Abstract
In grassland agroecosystems, some plant pathogenic bacteria can cause disease in animals. These strains are known as plant and animal cross-kingdom pathogenic bacteria. In this study, we established an alfalfa root infection model and a mouse model via the gavage administration of the Pantoea alfalfae CQ10 (CQ10) bacterial suspension. It was confirmed that the CQ10 strain caused bacterial leaf blight of alfalfa. Mice inoculated with 0.4 mL of 109 cfu/mL bacterial suspension developed clinical symptoms 48 h later, such as diminished vitality, tendencies to huddle, and lack of appetite, including severe lesions in stomach, liver, kidney, and spleen tissues. CQ10 strains were isolated from mouse feces at different time points of inoculation. Thus, CQ10 is a plant and animal cross-kingdom pathogenic bacterium. Transcriptome and proteome analyses showed that biofilm and iron uptake are important virulence factors of the pathogen CQ10, among which Bap and Lpp regulating biofilm are the key cross-kingdom virulence genes of CQ10. From an evolutionary perspective, insights gained from this dual animal-plant pathogen system may help to elucidate the molecular basis underlying the host specificity of bacterial pathogens. The result provides a theoretical basis for the risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies of new pathogenic bacteria entering a new region.

Abstract
Diversity of the gut microbiota is crucial for human health. However, whether fruit and vegetable associated bacteria contribute to overall gut bacterial diversity is still unknown. We reconstructed metagenome-assembled genomes from 156 fruit and vegetable metagenomes to investigate the prevalence of associated bacteria in 2,426 publicly available gut metagenomes. The microbiomes of fresh fruits and vegetables and the human gut are represented by members in common such as Enterobacterales, Burkholderiales, and Lactobacillales. Exposure to bacteria via fruit and vegetable consumption potentially has a beneficial impact on the functional diversity of gut microbiota particularly due to the presence of putative health-promoting genes for the production of vitamin and short-chain fatty acids. In the human gut, they were consistently present, although at a low abundance, approx. 2.2%. Host age, vegetable consumption frequency, and the diversity of plants consumed were drivers favoring a higher proportion. Overall, these results provide one of the primary links between the human microbiome and the environmental microbiome. This study revealed evidence that fruit and vegetable-derived microbes could be found in the human gut and contribute to gut microbiome diversity.

Abstract
The species in the genus Erwinia are Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile, and rod-shaped. Most species in the genus Erwinia are phytopathogens. Also, Erwinia persicina was involved in several human infections. Based on the reverse microbial etiology principles, it is worth analyzing the pathogenicity of species in this genus. In this study, we isolated and sequenced two species of Erwinia. Phylogenetic, phenotypic, biochemical, and chemotaxonomic analyses were performed to identify its taxonomy position. The virulence tests on plant leaves and pear fruits were used to identify the plant pathogenicity of two species of Erwinia. Bioinformatic methods predicted the possible pathogenic determinants based on the genome sequence. Meanwhile, adhesion, invasion, and cytotoxicity assays on RAW 264.7 cells were applied to identify animal pathogenicity. We isolated two Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile, and rod-shaped strains from the feces of ruddy shelducks in the Tibet Plateau of China, designated J780T and J316. Distinct phylogenetic, genomic, phenotypic, biochemical, and chemotaxonomic characters of J780T and J316 identified they were novel species and belonged to the genus Erwinia, for which the name Erwinia sorbitola sp. nov. was proposed, the type strain was J780T (= CGMCC 1.17334T = GDMCC 1.1666T = JCM 33839T). Virulence tests showed blight and rot on the leaves and pear fruits confirmed Erwinia sorbitola sp. nov. was a phytopathogen. Predicted gene clusters of motility, biofilm formation, exopolysaccharides, stress survival, siderophores, and Type VI secretion system might be the causes of pathogenicity. In addition, predicted polysaccharide biosynthesis gene clusters on the genome sequence, and the high capacity for adhesion, invasion, and cytotoxicity to animal cells confirmed it has pathogenicity on animals. In conclusion, we isolated and identified a novel phytopathogen Erwinia sorbitola sp. nov. in ruddy shelducks. A predefined pathogen is beneficial for preventing from suffering potential economic losses caused by this new pathogen.

