Abstract
OBJECTIVES Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a common complication of diabetes, particularly affecting the elderly and increasing their risk of falls due to impaired balance. This study investigates the effect of a multifactorial balance rehabilitation program on postural stability, fall risk, and quality of life in elderly individuals with DPN. METHODS In a randomized controlled trial, 150 elderly participants (aged 60-80) diagnosed with DPN were enrolled. Comprehensive demographic data were collected, diabetic foot assessments were performed, and key outcome measures included postural sway parameters, fall risk, and quality of life. Participants were randomly assigned to two groups: the study group underwent a 12-week multifactorial balance rehabilitation program (3-5 days a week), while the control group received standard medical care and advice. RESULTS The study identified statistically significant improvements in postural sway parameters (AP sway Z = -3.16, ML sway Z = -2.20, COP length Z = -6.27, COP area Z = -2.25), a substantial reduction in fall risk (F (1, 134) = 263.42), and enhanced quality of life, as measured by physical health domain of WHOQOL-BREF (D1F (1, 134) = 3.94) and MDQoL 17 (F (1, 134) = 7.67), among the study group participants (p < .05). CONCLUSION Following the 12-week multifactorial balance rehabilitation program, participants in the study group demonstrated notable improvements in postural stability, reduced risk of falls, and improved quality of life compared to the control group.

Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to determine whether a better hemodynamic profile and a better sleep quality are associated with the duration of physical exercise in the water; secondly, it aims to determine whether better sleep quality is associated with a more favorable hemodynamic profile. Methods: 97 subjects (85 women, age 59.46 ± 10.62) were included in the study. Groups were divided into normotensive (n = 46) and hypertensive individuals, (n = 51) duration of water aerobics (1-6 (n = 18), 7-11 (n = 11), 12-35 (n = 26), and > 36 months (n = 42), respectively), and sleep quality (Good, Poor, and Sleep Disordered). The peripheral (brachial), central (through applanation tonometry), and arterial blood pressure were assessed, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire was collected. Results: We found that the groups practicing water-based exercise for a more extended period (>6 months) did not present improved pressure values and sleep quality. The best (though still weak) relationship between the water-based exercise time and the sleep quality values occurred between the group of 7-11 exercising for over 36 months (r = - 0.29 for both). When multivariate regression analysis was performed, there was interaction between AIx@75bpm and sleep quality score, as well as between AIx@75bpm and the age of subjects (p = .006 and 0.003, respectively). Conclusion: The data from the present study reported that subjects who participated for a longer time in the water aerobics training protocol had no additional hemodynamic and sleep quality benefits compared to volunteers with shorter duration groups (<6 months).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical exercise is crucial in type 2 diabetes management (T2D), and training in the aquatic environment seems to be a promising alternative due to its physical properties and metabolic, functional, cardiovascular, and neuromuscular benefits. Research on combined training in aquatic and dry-land training environments is scarce, especially in long-term interventions. Thus, this study aims to investigate the effects of combined training in both environments on health outcomes related to the management of T2D patients. METHODS This is a randomized, unicentric, single-blinded, comparator clinical trial with two parallel arms. Participants with T2D, of both sexes, aged at 45 to 80 years old, will be randomized into two groups (aquatic combined training (AQUA) and dry-land combined training (LAND)), both performing combined aerobic and resistance training three times a week on alternate days for 24 weeks. Aerobic training will be performed using continuous and pyramidal methods, with linear exercise intensity and duration progression. Intensity will be prescribed by rated effort perception (Borg scale 6 to 20). Resistance training will be performed using exercise for the trunk, upper and lower limbs maximum speed, and target repetition zone in aquatic and dry-land environments, respectively, using multiple sets in a linear dosage progression. Before, at 12 weeks, and after the 24 weeks of training, biochemical analyses, functional capacity, maximum muscle strength, body composition assessments, cardiovascular measures, and the administration of questionnaires to assess mental, cognitive, sleep quality, and quality of life will be conducted. Throughout the 24 weeks, the training load date and acute capillary glucose and blood pressure measurements will also be conducted. The data will be analyzed using the SPSS (29.0) statistical package, using a significance level of 0.05. For intra- and inter-group comparisons, generalized estimating equations will be applied and analyzed by intention-to-treat and per-protocol adopting the Bonferroni post hoc test. DISCUSSION The obtained results may provide insights to enhance understanding of the benefits of the aquatic and dry-land environment on various health outcomes, as well as acute aspects and safety considerations of the training. Moreover, this could support the development of intervention strategies to optimize the T2D management. TRIAL REGISTRATION Brazilian Clinical Trial Registry (ReBEC) RBR-10fwqmfy. