Abstract
The critical gelation conditions observed in dilute aqueous solutions of multiple nanoscale uranyl peroxide molecular clusters are reported, in the presence of multivalent cations. This gelation is dominantly driven by counterion-mediated attraction. The gelation areas in the corresponding phase diagrams all appear in similar locations, with a characteristic triangle shape outlining three critical boundary conditions, corresponding to the critical cluster concentration, cation/cluster ratio, and the degree of counterion association with increasing cluster concentration. These interesting phrasal observations reveal general conditions for gelation driven by electrostatic interactions in hydrophilic macroionic solutions.

Abstract
Previous research on covalent organic framework (COF)-based photocatalytic H2O2 synthesis from oxygen reduction focuses more on charge carrier separation but less on the electron utilization efficiency of O2. Herein, we put forward a facile approach to simultaneously promote charge separation and tailor the oxygen reduction pathway by introducing phosphotungstic acid (PTA) into the cationic COF skeleton. Experiments verified that PTA, as an electron transport medium, establishes a fast electron transfer channel from the COF semiconductor conductor band to the substrate O2; meanwhile, the reaction path is optimized by its catalytic cycle for preferable dioxygen capture and reduction in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics. The existence of PTA promotes the rate and tendency of converting O2 into •O2- intermediates, which is conducive to boosting the photocatalytic activity and selectivity toward the sequential two-step single-electron ORR. As expected, compared to the pristine TTB-EB, the optimal PTA0.5@TTB-EB achieves a 2.2-fold improvement of visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance with a H2O2 production rate of 897.94 μmol·L-1·h-1 in pure water without using any sacrificial agents. In addition, owing to the robust electrostatic interaction and the confinement effect of porous TTB-EB channels, the PTA@TTB-EB composite possessed favorable stability.

Abstract
Haloperoxidases represent an important class of enzymes that nature adopts as a defense mechanism to combat the colonial buildup of microorganisms on surfaces, commonly known as biofouling. Subsequently, there has been tremendous focus on the development of artificial haloperoxidase mimics that can catalyze the oxidation of X- (halide ion) in the presence of H2O2 to form HOX. The natural intermediate HOX disrupts the bacterial quorum sensing, thus preventing biofilm formation. Herein, we report a simple method for the formation of supramolecular hydrogels through the self-assembly of Keggin-structured polyoxometalates, phosphotungstic acid, and silicotungstic acid with the small biomolecule guanosine monophosphate (GMP) in an aqueous medium. The polyoxometalate-GMP hydrogels that contained highly entangled nanofibers were mechanically robust and showed thixotropic properties. The gelation of the polyoxometalates with GMP not only rendered manifold enhancement in biocompatibility but also the fibril network in the hydrogel provided high water wettability and the polyoxometalates acted as an efficient haloperoxidase mimic to trigger oxidative iodination, as demonstrated by a haloperoxidase assay. The antifouling activity of the phosphotungstic acid-GMP hydrogel was demonstrated against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, which showed enhanced antibacterial performance of the hydrogel as compared to the polyoxometalate alone. We envision that the polyoxometalate-GMP hydrogels may facilitate mechanically robust coatings in a simple pathway that can be useful for antifouling applications.

Abstract
In this work, we fabricated a TiO2 thin film, and the same film was modified with an Anderson aluminum polyoxometalate (TiO2-AlPOM). Physical-chemical characterization of the catalysts showed a significant change in morphological and optical properties of the TiO2 thin films after surface modification. We applied the kinetic and isothermal models to the methylene blue (MB) adsorption process on both catalysts. The pseudo-second order model was the best fitting model for the kinetic results; qe (mg/g) was 11.9 for TiO2 thin films and 14.6 for TiO2-AlPOM thin films, and k2 (g mg-1 min-1) was 16.3 × 10-2 for TiO2 thin films and 28.2 × 10-2 for TiO2-AlPOM thin films. Furthermore, the Freundlich model was suitable to describe the isothermal behavior of TiO2, KF (5.42 mg/g), and 1/n (0.312). The kinetics of photocatalytic degradation was fitted using the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model; kap was 7 × 10-4 min-1 for TiO2 and 13 × 10-4 min-1 for TiO2-AlPOM. The comparative study showed that TiO2 thin films reach a 19.6% MB degradation under UV irradiation and 9.1% MB adsorption, while the TiO2-AlPOM thin films reach a 32.6% MB degradation and 12.2% MB adsorption on their surface. The surface modification improves the morphological, optical, and photocatalytic properties of the thin films. Finally, the DFT study supports all the previously shown results.

