Abstract
Pyrene, a renowned aromatic hydrocarbon, continues to captivate researchers due to its versatile properties and potential applications across various scientific domains. Among its derivatives, bromopyrenes stand out for their significance in synthetic chemistry, materials science, and environmental studies. The strategic functionalisation of pyrene at non-K region and nodal positions is crucial for expanding its utility, allowing for diverse functionalisation strategies. Bromo-substituted precursors serve as vital intermediates in synthetic routes; however, the substitution pattern of bromoderivatives significantly impacts their subsequent functionalisation and properties, posing challenges in synthesis and purification. Understanding the distinct electronic structure of pyrene is pivotal, dictating the preferential electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions at specific positions. Despite the wealth of literature, contradictions and complexities persist in synthesising suitably substituted bromopyrenes due to the unpredictable nature of substitution reactions. Building upon historical precedents, this study provides a comprehensive overview of bromine introduction in pyrene derivatives, offering optimised synthesis conditions based on laboratory research. Specifically, the synthesis of mono-, di-, tri-, and tetrabromopyrene isomers at non-K positions (1-, 3-, 6-, 8-) and nodal positions (2-, 7-) is systematically explored. By elucidating efficient synthetic methodologies and reaction conditions, this research contributes to advancing the synthesis and functionalisation strategies of pyrene derivatives, unlocking new possibilities for their utilisation in various fields.

Abstract
A PASE (pot, step, atom, economic) synthetic approach to 5-aryl-6-arylthio-2,2'-bipyridine and 6-arylthio-2,5-diarylpyridine ligands/fluorophores has been reported via SNH in 6-aryl-5H-1,2,4-triazines/aza-Diels-Alder reaction sequence. In this article, the "1,2,4-triazine" methodology was successfully used for the synthesis of C6-thiophenol-substituted (2,2'-bi)pyridines as it is well known that thio-substituted (bi)pyridines and their aza-analogs are of wide practical interest. The photophysical properties of the obtained compounds are studied and compared with those reported earlier for 6-substituted 2,2'-bipyridines. The influence of the nature of substituents in the 6-arylthio(bi)pyridine core on the photophysical properties is discussed. It was observed that the new compounds exhibited promising photophysical properties and could be considered as potential push-pull fluorophores. In addition, they demonstrated greater Stokes shift values compared to the previously described 6-H, 6-arylamino and 6-pentafluoro-2,2'-bipyridines and higher fluorescence quantum yields values compare to pentafluorophenyl-substituted 2,2'-bipyridines. Depending on a nature of (bi)pyridine fluorophore LE (locally excited) and/or ICT (intramolecular charge transfer) state were prevailing in emission spectra.

Abstract
The methods for synthesis of promising norbornene monomers from norbornadiene and quadricyclane are summarized. A strategy for their synthesis is discussed, combining theoretical and experimental approaches to the selection of catalysts and the conditions for carrying out stereoselective reactions. The mechanisms of catalytic reactions of synthesis of norbornene monomers, as well as the progress in the macromolecular design of functional polymeric materials based on them, are considered. The data on industrial processes of production of polynorbornenes and areas of their use are presented.

Abstract
An efficient approach for the synthesis of 5,5″- or 5,6,5″-aryl substituted 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridines, bearing an anneleted cyclopentene unit in one of the side-chain pyridine rings for the improved solubility in organic solvents, via their 1,2,4-triazine analogues has been developed. By using this approach, various aromatic substituents were introduced in the 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine core. Depending on the nature of the aromatic substituents, the obtained terpyridines exhibited an intense emission in a range of ca. 344–394 nm in acetonitrile solutions. For the most representative compounds, pronounced bathochromic shifts in both absorption and emission spectra were observed compared with previously reported substituted terpyridines.

Abstract
The in-depth knowledge about on-surface reaction mechanisms is crucial for the tailor-made design of covalently bonded organic frameworks, for applications such as nanoelectronic or -optical devices. Latest developments in atomic force microscopy, which rely on functionalizing the tip with single CO molecules at low temperatures, allow to image molecular systems with submolecular resolution. Here, we are using this technique to study the complete reaction pathway of the on-surface Ullmann-type coupling between bromotriphenylene molecules on a Cu(111) surface. All steps of the Ullmann reaction, i.e., bromotriphenylenes, triphenylene radicals, organometallic intermediates, and bistriphenylenes, were imaged with submolecular resolution. Together with density functional theory calculations with dispersion correction, our study allows to address the long-standing question of how the organometallic intermediates are coordinated via Cu surface or adatoms.