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Physical and mind-body exercises represent distinct intervention strategies that may improve sleep quality by influencing physiological and psychological factors. Nevertheless, their effectiveness in individuals with diabetes is not well-established. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the impacts of physical and mind-body exercise interventions on sleep quality in patients with diabetes mellitus. METHODS Six randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that met the inclusion criteria were identified from PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Ovid-Medline Library. The effect size for sleep quality was calculated using the standardized mean difference (SMD) with a 95% confidence interval (CI), employing a random-effects model. Heterogeneity and publication bias were also examined, and subgroup, meta-regression, and sensitivity analyses were performed. RESULTS Physical and mind-body exercise interventions significantly improved sleep quality, with an SMD of -1.040 (95% CI, -1.686 to -0.394). Subgroup analysis revealed significant differences with respect to the type of intervention (p=0.047), or its duration (p=0.282). Meta-regression analysis indicated that mean hemoglobin A1c level was the only factor to be significantly related to the effect size for sleep quality, demonstrating a negative association (p=0.033). The assessment of publication bias and the sensitivity analysis suggested that the findings were reliable and robust. CONCLUSIONS Physical and mind-body exercises may serve as effective interventions for patients with diabetes mellitus who experience poor sleep quality. However, to substantiate these findings, additional rigorous RCTs with larger sample sizes, longer follow-up periods, and standardized interventions are required.

Abstract
PURPOSE Sleep is the foundation of human physiological health and psychological health, as well as one of the basic needs for human survival. Sleep quality problems are prevalent in the population, and poor sleep quality is often closely related to the occurrence of many diseases, which seriously affects the quality of life and may even result in a shortened lifespan, so that improving sleep health has become a real problem that needs to be solved urgently. Exercise, as an important non-pharmacological tool, has been widely used for sleep quality enhancement, while the efficacy of exercise on subjective and objective sleep with respect to individual sleep quality remains controversial. Therefore, the aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the effects of exercise on subjective sleep quality and objective sleep efficiency in a non-athlete population, and to further rank the effectiveness of exercise types to provide appropriate means of exercise to improve sleep. METHODS This study was evaluated by literature search in five databases, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane, and EBSCO, and paired meta-analysis and network meta-analysis were performed using Review Manager 5.3 and stata16.0. RESULTS A total of 7494 studies were retrieved, and 81 eligible randomized controlled trials involving 6193 subjects were finally included. The primary outcome metrics included subjective sleep quality (PSQI), and the secondary outcome was objective sleep efficiency (SE), of which 65 reported PSQI and 23 reported SE. The results of paired meta-analysis showed that exercise significantly decreased PSQI [MD = -1.77, (95 % CI = -2.28,-1.25),P < 0.05] and increased SE [MD = 4.81, (95 % CI = 2.89,6.73),P < 0.05]. The results of the network meta-analysis showed that body and mind exercise [MD = -2.28, (95 % CI = -3.19,-1.36),P < 0.05, SUCRA = 85.6] may be the best exercise to improve PSQI, and aerobic exercise [MD = 5.02, (95 % CI = 2.52,7.52),P < 0.05, SUCRA = 75.1] is most likely to be the best type of exercise to improve SE. In regression analyses, there was a moderating effect of exercise cycle (β = -0.25 [0.40, 0.46], SE = 0.10 [P = 0.015, R2 = 0.24]) and age (β = -0.20 [-0.04, -0.01, SE = -2.06 [P = 0.039,R2 = 0.16]) as moderators of objective sleep efficiency. CONCLUSION Exercise is effective in improving both subjective and objective sleep quality. Body and mind exercise, aerobic exercise, and aerobic combined with resistance exercise may be the preferred way to improve sleep, and the longer the exercise cycle, the more obvious the improvement in sleep effect, the improvement effect will gradually decrease with age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To revise and critically summarize the available scientific evidence regarding the effect of exercise on sleep quality in people with diabetes. METHODS Three electronic databases (MEDLINE/PubMed, PEDro Database and Scopus) were searched systematically from their inception until February 2024. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database and Quality Assessment Tool for Before-After Studies with No Control Group scales. RESULTS A total of 7 randomized controlled trials and 3 single-arm studies were included. Most of the studies included patients with type 2 diabetes (n = 8). Self-reported sleep quality (n = 9) and objective sleep status (n = 1) were the main outcomes analysed. A variety of training programs were assessed over durations ranging from 4 to 16 weeks in the studies included. Data from eleven interventions demonstrated a significant improvement in self-reported sleep quality among patients with type 2 diabetes (Hedges' g -1.45; 95% CI -2.6; -0.29, p = 0.005). However, data synthesis indicated that participants who exercised did not obtain significant improvements on their self-reported sleep quality compared to those in the control groups (Hedges' g 1.40; 95% CI -1.36; 4.18, p = 