaves, sonication, conventional and room temperature heating conditions, mechanochemical mixing, and high-speed ball milling are discussed in detail. Environmentally benign and pharmaceutically important reactions such as multicomponent, condensation, and Michael addition reactions; ring opening of epoxides; and oxidation and other significant organic reactions are discussed. An overview of benign reactions through solvent- and catalyst-free (SF-CF) chemistry and a critical perspective on emerging synergies between SF-CF organic reactions are discussed.

Abstract
N-Phenyl-4-(6-phenylimidazo[2,1-b]thiazol-5-yl)thiazol-2-amines (6a-q) have been synthesized by the Hantzsch thiazole reaction of 2-chloro-1-(6-phenylimidazo[2,1-b]thiazol-5-yl)ethanones (4a-e) with suitably substituted thioureas using microwave heating. The ethanones (4a-e) were prepared by the reaction of 6-phenylimidazo[2,1-b]thiazoles (3a-e) with chloroacetylchloride in refluxing 1,4-dioxane whereas the thiazoles (3a-e) were synthesized by the reaction of 2-bromo-1-phenylethanones (2a-e) with thiazol-2-amine in refluxing acetone.

Microwave synthesis under solvent-free conditions and spectral studies of some mesoporphyrinic complexes. Molecules 2012; 17:5592-603. Abstract
A series of A3B and A4 type mesoporphyrinic complexes were synthesized with superior yields using microwave irradiation under solvent-free conditions. The structures of the complexes were confirmed using elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, EPR and NMR spectral data. The influence of environmental polarity on spectral properties of the mesoporphyrinic complexes was investigated. The obtained results indicate that the shape of absorption and fluorescence spectra does not depend on the solvent polarity under the experimental conditions used. The small shifts of the absorption and emission maximums that occur by increasing of solvent polarity reflects the physical interaction between the porphyrinic substituents and the solvent molecules.
