Abstract
Four sulfonamide-type microbial inhibitors were studied using density functional theory (DFT) to assess their effectiveness in controlling microbial corrosion. The experimental techniques (FTIR, SEM, EIS, EFM, and AFM) are beneficial for measuring properties such as chemical composition, bond formation, electrochemical behavior, and surface topography; however, DFT can be useful as a new method for understanding microbial corrosion. Sulfacetamide (SFC), sulfamerazine (SFM), sulfapyridine (SFP), and sulfathiazole (SFT) uniformly adsorb onto the iron surface and block the active site, reducing the corrosion rate. To study the effect on microbial activity, a 0.6 eV electric field was applied. The absolute increase in the interaction energy indicates that sulfonamides are effective microbial inhibitors. Electronic SFC, SFM, SFP, and SFT descriptors agree with the experimental inhibition efficiency. The shift of the density of state (DOS) toward a low energy level for sulfonamides indicates the stabilization of these molecules at the Fe (100) surface. The population analysis combined with atomic and molecular parameters further explains the anticorrosive mechanism of sulphonamides.

Abstract
This study aims to explore the prevention of chitosan modified with a fused heterocyclic compound as a sustainable corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 1 M HCl. Electrochemical instruments, including potentiodynamic polarization techniques, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were employed to evaluate the corrosion protection performance. The outcomes showed that the chitosan modified with a fused heterocyclic compound has outstanding inhibition performance, with an inhibition effectiveness of 98.25 % at 100 ppm. The anti-corrosion features of modified chitosan were ascribed to the presence of hetero atoms in modified chitosan composite which leads to the creation of a protective layer, The modified chitosan composite behaved as mixed-typed inhibitors, as shown by the PDP results. The modified chitosan composite adsorbs on mild steel in the investigated corrosive media via chemisorption interactions, and its adsorption followed the Langmuir adsorption model. Furthermore, increasing the temperature from 303 to 333 K enhanced the corrosion rate, most likely due to the desorption of the inhibitor agent from the steel surface.

Abstract
In the current study, 3,3',3''-((1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl)tris(azaneylylidene))tris(indolin-2-one) (MISB), which is the condensation product of melamine (triazine) and isatin, was investigated as a mild steel corrosion inhibitor in 0.5 M HCl. The ability of the synthesized tris-Schiff base to suppress corrosion was evaluated utilizing weight loss measurements, electrochemical techniques and theoretical computation. The maximum inhibition efficiency of 92.07%, 91.51% and 91.60% was achieved using 34.20 × 10-3 mM of MISB in weight loss measurements, polarization, and EIS tests, respectively. It was revealed that an increase in temperature decreased the inhibition performance of MISB, whereas an increase in the concentration of MISB increased it. The analysis demonstrated that the synthesized tris-Schiff base inhibitor followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and was an effective mixed-type inhibitor, but it exhibited dominant cathodic behavior. According to the electrochemical impedance measurements, the Rct values increased with an increase in the inhibitor concentration. The weight loss and electrochemical assessments were also supported by quantum calculations and surface characterization analysis, and the SEM images showed a smooth surface morphology.

Abstract
The inhibition effects of the date palm seed extract corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M HCl at different concentrations are investigated by potentiodynamic polarisation (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and weight loss tests. Additionally, this study provides a fundamental understanding of aromatic adsorption on iron (Fe) surfaces. Furthermore, the surface morphology and the extracts are performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The maximum inhibition efficiency of 95, 96, and 91% were realised at 1400 mg/L for PDP, EIS, and weight loss, respectively. The inhibitive action of the DPS extract against mild steel corrosion in an acid solution has been supported by SEM analysis. The FTIR showed that the extract contained hydroxyl (−OH) and methoxyl (−OCH3) functional groups. The DFT depicted the adsorption sites at the oxygen (O) and carbon (C) atoms as deduced from the Fukui functions, Mulliken atomic charge, and the highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO-LUMO) analysis. The DPS preferred to form chemical bonds by donating electrons to the Fe surface. The coordinate bonds between the O and C atoms and the metal surface resulted in a high inhibition efficiency value. In conclusion, date palm seed extract is an effective inhibitor to protect mild steel from corrosion in an acidic medium.

Abstract
The corrosion inhibition property of selected small organic compounds was investigated using electrochemical measurements, including potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), linear polarization resistance (LPR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The inhibition efficiency (IE %) of the inhibitor on mild steel (MS) in 1 M HCl was then determined. Results show that the presence of the inhibitors resulted in decreased corrosion current density (Icorr) values and increased polarization resistance (Rp). Furthermore, the use of higher concentrations of inhibitors led to an increased inhibition efficiency. Tafel slopes and shifts in the Ecorr values suggested that the inhibitors tested are mixed-type inhibitors that form a protective layer on the surface of the substrate. Of the organic compound inhibitors tested, the inhibitor 4-ethylpyridine (EP) exhibited the highest Rp values and inhibition efficiency values from the PDP, LPR, and EIS analyses, respectively. DFT calculations showed negative adsorption energies and confirmed the chemisorption of the inhibitors allowing for the formation of a hydrophobic protective film against corrosion and correlations between the quantum chemical values and electrochemical data were demonstrated. The results show the influence of the presence of electronegative O, S, and N atoms, as well as the role of aromatic rings in the promotion of surface protection by preventing aggressive ionic species from binding onto MS.

