Abstract
Eucalyptus oil is highly valued for its anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial qualities. Research has shown that it is a powerful combatant against cancer cells, making it an extremely interesting area of research. For the first time, the present study proposes to extract 1,8-cineole from Eucalyptus cinerea leaves using different extraction methodologies, namely, hydro-distillation (HD), Soxhlet (SE), ultrasonication (UE), and microwave (ME) extraction techniques. In conventional extraction, HD yielded a maximum of 72.85% 1,8-cineole using a minimum solid-solvent ratio of 1 : 10 g mL-1 within 3 h compared to SE. The first-order kinetic equation was applied in the HD experimental dataset to understand the extraction mechanism. In modern extraction technology, ME achieved the highest yield of 1,8-cineole (95.62%) at the optimal solid-solvent ratio of 2 g mL-1, extraction time of 4.5 min, and irradiation power of 640 W using the response surface methodology (RSM). Furthermore, the kinetic analysis of UE was investigated using three different empirical models. The chemical components of the essential oil extracted using each extraction method were identified as oxygenated monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and oxygenated sesquiterpenes using gas chromatography. Following extraction using various techniques, the morphology of spent leaves lost its distinct texture, their oil glands were entirely distorted, and their vascular bundles could still be identified. It was observed that the hydrogen bond interaction between the solvent molecule and 1,8-cineole-like value-added components played a role in the extraction. Among the investigated techniques, the solvent-free ME method is the most environmentally acceptable method and could effectively extract essential oil from E. cinerea leaves.

Abstract
An eco-friendly and efficient extraction method using deep eutectic solvents assisted ultrasound extraction (DESs-UAE) for the polyphenols from Ligustrum robustum was developed. Among the 34 kinds of DESs prepared, tetraethyl ammonium bromide: 1,2,4-butanol (Teab: 1,2,4-But) was proved to be a suitable extraction solvent based on the extraction efficiency. The extraction parameters including temperature, water content, liquid-solid ratio were optimized with response surface methodology (RSM). Under the optimal conditions, the total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) were 101.46 ± 2.96 mg GAE/g DW and 264.17 ± 5.39 mg RE/g DW, respectively. Furthermore, the extraction mechanism of DESs-UAE was investigated by extraction kinetics, molecular dynamic simulation and theory calculations of interaction. In particular, 9 kinds of polyphenols compounds from Ligustrum robustum were firstly identified by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS. Moreover, the recovered polyphenols exhibited significant antioxidant, α-glucosidase inhibition, acetylcholinesterase inhibition and anticancer activity.

Abstract
Food-borne pathogenic bacteria are a major public health concern globally. Traditional control methods using antibiotics have limitations, leading to the exploration of alternative strategies. Essential oils such as cardamom possess antimicrobial properties and have shown efficacy against food-borne pathogenic bacteria. The utilization of essential oils and their bioactive constituents in food preservation is a viable strategy to prolong the shelf-life of food products while ensuring their quality and safety. To the best of our knowledge, there are no studies that have utilized 1,8-cineole (the main active constituent of cardamom essential oil) as a preservative in meat, so this study might be the first to utilize 1,8-cineole as an antibacterial agent in meat preservation. The application of 1,8-cineole had a significant suppressive impact on the growth rate of Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella Typhimurium in meat samples stored for 7 days at 4 °C. Additionally, the surface color of the meat samples was not negatively impacted by the application of 1,8-cineole. The minimum inhibitory concentration was 12.5-25 mg/ml, and the minimum bactericidal concentration was 25-50.0 mg/ml. The bacterial cell membrane may be the target of cardamom, causing leakage of intracellular proteins, ATP, and DNA. The obtained data in this study may pave a new avenue for using 1,8-cineole as a new perspective for dealing with this problem of food-borne pathogens and food preservation, such as meat.