0.111). CONCLUSIONS Preliminary evidence suggests that exercise can be prescribed to manage self-reported sleep quality in this population, although its effects may not surpass those of usual care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To compare the effects of aquatic aerobic and combined training on neuromuscular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS Patients with type 2 diabetes were randomized to an aerobic aquatic training (AERO), a combined aquatic training (COMBI) or a procedure control (CON) three weekly for 15 weeks. The sessions were 50 minutes long. Maximal strength and muscle endurance were assessed by the 1RM and maximum repetitions at 60% 1RM tests, respectively, in knee extension and elbow flexion exercises. Timed up and go test, testosterone, cortisol and testosterone:cortisol ratio also were evaluated. RESULTS Participants had 59.0±8.2 years, 51% women. All groups increased (P<0.001) the maximal knee extension strength (Mean Difference: AERO: 21.1 kg; COMBI: 14.6 kg; CON: 4.4 kg), while only COMBI group increased (P<0.001) the maximal elbow flexion strength (Mean Difference: 2.6 kg). Muscle endurance in both exercises were increased in all groups. The Timed Up and Go test at the usual and maximal speed decreased in all groups. Testosterone were not modified in present study, while cortisol and testosterone:cortisol were improved in COMBI group. CONCLUSIONS Aquatic training, especially combined aquatic training, improve the neuromuscular fitness of patients with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The beneficial effects of physical activity on sleep quality in older adults are well-established. However, determining the optimal dose of physical activity remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the dose-response relationship between physical activity and sleep quality in older adults. METHODS A comprehensive search was conducted across six electronic databases from inception to May 2024. Included were randomized controlled trials assessing the impact of physical activity on sleep quality in older adults. Changes in sleep quality scores were analyzed using a normal-likelihood model with an identity link function. RESULTS Fifty-one studies involving 5890 participants met the inclusion criteria. The dose-response relationship was best described by a "J" shaped curve. The minimum significant dose was 195 metabolic equivalents of tasks (METs)-min/week (Hedges'g = -0.39, SE: 0.27, 95%CrI: -0.82 to 0), with the optimum dose identified as 440 METs-min/week (Hedges'g = -0.85, SE: 0.26, 95%CrI: -1.24 to -0.37). The tolerated dose was also 820 METs-min/week (Hedges'g = -0.85, SE: 0.26, 95%CrI: -1.24 to -0.37). The optimal dose of 440 METs/min/week consistently improved sleep quality across various physical activities. Additionally, participant characteristics such as age, sex, and exercise intensity may moderate the effects of different physical activities. CONCLUSION This study identified the optimal weekly dose of physical activity to enhance sleep quality in older adults, highlighting the effectiveness of various physical activities. It also explored moderating factors affecting intervention outcomes. These findings provide valuable insights for tailoring personalized physical activity programs in clinical settings.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sedentary behavior and physical inactivity pose significant concerns for the elderly population due to their detrimental effects on physical autonomy and quality of life. The Pilates method practiced remotely on the ground may be a promising option to enhance the quality of life for older adults. OBJECTIVE To compare the effects of remote and in-person Pilates solo training on older adults' quality of life (QOL) through a controlled and randomized clinical trial. METHODOLOGY Elderly individuals aged 60 to 70 were assigned to three groups: remote training (RT), in-person training (IT), and a control group (CG). The effect size was calculated, and comparisons were conducted using Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) with a Bonferroni complementary test (α = 0.05). RESULTS All groups showed improvement in most QOL domains. However, the IT group exhibited a more significant effect size in the physical, psychological, social relationships, autonomy, death, and dying domains, as well as total scores compared to the RT group. CONCLUSION Pilates practiced solo, whether in-person or remotely, enhances various aspects of older adults' quality of life. Nevertheless, in-person training demonstrates superiority for these outcomes.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of multicomponent training on adropin, endothelial function, insulin resistance, and sleep quality in overweight older adults. In this randomized controlled study, 40 overweight older adults were randomly divided into training and control groups. The multicomponent training program including aerobic, resistance, and balance exercise was followed for 8 weeks, 3 days a week. Study variables were measured 48 hr before and after the intervention. After 8 weeks of multicomponent training, adropin (p = .01), nitric oxide (p = .01), and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max; p = .002) increased, and glucose (p = .001), insulin (p = .001), insulin resistance (p = .01), systolic blood pressure (p = .01), and sleep disorders (p = .01) decreased significantly. Also, Pearson's test results showed a significant inverse relationship between adropin level (p = .01 and r = -.55) and glucose (p = .01 and r = -.51) with sleep disorders. It seems that multicomponent training increases adropin and improves insulin resistance, endothelial function, and sleep quality in older adults.