Abstract
Both [5]-circulene and [7]-circulene can be selected to design the molecular tweezers theoretically using the DFT method. Leaning on the cyclic polymerization mechanism, we obtain four new tweezer compounds. Theoretical results offer that tweezer compound (I) is additionally stable than other compounds because it has better energies than other compounds. The values were as follows: - 2606.83372937 a.u. for the total energy, - 5.39820 eV for (EHOMO), and 2.87407 eV for gap energy. The thermodynamic theoretical outcome showed that all reactions are exothermic and spontaneous, suggesting that tweezer compound (I) might correlate with several aromatic compounds, such as pyrene, benzo[ghi]perylene, ovalene, and hexabenzocoronene. The correlation energy results showed an increase as the aromatic compound becomes larger, while the correlation distance decreases. All correlation energy kinds are electrostatic. The value of the electrostatic correlation energy of tweezer compound (I)-ovalene is (- 6.4928615 kJ mol-1). The tweezer compound (I) has a spherical cavity equal to 3.73640 nm3, which adds an important application in the ability to capture chemicals, bacteria, or viruses that are close to the size of the cavity with ease.

Abstract
Corrosion of a material by reaction with a corrosive environment is a common problem across many industries. Iraq is an oil country and corrosion represents a large portion of the total costs for oil producing and a natural potential hazard associated with oil production and transportation. The synthesis of novel thiosemicarbazone, namely 2-(2,4-dimethoxybenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide (DMBHC), was conducted and the chemical structure was elucidated via the 1H and 13C NMR (Nuclear magnetic resonance), and FT-IR (Fourier-transform infrared) spectroscopic spectroscopic techniques in addition to carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen analyses (CHN analyses). The inhibition properties of the investigated thiosemicarbazone were evaluated for mild steel (MS) corrosion in 1N H2SO4 using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), weight loss method, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Electrochemical and weight loss techniques revealed that the tested thiosemicarbazone acted as a superior inhibitor for the acidic corrosion of MS and the efficiency increased with increasing concentrations. The EIS results revealed that thiosemicarbazone demonstrated the highest inhibition efficiency of 94.86%, at a concentration of 0.5 mM. Results from the weight loss technique suggested that the thiosemicarbazone acted as a mixed type corrosion inhibitor. The impact of temperature on the mechanism of inhibition of the new synthesized inhibitor of the surface of MS in 1N H2SO4 was investigated at various temperatures (30–60 °C) where the inhibitive efficiency diminished with increasing temperatures. The mechanism of inhibition was additionally verified with the methodological data.

Abstract
The design and synthesis of a series of theophylline derivatives containing 1,2,3-triazole moieties are presented. The corrosion inhibition activities of these new triazole-theophylline compounds were evaluated by studying the corrosion of API 5 L X52 steel in 1 M HCl medium. The results showed that an increase in the concentration of the theophylline-triazole derivatives also increases the charge transference resistance (R ct) value, enhancing inhibition efficiency and decreasing the corrosion process. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy under static conditions studies revealed that the best inhibition efficiencies (approx. 90%) at 50 ppm are presented by the all-substituted compounds. According to the Langmuir isotherm, the compounds 4 and 5 analysed exhibit physisorption-chemisorption process, with exception of the hydrogen 3, bromo 6 and iodo 7 substituted compounds, which exhibit chemisorption process. The corrosion when submerging a steel bar in 1 M HCl was studied using SEM-EDS. This experiment showed that the corrosion process decreases considerably in the presence of 50 ppm of the organic inhibitors. Finally, the theoretical study showed a correlation between EHOMO, hardness (η), electrophilicity (W), atomic charge and the inhibition efficiency in which the iodo 7 substituted compound presents the best inhibitor behaviour.

Abstract
Background Relatively inexpensive, stable Schiff bases, namely 3-((4-hydroxybenzylidene)amino)-2-methylquinazolin-4(3H)-one (BZ3) and 3-((4-(dimethylamino)benzylidene)amino)-2-methylquinazolin-4(3H)-one (BZ4), were employed as highly efficient inhibitors of mild steel corrosion by corrosive acid. Findings The inhibition efficiencies were estimated based on weight loss method. Moreover, scanning electron microscopy was used to investigate the inhibition mechanism. The synthesized Schiff bases were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and micro-elemental analysis. The inhibition efficiency depends on three factors: the amount of nitrogen in the inhibitor, the inhibitor concentration and the inhibitor molecular weight. Conclusions Inhibition efficiencies of 96 and 92% were achieved with BZ4 and BZ3, respectively, at the maximum tested concentration. Density functional theory calculations of BZ3 and BZ4 were performed to compare the effects of hydroxyl and N,N-dimethylamino substituents on the inhibition efficiency, providing insight for designing new molecular structures that exhibit enhanced inhibition efficiencies.

Abstract
A novel method to functionalize the surface of inorganic coating by growing organic coating has been investigated based on microstructural interpretation, electrochemical assessment, and quantum chemical analysis. For this purpose, inorganic coating with magnesium aluminate, magnesium oxide, and titanium dioxide was prepared on magnesium alloy via plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), and, then, subsequent dip-coating method was used to tailor organic coating using diethyl-5-hydroxyisophthalate (DEIP) as organic molecules. The incorporation of TiO2 particles worked as a sealing agent to block the micro-defects which resulted mainly from the intense plasma sparks during PEO. In addition, such incorporation played an important role in enhancing the adhesion between inorganic and organic coatings. The use of DEIP as organic corrosion inhibitor resulted in a significant decrease in porosity of inorganic coating. Quantum chemical calculation was used to clarify the corrosion inhibition mechanism which was activated by introduction of DEIP. Thus, the electrochemical analysis based on potentiodynamic polarization and impedance spectroscopy tests in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution suggested that corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy sample was enhanced significantly due to a synergistic effect arising from the hybrid inorganic and organic coatings. This phenomenon was explained in relation to electron transfer behaviour between inorganic and organic coatings.