Abstract
Because sunlight is the most abundant energy source on earth, it has huge potential for practical applications ranging from sustainable energy supply to light driven chemistry. From a chemical perspective, excited states generated by light make thermodynamically uphill reactions possible, which forms the basis for energy storage into fuels. In addition, with light, open-shell species can be generated which open up new reaction pathways in organic synthesis. Crucial are photosensitizers, which absorb light and transfer energy to substrates by various mechanisms, processes that highly depend on the distance between the molecules involved. Supramolecular coordination cages are well studied and synthetically accessible reaction vessels with single cavities for guest binding, ensuring close proximity of different components. Due to high modularity of their size, shape, and the nature of metal centers and ligands, cages are ideal platforms to exploit preorganization in photocatalysis. Herein we focus on the application of supramolecular cages for photocatalysis in artificial photosynthesis and in organic photo(redox) catalysis. Finally, a brief overview of immobilization strategies for supramolecular cages provides tools for implementing cages into devices. This review provides inspiration for future design of photocatalytic supramolecular host-guest systems and their application in producing solar fuels and complex organic molecules.

Abstract
Phthalocyanine ruthenium complexes were identified as red-light activatable catalysts for trifluoromethylation reactions. The red-light mediated chlorotrifluoromethylation of alkenes could proceed without any sacrificial reducing reagents. This reaction exhibited good compatibility with a blue-light-absorbing substrate, while under irradiation with blue light, i.e., under traditional photoreaction conditions, this substrate decomposed completely.

Abstract
The degree of polymerization in polyimides has significant effects on their photoelectric properties. Increase the degree of polymerization in polyimide can improve its light absorption capability as well as reduce the recombination rate of photogenerated electrons and holes. However, it is difficult to promote the polymerization of polyimides by conventional approaches, such as increasing the polymerization temperature since polyimides are susceptible to high temperature and can be decomposed. In this paper, a suitable proportion of phosphotungstic acid was introduced to increase the degree of polymerization of polyimide at a lower polymerization temperature, so as to improve the light absorption capability of the composite and inhibit the recombination of electron and hole. The p-phenylenediamine based polyimide with the one-dimensional linear polymer chain has excellent charge transfer ability, so the POM-π effect formed with phosphotungstic acid is stronger, correspondingly, the light absorption capacity of the composite photocatalyst formed is stronger than that of the cross-linked polyimide/phosphotungstic acid.

Abstract
Organic pollutants are highly toxic, accumulative, and difficult to degrade or eliminate. As a low-cost, high-efficiency and energy-saving environmental purification technology, photocatalytic technology has shown great advantages in solving increasingly serious environmental pollution problems. The development of efficient and durable photocatalysts for the degradation of organic pollutants is the key to the extensive application of photocatalysis technology. Polyoxometalates (POMs) are a kind of discrete metal-oxide clusters with unique photo/electric properties which have shown promising applications in photocatalytic degradation. This review summarizes the recent advances in the design and synthesis of POM-based photocatalysts, as well as their application in the degradation of organic dyes, pesticides and other pollutants. In-depth perspective views are also proposed in this review.

Abstract
In recent years, due to the impact of global warming, environmental pollution, and the energy crisis, international attention and demand for clean energy are increasing. Hydrogen energy is recognized as one of the clean energy sources. Water is considered as the largest potential supplier of hydrogen energy. However, artificial catalytic water splitting for hydrogen and oxygen evolution has not been widely used due to its high energy consumption and high cost during catalytic cracking. Therefore, the exploitation of photocatalysts, electrocatalysts, and photo-electrocatalysts for rapid, cost effective, and reliable water splitting is essentially needed. Polyoxometalates (POMs) are regarded as the potential candidates for water splitting catalysis. In addition to their excellent catalytic properties and reversibly redox activities, POMs can also modify semiconductors to overcome their shortcomings, and improve photoelectric conversion efficiency and photocatalytic activity, which has attracted more and more attention in the field of photoelectric water splitting catalysis. In this review, we summarize the latest applications of POMs and semiconductor composites in the field of photo-electrocatalysis (PEC) for hydrogen and oxygen evolution by catalytic water splitting in recent years and take the latest applications of POMs and semiconductor composites in photocatalysis for water splitting. In the conclusion section, the challenges and strategies of photocatalytic and PEC water-splitting by POMs and semiconductor composites are discussed.