Abstract
The present study investigated the effects of aquatic exercise on parameters of functional autonomy, mental health, and oxidative dysfunction in elderly patients with DM2. A total of 130 elderly were included in the longitudinal clinical study and were attributed to the non-diabetic group (n = 27) and diabetes the group (n = 22). Both groups participated in 24 sessions of Hydro-HIIT, 48 h before and after Hydro-HIIT, the GDLAM index, depression, and anxiety scores and markers of oxidative dysfunction were quantified. After intervention, GI decreased in both groups (non-diabetes group = -24%; diabetes group = -22%) (p < 0.05), markers of depression (-46%), anxiety (-60%), DCFH-DA (-55%), SOD (+59%), TNF-α (-37%) and IL-1 (-48%) in diabetes group (p < 0.05). The intervention with Hydro-HIIT improves aspects related to functional autonomy, mental health, and exerts consequently, a modulating effect on oxidative stress and inflammatory response in elderly people diagnosed with DM2.

Abstract
The purpose of this article was to review and assess the results obtained from human studies on the effects of hydrotherapy, balneotherapy, and spa therapy on sleep disorders. In this study, databases such as Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Cochrane, Scopus, and sciences direct database were searched from the beginning to September 2022. All human studies that examined the effect of hydrotherapy, balneotherapy, and spa therapy on sleep disorders were published in the form of a full article in English. In the end, only 18 of the 189 articles met the criteria for analysis. Most studies have shown that balneotherapy, spa therapy, and hydrotherapy may by affecting some hormones such as histamine, serotonin, sympathetic nerves, and regulating body temperature led to increased quality and quantity of sleep. Also, the results obtained from Downs and Black show that 3 studies were rated as very good, 7 studies as good, 7 studies as fair, and 1 study as weak. The results of studies also showed that hydrotherapy leads to an improvement in the PSQI score index. Nevertheless, more clinical trials are needed to determine the mechanism of action of hydrotherapy on sleep disorders.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of aerobic and strengthening exercise combination on glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), muscle strength, balance, and sleep quality in individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Material and Methods: Fifty individuals aged between 30 and 65 years and diagnosed with type 2 DM were included in this study. Anthropometric measurements, HbA1c, quadriceps and hamstring muscle strength, balance, and sleep quality of the included individuals were evaluated. Aerobic and strengthening exercises were applied to the participants 3 days a week for 12 weeks. All evaluation measurements were repeated at the end of 12 weeks. Results: Of the 50 individuals included in this study and diagnosed with type 2 DM, 64% (n=32) were male and 36% (n=18) were female. The mean age of the participants was 50.12±10.81 years, the mean body mass index was 29.97±3.12 kg/m2, the waist/hip ratio was 0.91±0.08, and the mean HbA1c was 9.19±2.39. When the pre and post-treatment HbA1c, muscle strength, balance, and sleep quality measurements of all participants were compared, there were statistically significant differences (p<0.001). Conclusion: It was determined that the combination of long-term aerobic and strengthening exercise decreased the HbA1c value and also significantly improved muscle strength, balance, and sleep quality in individuals with type 2 DM. A structured exercise program that includes strengthening and aerobic exercises would be beneficial in developing the most effective and appropriate exercise prescriptions in terms of exercise efficiency and sustainability for individuals with type 2 DM.