Abstract
Simple Summary Idiazabal is a traditional cheese produced from raw ewe milk in the Basque Country (Southwestern Europe). The sensory properties of raw milk cheeses have been attributed, among other factors, to microbial shifts that occur during the production and ripening processes. In this study, we used high-throughput sequencing technologies to investigate the microbiota of Latxa ewe raw milk and the dynamics during cheese production and ripening processes. The microbiota of raw milk was composed of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), environmental bacteria and non-desirable bacteria. Throughout the cheese making and ripening processes, the growth of LAB was promoted, whereas that of non-desirable and environmental bacteria was inhibited. Moreover, some genera not reported previously in raw ewe milk were detected and clear differences were observed in the bacterial composition of raw milk and cheese among producers, in relation to LAB and environmental or non-desirable bacteria, some of which could be attributed to the production of flavour related compounds. Abstract In this study, we used high-throughput sequencing technologies (sequencing of V3–V4 hypervariable regions of 16S rRNA gene) to investigate for the first time the microbiota of Latxa ewe raw milk and the bacterial shifts that occur during the production and ripening of Idiazabal cheese. Results revealed several bacterial genera not reported previously in raw ewe milk and cheese, such as Buttiauxella and Obesumbacterium. Both the cheese making and ripening processes had a significant impact on bacterial communities. Overall, the growth of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) (Lactococcus, Lactobacillus, Leuconostoc, Enterococcus, Streptococcus and Carnobacterium) was promoted, whereas that of non-desirable and environmental bacteria was inhibited (such as Pseudomonas and Clostridium). However, considerable differences were observed among producers. It is noteworthy that the starter LAB (Lactococcus) predominated up to 30 or 60 days of ripening and then, the growth of non-starter LAB (Lactobacillus, Leuconostoc, Enterococcus and Streptococcus) was promoted. Moreover, in some cases, bacteria related to the production of volatile compounds (such as Hafnia, Brevibacterium and Psychrobacter) also showed notable abundance during the first few weeks of ripening. Overall, the results of this study enhance our understanding of microbial shifts that occur during the production and ripening of a raw ewe milk-derived cheese (Idiazabal), and could indicate that the practices adopted by producers have a great impact on the microbiota and final quality of this cheese.

Abstract
Gulf war illness (GWI) is a chronic disorder of unknown etiology characterized by multiple symptoms such as pain, fatigue, gastrointestinal disturbances and neurocognitive problems. Increasing evidence suggests that gut microbiome perturbations play a key role in the pathology of this disorder. GWI courses with gut microbiota alterations and their metabolites (e.g. short chain fatty acids -SCFA-), which can be aggravated by lifestyle risk factors such as a high fat diet (HF). To investigate the causative role of the gut microbiome, non-absorbable antibiotics (Abx) were administered to mice treated with GWI agents and concomitantly fed with a HF. In light of the wide use of Abx as pseudo-germ-free models, we evaluated the effects of Abx exposure on GWI and HF on body weight, food intake, gut microbiota changes and levels of the SCFA acetate. Results show that HF decreased food intake while increasing body weight in both controls and GWI. Exposure to Abx prevented these HF effects by offsetting the body weight gain in GWI. GWI and HF led to decreases in α-diversity, disruptions in the composition and structure of the gut bacterial community and decreases in acetate levels. This Abx-induced remodeling of the gut microbiome was characterized by an expansion of Proteobacteria, decreases in Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes, and overall increases in acetate levels, as well as by the proliferation of potential pathobionts. Therefore, the use of Abx may not represent a dependable approach to deplete the gut microbiome and its advantages as a pseudo germ-free model warrant further investigation.