Abstract
A heterogeneous catalyst comprising Keggin type polyoxometalate, silicotungstic acid (SiW12), and MCM-22 was synthesized using wet impregnation method and characterized by acidity measurement, BET, FT-IR, XRD, and SEM. Their catalytic activity was evaluated for the degradation of cationic organic dyes like methylene blue (MB), crystal violet (CV), and an azo dye Chryosidine Y (CY) in an aqueous solution. The experimental parameters such as catalyst amount, initial dye concentration, and contact time were studied for the degradation of dyes, and it was found that the cationic dyes like methylene blue and crystal violet show better activity as compared to azo dye Chryosidine Y. This may be attributed to better electrostatic interaction of these cationic dyes with the residual negative surface charge of the catalyst, due to presence of SiW12 ion as it is rich in surface oxygens and surface hydroxyl groups. The control experimental results showed that the presence of SiW12 at the surface of MCM-22 promoted the degradation reactions, and presence of multiple W-O bonds in polyoxometalate also played a key role in this reaction. The catalyst exhibits recycling ability without any significant loss in activity up to four cycles.

Abstract
Well-organized TiO2 nanorod arrays (TNRs) have increasingly attracted our attention in recent years due to their excellent photocatalytic properties. However, it is of great importance to prepare more efficient photocatalysts using a facile method towards their more widespread use. In this work, K6SiW11O39Co(ii)(H2O) (SiW11Co) and Ag nanoparticles were introduced into TNRs using spin-coating and chemical bath deposition methods. It was found that TNRs/SiW11Co/Ag composite films with an active area of only 1 cm2 exhibit highly efficient and sustainable properties for the photodegradation of NO2 and display a significant enhancement compared with P25 and pure TNRs. Photocatalytic measurements demonstrated that both SiW11Co and Ag synergistically improve the light absorption and charge separation efficiency, thus obtaining the most efficient photocatalytic performance. In addition, the probable photocatalytic mechanism and the dominating active species for NO2 photodegradation were also proposed, in order to testify the effectively enhanced photocatalytic ability of the TNRs/SiW11Co/Ag composite. Hence, the design of these polyoxometalate and metal particle co-modified TNRs may provide a new tactic for developing promising materials for photocatalytic degradation.

Abstract
We have demonstrated the development of a novel polyxometalate compound, FePW12O40, for photocatalytic degradation of amphetamine and electrocatalytic oxygen evolution. It showed robust optoelectronic properties, which can be attributed to numerous electron trapping sites created by atomic level defects in the microflower-like architecture.

Abstract
The abolition of environmental pollutants and production of hydrogen (H2) from water using a heterogeneous photocatalyst is a demanding science of the current scenario to solve the increasing environmental pollution and worldwide energy catastrophe in modern life. To validate this purpose, the design of low-cost and durable semiconductor-based photocatalysts with great light absorption capacity becomes the most challenging issue for researchers. Regarding this, herein the phosphotungstic acid (HPW)-anchored Zr6O4(OH)4(BDC)6 (UiO-66) metal-organic framework (MOF), i.e., HPW@UiO-66, has been prepared by a hydrothermal method and is efficient, stable, and capable of harvesting solar energy toward the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) and H2 production in the presence of a sacrificial donor. The ionic interaction between HPW and UiO-66 plays a key role toward the photostability and charge-transfer mechanism of the composite and is well characterized with X-ray diffraction, UV diffuse-reflectance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A total of 30 wt % HPW@UiO-66 shows a maximum degradation of about 87.24% of a 20 ppm TCH solution in 60 min of solar-light irradiation and about 353.89 μmol/h of H2 production. The conduction- and valence-band potentials are well characterized with Mott-Schottky measurement and a delay charge recombination process through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The proposed mediator-free Z-scheme-oriented electron-hole migration route is well supported by photoluminescence, and the scavenger test well explains the better charge-carrier separation and high catalytic performance of the prepared composite. This research will bestow an advantageous blueprint to fabricate novel and challenging photocatalysts toward the photocatalytic treatment of environmental pollutants and H2 evolution.

Abstract
Polyoxometalate (POM)-based materials of current interest are summarized, and specific types of POM-containing systems are described in which material facilitates multiple complex interactions or catalytic processes. We specifically highlight POM-containing multi-hydrogen-bonding polymers that form gels upon exposure to select organic liquids and simultaneously catalyze hydrolytic or oxidative decontamination, as well as water oxidation catalysts (WOCs) that can be interfaced with light-absorbing photoelectrode materials for photoelectrocatalytic water splitting.

Abstract
Dielectric oxide materials are well-known insulators that have many applications in catalysis as well as in device manufacturing industries. However, these dielectric materials cannot be employed directly in photochemical reactions that are initiated by the absorption of UV-Vis photons. Despite their insensitivity to solar energy, dielectric materials can be made sono-photoactive even for low energy IR photons by modifications of the interfacial properties of dielectric materials by noble metals and metal oxides. In this investigation, by way of interface modification of dielectric MgO nanoparticles by Ag metal and Ag2O nanoparticles, IR photon initiated sono-photocatalytic activity of MgO is reported. The observed photocatalytic activity is found to be the synergic action of both IR light and sonication effect and sonication assisted a multi-step, sub-bandgap excitation of electrons in the MgO is proposed for the observed catalytic activity of Ag/Ag2O coated MgO nanoparticles. Our investigation reveals that other dielectric materials such as silver coated SiO2 and Al2O3 also exhibit IR active sono-photocatalytic activity.