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of aquatic exercise on mental health, functional autonomy, and oxidative dysfunction in elderly with DM2. A total of 104 elderly were included in the longitudinal clinical study and were attributed to the diabetes group (n = 30) and the non-diabetic group (n = 29). Both groups were involved in the aquatic exercise (nine exercises; 3 sets x 1-minute duration each; linear intensity and frequency measured twice a week) for 12 weeks. The assessments of mental health, functional autonomy, and oxidative dysfunction were done. All results were evaluated at baseline and 12 weeks later. The values of the following variable scores decreased in the DM2 group after participation in the aquatic exercise: depression (-56 ± 2 scores; 57%), anxiety (-8.2 ± 2 scores; 41%), stress (-3.1 ± 0.3 scores; 32%), and sleep (-3. 7 ± 1.3 points; 51%); an improvement in Berg scores was observed (+53.1 ± 2 points; 8%), Tug tests (-6.1 ± 0.7 points; 25%), carbonyl groups (-0.048 ± 0.01 nnmol/mg/protein; 49%), and total thiol (+0.33 ± 0.08 nnmol/mg/protein; 83%). We have concluded that a linear intensity aquatic exercise program improves mental health, functional autonomy, and oxidative dysfunction in elderly with DM2.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aims of this review were to 1) summarise the breadth and types of research regarding the impact of aquatic exercise on mental health completed to date, 2) provide a clear indication of the intervention type, volume, measurement tools used, and populations best served in relation to this activity and its effectiveness and 3) to identify domains within the literature that can be developed so recommendations can be made for future investigations. METHOD A scoping review was performed under the PRISMA guidelines. A systematic search of Pubmed, SPORTDiscus, PsycInfo and Google Scholar databases was conducted. Studies observing the effect of aquatic exercises on mental health and related parameters were considered for inclusion. The data from the selected studies were then extracted and analysed methodically. PRIMARY CONDITIONS MEASURED Depression, anxiety, mood, self-esteem, and psychological well-being were the primary mental states for which findings could be clearly extracted. RESULTS Of the 1635 articles that resulted from the search, 23 articles met all inclusion criteria. Of these, 12 were randomised controlled trials. Cumulatively, the findings of this review trend towards aquatic exercise being effective in generating positive changes in mental health. CONCLUSION Aquatic exercise, specifically winter swimming, leisure swimming, competitive swimming and aquatic aerobics, can be a promising conservative therapy for mental health management. However, it is recommended that further research be conducted to solidify these findings and establish the long-term effects of this intervention on mental health.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Innovative strategies are needed to enable people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) to self-manage physical activity (PA). Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) is a new metric that uses the heart rate response to PA to inform the user as to whether they are doing enough PA to reduce the risk of premature mortality. The PAI score reflects PA over the previous 7 d with the goal to maintain a score ≥100. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility, acceptability, and efficacy of the PAI e-Health Program in people with T2D. METHODS Thirty participants with T2D who were not meeting PA guidelines were randomly assigned to 12 wk of either 1) PAI e-Health Program or 2) PA attention control. The PAI e-Health Program consisted of receiving a wrist-worn heart rate monitor and an app with the PAI metric, and attending 4 × 2 h·wk-1 sessions of exercise and counseling. Feasibility and acceptability of the program were evaluated by achievement of a PAI score ≥100 and participant feedback. Efficacy was determined from changes in glycemic control, cardiorespiratory fitness, exercise capacity (time-on-test), body composition, sleep time, and health-related quality of life. RESULTS Program participants in the PAI e-Health Program had a mean ± SD PAI score of 119.7 ± 60.6 and achieved ≥100 PAI on 56.4% of the days. The majority of participants (80%) intended to continue to use PAI monitoring. Compared with control, the PAI group significantly improved their exercise capacity (mean difference, 95% confidence interval) (63 s, 17.9-108.0 s), sleep time (67.2 min, 7.2-127.1 min), total percent body fat (-1.3%, -2.6% to -0.1%), and gynoid fat percent (-1.5%, -2.6 to -0.5). CONCLUSIONS The PAI e-Health Program is feasible, acceptable, and efficacious in people with T2D.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Exercise has beneficial effects on mood and anxiety symptoms. However, the impact of aquatic exercise on mood and anxiety symptoms has not been clearly confirmed. Therefore, this study aimed to synthesize and systematically analyze evidence available on boosting mental health through aquatic exercise. METHOD A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted under the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. PubMed, BIOSIS Previews, PsycINFO, Medline, SPORTDiscus, Education Source, and Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) were searched in May 2022. The research included the influence of aquatic exercises on mood and anxiety symptoms. After assessing trial quality and completing data extraction, a meta-analysis was carried out through R software. The results were presented as a standardized mean difference (SMD) and the corresponding 95% confidence interval. RESULTS A total of 18 original trials were included. People who received aquatic exercise intervention had a statistically significant reduction in mental disorder symptoms compared with before. The results were aquatic exercise [SMD = -0.77, 95% CI (-1.08, -0.47), I2 = 77%, P < 0.01], swimming [SMD = -0.51, 95% CI (-1.14, 0.12), I2 = 78%, P < 0.01], aquatic aerobics [SMD = -0.92, 95% CI (-1.32, -0.53), I2 = 78%, P < 0.01], moderate intensity [SMD = -0.75, 95% CI (-1.07, -0.43), I2 = 67%, P < 0.01], and low intensity [SMD = -1.07, 95% CI (-1.08, -0.47), I2 = 85%, P < 0.01]. CONCLUSION Aquatic exercise could statistically significantly improve mental health. Light aquatic aerobics probably has a better effect on mood and anxiety symptoms. However, given the number and quality of included research, verifying the aforementioned conclusions requires a larger sample of high-quality studies.