Abstract
In this paper, Keggin-type heteropoly acids H3PMo12O40 (PMo12), H3PW12O40 (PW12) and H4SiW12O40 (SiW12) were successfully supported on silica-coated perovskite type LaMnO3 nanoparticles by a simple acid-base reaction. These novel hybrid nanomaterials (denoted as LaMnO3@SiO2/PMo12 (1), LaMnO3@SiO2/PW12 (2), and LaMnO3@SiO2/SiW12 (3)) were characterized by means of FT-IR, PXRD, inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectrometry, SEM, EDX, TEM and BET surface area analysis. Furthermore, the adsorption abilities of 1-3 were tested towards cationic methylene blue (MB) and anionic methyl orange (MO) dyes. The results revealed that the MB dye can be removed almost completely (≥98%) by adsorbents 1-3 in 1, 30 and 0.5 minutes, respectively. For the most efficient adsorbent 3, the effects of the initial concentration and the initial pH values of MB solution on its adsorption ability were examined. Furthermore, the selective adsorption of the hybrid materials towards mixed MB & MO solution was investigated. The nanomaterials 1-3 could be easily separated from the aqueous solution and reused several times without any impact on their adsorption abilities and structures.

Abstract
Nanotechnology has the potential to make a beneficial impact on several agricultural, forestry, and environmental challenges, such as urbanization, energy constraints, and sustainable use of resources. However, new environmental and human health hazards may emerge from nano-enhanced applications. This raises concerns for agricultural workers who may become primarily exposed to such xenobiotics during their job tasks. The aim of this review is to discuss promising solutions that nanotechnology may provide in agricultural activities, with a specific focus on critical aspects, challenging issues, and research needs for occupational risk assessment and management in this emerging field. Eco-toxicological aspects were not the focus of the review. Nano-fertilizers, (nano-sized nutrients, nano-coated fertilizers, or engineered metal-oxide or carbon-based nanomaterials per se), and nano-pesticides, (nano-formulations of traditional active ingredients or inorganic nanomaterials), may provide a targeted/controlled release of agrochemicals, aimed to obtain their fullest biological efficacy without over-dosage. Nano-sensors and nano-remediation methods may detect and remove environmental contaminants. However, limited knowledge concerning nanomaterial biosafety, adverse effects, fate, and acquired biological reactivity once dispersed into the environment, requires further scientific efforts to assess possible nano-agricultural risks. In this perspective, toxicological research should be aimed to define nanomaterial hazards and levels of exposure along the life-cycle of nano-enabled products, and to assess those physico-chemical features affecting nanomaterial toxicity, possible interactions with agro-system co-formulants, and stressors. Overall, this review highlights the importance to define adequate risk management strategies for workers, occupational safety practices and policies, as well as to develop a responsible regulatory consensus on nanotechnology in agriculture.

Abstract
In this paper, cobalt ferrite magnetic nanoparticle was modified by N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl amine. Polyoxometalate was immobilized on the modified bi-amino surface functionalized nanoparticle to prepare the environmentally friendly catalyst nanoparticle (EFCN). The synthesized EFCN was characterized using Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction. The EFCN was used for photocatalytic dye degradation. Acid Red 18 and Direct Red 81 were used as model dyes. The effect of catalyst dosage, dye concentration and salt on dye degradation was studied. Dye degradation increases by catalyst dosage. The results showed that decolorization followed a zero-order kinetic model.

Abstract
By virtue of the flexible structure of polyoxometalates, Ni2+ is encapsulated into trivacant lacunary tungstophosphate ligands by the form of [Ni4] cluster to offer a tetra-nickel substituted polyoxotungsate K6Na4[Ni4(H2O)2(PW9O34)2] (Ni4P2). The Ni4P2 is then immobilized onto the surface of SiO2 nanoparticles by self-assembly under electrostatic interactions to give the product of Ni4P2@SiO2 composites. Due to the specific affinity between substituted Ni2+ in the polyoxotungsate and the histidine residues of protein, Ni4P2@SiO2 composites exhibit highly adsorption selectivity towards histidine protein. This Ni4P2@SiO2 composite is of high stability, and SDS-PAGE assay indicates that it can be used repeatedly as an efficient sorbent for the isolation of His6-tagged proteins from cell lysate with improved performance when compared with commercial NTA-Ni2+ column.