Abstract
Aquatic exercise is being increasingly recommended for healthy individuals as well as people with some special health conditions. A systematic review with meta-analysis was performed to synthesize and analyze data on the effects of water-based training (WT) programs on health status and physical fitness of healthy adults and adults with diseases to develop useful recommendations for health and sports professionals. We searched three databases (PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus) up to June 2021 for randomized trials that examined WT in adults. A total of 62 studies were included, of which 26 involved only healthy individuals and 36 focused on adults with chronic diseases. In the healthy group, the effects of WT on strength, balance, and cardiorespiratory fitness were beneficial, indicating the usefulness of performing WT for at least 12 weeks (2-3x/week, 46-65 min/session). Among adults with diseases, improvements were observed in patients with fibromyalgia (in balance and cardiorespiratory fitness), bone diseases (pain, balance, flexibility, and strength), coronary artery disease (strength and anthropometry), hypertension (quality of life), stroke (quality of life), diabetes (balance and quality of life), multiple sclerosis (quality of life and balance), and Parkinson's disease (pain, gait, cardiorespiratory fitness, and quality of life). Research is required to determine the effects of WT on patients with heart disease, especially coronary artery disease. In adults with chronic disease, benefits in physical fitness and/or other health-related measures were mainly observed after 8-16 weeks of training. WT is an effective physical activity when the intention is to enhance health and physical fitness in healthy adults and adults with chronic diseases.

Abstract
(1) Background: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) people’s health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is affected by glycemic control. Regular exercise is strongly recommended to these patients due to its cardiovascular and metabolic benefits. However, a large percentage of patients with T1DM people present a sedentary behavior because of the fear of a post-exercise hypoglycemia event, lack of time, lack of motivation and the complicated management of exercise, glycemic and insulin dose interaction. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is an efficient and safe methodology since it prevents hypoglycemia and does not require much time, which are the main barriers for this population to doing exercise and increasing physical conditioning. (2) Methods: Nineteen sedentary adults (37 ± 6.5 years) with T1DM, were randomly assigned to 6 weeks of either HIIT (12-16-20 × 30-s intervals interspersed with 1-min rest periods) performed thrice weekly, or to the control group, which did not train. HRQoL, sleep quality, exercise motivation and enjoyment were measured as psychological variables. (4) Results: HRQoL improved in physical and social domains, PF (1.9%); PR (80.3%); GH (16.6); SF (34.1%). Sleep quality improved in the HIIT group by 21.4%. Enjoyment improved by 7% and intrinsic motivation was increased by 13%. (5) Conclusions: We suggest that the 6-week HIIT program used in the present study is safe, since no severe hypoglycemia were reported, and an effective strategy in improving HRQoL, sleep quality, exercise motivation and enjoyment which are important psychological well-being factors in T1DM people.

Abstract
AIMS To analyze the effects of aerobic training with and without progression on blood pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS The databases used for the systematic search were PubMed, Cochrane Central, SPORTDiscus and LILACS. Studies which analyzed blood pressure before and after an intervention period of eight or more weeks of aerobic training compared to a control group without training in patients with type 2 diabetes were included. RESULTS Of the 4186 studies found, 17 clinical trials were included (912 participants). Systolic blood pressure (SBP) decreased after aerobic training with progression (-6.78 mmHg; 95% CI -8.36, -5.19; p < 0.001) and without progression (-8.07 mmHg; 95% CI -9.37, -6.77; p < 0.001). The same happened regarding diastolic blood pressure (DBP), which decreased with aerobic training with progression (-3.10 mmHg; 95% CI -4.90, -1.31; p < 0.001) and without progression (-5.71 mmHg; 95% CI -7.15, -4.28; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Aerobic training is effective in reducing blood pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes, regardless of progression in training variables.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is recommended as the first-line nonpharmacotherapy for sleep complaints. However, there are no studies that tested CBT for improving sleep quality and increasing quality of life (QOL) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Therefore, this study aims to test the effect of CBT on sleep disturbances and QOL in patients with T2DM. METHODS AND RESULTS In total, 187 participants with T2DM and comorbid poor sleep quality were included in the analysis with the control group of 93 receiving usual care (UC) only and the intervention group of 94 receiving CBT with aerobic exercise plus UC, The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Diabetes-Specific Quality of Life Scale (DSQLS) and the glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) values were collected at baseline, after the 2-month intervention, and 6 months of follow-up. The CBT group had 3.03 points lower PSQI scores (95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.07-4.00, P < 0.001) and 7.92 points lower total DSQLS scores (95% CI: 4.98-10.87, P < 0.001) than the control group after 6-month follow-up. No difference was found in HbAlc between the two groups (t = -0.47, P = 0.64) after 2-month intervention, while the CBT group had 0.89 units lower HbAlc (95% CI: 0.49-1.28, P < 0.001) than the control group after 6-month follow-up. CONCLUSION CBT is effective for sleep disturbances and can also improve sleep quality, increase QOL, and decrease glycemic levels in participants with T2DM. Abstract
Previous research has shown individuals living with type 2 diabetes are more likely to experience depression, anxiety and reduced quality of life (QoL) in comparison to those without the disease. Physical activity has been highlighted as an important factor in improving physiological and psychological parameters in this population. Previous systematic reviews have found mixed results regarding the effects of exercise on psychological problems. Green exercise is an emerging research area with mounting evidence demonstrating positive effects on mental health. Objectives of the current review investigated whether conducting physical activity in outdoor environments had any effect on psychological problems in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Methods such as PubMed, Medline, PsycINFO, Scopus, Cochrane library, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus and Google Scholar databases were searched. The databases were searched for articles which used an outdoor exercise intervention and investigated psychological problems in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Results from the 1467 retrieved articles, 4 studies were included in the systematic review, consisting of 231 participants. All four studies investigated QoL, one study looked at depression and one investigated general wellbeing. Mixed results were found regarding QoL, no significant effect was found for depression. However, general wellbeing was improved. Due to the limited number of studies eligible for inclusion and the heterogeneity of outcome measures, it was difficult to draw firm conclusions. This systematic review acts as a starting point for future investigations into the use of green exercise in improving the mental health of individuals living with type 2 diabetes. Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 2 water-based aerobic training programs on functional capacity and quality of life (QoL) of older women. DESIGN Randomized clinical trial. METHODS A total of 41 women (64.3 [3.1] y) were randomized into a continuous (CTG) and an interval (ITG) water-based aerobic training group. Training programs were performed with exercise intensity based on rating of perceived exertion throughout 12 weeks (twice a week). Functional tests with and without dual-task and QoL questionnaire were applied pretraining and posttraining. Per protocol and intention to treat analysis were conducted using generalized estimating equations, with Bonferroni post hoc test (α = .05). RESULTS The per protocol analysis showed an increase in the 30-second chair stand (6% [12%] vs 18% [13%]), 6-minute walk (4% [7%] vs 2% [8%]), and 5-m habitual gait velocity (6% [11%] vs 4% [7%]) tests after CTG and ITG training groups. In addition, the intention to treat analysis revealed an increase in the 30-second chair stand test (7% [13%] vs 12% [13%]) and physical domain of QoL (8% [26%] vs 14% [22%]) after CTG and ITG training groups, as well as an increase in the gait velocity with verbal task after CTG (6% [11%]). CONCLUSIONS Both water-based aerobic training programs induced similar improvements in the functional capacity and maintained the QoL perception in older women.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Controlled trials support the efficacy of exercise as a treatment modality for chronic conditions, yet effectiveness of real-world Exercise Physiology services is yet to be determined. This study will investigate the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of services provided by Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) for clients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in clinical practice. METHODS AND ANALYSIS A non-randomised, opportunistic control, longitudinal design trial will be conducted at ten Exercise Physiology Clinics. Participants will be individuals with T2D attending one of the Exercise Physiology Clinics for routine AEP services (exercise prescription and counselling) (intervention) or individuals with T2D not receiving AEP services (usual care) (control). The experimental period will be 6 months with measurements performed at baseline and at 6 months. Primary outcome measures will be glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c), resting brachial blood pressure (BP), body mass index, waist circumference, 6 min walk test, grip strength, 30 s sit to stand, Medical Outcomes Short-Form 36-Item Health Survey and Active Australia Questionnaire. Secondary outcomes will be medication usage, out-of-pocket expenses, incidental, billable and non-billable health professional encounters and work missed through ill health. Healthcare utilisation will be measured for 12 months prior to, during and 12 months after trial participation using linked data from Medicare Benefits Schedule and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme data. Abstract
BACKGROUND Aerobic training (AT) improves glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. However, the role of the progression of training variables remains unclear. The objective of this review was to analyze the effects of progressive AT (PAT) and non-progressive AT (NPAT) on glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS Data sources used were PubMed, Cochrane Central, Embase, SPORTDiscus, and LILACS. Studies that evaluated the effect of at least 12 weeks of PAT and NPAT compared to a control condition on HbA1c levels in type 2 diabetes patients were eligible for analysis. Two independent reviewers screened the search results, extracted the data, and assessed the risk of bias. Effect sizes (ESs) were calculated using the standardized mean difference in HbA1c levels between the intervention and control groups using a random-effect model. RESULTS Of 5848 articles retrieved, 24 randomized clinical trials (825 participants) were included. Among the included studies, 92% reported to have performed a randomization process, 8% presented allocation concealment, 21% reported blinding of outcome assessment, and 38% reported complete outcome data. AT reduced HbA1c levels by 0.65% (ES: - 1.037; 95% confidence interval [CI]: - 1.386, - 0.688; p < 0.001). The reduction in HbA1c induced by PAT was 0.84% (ES: - 1.478; 95% CI - 2.197, - 0.759; p < 0.001), and NPAT was 0.45% (ES: - 0.920; 95% CI - 1.329, - 0.512; p < 0.001). Subgroup analysis of the different forms of progression showed a reduction in HbA1c levels of 0.94% (ES: - 1.967; 95% CI - 3.783, - 0.151; p = 0.034) with progression in volume, 0.41% (ES: - 1.277; 95% CI - 2.499, - 0.056; p = 0.040) with progression in intensity, and 1.27% (ES: - 1.422; 95% CI - 2.544, - 0.300; p = 0.013) with progression in both volume and intensity. Subgroup analysis of the different modalities of AT showed a reduction of 0.69% (ES: - 1.078; 95% CI - 1.817, - 0.340; p = 0.004) with walking and/or running and of 1.12% (ES: - 2.614; 95% CI - 4.206, - 1.022; p = 0.001) with mixed protocols while progressive training was adopted. In non-progressive protocols, a significant HbA1c reduction was only found with walking and/or running (- 0.43%; ES: - 1.292; 95% CI - 1.856, - 0.72; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION The effect of PAT on glycemic control was greater than that of NPAT, especially when volume and intensity were progressively incremented throughout the interventions.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences and preferences of sedentary women with type 2 diabetes who had recently completed a pilot 12-week supervised treadmill walking study. METHODS A qualitative design was used. Content analysis was used to assess major themes and subthemes embedded within participants' responses to open-ended questions about their experiences of participating in a walking program. Women were recruited from a database of patients willing to be contacted for research studies. RESULTS Seven inner-city women with type 2 diabetes (71% African American, age 62 ± 4.2 years, A1C 6.8% ± 1.3, years since diagnosis 6.6 ± 3.4 years) completed the postprogram interview. Only 3 of the 7 women had ever received any diabetes education. Four major themes emerged: (1) supportive environment, (2) personal commitment: overcoming ambivalence, (3) learning, and (4) outcomes, and 8 subthemes emerged. A supportive environment (encouraging, person centered, social, and structured) in combination with actively learning about diabetes and self-monitoring the effects of exercise seemed to be associated with personal commitment and confidence in participating in a walking program. CONCLUSIONS Active/experiential learning in a supportive environment may enhance both personal diabetes knowledge and behaviors among women with little diabetes education and low activity levels.
